Noise on imported tracks

Hi to all. I have just had some tracks which were originally recorded on a Tascam TSR-8 (1/2 inch Tape) about fifteen years ago converted to audio files for re-mixing. I seem to be getting an awful lot of noise on the tracks and I am wondering is it because the original tracks had DBX Noise Reduction on them. Is the noise reduction now missing? Or is there a way I can rectify the problem. I am using LogicPro 9
Thanks in advance
Joe Lahart

This noise is introduced in the analog connection between the cable box and the camcorder. Once it is digitized in the camcorder, the sound quality is "frozen". Capturing it into iMovie for example has no effect. Recovering the original sound at that point is difficult to impossible.
You mentioned that the problem goes away if you record to tape first. I assume that implies you didn't have the Firewire cabe hooked up when you recorded onto tape. So it's possible that here is a so called "ground loop" between your iMac, the camcorder, and the cable box. Recording first onto tape, and then capturing separately breaks this ground loop because you never have all 3 devices connected together at the same time. Silly things like reversing a power plug, or using a different outlet sometimes help with this. Also make sure that the analog cable is plugged in tightly at the camcorder end. I had camcorders where the head-phone style plug in the camcorder tended to work itself sligthly loose, making an improper connection.

  • Imported Tracks Have Noises

Lately when I import tracks from CDs, these imported tracks started having some noises when I listened to them on iTune afterward. These noises are laud enough to disrupt music. It's very annoying. There is no such noises when I listen to CDs themselves. Sometime noses are gone after I re-import them again.
Anyway, I am wondering if SuperDrive caught some dust or something. Is anyone having the same trouble? Any suggestion to fix this issue?
    Thanks in advance.

Go to Edit > Preferences > General > Import Settings and activate the error correction feature.

  • Can't import tracks from an older version of iTunes

Since my rMBP has no optical drive I've found a practical use for my old G3 iMac which is for ripping CDs.
The G3 of course is only running iTunes 7.6 (the newest version available for G3 Macs) whereas my MBP is running the latest version.
I've shared the iTunes Library on the G3 and can access it on my MBP, and can even play tracks, but there is no Import button at the bottom of the window so I can't import the ripped tracks into my MBP iTunes. This works fine if I use my wife's MBP (my old one) which is also running the latest version of iTunes.
Have I missed a setting on the G3, or is this a limitation due to the big difference in iTunes versions?
I'm ripping to Apple Lossless if that matters.

    Limnos wrote:
How did you share this library?  If you're talking about what iTunes has, there is a difference between Home Sharing which is a feature of newer iTunes and enable copying fo files, and plain music sharing which older iTunes had but only allowed music to be played.
Ah, thanks, that will be it.
Guess that means I can't use my G3 for doing this. Oh well, not to worry.
    Limnos wrote:
You say, "This works fine," but "this" is vague. Do you mean Home Sharing from your wife's Mac to yours? If so, then yes it will work because they are both capable of Home Sharing.
Yes, "this" meant importing tracks from the Library on my wife's MBP

