Noise when opening the screen in MacBook Pro 17 Unibody

Hello, I am noticing that when opening the screen, the hinge does like a noise.
He is similar to, clack! It does right when being in the form of L, upwards and downwards.
Some idea that it can be?
Thanks

I had the same problem with my Macbook Pro as well, what I did was that i opened the screen as far as it could go and kept there for a few seconds, and when I closed and reopened the screen it never did it again, never made the that clicking noise again. Try it out and see if it works for you. Take care and best of luck

How can I access files from a flash drive that were previously saved using a Windows computer? When I attempt to open the file on MacBook Pro, it is asking to "convert file to"; none of the options I choose work. I also have Microsoft Office (with Word) installed on the Mac as well.

Format the external drive as FAT32 or ExFAT. Both computers will then be able to read and write to it.

Thanks for the suggestion, the next step was to call Apple, who gave me a claim number, which I discovered you must have to get anything done with them.  They refered me to a Apple store or repair center, after some reseach took it to the Computer Store in Mobile, Alabama and they were excellent.  They took pictures of the screen with bug submitted it to Apple who denied the claim but they kept kicking it up to the next level and finally Apple agreed to sent new cover.  The Computer Store had the cover the next day, they changed it out and now I am bug free.  If your in the area of Mobile Alabama you can feel good about getting help from the Computer Store.  For the two folks that responded to my note, Thank You, good comments and good advice.

  • Loud noise when loading cd/dvd in macbook pro

When I load or eject a CD/DVD, the drive is very noisy! it does some clicking sounds and you can feel that too. i'm worried that it might break down right after a year and a month...
while in use, it's quiet and it's working fine all the time. loadind and ejecting also work fine, except the noise.
i bought my macbook pro about half a year ago.
does anyone else have such a noisy drive??

I just received my third MBP (other two has screen issues). This one has a very noisy drive. It pops/click when loading a disc. The drive also makes two short sounds at boot-up, even when there is not a disc in the drive. These are not "normal" sounds as the previous two had quiet drives, no pops or clicks when inserting a disc and no sounds at startup.
I will get a full refund on this junker and try it again.

  • The pages become too big for the screen on Macbook pro

    Hello,
Yesterday I was watching a movie on amazon.com using my Macbook Pro (retina display if it helps). I connected it to my TV via HDMI and put it on full screen. After the movie I was too lazy to tidy up and went to sleep. This morning, when I opened it, on the 'safari' ( I don't know if its the same name in english because my computer is in french) and battle.net have 1/3 of the page is outside the borders of it horizontally and vertically. I also feel that everything is bigger. I tried restarting it or closing the pages and opening them again but it doesn't work. Please help    me because I use my laptop for everything I do and I need it as soon as possible. Please excuse any spelling mistakes.

Sorry I found what the problem was but I can only explain in french, you have to go to 'preferences system' then to 'Moniteurs' and click on 'Optimal (retina).

  • Error message when opening LR5 on my MacBook Pro.

I have successfully installed LR5 on my iMac but for some reason it is not installing properly on my MacBook Pro laptop!!  I have now tried installing this software three times.  This is the message that appears in a grey box whenever I try to open LR5:
"An error occurred when attempting to change modules."
When I click on the OK button, another window opens telling me that "New software for LR is available and Statement 5.3 appears ... ".
There are three buttons at the bottom of the window and whichever one I choose, nothing happens.  I would appreciate some help with this please?

    Try the options here: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/error-changing-modules-lightroom.html
You can also d'load the Lr5.3 version as a trial from here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_lightroom&loc=en_gb
and install that over your Lr5.0 install.

  • Changing the screen ? Macbook pro 2006/2008

    Hi all !
I need to buy a new mac laptop, but infortunately, I can't use the LED screens (yes, I know, it's a pity - it gives me serious headaches, and no one computer builder seems to take these kinds of problem in consideration), so I can "only" think about the last generation of macs laptops without LED-backlight screens, the Macbook pro 2006/early 2007.
But I was wondering something : if I can find a later one, before the unibody generation, like the 2008 one, 15", (with a LED-baclight), and find a Macbook pro 2006 non-LED-backlight screen, 15", will it be possible to change the LED screen to the non one, and so giving to the 2008 computer a non-led technology, or will it be some incompatibilities at some points ?
    Thank you for your answer,
    Rergards,
    T.

