Noise on line

Hi I have a problem with modem disconnecting for a noise on my phone line, and yes I know this is phone topic, but with only phone connected, I have a noise on the line .
This is there after I remove all internet kit, so only phone is in master socket, on quite test, I get clicks and crackels on the line.
Tried with two phones with same result.
I tried reporting fault via 151 option 2, no call back after testing line, I did this a few times with same result.
If I do a line test vis internet, It shows no fault, but drops my internet to under 200kb or limited...
so how can I have this problem fixed?

Hi billy2sheds,
Intermittent noisy line faults can be quite difficult to repair if the issue is not affecting your service when the engineer is testing it however we will need to resolve this first before your broadband speed will improve and I think you will need another engineer visit.
Please use the 'contact the mods' link in my forum profile under the 'about me' section to send in your details and I'll be happy to help you get this sorted. You can find the link by clicking on my username.

  • Disharging with USB, Freezing on Sync, Hard Drive noise on Line Out

I have been dealing with three issues with my 60GB iPod click wheel with color display (Photo).
The first is something that slowly creeped in, which is hard drive noise that is audible through the line out when the iPod is charging in a dock. I'd like to say it's like a ground loop issue, but it's in my car, on my iHome, and on my apple dock when plugged into power on a stereo system. It sounds like the spinning of the hard drive is correlated to the noise.
Second, over the past year or so, I've noticed that when I have the iPod plugged into any mac using USB, the iPod discharges. My friend has noticed the same problem on her 40GB 3rd generation iPod. We've tried them on several computers. Firewire connection, no problem, only USB when plugged into a computer, not the power adapter.
Just recently, the iPod froze up iTunes and the rest of my Mac (G4 MDD Dual 1gHz, OS X 10.4.10, iTunes 7.4.2) during sync. I made reformatted the iPod using Disk Utility, Restored to iPod, making sure to plug into power to finish the restore, then attempted to resync. Two attempts of this and I get the same result, a freeze.
The first two issues, I've adapted with, but this last one is just frustrating. I will attempt to sync using a firewire cable, but that should not be the solution. This iPod came with a USB cable, it should charge and sync with one. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thank you!

ok I went here for instruction on how to take it apart since I wasn't having much luck on my own:
    http://www.flexbeta.net/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=20&t=8269
his tip worked for me so far. hopefully this won't be just a temporary fix:
Good tip: if your iPod seems dead and the hard drive is throwing errors pull out the connection at the bottom of the ipod mainboard and plug it back in, this will hard reset your ipod and worked a few times for me

The fault existed for around 14 days, how long before the line settles down and i can expect my download speed to pick up or is there anything else that could be affecting the speed?

your profile is at 253 becauce your connection speed is only 288.  you ned to get your speed higher to get a higher profile not the other way round.
As you cannot find your modulation I cannot be certain you are on 21CN but I think with all the disconnections you have had that your line is now in a banded profile (nothing to do with ip profile) to stabilise your line and once stable for 3+ days the banding will be removed and your connection should return to normal.
If you get to 3+ days and speed still 288 then contact the mods to get them to get you out the banded profile  http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951

  • Noise on line and long disconnects since repair

Hi there. I posted on here previously. Had a major line fault just after activation. Basically something blew and the line died as soon as I tried to use bb but a line check showed as ok. Based on advice on here, arranged for an open reach engineer to visit. He identified a fault with the cabinet outside and tried his best to fix it.
    During and since
-The engineers box failed to do some of tasks he asked of it while he was testing the repaired line. The guy even phoned in about it.
-He said there was brief noise on the line but his box was acting up and I was to keep an eye on it.
-The broad band keeps disconnecting for long periods and massively dropping sync when it does comes back. (syncs at 19.25 Meg then drops to 9.30 Meg). I normally have to reboot the hub to regain full sync from there.
-The phone line, when receiving a call, causes the bb to drop the connection.
-The phone line keeps getting interference, I believe from the bb line. Can actually hear computer noise over the line, not just crackling.
Think the lines still faulty and even crossed to a degree. Just swapped out the micro filter for a second time to test all the same. Do you think I maybe need to get open reach out again?

from your description I would get engineer again

  • PLEASE HELP Audigy 2 zs Platinum issue, reading noise from Line i

Hello, any help at all you can give will be greatly appreciated.
I recently installed my Audigy 2 zs Platinum on my computer, it was working fine until I began to record, It was working fine for the first 2 hours of recording however we disconnected the microphone from line in 2 and connected a bass guitar, then it started registering nosie from the line in 2 jack, we the disconnected the bass guitar and the noise continued. I have completly uninstalled all the creative drivers and reinstalled them, as well as checked the cable connections. I have noticed some other odd behaviors, if I plug headphones into the front microphone jack I do not hear static only a sort of blipping like that of a metranome. however if i use my speakers i hear large amounts of static with the blipping in the background, I also tested my speakers with a walkman and they play sound perfectly. All diagnostics tests have come back with everything passing. Any help you can give at all with this would be greatly appreciated.
    I am running:
XP Pro with service pack 2 (installed a long time before sound card)
    nvida graphics card
    Pentium 4 with hyper threading
    Syntax mother board
    tdk cd dri've
    maxtor hard dri've

