Noise Partially Comes Back in Library View & Exports

Ok I have a very strange thing happening in LR3.  When I select a very noisy image in my library and take it into develop mode, convert it to 2010 calibration and make the adjustments to noise it looks spectacular.  But when I click to go back to Library mode the noise partially comes back.  So it looks partially crappy again. When I export the photo it exports as it looks in library view, poorer than when in develop view.  I find that it is more noticeable on certain colors like browns but still noticeable on anything I have tried nonetheless.
So I thought to myself ... lets check it in LR2!  Discovered the strangest thing.  When I do it in LR2, I get the opposite effect.  It actually looks better in Library mode than in develop mode.  I never noticed that before.
Is anyone having the same issue?
I am using an i7 iMac 27 inch with 4GB RAM and OSX 10.6.4

When you compare noise in something versus another, always examine the pictures at 100% view. Otherwise, you risk too fool yourself.

  • Deleted audio comes back when movie is exported.

    When I view the project in iMovie, there is no audio except for the music tracks I added, but when I export it as a quicktime movie or to DVD, the audio that I had removed is back. I have double checked the settings, everything is muted, and I even went through and detached the audio from each clip. It still comes back every time I export the movie in any type of format. And I am using speed changes in my Video project. Quiet a few actually.  Any ideas why this keeps happening?

  • Some photos don't show in LIbrary view--just the outlines of them

    Tonight I tried to transfer a bunch of digital photos from a CD my daughter burned into my iPhoto library, into the 2006 year folder.
    I opened the CD and in the icon view, the pictures looked fine--jpeg files.
    After I transferred them, these pictures don't show in my initial iPhoto window (the one that opens first when you click on iPhoto in the Dock, and shows all the pictures in my Library sorted by (in my case) roll/date.
    Then photo thumbnails from years prior to 2005 show up, fine, but for the most recent year of pictures, all I get are the outlines of where the thumbnails ought to show. When I click on one of the blank thumbnails, of course I get a blank ...but the frame in the lower left shows the ID info for the picture and the picture counts, etc.
    I can open the folders from the Pictures file and see them...they just won't show up in the overall Library window.
    So...I moved the transferred ones out of the iPhoto library and just put them in the Pictures folder for now.
    But what did I do? And how do I "fix it" to make all the thumbnails show up again? This is probably some simple thing...but I can't figure it out. I tried showing just the last 12 months...and I get all the blank outlines.
    G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Using iPhoto 5, 768MB RAM,

    Hi john,
    First problem. You need to import photos into the iPhoto Library the correct way which is while iPhoto is open. Drag the photos out of where you put them (you already did) now you can import them into iPhoto from there.
    Read on for more info....--First thing to know and remember is this...Do not drag any images, folder of images into the iPhoto Library in the Finder. Images have to be imported into iPhoto within the application. Do not scan images and save them into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. Save them to another location such as the Pictures folder or even the desktop. You can then import them into iPhoto.
    If you have already put files/folders in the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder then you will also find out that if you try to import them into iPhoto you will get an error message. No worry, just drag them to the desktop and import from there.
    --All images that you import are shown in the library view. You can choose how you want to view, by rolls, by date, by rating, etc. When you put images in an Album, slideshow, book, etc, you are actually just putting pointers to those images in the library. You are not adding more images. If you delete an image from the Album it will still be in the library. If you delete an image from the library it is deleted from iPhoto's database and your hard drive (unless you have it backed up somewhere else)
    --You have a folder of images on your hard drive and want to import them into iPhoto. Drag the folder of images into an open iPhoto Library window and the folder of photos will be copied into the library, resulting in a new roll with the name of the folder. You now have two copies of those photos, the ones in iPhoto's database and the ones on your desktop. You can keep the ones on your desktop that you just imported as backup or you can delete that folder.
    -- you scan a picture/pictures and save it in a folder. You cannot scan directly into iPhoto or the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder.
    You want all your photos in iPhoto so you import them into iPhoto.
    Now you have two copies of that picture/pictures, so you can delete the originals that were in the scanned folder and keep the one/ones that were imported into iPhoto.
    -- You download pictures from your camera into iPhoto.
    There is now one copy of each of the pictures. (DO NOT HAVE IPHOTO DELETE THE IMAGES FROM YOUR CAMERA! DELETE THEM MANUALLY WITH THE CAMERA-if something goes wrong with the import and they are never imported and then they are deleted from the camera you might end up losing those images)
    You want to change something about a picture you imported, such as
    cropping it or changing the size, or changing the orientation.
    Once you do that to a picture, you now have two copies of the picture
    in iPhoto, the original and the edited one. The edited one will be in the library organize view. The original is packed away in an Original folder in your iPhoto Library folder under the date of the roll. You can always revert to the original by control clicking on the photo and choose "revert to orginal" You will not have this choice if you used iPhoto Diet to get rid of the Originals.
    (a quick note on cropping within iPhoto...when you are in edit mode, you automatically will be in the crop mode with cross hairs to highlight the crop area. To finish cropping you must click the crop button and then go back to library view and your cropped picture will be there.
    3.You want to use Photoshop or another graphic program to edit a picture in your iPhoto library.
    You can open up prefs for iPhoto and choose "when double clicking on
    photo ..do" choose "other" and select Photoshop. Now you can edit all
    pictures in your iPhoto library in PhotoShop by double clicking. If you save the photo with the same name and as a flattened file it will be saved right into iPhoto and you will see the changes. If you don't want to save it into iPhoto then do a "save as" and save to the desktop. You will then have the original photo still in iPhoto and your new edited photo on the desktop.
    Or, with iPhoto open, you can drag a picture from the library window
    to your desktop (you see a + sign on the pic you are dragging). You now
    have two of the same picture, one in the iPhoto library and one on your desktop. You can open up the one on your desktop in any graphic program and work on it. The one in iPhoto stays the same. You can also share/export the picture/pictures to your desktop or folder to work on them or do batch processing, etc. You will still have the originals in your iPhoto Library.
    Or, you can open up the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/folders and option drag any
    picture out of the folder to your desktop. Notice that you will see a plus sign while dragging the photo. This is copying the file to your desktop
    I would advise anyone not to do this as they might forget to use the option key and drag the photo out. Next time you open iPhoto the photo will be missing.

