  • Ground Noise Problem Possibly Attributed to Samsung Monitor

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 730b and a 15” Apple Powerbook G4 (1.67 GHz), powered by the standard Apple 65 watt power adapter. I typically connect my Samsung 730b monitor to my Powerbook to use it as a second display connected through a DVI cable. For some reason my power adapter plugged into the Powerbook is turning itself off, which fails to charge my battery and eventually drains the computer to nothing. I am able to get the power adapter to start charging again if I unplug it from the wall and then plug it back in.
I have been troubleshooting the problem for months and have spent a lot of time researching online, including all of the pertinent Apple and Samsung support forums I can find. Apple says that the power adapter shutoff occurs because the AC adapter's over voltage protection feature senses ground noise and turns off the adapter. The company also says that it may not happen if the power adapter is plugged into an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
I have not tried a UPS yet because it will require a significant purchase and only some users on the support forums have found the UPS to be successful at stopping the power adapter shutoffs. I have reset the PRAM, NVRAM, and PMU that Apple and individual users have suggested and I continue to have the problem. The problem persists no matter what outlets, surge protector, or combination of the two is used for the Powerbook and/or monitor. I normally have additional peripherals connected to my computer, but the problem has persisted without any devices (other than the Samsung monitor) plugged into my computer.
I have had the problem at my current apartment and my previous apartment. I have never had the problem in any other location I have used my laptop, but I have also never used my Samsung monitor in any location other than my current and past apartments. I have connected the laptop to a Westinghouse LCD television for more than a week and used that as a second monitor (to troubleshoot the problem). I have not had a problem with my power adapter while using the Westinghouse as a second monitor. I have only had the problem when my Samsung is connected to my Powerbook. The problem persists whether or not I use a VGA cable with DVI adapter or a straight DVI cable from the monitor to the laptop. The problem does not occur if the monitor is not plugged in to my laptop, regardless of whether or not it is powered on (e.g. my monitor turned on and searching for a signal that isn’t there does not cause the Powerbook to have a problem). The problem also persists whether I set the external monitor to a 60 hz refresh rate or a 75 hz refresh rate.
*To recap, the problem is not solved by:*
    -Using a different monitor cable
-Using a different power outlet for the computer
-Using a different power outlet for the monitor
-Using a different power outlet for the surge protector
-Using a different surge protector for the computer
-Using a different surge protector for the monitor
-Bypassing the surge protector and plugging the computer straight into the wall
    -Resetting the computer’s PRAM
    -Resetting the computer’s NVRAM
-Resetting the computer’s Power Management Unit (PMU)
-Using a different refresh rate on the Samsung monitor
-Unplugging all peripherals from the computer except for the Samsung monitor
-Using the computer and monitor in a completely different apartment (on the other side of town)
    *The problem is solved by:*
-Using a non-Samsung LCD TV as a second monitor
    -Not using an external monitor
My troubleshooting leads me to believe that the Samsung monitor is causing a problem through its connection to the computer. I do not believe it is a problem with the monitor’s connection to the power outlets in the apartment because the problem does not occur when the monitor is powered on and unconnected to the computer. I therefore do not believe plugging the monitor and/or computer into a UPS will solve the problem.
I do not believe it is possible for the monitor to be sending electrical noise out of itself and into the apartment’s power outlets, but if it is, I have one additional troubleshooting configuration I would try.
I understand this is an elaborate description of my situation, but I hope it is helpful in showing the isolation of variables and troubleshooting actions I have followed. Have any other users encountered a similar problem? What do you believe the problem to be and what suggestions do you have for me to continue using my Samsung monitor?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    Hey Lou and eww,
    Thanks for your quick replies.
The problem started about a year ago in my previous apartment. I do not have any AC line control devices, but I don’t think my current neighbor’s connections are relevant because I had the problem in my previous apartment. My previous apartment was actually a room in a house and that is where my problem first appeared. I had the same setup there as I do in my current apartment, so I counted that as my “second location.” Eww, Are you recommending I try another?
I don’t think I mentioned this in the original post, but my problem doesn’t happen at consistent time or time intervals. It happened about five minutes ago, but that was the first time it happened since I posted on the forum about 14 hours ago. Sometimes the adapter goes off twice in an hour, sometimes it can be several hours or days before it happens.
I am using the grounded three prong cord that attaches to the white apple power block.
If I were to get a new power adapter, I’m thinking the igo juice70 or igo everywhere85. If I were to get a UPS, I’m thinking the APC UPS BE550G or BE550R. Please comment if anyone knows any specifics about these products that probably won’t help my situation. Like I said originally, I am trying to avoid purchases unless I am pretty confident they will solve my problems. I will try to borrow a friend’s power adapter soon and see if that is less sensitive.
Any additional comments or suggestions by anyone are always appreciated! Thanks!

