Noisy fan and laptop heats up

Hi,
I have a problem with my laptop.  It's a G60-249CA model.  Each time I turn on my laptop, the left part of the laptop starts to get warmer and I can hear the fan noise getting louder.  The sound gets even louder when I use a site that uses alot of graphics and the laptop gets warmer and then my laptop will flash a black screen and shut off.
Is there a way to fix the solution ? The warranty does not work anymore.  I have thought of taking off the back of the laptop to clean the fan up or to get a new fan and replace the current noisy fan.
Are there any other solutions ? Please advise me.
And also, when I turn my computer on, I have to tilt my screen to a 45 degree angle to see that windows is running.
Is there anything wrong because if I turn my screen to any other angle, all  I see is a black screen.
Kindly advise, thank you

Hello Kelli68.
Have you tried updating your BIOS?  Here is a link to the latest BIOS.
Also, if you want to try replacing the fan you can get the part number from the manual which Huffer posted above.  The parts should be available for purchase on the HP Parts Surfer site.
Have a lovely day.

  • Extremely noisy fan and burning motherboard

Hi, I got HP dv5 2070us laptop a couple years ago and decided to dust out the fans and stuff. So I brought my laptop to the computer service office to clean it.
After the clean up, my fan got even louder than before! Roaring like crazy.
So I tried to figure out what was wrong with it. Downloaded some software like Speedfan and Aida64 to check out the temperatures of the CPU, motherboard and so on. Both mentioned programs shows that my motherboard is 87C (189F) ! and this temperature is fixed, doesn't change all day long, while the CPU temperatures are changing.
Maybe this is the reason of the noisy fan. What is more, computer doesn't shut down. The screen is black but fans are working even after 10mins. The only way for a completely shut it down is to press the power button.
Does anyone one how to solve this problem?

    Hello Merc,
Try figuring out what's causing the noise.
Is it a vibration? Try a mechanic's stethoscope if you can find one; or just use a thin, long bladed screwdriver to amplify the noise. Cleaning the fan blades of accumulated crud will improve their balance. Occasionally, sheet metal or a loose screw will pick up the vibration and amplify it.
Is it a bearing or bush that's starting to wear? Maybe it's new fan time - nothing is forever!
Is it the rush of air? They make quieter fans, although the quiet ones don't always cool as well. (I have a dual 800MHz Quicksilver that was fitted with a quiet fan, and you could have grilled bacon on the heatsink - I wound up with a high-powered fan that I can hear in the next room.... but a cool Mac!)
Try measuring your fan (in mm) and searching for fans; I don't remember my exact parametres, but I turned up quite a few. Compare using RPMs, dBs, and CFM as guides. Come back and make us all experts!

  • Newbie having problems with noisy fan and high CPU usage in Activity Monitor

I am new to the world of Apple and have got my hands on a hand-me-down PowerBook G4 version 10.4.11. It works fairly well for everything but the Internet.
One of the first symptoms i noticed was that watching stuff on youtube was slow and jumped a lot. I checked a few things out and looked the CPU usage in activity monitor and this was about 80% to 100% when on youtube or even moving from page to page. I'e tried loads of stuff including repairing disk permissions, emptying caches and relaunching finder when the preferences file is on the desktop (not really sure what that was supposed to do).
The next thing I discovered was that if i disconnected the laptop from the mains and played youtube and some other applications the whole thing would go into sleep mode very quickly. I have got temperature monitor downloaded now although I already know it is getting very hot.
PS when it heats up the fan turns on because I can hear a whirring sound...
Would really appreciate some insight into this as it seems to be a good runner otherwise.
PS2 I have loads of free space left in the disk usage tab in activity monitor.
    Big thank you in advance

Welcome to the world of PowerBook!