Thank you for your answer, but yes, I did. And even if it's not soooo fast on a anti-glare LED one, the headache come anyway after a while.
I also have used special calibration software for this kind of problem (the one with sunglasses icon). Honestly, it gives me maybe half an hour more of work before headache. But a 3 days migraina (or migraine, too late to know the right writing) for 1h30 of work on a LED-screen is not something I can handle every day.
The fact is that I have to work also at other places than home, or wandering ones. So, that's why I wonder if it's possible to change displays, and ask the wonderful Apple community. :-)
    Thank you for your answer,
    T.

  • Problems to project the screen from macbook pro

When I connect the proyector, via VGA cable, I can't proyect the screen!!!

Your Mac should recognize the projected as another display which you can manage via System Preferences -> Displays.
You might need to click the 'Detect Displays' button if it doesn't auto-detect the projector.
Once identified, you can either run the projector as an extended desktop, or as a mirror of the internal display. If you choose to mirror your screen (again, through System Preferences -> Display) then both screens will show the same image. If you choose to extend your desktop then the projector's screen will just display your desktop pattern, and you can drag windows from your main screen onto the projected display.
Without more detail it's hard to know which part of this isn't working for you.

  • When will the new 12" Macbook Pro / Powerbook arrive?

    Hi everyone,
Well, it seems that I have finally decided to get an Apple. Tough decision...I'm hoping it won't be a hard transition.
I was looking at the Powerbook G4 12". However, the new Macbook just arrived, and I'm worried the 12" is not too far behind.
When do you think it will arrive?
Is it worth waiting for, regardless of timing?
Also, are there any websites or books, etc, that facilitate the transition to Mac from a Windows environment?
    Thanks !!

    You're welcome cutnedge!
Yeah, it does takes a lil' time for the conversion. So much so that i'm used to this baby of mine and i had a lil' confusion when i used other Windows laptop. Weird huh..?
It's good that you'll wait for the revise version. Well, i have no idea if they are coming up with Macbook in smaller inch which i doubt. If yes, that might not be this soon (as in this year but maybe next or later)
Before this, i was cracking my head between PB 12" and iBook 12". Finally, i have a deep thought and decided PB is the one for me. Then again, being indecisive about the size of it (12" or 15"?). And because the outlook is the next i'm concern after performance and storage wise; i chose PB 12" as both the size works the same functions, however the price of this two size differs in 2grand. The thing is, i'm happy with my PB 12" and am lovin' it each day. So, do a survey and make a wise choice before hand okay..
    G'day =)

  • When will the new Retina Macbook Pro be available in stores?

I thought that it should be released tomorrow since it's available today online, but I was mistaken. You think Apple would have their stock built up in stores for release the next day. Does anyone know when it will be available? The store rep. near me said 2-3 weeks and I don't want to believe it could be that long. Any thoughts?

I went to the Apple Store today and talked to the manager.  He said he does not know, because the only indication of when is WHEN it arrives.  Could be tomorrow (unlikely).  Could be ten days.  I tend to believe him because he has been right in the past.  Just ask the store roughly when deliveries are made each day. Then call around that time.

  • Just downloaded Ps 2014. When opened the screen panels are all in a font of about 2.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled. I have changed the font in the interface but nothing changes. Restarted.
I had Ps 2012 with Elements. I don't see Elements as part of the 2014 version. Did not upgrade. The difference in downloads is on the 2012 version I had purchased then downloaded. For the 2014 I joined the Creative Cloud. Not sure why that would make a difference but giving as much info as I can.
I'm also working on a brand new computer. Lenovo Yoga Pro 3. 8GB, 512, Windows 8.1.
    Please help.