  • G72-b57cl notebook mic noise from CPU fan

g72-b57cl notebook mic noise from CPU fan
At first I bought this laptop, mic setting was disabled. I enabled this, and then I can't talk through the mic because of noice from CPU fan. how can I solve this problem?

See, I'm not entirely sure it's the fan.  I can just hear it more easily the closer I get to the fan, which leads me to believe it's somewhere around there.  As in, not the HDD on the other side of the computer, though I suppose it could feasibly be it.  I also think I could have described the noise a bit better.  It seems to sound like the CPU when it's under strain, but...not the same, I can't quite explain it.  The computer will heat up and spin the fan independently of this.  If it is the CPU or GPU, then I don't see what's generating this extra load separate from the nvidia-utils, which I already had earlier.

Try an SMC Reset. (System Management Controller)
Shutdown>unplug from power for ten minutes>press and hold in the power button for ten seconds>startup again.
Also try a PRAM Reset. (Parameter RAM)
Shutdown. At the bootup chime, hold down CMD-Option-P-R together, wait for two more chimes, total three, then let go of all keys to finish booting,
If this doesn't do it, run the Hardware Test in Extended

  • Recording noise problem

    Hello,
I am in the process of doing a voice over for a film documentary, the problem is the background noise, I'm guessing the noise origin is from the computer. I'm using high end mic's and excellent cables, is there a solution for this or am I better off using a stand alone digital multi-track? Something tells me the software was not designed to record from a high end computer with i7 processors, they can be a little noisy from cooling fans.
Big thanks in advance for your input.

I'm not quite sure why the software would or wouldn't be designed to do this??? It's perfectly possible to house an i7 processor and the rest of the hardware for it in a box that makes virtually no sound at all - but you will have to pay quite a bit for this, admittedly. If you are thinking of doing much voice-over work though, it might be worth it.
Assuming that you can't do this immediately, then you have to live with what you've got. If you record using a microphone in any noisy environment, you will pick it up with a sensitive microphone. So really it's the environment you need to be controlling here; get the microphone away from the computer! How long are your excellent cables? Are you using them coiled up? Also, if the microphone is directional, them make sure that the dead side is facing the source of the noise.

  • Noise Problems at 100 iso

Hey im a rookie working editing a music video i shot.
From what I was taught about noise. It comes from high iso and underexposed images.
I shot in bright day light at 100 iso and footage has noise problems.
Heres the link to the vid im editing. Its at 17secs(look at the black jacket) and all the way thru.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJoRdqyE-70
Canon t4i with kit lens. 24fps, 50 shutter speed, Lightform c picture style

That's what I call "codec noise", sadly a known and hard (if possible) to avoid issue with canon VDSLR. Things that might help :
    - using an on camera "flat" color profile like flaat10.
    - lowering contrast, saturation and sharpening on this profile (the guy behing flaat10 provide good guidelines for his profiles).
    - disabling every picture processing options like "highlight priority".
    - staying away from the exposure zone were the issue is most visible, ie better plan your lighting and exposure. Being outdoor with a nice sun at 100 iso won't matter if you're shooting people standing in a shadow area with dark clothes. Keep in mind that with this kind of camera you have a very limited dynamic range to work with. Shadow + sunlight will give you nothing but overexposed highlights and muddy shadows.
    - not doing the post work in native H264 but rather transcode to something like DNxHD or ProRes (that was usefull with FCP7 and Color, I have no idea how Premiere handle this, never tested and probably never will).
    - not letting this drive you crazy. It's quite hard to see in your video and I probably only saw it because I knew what you were talking about before I even watched the video. It is highly improbable that most viewer will notice it.

  • Noise problem

I got my MacBookPro end of April. For some time now I have a noise problem which is very annoying. At first I thought it is only in my imagination until it severely intefered with my concentration and even my well-being. It is a high frequency noise which stops when I close the display. The noise seems to go up and down with the screen brightness. After reading through the discussion threads and finding information on the whining-noise - which seems to be a well known issue - I experimented with blowing into the areas where the fans are located and.....surprise, surprise the high frequency noise seems to be gone for the moment. Had anybody similar experiences??? and what would you recommend.

Let's not get overly dramatic... noise affecting your well being? Research will show that if it is truly affecting your well being you fall within the 8% of people that may develop depression, anxiety, or another psychological disorder from everyday stimuli. If you are not being overly dramatic, I would suggest seeing a psychiatrist... seriously, I'm not being a jerk.

This is a known problem, some call it the "Screen Inverter Whine". Faulty screen inverters were present in many of the MBPs released between January 2006 and roughly June 2006.
The solution to the problem is having AppleCare replace your screen inverter.
Call Apple Care and describe your problem. They will handle it by shipping you a box to send to a repair center. Your computer should be out of your hands roughly 3-5 business days depending on shipping times.
    Good Luck.