    About the iPhoto Library folder
    Don't forget that in Library view you can Control click on any picture and get a contextual menu with many options. One is to revert to original.
    Now to get to your next problem...do a "get info" on your iPhoto Library folder.

  • Can I quickly 'go to' a particular photo ID number in Library view?

    In (for example Word) you can click F5 and then type a page number that you want to quickly be taken to view.  In LightRoom Library view, each photo displays a lovely ID number, but why?  Can I press something, like F5, and then type in my desired photo ID number to be taken quickly to it?  I'm sorting my entire existing photo stash of 41,500 photos and want to be able to easily go to the point where I left off.
    I tried F5, and I've looked through all the pull-down menus but can't find any quick way of getting where I want to be.
    Many thanks
    May

    I had a reply from JimHess (thank you Jim) but it's not showing here for me.
    If you can see this Jim - no, I'm not looking to find a photo by its 'real name' or anything I've assigned to it.  When I'm in the Library of LR in grid view, all of the photos have a large number in pale grey font at the top left of their dark grey 'frame'.  I was hoping to be able to go off into a collection or something and then come back to Library Grid and type the last number I'd looked at before to get back to the spot I was working.
    If I was looking in small collections or folders it would be fine, but I'm sorting the entire 41,000 photos already on my harddrive when I first bought LR a few days ago.  Using the side scroll bar to get back to the spot when I had been before is not working well for me.

  • Images displaying differently in Library view to Develop - also affecting Exports

    I've run in to a strange problem since the 4.1 upgrade.
    When displayed in the Library view, images are not appearing correctly.  In my case, there is a huge amount more noise in the Library view compared to the Develop view.  This is also affecting Exports.
    I have been unable to find any answers online, and only found one other case of this reported via a You Tube video.
    Any ideas?!
    Many thanks
    Rick

    I am assuming you have a correctly calibrated monitor calibrated using a hardware calibrator. Lightroom sometimes shows the aforementioned problems with canned monitor profiles on windows machines. Now that out of the way:
    I am also having this problem - the library view is closer to the printer output - very frustrating! In dev mode the image is lighter - sometimes appears to be too hot, but in library and during print it is just right. This was not a problem in 3 - what's the fix?
    Have you tried seeing what happens when you soft proof for the paper profile in the Develop module?
    It seem the fit views do not match up...the confusion comes in that it seems the fill views sometimes do, and sometimes do not match. when the images appear different, I've the sense in dev the images are brighter and hotter.
    This can happen if your image is very noisy or has a lot of high frequency detail. The sharpening preview in fit view that is applied in Develop tends to brighten images with lots of noise or detail. It also happens when you are applying a lot of color noise reduction and have a lot of colored detail. SInce Lightroom cannot really show you the result of this correctly but for when looking at 1:1, this results in the Fit preview showing more color saturation than there really is.