    Old_School,
A line level out shouldn't cause any problems but it may still be that there is a hardware problem here. To help diagnose this, I would ask that you cleansweep and reinstall the card. Use the instructions here to do this:

  • Ongoing issue concerning intermittent noise on lin...

I do not seem to be having much success in getting BT's overseas call centre to deal with this issue, so I would be very grateful for any help on this forum, please.
Since October last year, I have had intermittent broadband dropouts. It reached a stage where they were happening every 24 hours. I thought they were resolved when I bought a new router (I have always used third-party Netgear ones, I've never owned a BT HomeHub), and changed the cabling, but the problem has worsened during the last few days, especially the windy and rainy weather.
On picking up my telephone handset, I noticed very loud static on the line, which made the dialing tone almost impossible to hear. On one or two occasions, the broadband connection dropped at the same time. I have tried the test socket - same problem. The static is intermittent, not persistent.
Following the advice on these forums, I raised a voice fault initially. An engineer called yesterday, ran some tests on the line and said there did not appear to be anything wrong, and advised me to report it again as a broadband fault if the problem re-occurred. He also fitted what I believe to be a Mk 1 BT Openreach filtered ADSL faceplate. He said as the fault was intermittent, it was "very difficult to work with".
All seemed well with the new faceplate until about 10pm on Friday. I happened to pick up the phone and noticed more static on the line, and my upstream noise margin dropped from 6.7 db to 0db. At the same time, the modem resynced, and the static cleared after about 30 seconds. The connection does NOT drop every time, though.
The call centre has raised a broadband fault, but the line went mysteriously dead during the call (I was speaking to them on a separate line, not the one affected), and no-one from the call centre bothered to phone me back. I already had to explain the problem TWICE to them. Very frustrating.
I really don't know if this is a high resistance fault, something wrong with the equipment at the exchange, or what? The engineer who attended made no tests for broadband faults, and said that the broadband tests were much more complex.
I'm stumped. I wonder if a moderator or a knowledgeable person here could please advise me further? I really would like this resolved.
    Many thanks.

Many thanks for your reply, imjolly. I've checked the cables and positioned the router away from any possible sources of interference.
Further to my earlier post, I tried another telephone handset this morning (an Opticom B300) and noticed that the background hiss was almost continuous this time, while the router was switched on. There was no crackling, though, and the connection did not drop. But when the router was powered down, the line was much quieter.
I'm guessing the broadband signal is starting to "break through" to the voice signal. That shouldn't happen, should it??
I went back to a BT Decor 110 handset (the one I always use) and the background noise was much reduced, even while the router was powered on.
No dropouts so far. I'm no expert in these matters, but it's almost as if an electrical charge begins to "build up" on the line, and then I will get a "storm" of static and crackles for up to 30 seconds. Then a loss of sync. Could be any time of day. Still stumped!

  • High noise on line?

Hello I use to have a sync rate of 8128kbps and a lower noise margin but for nearly 3 weeks my sync rate has been 7648kbps and my noise margin has been 15.4dB.
Is there anything I can do to put it back to normal?
    thanks
    Thanks

Can you really tell any difference between 7.6M and 8.1M when using the internet? My speed varies randomly between about 6.4M and 7.3M each time the Hub reconnects. I gave up caring about it long ago because it makes no difference to me.
You may find that interleaving has been turned on. This may happen if your line has been accumulating too many errors recently. This doesn't make much difference to the overall speed, but does increase ping times as packets are buffered. My line has a high error rate, and I don't play online games, so interleaving is good for me. It may not be for you. It is possible to get it turned off, but don't expect it to be easy.
Ultimately, ADSL is a technological bodge that should never work - it requires sending high frequencies over telephone lines that weren't designed to carry them. The fact that it works at all is a minor miracle. However it does mean that even a tiny loss in line quality can reduce the connection speed. Unless the loss is substantial, BT won't be interested in fixing it.

