Noise similar to plugging in devices on my MBP

What is causing this, it sounds identical to plugging in devices on Vista or 7. In the background I have messenger for mac, and entourage running in the back ground and finder obviously. This can happen randomly 3 or f times in a row or every half hour.

as a guess, background applications produce some sort of notification sound,
maybe check configuration options for Messanger and Entourage

This isn't a known issue with the device so I am surprised that you are having these issues. When you first noticed the issue, was anything else done on the device at that time? Any new apps added, etc? Let's try to put the phone into Safe Mode and test. If it works while in Safe Mode, we will know it could be a 3rd party app causing the static. It sounds like you are unable to see your iPod Touch screen, as it stays black but it makes the connection tone when you plug in the USB cable. Use these steps to resolve the issue with the iPod from the following article:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.

Everytime there is a new update for itunes or any of us try to plug our devices into the computer to hook up to itunes we all have problems or it won't let us!...It's getting to the point that we don't want to continue spending hundreds of dollars on Apple products that keep giving us problems. How can this problem be fixed???!!!

What is the problem? We cant help if you dont tell us what the problem is.
Do you get an error message? Do you plug the devices in and nothing happens? Is content not syncing?

You did install the latest iTunes (10.5) right? If the problem was that iTunes does not see the iPod try:

I updated an I tune app on my Iphone. My pnone is now stuck with an I tune logo with an arrow and a picture of a plug in device. I cannot access my pnone now.

Had the same problem. I initially reinstalled iTunes without removing the older files. Finally, I removed itunes, apple application support, apple mobile device support and apple software update. Downloaded a fresh iTunes instal file from the iTunes site. Everything is fine now.

- See if placing the iPod in Recovery mode will allow a restore.
- If not successful and you can't turn the iPod fully off (that is required to place in recovery mode), then let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try the reset, restore again

Arch hangs when plugging usb devices

hi.i'm using arch x86_64 with gnome 3.
when i plug an usb device to my laptop arch hangs and all of devices stop working ( mouse keyboard ...).
i already had this problem and i had fixed it by -Syu.but this time it does not fix.
i'm using kernel 2.6.39 (latest)
in gdm (before logging in to gnome 3 enviroment) plugging usb devices does not occure this problem.
this problem usually happen when i install reinstall or update a package with pacman.
please help to fix this problem!

ok.i discovered the problem.i was using asus-switcheroo for turning off my discrete graphic card (nvidia Optimus which dows not work on linux) and when i disabled asus-switcheroo this problem solved.
but what can i do about turning off discrete graphic?
in this situation i can't use that graphic card but it uses power.

Why are my purchases made on one device showing up as "waiting" to download on my other devices, until I plug those devices into a power supply?

Any time I make a purchase on one device, say my Mac Book, the items show as "waiting" in the downloads area of my iPad and iPhone. Once I plug those devices in to a power supply, they begin to download.
note that automatic downloads in all format types are turned on on all devices.
Any ideas on if there's a power setting that I can change somewhere to make it NOT a requirement that my devices be plugged in to automatically download?? I know you are all shocked to hear this, but I did not have this problem prior to iOS 8. (Both my iPad and iPhone have 8.1)

The iPod has to be powered on, and it has to have a live wifi connection. If it is not showing up it may be powered off, the battery may have died, it may be in sleep mode (the wifi radio is off in sleep mode when running on the battery), or it may not be in range of any known wifi networks.
Also, since the tracking feature is a function of iCloud account credentials, if the device has been reset as new, then your daughters iCloud account and its settings will have been erased. In that case, the device will never show up again.
If the device did not have a passcode lock and/or account restrictions enabled on it, then anyone finding it could also go into the iCloud account settings and disable the "find my iPod" setting.

Plase help :( Imac trash noise. It makes noises similar to trashing a file.

I have a 20" imac w/ 1.8 processor and a gig of ram.
My imac keeps making this noise, similar to trashing a file, but the sound is continuous and DOES NOT stop unless I reboot. And most of the time, when i reboot during that time, it wont recognize the harddrive. Itll restart with a folder with a blinking question mark.
if i dont reboot, sooner or later, the system will crash.
the sound is NOT the fan. Nor is it a sound that suggest that the hardrive is spinning. it LITERRALLY sounds like the trash sound, but continuous and will not stop. Ive never seen anything like this. Please help

I suggest you boot from the Additional Software disk that came with your iMac and run Hardware Test. It should tell you if there is anything wrong. When you run the test, your fans will ramp up to warp speed, but that's normal. Before you do that, make sure that you back up the contents of your drive to an external disk.