  • [11g] Datapump Export "job_state" comes back "STOPPED" but no error in log.

    Hello,
    First of all, here are the SQL statements that I'm executing:
    BEGIN :JobId := Dbms_DataPump.Open(operation => 'EXPORT', job_mode => 'TABLE'); END;
    BEGIN
      Dbms_DataPump.Add_File(handle => :JobId, filename => 'MYORACLEBACKUP1', directory => 'ABAT_DUMP_DIR', filetype => 1, reusefile => 1); --DMP
      Dbms_DataPump.Add_File(handle => :JobId, filename => 'MYORACLEBACKUP.log', directory => 'ABAT_DUMP_DIR', filetype => 3); --LOG
      Dbms_DataPump.Metadata_Filter(handle => :JobId, name => 'SCHEMA_LIST', value => '''PRTO9A''');
      Dbms_DataPump.Metadata_Filter(handle => :JobId, name => 'NAME_LIST', value => '''ALERTS''');
      Dbms_DataPump.Set_Parallel(handle => :JobId, degree => 1);
      Dbms_DataPump.Start_Job(handle => :JobId);
      Dbms_DataPump.Wait_For_Job(handle => :JobId, job_state => :JobState);
    END;Now, I actually construct this using C#, so "PRTO9A" and "ALERTS" are dynamically queried for. This means that they are definitely valid schemas / tables. Also, a consequence of using C# is that the two variables :JobId and :JobState come from the .NET implementation of this DB stuff (in other words, I specify "JobId" and "JobState" as input or output variables in the C# code before I run the query... JobId is an output variable in the first statement, but an input variable in the second one).
    The result is that "JobState" comes back "STOPPED," which is documented as an error:
    When WAIT_FOR_JOB returns, the job will no longer be executing. If the job completed normally, the final status will be Completed. If the job stopped executing because of a STOP_JOB request or an internal error, the final status will be Stopped.OK, so I get a "STOPPED" back, which means there's an error. Let me check the log file (MYORACLEBACKUP.log)...

    OK I finally got around to trying "GET_STATUS." This issue looks deep.
    So, my original issue was that my "JOB_STATE" was coming back "Stopped" instead of "Completed." I did a "GET_STATUS" of a "Stopped" (but successful) job, and, as I expected, I got error_count 0, and the error table is null. Fine, so I will check the "GET_STATUS" if I get a "Stopped..."
    So I tried the complementary case, where I have a job that will fail. In this case, it's expected to get a "Stopped" status back (even though it's 'faulty' in the sense that it's ALWAYS "Stopped"). Checking the error_count, I get 0 back. WHAT!? AND the error table is STILL null! What the heck is going on?
    Here's my new SQL:
    DECLARE
      state VARCHAR2(15);
      output KU$_STATUS1010;
      errorTable KU$_LogEntry1010;
    BEGIN
      Dbms_DataPump.Add_File(handle => :JobId, filename => 'MYORACLEBACKUP_bdzevel1.dmp', directory => 'ABAT_DUMP_DIR', filetype => 1, reusefile => 1); --DMP
      Dbms_DataPump.Add_File(handle => :JobId, filename => 'MYORACLEBACKUP_bdzevel2.dmp', directory => 'ABAT_DUMP_DIR', filetype => 1, reusefile => 1); --DMP
      Dbms_DataPump.Add_File(handle => :JobId, filename => 'MYORACLEBACKUP_bdzevel.log', directory => 'ABAT_DUMP_DIR', filetype => 3); --LOG
      Dbms_DataPump.Metadata_Filter(handle => :JobId, name => 'SCHEMA_LIST', value => '''DATAPUMPUSER''');
      Dbms_DataPump.Metadata_Filter(handle => :JobId, name => 'NAME_LIST', value => '''MYTESTTABLE_FAKEEEE''');
      Dbms_DataPump.Set_Parallel(handle => :JobId, degree => 2);
      Dbms_DataPump.Start_Job(handle => :JobId);
      Dbms_DataPump.Wait_For_Job(handle => :JobId, job_state => :JobState);
      :ErrorMessage := '';
      IF upper(:JobState) = 'STOPPED' THEN
        Dbms_DataPump.Get_Status(handle => :JobId, mask => 15, timeout => NULL, job_state => state, status => output);
        errorTable := output.ERROR;
        IF errorTable IS NOT NULL AND errorTable.COUNT > 0 THEN
          FOR element in 1 .. errorTable.COUNT LOOP
            IF :ErrorMessage = '' THEN
              :ErrorMessage := :ErrorMessage || CHR(13) || CHR(10);
            END IF;
            :ErrorMessage := :ErrorMessage || TO_CHAR(errorTable(element).LOGLINENUMBER) || ': ORA' || TO_CHAR(errorTable(element).ERRORNUMBER) || ' - ' || errorTable(element).LOGTEXT;
          END LOOP;
        END IF;
        :ErrorMessage := :ErrorMessage || output.JOB_STATUS.JOB_NAME || ' ' || output.JOB_STATUS.ERROR_COUNT || ' ' || output.JOB_STATUS.STATE;
      END IF;
    END;The error I get back in both cases reads "SYS_TEXPORT_TABLE_04 0 COMPLETED" (which is in the format JOB_NAME ERROR_COUNT STATE, as you can see above), but in the latter case (a FAILED job... as you can see above, I have "MYTESTTABLE_FAKEEEE" as my table, which doesn't exist, and a consequence, the .log properly logs a failure.) I SHOULD be getting back something in output.ERROR or AT LEAST output.JOB_STATUS.ERROR_COUNT..... BUT output.ERROR is NULL and ERROR_COUNT is 0! What gives?
    P.S.> I logged an SR about this, since it looks like a pretty big issue, but maybe you guys can see something that I'm not seeing faster than the support rep.