  • Hissing noise on line

Near continuous hissing noise. This has been getting steadily worse. This the same fault I had 3 years ago or so. The fault was found to be corroded terminals at the Terminal box on the telegraph pole. The "solution" was to sling a patch line under the existing line from one pole to the other!
There is NO FAULT with my equipment.
3 different phones were used with the same result.
The router -  modem were taken out of line with the same result
The Master Wall Socket has been replaced and the fault is still present
Any help you can give would be appreciated
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for the help. Phoned through and reported the fault. Engineer turned up promptly, and this man checked everything..he ran an extended quite line check and eventually we could her the crackiling noise. His past experience had shown him that sometimes this type  of fault does not show up right away. He checked my equipment in the house, and although I had replaced the master socket, he fitted the latest BT one, which was of a much higher spec. Anyway, the fault was traced to a Distribution Box on a pole outside the exchange, a faulty wire which he replaced.
He suggested I just keep a check on it over the next few days, but he seemed sure that was the problem. So I have a noisless line again! I'll take his advice though and monitor it. but so far its fine.
    Thanks again

  • Intermittent noise through line out + AJA Kona

I have a MacPro Dual Proc 2.66 dual core that's about 18 months old, with an AJA Kona LHe card that I use for film and audio editing. The Kona feeds an SDi input JVC Reference Monitor and the AJA KL interface feeds my Mackie mixer. The Audio line out also goes to the Mackie, so that I can monitor iTunes and Amadeus via AJA or Line out, depending on my process.
I have started noticing a really low intermittent hum that arrives at the mixer via the AJA KL box or from the analogue out. It is usually not there when I first start working but after an hour or so it starts, each burst lasts about 3-4 secs and is very low, painful to the ears.
I've tried plugging earphones in to the front socket and there is no hum at all.
I've tried linking fan activity to the hum without success.
I have SoundStiks for Desktop audio and there's no hum there either. I prefer to work with headphones when editing so I really want the AJA sound to be clean but can't fathom where the sound is coming from. Any ideas?

HI I am having the same problem with HUmming sounds coming from my Mackie mixer also. But the sound is constant and wont go away using the ajay card.
selecting the outputs to Internal speakers, or LINE OUT, or Digital out. the system using headphones I do not hear the humming only when selecting the AJA kona 3 card OUtput..I hear it with headphones and with external speakers.
When the Mac PRO QuadCore- Intel Xeon 2 x 3Ghz restarts the sound is still there during boot up and even if the system is shutdown.as long as the RCA cables are plugged into Ch1 and CH2 you will hear humming. BUT if you unplug the RCAs from CH1 and CH2 the hum stops.
I tried using a different wall outlet for power for the Mackie mixer and the external speakers I still had HUM. I tried another rackmounted AJAK3-Box still there was a HUM.
I am running out of ideas.
THis card has been in production in our environment for over years now. BUT the system recently was relocated to a new office...
I think it has something to do with the AC power in this area..
Is there something wrong with this card? Could there be a driver update? Have you resolved your issue YET?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Motion videos from captivate to .swf create visual noise - added lines

There are a lot of added lines, field box outlines, etc. added to all my video portions on the .swf output.
It's almost as if they are from a previous frame and just don't go away.  They're a little like a 'trail' mark from a previous frame in the video.
Is there any setting I can change to get this to stop or how can I clean these up?

Yes!  That did it - file size doesn't matter for me so this works.  Thank You

When applying pressure or twisting the bezel slightly, I can get the image to display but as soon as I let go, it goes back:
    http://imgur.com/eyLSO.jpg
What's wrong?? Loose connection somewhere? I've checked the display cable, but only the connection to the logic board. I didn't get to check inside the bezel to see if the cable connection there was solid.
I just checked and the laptop is still under warranty...going to go the apple store early tomorrow. Do you think they'll figure it out and repair it or do I have a better chance of receiving a new/refurb one?
    http://imgur.com/wyci2.png
    Thanks in advance!

By all means take it in. It looks like some sort of problem with the internal display, and I expect the repair would be to replace the display as a unit. I think you are onto something with the idea of a poor or broken contact somewhere, but I don't know that they would try to fix something like that.
Most likely they would repair your Mac rather than replacing it. It might not be a bad idea to run the Apple Hardware test to see if there is anything else that might need to be fixed before the warranty expires--like maybe your hard drive.
    Good luck!