To get the new UI you need to hide the menu bar. To do that in the View menu select Toolbars, then click on the "Menu Bar" entry.
If you need access to the menus you can press either Alt or F10 to temporarily display them.

  • Not able to run installer when booting (Snow)Leopard on MacBook Pro Unibody

    Hi all.
I would very much appreciate any help with this issue...
I have recently installed an app called monolingual(stay away from it - don't touch it with a stick) - I thought I'd get a couple of GBs off my HDD by deleting the surplus languages... Unfortunately this resulted in other apps behaving strangely and rendered them unusable. I thought this would subside, if I'd reboot the machine. Unfortunately what I found, when i did so, was a blank default MacOs wallpaper(the one with the universe) and nothing else - not even a login prompt... Long story short - I have tried many things in single user mode - booting in verbose mode, to see what's up(nothing out of the ordinary) - booting in safe mode(didn't change a thing), and of course trying to restore my HDD from Time Machine - God bless time machine... Unfortunately in order to do that - I need the MacOs installer(which can't be reached) - I have tried to boot from DVD, while holding the C key, the option key - then choosing the DVD as the bootable device of choice, I've tried to install it remotely from my brother's macbook via ethernet - nothing worked. Also I have attempted the PRAM NVRAM reset as well as the SMC... I have tried all these things with both OsX Leopard and Snow Leopard... Nothing at all worked. To make matters worse, I am worried about my hard disk, as the only way I can shut my machine down is by holding down the power button, until it turns off(keyboard shortcuts don't work, and there are no menus or anything available) - that can't be good for HDD. As far as booting from my superdrive goes - the DVD seems to be booting{I can hear it working and see the progress (the dots and the drivers loading) in verbose mode}, however at some point it just reboots the laptop with no warning or message, and the whole ordeal repeats. I am desperate and running our of options... could someone please, please, please help? Any clue or tip would be greatly appreciated and will most likely spare me a nervous breakdown.
Am I completely screwed, or just a little? Can this be fixed? For the record, I have no Apple Care, and my 1-year warranty had expired in November. Any suggestions?
Thanks up-front to any kind soul with an answer or just kind words.
    Sincerely,
    Piotr.

Re-partitioning a drive without losing data is a very difficult task. The data on the TM drive are, at this point, irreplaceable.
It has been safe and a very common practice on a Mac to be able to add, remove and resize partitions for years. Apple supports it well with Disk Utility, and even for Bootcamp.
Time Machine is just a file/folder on a partition, even if it's only on one partition. The Time Machine drive itself is not special in any way other than it has been set up to work on a Mac with the proper partition scheme and format.
I was just suggesting a way to use the OP's mentioned hardware to perform some sort of test that would prove something, in order to know which step to recommend next. If Disk Utility says it can not create a new partition at the end of a drive, then there are fragments of data in the area and Disk Utility will refuse to resize the first partition to be slightly smaller. The OP can also go buy another drive for the experiment, and also use his brother's drive like *R C-R* mentioned. He can even buy a large USB thumb drive but I don't think he needs to buy anything for a 'test'.
It is also very common for users to create new separate partitions on an existing TM drive for other machines to use. In fact, this is the preferred storage method when sharing TM with different machines because a partition can be easily removed without disturbing adjacent TM backups, it provides for a way to control the size of each machine's TM backup, and because it's much faster to replace a partition instead of trying to delete a TM backup with Finder. These are accepted practices we've learned the hard way.
Going the other way, I routinely set up external 1TB drives for two partitions. The first 750GB partition is for TM, and the second is for a SuperDuper bootable clone. As requirements or user preference for TM or SuperDuper may increase due to larger boot drives or for whatever reason, the second partition can easily be deleted, and the first partition can be safely enlarged, with no data loss.
Now in the case of a drive that is over 85% full or was ever that full, there is a high probability that the second partition can not be created due to files getting copied to the end of the drive. Disk Utility will refuse to change a drive like this.