    Hi,
    We have rolled out a fix for this issue.
    Please log off and log back in to your machine and the issue should be resolved automatically. In case that does not work, please manually run the msi installer posted here (may require reboot).
    For details, please refer to the KB article here: Multiple RunOnce keys created 11.0.10 and 10.1.13 Acrobat | Reader
    Please let us know if you still face any issues.

  • Exporting library vs exporting masters // backing up

    Hi there
    Im just trying to export the highest possible resolution images so that I can make multiple back ups.
    However, what is the difference between exporting a library, vs exporting masters?
    When I export a library and I open it up again from an external hard drive the metadata says they are all RAW files, which is what I want. Is the damange in doing this is that I can then only ever open them up in Aperture?
    What about DNG files, does aperture convert to dng?
    Perhaps there are other aperture users that would like to share their backing up system because mine needs total re-doing
    Thanks!
    -Mollt

    Your master files contain all the work you did in camera. They are your image files produced by the camera.
    Your library contains all the work you did on the computer. Things like rating, edits, slideshows, albums, etc.
    If you export the master files, you are only backing up the master files, not all the work you did on the computer.
    To make a backup copy of your library, don't use export, use finder and make a copy from there (export works as well, but gives a new internal library ID so is not technically an exact copy). By making a copy, this backs up all the work you've done on your computer and probably your master files as well (see next comment).
    You also need to understand the difference between Managed Files and Referenced Files. You decide this when you originally import the files into Aperture. By default, it will copy the images into the Aperture library (managed files), so when you copy the library, you are making a copy of both your images and all the work you did on the computer).
    However, if, when importing, you chose not to store the image files in the library (Referenced files) then making a copy of the library only backs up the work you did on the computer, not your master files. So you'll need a backup copy of those too, either by copying the folder that contains them in finder, or by using Export Masters, or using your backup software.

  • If I subscribe to Icloud and store my library there ,do the lossless versions of my music come back to me lossless or do they come back at 256 KBS

    If I subscribe to I Cloud and store my music library there , do the lossless versions come back to me later lossless, or do they come back at 256 kbs ?

    Hi...
    It depends on whether your songs are matched or not.
    If your music is matched then it will download at 256kbs, i.e. if you delete the original lossless file it will redownload as 256kbs from iCloud. If a song is not matched, it will be uploaded in the original bitrate that it was encoded with.
    Hope this helps.

  • Trying to upgrade 3.6.28 to 27, imported bookmarks, Library view shows all folders in proper sequence, but 99% are not in Toolbar view at all.