  • 6120c speaker noise problem

I have puchased Nokia 6120c a month before. It work fine up to my requirement and expectation.
Since last some days, it created noise in the front size speaker and sometimes mutes while listening to some caller. But when I make the volume down, it works fine.
I will be grateful if you please guide me how can be get rid of this inconvenience of speaker noise problem, and suggest me the solution.

    Which HD do you have?
    1. There is a constant noise from it and by
monitoring the fan sensors it have concluded that
they are not to blame. Altough it sounds like a fan
that is constantly on because it sounds like air
flowing inside the computer. As far as i can tell the
noise seems to be most apparent under the trackpad.
This noise is on from the moment i turn on the
    machine until i shut.
It might just be the sound of the hard drive spinning. They don't appear to ever spin down. Especially the 7200 one like I have.
    2. I belive or am imagining to my self that the
harddrive is becoming louder when writing/reading
    activity.
It not just your imagination runnin away with you. On occasions mine makes some clicks, etc. when reading or writing.
So from these two issues i tought it migh have been
the harddrive that had some fault on it, but i cant
seem to find any, the S.M.A.R.T. status is verified
and there is never any sounds which might suggest bad
    sectors on it.
I think it just may be "normal" for these drives.
    3. Every 2-3 secconds there is a faint noise from the
PowerBook and i belive that this might have something
to do with the Power as when it is not pluged into
the mains there is no sound. It sounds like a very
    quite heartbeat monitor.
    No clue what that is.

  • Table Problems after Word Export from RH8

I am running RoboHelp HTML 8 as part of Technical Communications Suite 2 on Windows XP Professional and exporting to Word 2007. This is a recent upgrade. Previously, I was just running RoboHelp 8 without TCS. All of the Adobe software is completely patched and up-to-date.
The help system I am converting to Word is large and results in over 600 pages of Word content with a lot of tables (generally just for data presentation and not layout purposes). I'm also using build tags and single-sourcing this document to another, shorter document that is over 400 pages long.
I have exported various documents from RoboHelp to Word many, many times before, and although I don't like the amount of reformatting I have to do, I'm used to the effort involved. However, the behavior seems to have changed recently.
These days (possibly after the conversion to TCS?), after I export the help system to Word, all tables are set to have the text wrap around them (Table Properties | Table | Text wrapping | Around). Before, this setting always defaulted to no wrapping. I wouldn't mind this, because I could simply set the tables to have no wrapping, but even after I do so, the full functionality of tables is still not available to me. For example, I can't set to header row to repeat across pages (Layout ribbon | Repeat Header Rows). I also can't set rows to not break across pages (Table Properties | Row | Allow to break across pages). In fact, I can't select a single row of the table generally without selecting the entire table. My coworker found out that you can copy each table into Word Pad and then copy it back into Word as a workaround, but that is extremely tedious. We already waste a lot of time reformatting these documents for various other reasons.
As a (probably irrelevant) footnote, I convert to .doc rather than .docx, because RoboHelp crashes when I export to .doc. I then save the .doc as a .docx file to conserve file size. The same problem exists in both file formats.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Hi, Peter. Thank you for your thoughtful response.
Yes, after exporting to Word, I couldn't set the tables' heading rows to repeat and couldn't select individual rows. Also, if I selected the entire table, normally Word would offer me the option to convert the table to text. However, Word seems to think that the table isn't a table, so instead it offers me the option to convert the text to a table. Good times. :-)
I write the above in the past tense, however, because I discovered a solution. I found a table in the Word output that didn't have the problem, possibly the only one of its kind in the project. In RoboHelp, I compared the HTML source of that table to a table that did have the problem. I discovered that the problematic table had two HTML tags that the unproblematic table did not: <?rh-align_start align="left" ?> and <?rh-align_end ?>. I deleted the tags and presto! The problem was fixed for this table in the Word output. This worked for a couple of other bad tables as well, so I decided to do a global find and replace. Using Find and replace in files in RoboHelp, I replaced each of these tags with nothing (i.e., a null value, essentially deleting them). Searching for the entire string didn't detect all instances, so I searched again for "rh-align" only and found about 50 instances, which I manually corrected in the HTML source.
    So far, so good!
I didn't try the options you suggested, but I was suspecting a template problem as well. Thank God it wasn't because I wasn't relishing the prospect of tracking that down.
And yes! We tried your macros. Actually, the world-class tech writer Sue McKinney, who works with me, tried it, and she says it took three minutes to reformat the rows in the tables so they wouldn't break, which is a requirement of ours. We look forward to implementing the other table-related macro functionality you developed. Thanks for providing it for our use!