Virtually no G4s are dealing well with web video anymore. The video technology used by modern developers puts a huge strain on a G4 processor. As this a choice made by coders, there is not much you can do about it. Some people suggest adding RAM but the effect is marginal considering it's the processor that's taxed.
Notebooks get hot. The fans in my 1Ghz 17-inch PowerBook from 2003 kick in between 130 and 140°F. The danger point is not until in the vicinity of 100F so don't sweat it to much. Make sure you do not cover the case bottom by setting the computer on a thick cloth placemat, pillow or other bedding item, or on your lap without a lapboard. The bootom of the case is part of the heat dissipation system and needs air under it to work
A lot of PowerBooks have, by now, lost some or all of their "feet" that gve a little space under the case. Don't bother looking for official replacements--get the silicone door/drawer bumpers from the hardware store that stick on. I found some about 3/16" thick that let more air under my PB thatn the mostly missing originals.

Your battery is likely dead from old age. Batteries only last about 2-3 years. You are seeing a sign of the battery lacking sufficient remaining capacity to run the computer. Get this utility:
    http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/
(you'll need the 2.6.6 version for Tiger) and post what is says about "Health" and "Cycles."

  • Noisy fan and overheating when few applications running!!

    Hi
I'm having a problem with my fan on my macbook which is consistently on even though i'm not running that many applications or have just started up the computer. It also causes the bottom of my laptop to be particulary hot.
Is there anyway i can fix this or do i need to get a new fan. I got it checked about a year ago because its been happening a while but apple didnt seem to think there was anything wrong? But there definitely is a problem somewhere.
Any info would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Well technically all the HP stuff is optional. The computer will run fine and maybe even better without it. When I get a new laptop I always format it and load the operating system myself. Most recent HP models even have that option in the recovery (F11) routine...you have the option of installing OS only. You can also just run a free program called pc decrapifier (I kid you not) and remove anything with "HP" at the beginning.

  • MacBook Pro (Mid-2010) - Loud Fans and Extreme Heat

    Hi all,
When just playing simple Youtube videos or facebook games, my fans spin at high RPM and are very loud and the underside gets extremely hot (CPU > 80 deg. Celsius). Running OSX 10.8.5. What may be the issue here? It has only starting becoming apparent recently.
Thanks in advance! Im not sure what other information to include right now.

This is with a youtube video playing.
Hope this works, I appreciate the help!

  • My Macbook Pro has a noisy fan and shuts off from time to time

Every once in awhile while using my new 2011 15" Macbook Pro (which I purchased in August) the fans will start running really loud. I usully dont even do things that require a lot of power such as working on Office docs and surfing the web. Sometimes it gets so bad that the computer just shuts off. Then when I turn it back on it wont boot up for a few minutes. I've already taken it to the Genius Bar twice and they were unable to replicate my problem so they would not replace it. Is there any quick fixes for this issue?

this sounds like its overheating. when it does this can you tell what graphics processor is in operation, you can do that by either using gfxCardStatus (a app that sits in the menu bar that tells you which gpu is in operation) or by going into the more info section of About This Mac and under display it should say which processor is in use at that time, either the AMD discrete GPU or the Intel Integrated one

  • Hot GPU diode and noisy fan - 3600rpm

After an hour my iMAC's GPU diode is running at 88° and the CPU fan is noisy at 3600rpm. I have taken it to an Apple certified reseller and they couldn't find anything wrong. Can anyone help suggest a reason why it is running hot and noisy?

Hello davemo73 I have the right the same problem, I have taken to an Apple certified support and they told me that is everything all right with my iMac, when I arrived in my home an surprise! the same issue... noisy fan and rpms too fast. Im really worried about, I dont wanna to change the logical board (60% of imac, too much expensive in my country, like a $1100,00 half cost of new machine.).
Can someone from Apple help us? PLS I'm going crazy!!!

  • G60-445DX Overheat and very noisy fan

Hi , this is not new my laptop overheats and has noisy fan. My question is how can I get to speak with the support team after my warranty is finished ?

Why you are in this situation is sort of an existential question I cannot answer. You can try calling HP and see if they will make an exception but the few times I have seen that happen the warranty was up by a few weeks at most. We here at this Forum do not work for HP. We can help you fix the laptop by linking you to information, manuals, parts sources, etc. but we cannot make HP do anything. You are really challenging the concept of a limited warranty and I think that issue is not even worth debating. You can also try a simple fix. Hold a paperclip in the fan grille to stop the blades from spinning. Blast in the strongest stream of air you can find. Maybe the fan is just clogged.