  • Line Frequency Noise

    Hi!
I am acquiring data from a digital readout unit using AI on my PCI-6034 card (with CB-68LP).
    This signal is VDC (±10mV)
Lets say the output from the digital readout unit is solid 3mV. When I display the acquired signal, I see a random noise signal varying a few mV either side of 3mV (instead of a straight line at 3mV).
    What could be the cause?
How can I find out if this noise is line induced voltage noise and if yes, how can I remove it?
Do I need to use averaging/filtering?
    My system is Win2000, LV-PDS 6.1 and NI-DAQ 6.9.2
    Thanks!,

    LD,
Thanks. I tried what you suggested. The resulting screen shots are attached to this post.
As in the previous case, I have used 21210 numeric channel in MAX.
There is improvement but honestly I am not clear what is happening here. The signal still looks 'noisy' although the peak to peak levels have decreased.
    Q) Shouldn't I see a solid zero line?
Also, there is NO difference (for the input ranges ±10V, ±1V, ±0.1V) when I see data in my VI. I've used AI config, AI start and AI read.
    Feeling somewhat lost .....
    Best regards,

  • Questions - Drop Lines & Responsibility, Noise, En...

    Hi,
I wonder if you could answer a few questions:
#1 Are BT/OpenReach responsible for the wire from the back of the NTE5 master socket and beyond?
I believe I am only responsible for anything from the master socket "inwards" inside my home. #151 faults have told me I am responsible for everything within the boundary of my property.
#2 Our local area is all underground cabling. The phoneline comes under the front gardens (semi-detached), and appears at the wall, middle of both houses. Small circular junction box, line off to each house. The cable from the junction to our house is 6-core white cable, looks suspiciously the same as the internal extension wiring you can buy yourself. Should this quality of cable be used externally?
#3 There is a second phone line to our home from the junction box, we have never had a second line so presume the previous owners asked for this. The line is not connected, I have removed the wall socket it went to and clipped the cable back. This 2nd line cable is a simple grey 2-core, and I have noticed that it has a break in the outer sleeve, and can see the bare metal of the enclosed cable. Would this be a free of charge visit by an Engineer to remove?
    Background:
Two weeks ago, I was prompted by failing internet connection to do the quiet line test using a corded phone in the master socket. To say there was noise on the line was an understatement! Unfortunately #151 fault did a line test and reported no problems. Then warned of £130 call out charge, and asked if I wanted an Engineer out. Of course I didn't want to risk it, replacement router seemed to coincidentally arrive when the line noise had subsided.
Back to testing today, same quiet line test, still have feint noise on line. Nothing spectacular but all the same, I'd rather it resolved.
#151, same routine. Do a line test, no fault, warn of £130 charge and ask if I want an Engineer out.
Here lies the rub, I am wondering if the broken second line cable and/or the internal quality cable on their own would be sufficient for an Engineer to visit anyway, ie FREE. Can I get an answer out of #151, no I can't. The ropey answer to question #1 above from #151 leads me to believe I can't get off the call centre script of "do line test, book engineer."
I wish I was responsible for the line within my property, I could happily remove and replace the cables!
edit: coincidentally two weeks the weather was very bad, torrential rain and wind. Now it's sunny, calm but **bleep** cold. This "noise" has been on and off over the years, but hasn't caused internet issues until now.

Apologies, please subsitute "Test Socket" for "Master Socket" in my original post!
After reading other posts, I am just worried about an Engineer turning up for "line noise" and there being none on the day in question, and thus being on the receiving end of a £130 bill.
edit: I am trying to ascertain if the outside cables are in fact "an issue", and will lead to a guaranteed free Engineer visit regardless of line noise.
Well if the noise is still there at the test socket, then there is an external issue somewhere. The "internal" cable used outside does not sound right. It could have water ingress causing all manner of problems.
In theory, Openreach should do what they call a "Quality Check", at the cabinet and distribution point, especially if its a repeat fault.
It could be a high resistance connection or corrosion.
Charging is a difficult issue. It all depends on how the Openreach technician closes their job. Sometime charges can be raised by mistake.
I would report it as an intermittent noisy phone problem which happens when it rains, and mention the poor state of the external DP (Distribution Point). Do not report it as broadband fault
With luck they should repace the wiring, and remove any unwanted terminations, which could be introducing noise into the line.
If the Openreach technician does do work outside, then he should make sure that this is recorded as the possible fault, and not "fault not found (FNF)" or "right when tested (RWT)".
If that is done correctly, then you should not be charged. You may like to mention it to them

  • Tecra A3 106 Noise on Audio Output while Charging

    Hello all,
My Tecra A3 generates an annoying noise on line out/headphone output while charging the battery.
when it's unplugged, the noise goes off.
    Is that normal?
    Thanks in advance.
    Onur.

Hello there Pedro, please forgive me for my late reply, I was unable to test meanwhile,
and yeah, I removed the battery and booted my laptop with AC power. Result : the same sound.
I also noticed that, If i listen closely my charger unit, i can hear the same sound from the charger too...(It's obviously the same, but a hoarse noise)
Afterall, It's not distorting internal speakers, that happens when i use the line out for my amplificator.
Whenever I plug it out, I have no problem such as an annoying distortion voice on line out jacks.