  • Performance problem with selecting records from BSEG and KONV

    Hi,
I am having performance problem while  selecting records from BSEG and KONV table. As these two tables have large amount of data , they are taking lot of time . Can anyone help me in improving the performance . Thanks in advance .
    Regards,
    Prashant

    Hi,
    Some steps to improve performance
SOME STEPS USED TO IMPROVE UR PERFORMANCE:
    1. Avoid using SELECT...ENDSELECT... construct and use SELECT ... INTO TABLE.
    2. Use WHERE clause in your SELECT statement to restrict the volume of data retrieved.
    3. Design your Query to Use as much index fields as possible from left to right in your WHERE statement
    4. Use FOR ALL ENTRIES in your SELECT statement to retrieve the matching records at one shot.
    5. Avoid using nested SELECT statement SELECT within LOOPs.
    6. Avoid using INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE. Instead use INTO TABLE.
    7. Avoid using SELECT * and Select only the required fields from the table.
    8. Avoid nested loops when working with large internal tables.
    9. Use assign instead of into in LOOPs for table types with large work areas
    10. When in doubt call transaction SE30 and use the examples and check your code
    11. Whenever using READ TABLE use BINARY SEARCH addition to speed up the search. Be sure to sort the internal table before binary search. This is a general thumb rule but typically if you are sure that the data in internal table is less than 200 entries you need not do SORT and use BINARY SEARCH since this is an overhead in performance.
    12. Use "CHECK" instead of IF/ENDIF whenever possible.
    13. Use "CASE" instead of IF/ENDIF whenever possible.
    14. Use "MOVE" with individual variable/field moves instead of "MOVE-
CORRESPONDING" creates more coding but is more effcient.

  • Hi guys. i have some problem with a link from a pdf on-line,when i click on it,the page adds a "%" at the and of the link and says "page not found" because of it

Hi guys. i have some problem with a link from a pdf on-line,when i click on it,the page adds a "%" at the and of the link and says "page not found" because of it.
This happens only when a load my pdf file on my server, because if i click on the link when the file is on my iPad, the page opens without problem.
    Any help please?
    thanx

the % sign is often used when there's a space in a name. HTML doesn't like spaces so it fills them with % or %20
try, on the end of that link, see if there's a space built into the page or the link when the page was made
On the web address you may be able to 'backspace' at the end and erase that space to get the address, but whomever made the page possibly put a mistake in the link

  • Portege P3500: It's possible to start from USB-stick?

Is it possible to start from usb-stick? i have tried to make a bootable usb-stick , and it really worked on my pc at home , but not on the laptop ..bios settings are ok , as far i know (usb-fdd legacy enable , first boot device fdd)
    where is the problem ?

Try to update bios. Even though it has that option does not mean that it will. Make sure in BIOS that legacy emulation is enabled as well. Then connect your USB and turn on the computer. Go into bios and check to see if your USB keystick is located under boot devices, which it should be. Other then that, you might have installed the boot program wrong. CD's etc have a boot.ini file. Basically an ini means initiate. So boot.ini initiates boot process. If this is configured wrong, or doesnt exist on the boot device you are using, it will not boot from the device even if configured in BIOS.

  • Digital Noise Problem on AA 1.5

    Adobe Audition 1.5
Lately I have noticed that just by opening a track within Adobe Audition, that process "creates" or embeds digital noise within the song.
I have tested this problem a few times by listening to the song before opening it within Audition. Beforehand, the song plays without digital noise, and after it has been opened within Audition, the noise appears. This digital noise is hard to describe, it's short in length of time, about 1-2 seconds, and will appear at least once within whatever song is being tested.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Audition to see if this would solve the problem, but to my surprise, the exact same digital noise problem remained within the reinstalled version of program. In the past, AA 1.5 has worked okay without this problem.
It's also worth noting that when I reinstalled the program, I successfully entered my program key, and I am "not" running the program in demonstration mode.
I am planning on upgrading to Adobe Audition 3, but the upgrade uses a previous version as a platform on which to upgrade to version 3.
The concern is that this digital noise will "survive" in version 3 of the program.
Thanks for any tips or ways to eliminate the digital noise (besides reinstalling the program), even within Adobe Audition 1.5 for the time being.

The brief digital noise "replaces" or interrupts the song and does not mix together with it.
I have been saving the songs in .wav format.
I operate AA in virtual mode on Windows XP within a Mac computer, and now I have also discovered the same
digital noise on another sound program within a song on the Mac side.
I appreciate that this isn't a Mac forum, but I found a bulletin from Apple about noise issues with my current G5 computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2033?viewlocale=en_US
Perhaps this is good timing as I am preparing to buy a new Mac Pro, and this one has an Intel processor so I'll be
able to run Windows and Adobe Audition natively.
Thanks to all for the insightful comments and help.