  • Heat, fans, and noise.

These are still issues with my iMac G5 I bought a little over a year ago. It is particularly noticeable when playing games, such as WarCraft or Call of Duty online. It is loud enough that it troubles me that it may damage my machine over time. When I quit a game, the fans get much quieter and the heat seems to go down too. The fans are not a problem most of the time, but launch a game and the fans rev up.
Note that I have a rev. 2 iMac G5, not the first revision that is supposed to be the one with the real problem.

"It is loud enough that it troubles me that it may damage my machine over time."
It won't, as it's designed to do just what it's doing. You might want to inspect inside the back and see if you have any dust or pet hair that needs reduction, which might lower the operating temperature and reduce the burden on the cooling system. Some find it building up in their iMacs, but many do not find anything when they look.

  • G6 1c58ca laptop want to replace cooling fan and copper part

i have probelm with cooling fan being really loud and making way too much vibration that actually numbs my hands while using wireless keyboard on same desk. so, i have taken apart the laptop to clean the cooling fan area with compressed air, and assembled it again, and ran the laptop.
a littble improvement but still same problem.
so i came to comclusion that the hardware part itself is the problem and i want to replace it.
so my question is where can i find or buy the cooling fan and copper colored line that is connected to cooling fan?

looked at amazon but they only had coolingfan part not the copper colored line.

  • Portg Z30-B-117 noisy fan

    Hi,
I have a problem with my new notebook Portg Z30-B-117,
It has realy noisy fan, I was forced to use baterry saving mode, without that I can not work on this machine.
The fan speed is absurdly designed.
It has much more speed even when it does not heat up.
Please make a new bios with clever fan speed, then it will be the best notebook on the market!
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, I bought Portg Z30-B-119 a few days ago and I agree this would*be the best laptop/ultrabook on the market, if not for two annoying problems that can easily be fixed by Toshiba.
    1/
The fan indeed turns on and off very often, and really unnecessarily. It is not related to running any highly demanding process. It is enough to watch a video clip on youtube for 2 minutes and the fan turns on for few seconds, and then switches off because the laptop cools down enough. Then after another minute the temperature rises again so the fan is on again, and so on, back and fourth. This is quite annoying. This happens also when you just read something, just less often. And I know why this happens. Here is the explanation.
This is simply because of a very bad choice of Toshiba.* I used a tool that monitors the temperature of the cpu core (under Linux) and I saw that the fan is turned on already at 49 degrees Celsius (the core temperature, not the laptop case! The laptop is really cool outside when the cpu has 49 degrees inside!)*
How stupid is that! This laptop has i5-5200U installed so the maximum cpu core temperature is 100 degrees, so why not turning it on at 65 or 70?* On my Dell laptop, the fan is switched on at 65 degrees even though it is a lot less noisy than on Toshiba.
I use "balanced" mode for cooling, so the fan is less noisy than in "high performance" mode but it is still much more audible than on my Dell laptop.
The "power saving" mode is useless, because when the laptop reaches 48 deg the cpu frequency goes down to 400 MHz permanently (yes, because it will never cool off without the fan) and the laptop is useless at 400 MHz.
    2/
The battery charging. The battery lifetime will be very bad on Tosbiba Z30. This is because the laptop charges the battery every time you plug in the power supply even if you used your laptop on battery for two minutes and it still shows 100%. Moreover this cannot be switch it off. I measured it simply by monitoring the current when switching the power cord with the laptop switched off so this is a fact not just a hypothesis.
On my old Dell laptop, the battery will never start charging until it goes below 90%. On my friend's Lenovo there is even an option in the Bios so he can decide to charge the battery only when it is below 70%.
It is a well-known fact, that the battery life is much shorter if you keep charging it when it is nearly full.
On my Dell laptop, I can even disable charging the battery completely using Fn+F2. So I can decide myself when to switch in on.
I do not expect Toshiba to have such a sophisticated tool, but at least they could disable charging the battery until it is discharged for example 80%.
Both problems can be easily fixed. The question is, do they care about their customers enough to do it? And how do you request such feature? Do the read the forum?
