Noise when burning.

Lately my iMac makes a disturbing and louder noise for a few seconds sometimes when burning DVDs, I've tried different brands of DVDs. Is it normal? There is something for avoiding a serious damage?
Thank you.

It's hard to say without actually hearing the sound but it may be normal. The drive will make some noise while reading/writing to a disk and the sound will change depending on the rpm of the disk. What I do know is any disks that have labels or stickers on it will tend to be much louder because the label makes the disk out of balance.

  • Superdrive makes horrible noise when burning

My Super drive makes this horrible noise when burning cd's or dvd's. Its like a vibration w/ loud noise.. Sometimes when I play dvd, i can hear this noise a little bit as well. Now I've only started hearing this noise once I started ripping dvd w/ a dvd rip program... I dont know if this can be the cause of this noise, does anyone have any advise on how to solve this problem. now I am afraid of burning any cd's, dvd's because I do not want to cause any damage to the computer itself.. Help.....

    Hello Muntasir
Maybe try a different brand, the superdrives are very picky about media. I normaly buy only Memorex, Maxell, Sony DVD's and Sony or Fujifilm CDs for the cars CD players. I just think your better off buying them in the 5 packs untill you find out which one's the drive likes.

  • Loud Noise when burning CD?

My pro was purchased in January 2010, and I am wondering if it is normal to have a very loud noise while burning a cd? I just don't remember such a loud noise - humming/vibration type of sound before.
    Thanks for any feedback

It's probably a media problem. I had a 100 pack of Verbatim CD's that vibrated and made a loud noise in mine. Like it was out of balance. They worked fine in other burners.
If another brand does the same thing, then I'd be concerned.

  • Superdrive Making Awful Noises When Burning

When I burn a CD through iTunes, it makes an awful buzzing sound that vibrates the whole computer. A few discs in particular also sound like they are scraping something after they are inserted. I have also found a couple of minor scratches on some discs after burning or importing.
I hope this is not normal!!

    Hello Betterlead,
It is most certainly NOT normal. If the MacBook is still in its warranty - Take it back for checks.

  • Loud noise when burning CD and will not burn DVD

I bought an iMac a week ago and have been trying to burn DVDs - from finder, toast, popcorn and i have tried different brand DVDs and +R & -R all to no avail. i get a error message everytime.
I can burn CDs, but it makes a really loud whirring sound (i mean unhealthy loud) throughout the whole burn process and then for a few minutes afterwards.
Has anyone else experienced these problems? It doesn't sound normal.

  • When burning cd,noise n vibration occurs now?

Is it ready for replacement and can the burner be ordered n replaced at residence with a guide? Have burned about 400 cd"s thus far

If you hear a vibration noise when reading or writing then you may have out of balance CD's or DVD's. I recommend try a different brand of CD or DVD before assuming that you need to replace your optical drive.

  • G5 quad buffer underrun error when burning dvd's

    4 x 2.5 Ghz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)
i just tried to burn a dvd from dvdsp and keep getting a error. it is
    Sense Key=ILLEGAL REQUEST
    Sense Code = 0x21,0x02
    Buffer Underrun
i tried using toast as well with the same result. my dvd drive is also making a lot of noise when it trys to burn. i was able to burn a dvd (data files) using the finder and the dvd burner doesn't make the same noise. i've seen this problem in other discussions and still don't have a sense of what is causing this. some have mentioned bad media, but why would the dvd burner work through the finder and not through dvdsp? or toast?
could this be a software bug or bad hardware?
    any help would be appreciated.

There is a work around. In DVD Pro, "format" with the output device set to disc and the format to ".img". When this is finished, open Disk Utility and "convert" the .img file to a CD/DVD master (.cdr). This file can then be used to burn to a blank DVD. If you click the options arrow in the burn dialog before beginning the burn, you can select a speed other than "maximum". Not elegant, but it works. My HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4165B DVD drive only succeeds at burning at its maximum rate about 1/3 of the time. However, at 12X it has been quite reliable.

  • When burning my pictures to CD, a burn failed, medium write error came up.

When burning my pictures from IPhoto to a CD, a burn failed, medium write error showed up,

Like many other suggestions I found, I went ahead and purchased a lens cleaner. The CD instructions said to insert and play track 2, but my drive would just keep ejecting the CD. But it worked! That and a little compressed air.
Before using the lens cleaner and compressed air, my drive would constantly give me a medium write error and always make loud vibrating noises that sounded like my drive was about to explode. But now it writes like a charm and is completely silent!

  • Is there a way to Change the Writing Speed When Burning CD-R's?

Is there a way to change the writing speed when burning CD-R's?
I don't see any options in Disk Utility.

P.S. Since I am burning coasters lately with the Pioneer DVR-111D, I though that I might solve the problem by using a lower write speed.

I dn't believe so with Disk Utility although you can with Roxio Toast Titanium. I would try another media brand, like Verbatim, as a first step and see if the coaster problem goes away.

How can I improve quality of image when burning a movie to a DVD?

What resolution are you using?  If the DVD is to be playable on an ordinary DVD player, only ordinary TV resolution is supported.  You need Blue ray for HD.

  • My iPod touch isn't recognised in iTunes. Nothing comes up in devices. There's no noise when the ipod is connected to my mac with a usb lead.

I have been trying to connect an ipod touch 3rd gen to my mac. It doesn't seem to be recognised in itunes. There's nothing under "devices" nor a noise when it's connected to the mac to indicate it's recognised. Any suggestions?

  • Error when burning DVD - no plugin DLLS

When burning a DVD I get an error message that says Plugin Coder error : no plugin DLLS.  Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

    They do but aren't cheap.
    Look at SuperMediaStore.
You might be able to find them cheaper. I was just checking to see if they make them.

  • Hardware Error when burning DVD's

I keep getting an error message when burning DVD's using Toast Titanium on my iMac..it reads:
"Drive Reported an error, Sense key = hardware error, sense code = 0 x 03."
Twice after getting that message I couldn't continue to burn and it stopped, once it did continue to burn and finished successfully. Any ideas, anyone?
    17" iMac G5 w/ iSight   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   upgraded to 1GB RAM

I get the same message today when burning from Toast 7.02 on my iMac. It happened when I was trying to make an audio CD from my iTunes collection (not when Copying from CD to CD). The exact message I got in the middle of my burn was:
    The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = hardware Error
    Sense Code = 0x03, 0x01
I tryed again with another CD and got the same thing. I never had a problem with these CD's (TDK CD-R up to 48x).
I wonder if there has to be some sort of software upgrade fro Roxio Toast or is this a superdrive malfunction/etc. My Superdrive gets very loud during this burn as well. I may take it in to Apple Genius Bar. Any ideas?