  • Creative MediaSource Organizer hangs while importing tracks to PC Music Libr

I purchased a NOMAD Jukebox Zen 60GB sometime ago and I finally got into putting my music into it. I downloaded and installed Creative Media Source version 2.03.29. I have all my music files in a folder in my roommates desktop computer available on our home network, because my laptop hard dri've is not big enough to store all files. I click on the Import button and select Import Tracks, and the Creative Import Wizard dialog pops up. I select the mapped network dri've where all my music files are and click Add Folder, and the wizard correctly finds all my music files and lists them on the list on the right side.
First time I tried this, I tried importing all my music which meant it would add 000 files. I clicked Continue and the wizard displayed "Gathering files info and checking file existence in PC Mucis Library..." with the progress bar moving a little. The farthest the progress bar got to was under the th of the "Gathering..." Since I think I have a lot of music files, I waited for about 5 hours but the progress bar did not move further. I checked the task manager, the Applications tab said Creative Import was Running, and the Process tab indicated that the CTImport.exe process was using 98% CPU. I tried other times importing less music (5000 files, 000 files, as low as 500 files), and the progress bar seemed to move a little further with lower number of files, but I was still feel I waited longer than I should have and the process did not finish (I think I waited half-hour to an hour for 500 files). My laptop is not slow or very old, I use video conferencing applications and etc without a problem. Is this a known issue, any suggestions on how I can load my music to my PC Library to download to my jukebox player?
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Thanks everyone for the replies. Allow me to add more information and make some more comments. I did try doing in batches. The?smallest number of songs I had tried was 500 and that seemed to?hang. I then tried 250?and that?worked at first. I got all excited, I would do them all 250 at a time if necessary, but when I tried importing the next 250 files?it got "stuck". Probably in the same place that it did when I tried 500 together.
This might suggest a corrupt tag/file. See if you can narrow down where it is and then analyse the file with something like MP3 Library.
But SSR suggestion made me realize that I can add the track/files without using the import feature, by just dragging and droping from My Computer mapped dri've. It looks like I can add the files to the PC Music Library or the MP3 directly by drag and drop. I was hoping to use the PC Music Library first, so that I could fix files that are not tagged properly, rate some music,?set the Genre (I have a lot of foreign music, so I could differentiate them by nationality in the Genre), etc and them I could also use when transferring to my memory based/jogging mp3 player as well. But it looks like I might be able to fix the tags directly on the player as well (I have a feeling this might be slower, take more time). I can drag single items (I'll do one by one if that's what it takes), but I saw that I can also drag multiple items (so that will cut down manual labor). I just hope that it won't get stuck once I get close to droping the 500th item. I didn't get a chance to try because I had to come to work, I'll try later and let everyone know.
Don't edit the files on the player. If you copy the files back to the PC the changes will be lost unless you use a special update feature in MediaSource 3.

  • Error When Importing tracks from a CD

    Hi,
Using the latest version of iTunes (5.01), whenever I try to import tracks from a CD into my library, I get a popup from the OS that says:
"Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied"
The popup has the word "Desktop" in the upper left portion of the frame.
The tracks import just fine, so this appears to be nothing more than an annoyance, but I'd still like to understand what is causing this problem. Has anyone else seen this popup and been able to address its cause(s)?
I had not seen this problem until I upgraded to iTunes 5.0.
    Thanks,
    Robert

It depends on eaxactly what is wrong with the old laptop. If you're lucky the drive can be extracted and connected to a new computer to extract the data. Otherwise see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Stuttering Sound at the Beginning of Each Imported Track

I'm using the internal DVD drive on my PowerBook G4 to import songs from CD to my iTunes library (located on my internal hard disk). Often times, the tracks I import will have a half-second stutter at the beginning when I play them back. I'm importing in AAC format at a high bit rate (320 kbps). I've tried this at lower bit rates with no luck. I've also tried using error correction, but that doesn't seem to make a difference.
What's interesting is that this doesn't happen *every time* I import a CD. For example, I recently bought the Beatles stereo remasters and imported four of the disks the other day. No skips, no problems. The next day, I imported four more disks, and *all four* disks had skips on just about every track (except the first track—the first track is always OK).
I thought it might be that I was running too many applications at once, and maybe that's what was interfering with the import process. Restarted the machine and opened up iTunes only—nothing else—but the stuttering problem persisted.
(For the record, I don't think it's a problem with the disks either. I have no problem importing tracks using my iMac.)
Any idea what's causing this or, more importantly, how to stop it from happening?
    - Keith

Re-import one of the of the problem CDs in a lossless format, such as AIFF or Apple Lossless. Play a little to verify that the tracks are good. Then use iTunes to convert them to AAC.
Verify that those new tracks are good, and if so, you can then discard the lossless versions and keep the AACs.

  • Imported tracks crash iPod 4th after track finishes playing.

Imported tracks are converted music files from .mp3, I used Roxio Sound editor to 'enhance' the bass because these tracks otherwise playback faint compared to more recent tracks.
Note: This crash does not happen with all similarly converted and enhanced music tracks, but it is consistent with the 2 out of 10 songs so far.
I am planning to wipe the memory clean, but wanted to see if there are any other known solutions.
    Thanks!