    Jscher and Cor-el tried to help me a few years back w/o success.
    Trying again to upgrade from 3.6 (XP) to 27 (Win7).
    Exported from 3.6 as HTML file (also have json), and imported into 27.
    Last time, I never 'found' most of my bookmarks in FF 27. Especially not the folders.
    This time, I tried Library View and it appears everything is there, folders, subs, in sequence etc.
    BUT ... unlike in 3.6.28, I can still only see the contents of one folder in the right pane at a time.
    I can't work like that.
    SO ... maybe, I can access ALL my bookmarks some other way (not via Library)? Via a toolbar perhaps?
    But for some reason, the collection in the toolbar doesn't remotely resemble the organized collection I see in the Library. Virtually no folders, and in chaotic order. Many missing it appears. If the contents from the Library were mirrored in the Toolbar (using AIOS), I'd be good to go. Is this what I should expect? What more can I try?
    Thanks!!!

    The Library can manage all the bookmarks, but you need to open one of the three main folders in the left pane to see the bookmarks in that folder in the right pane.
    There are three main Bookmarks folders and bookmarks can only be created in one of those folders and its sub folders.
    * The "Bookmarks Toolbar" folder stores the bookmarks that you see on the Bookmarks Toolbar (Firefox > Options or View > Toolbars).
    * The "Bookmarks Menu" folder stores bookmarks that show in the Bookmarks menu and are created via "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" or via "Bookmark This Link" in the right-click context menu.
    * The "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder stores bookmarks that are created by clicking the star at the right end of the location bar.

  • Successfully imported json bookmarks file into FF19, and library view shows folders correctly, but Sidebar view shows no folders and so loses my organization.

    Longtime FF user. Still on 3.6.28 mostly, due to my need for my large collection of hierarchically organized bookmarks. I have 2000+.
    Trying FF 19 today.
    Successfully imported the json file from other system.
    Via the Bookmarks menu, Show All reaches Library view and everything is there. Except for the fact that this FF design will not let me see the contents of more than one folder at one time. Which is why I've stayed with 3.6.28.
    Now, a friend has shown me that I can see multiple folders AND the contents of multiple folders using Sidebar Bookmarks, just as I wish. Great! But after importing my bookmarks, all I see is a random list of bookmarks in the Sidebar view. There are no folders or subfolders so with this view I lose all the organizational structure I see in the Library.
    Am I missing something? Is there a way (an addon) that would put everything in the Library Right Pane? instead of just one folder? That would be fine.
    OR
    Is there a way to preserve the organization of my bookmarks after importing them, in the Sidebar view? That would also be fine.
    Thanks for any helpful answers. Otherwise, back to 3.6.28 I go.

    In the Library view, everything functions as Mozilla would have it. Yes, individual bookmarks are not to be seen, except in the right side pane. And only from one folder at a time. Returning to the beginning, that was my complaint with Show All Bookmarks and why I've stuck with 3.6.28 coupled with Old Manage Bookmarks.
    And that's why I asked if anyone is aware of an addon to make the contents of more than one folder visible in the right hand pane of the Library view in FF 4 and up. I've even tried Mike S's "hack" of OMB to see if I could make "Organize Bookmarks" return on FF19. No luck.
    So Library View works as it "should". But that's insufficient for my needs.
    You've indicated that Sidebar view SHOULD function as I wish. But so far, barring a fix, I don't see folders, subfolders nor individual bookmarks ''in the order'' that they started in, from PC1. I don't know why that failed. I'm happy to keep trying things, til the moon turns green.
    Proceeding along -- sort Library? Yes, sorting works. But since the Library is functioning, unsorted is my preference. To make the Library View FULLY ADEQUATE though, I'd want to see bookmarks in different folders viewable at one time. What I need is the Sidebar view with all the folders showing, replicating the Library's View hierarchical structure.
    HTML export and import? I'm sure I can import one into FF19. But I don't know how to export them from PC1 as my bookmarks are in .json format. When I try to do that, the dialog window confines me to selecting an HTML file, and so I can't export the .json file I have. I'm sure there's an easy answer, but its not intuitive.
    Thx

  • Using images in library view when file is missing

    I have some images in the library but the file is missing. Can I somehow use the image displayed in the library view and export to disk for printing or e-mail? I’m using v4 on a Mac. Thanks.
    Following on from the above I have downloaded the Extract previws help guide. http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/extract-previews-lightroom-4.htmlThis runs a script to enable extracts to be made. After a bit of messing about with the process for choosing where to house the extracted files this works perfectly. It has certainly saved me a lot of pain and heartache.

    Hi Amer,
    There is a web item 'Menu bar' available in WAD 7.0.