    Hello there, German1.
The following Knowledge Base articles provide some practical and informative steps for how to bring content into iTunes:

    and
iTunes: About the Add to Library, Import, and Convert functions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1347
From the "Adding music and other content to iTunes" article, this information in particular may prove useful:
Adding content on your computer to iTunes
iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. You can also add video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.
    Open iTunes
From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
    MacAdd to Library
    Windows
    Add File to Library
    Add Folder to Library
Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add
If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.

  • Importing; tracks are in different playlists

I have imported a CD where the track names were not available from the store. I have typed in all the information, - titles in Greek - but I find the tracks in separate/different playlists. Each playlist contains the tracks of each separate Greek alphabet letter, and then not in track number order either, but alphabetical. I have checked the information is the same (eg disk 2 of two) etc, and find no differences. It appears the first letter of the track name creates the new playlist. I would like them all in one playlist, in the order they were on the CD I imported from.

When I import several CDs and then merge those imported tracks into one iTunes album it often makes a mess. I merge the imported CDs by ctrl-clicking on the albums, going to get infos and editing the common data (composer, artwork, album title etc.). ITunes does make a single album out of the cds but sometimes it merges the tracks in a silly order. This happens especially if the CDs are not known to Gracenote. In that case iTunes will merge the CDs in the order Track 01, Track 01, Track 01, ... instead of all tracks from CD1, then all tracks from CD2 etc.. Since there is no Undo if the merge I have to re-import all CDs and start again. Very annoying.
I can set the sort field to sort by "import date/time" which brings the tracks in the order I want (i.e. first all tracks from the first imported CD, then the next one ...) but when I sync my iTunes with the iPhone all the tracks are again in the order Track 01, Track 01, etc. (i.e. the CDs are interleaved).
I do not want to build a separate Playlist but want a single iTunes album with all the CDs that belong to a particular set in correct order.
How can this be done, please ?

How do I get iTunes to read and import track information from compilation CDs? Typically, the compilations have been burned to disk using iTunes or Toast 8 Titanium. I have checked data boxes as available with both softwares. I don't believe that iTunes can read CDText.

  • Importing tracks from non-I Tune libraries into I Tunes

I am a recent convert to the world of Ipod, having previously used other mp3 players like Zen Creative and an old Panasonic that operated off Real Player & Real Jukebox software. I would now like to import my old music collection into I-Tunes, but am having major difficulties:
Firstly, whereas Creative Media Organiser allowed me to import tracks from my Shared folder (C:\Program Files\My Shared Folder)in Mp3 or AAC or WMA, I-Tunes will not let me do this. When I open up the Shared folder in I-Tunes it doesn't provide any music file formats in the file format tab - only has .txt and xml which don't bring up the music files that are in there.
Secondly, I-Tunes won't let me 'drag & drop' tracks from my Creative Media library directly into I-tunes.
Thirdly, it doesn't interact with the Real Jukebox software, so I can't access the files stored in there either.
    Help! Any Suggestions?

    Hi Tracy,
Some of what you have been told is fine, but there is still some confusion going on.
First, when you try to open a file with iTunes, the reason you only see .txt and xml is because the open command is not the one to import music. It's for opening playlists (.txt and xml). To bring in music you want to use the Add to Library command. An easier way is to find the files on your computer, drag them to the iTunes library window, and drop them there. This will import all formats that iTunes can play.
For those files that are in some strange format that iTunes won't play (such as ATRAC or protected WMA) then the other poster is correct, you'll have to burn and Audio CD and re-rip it, but all the other formats will do the drag and drop thing just fine.

Is it possible to import Tracking Codes with Cisco WebEx Meetings Server 2.5?

    Hi,
In documentation, you can find only what is possible and supported in the product. We don't document what is not supported.
At this time, there is no feature request submitted for this as I assume no one requested such a feature. If your customer really needs this feature, I advise you to reach out to your/their Cisco Account Manager, explain the feature you would like to see, so they can reach out to Product Management and see if this could be built in the next product version.
    I hope this helps.
