Hi Guys
I need your help on this. My 3 months old iMac (iMac 24inch 2.8GHZ Core 2 Duo Extreme) fans started making so much noise that is unbearable. They came on suddenly (you could see the wave of air) and even though I switched off the iMac for the 24 hours, when I turned it on, they noise is still on. The iMac works fine, but the noise is very very loud. The computer is in well ventilated room, so I dont know what is happening.
I bought it from apple.com and I dont want to go through all the drama of sending it for repair if there is a quick fix.
Thank you for your time.

  • Anyone noticed noisy fans when iMac is idle on new iMac retina?

My fans seem very noisy on iMac retina compared with my macbook pro.  Anyone else noticed this?

Yes, I just got mine last week, and today, as I turned the computer on, I heard quite a loud fan noise ... which led me here searching for an answer.  It's the first time it has done this, and there's no reason for it i.e. the computer was off for the past 10hours or so.  I hope it's a "one-off" occurrence, because when I re-booted the computer, the noise is still apparent, but less than a few minutes ago.
If it persists, I will be contacting Apple Support.

  • Noisy fans on iMac after Apple replaced hard drive

My hard drive was replaced by an Apple contractor last week. Immediately after the replacement the fans started running hard while working and would wake itself from sleep mode to run. I watched the Activity monitor as someone suggested, there are no "runaways." I zapped PRAM, and SMC multiple times. No change. Finally tonight I ran the hardware test and got the error message 4SNS/1/40000000:TH00-9.000. I then went to the support community and found that this relates to the hard drive and circuitry for fan sensors. It did not do this before. I will call the person at Apple that was my contact for the replacement on Monday. Just trying to verify that I have interpreted error message correctly.

Apple has basically replaced my entire computer: 2nd new hd, new fan in the right side (ODD I believe), new logic board and CPU and it's still noisy and will not respond to the Energy Saver sleep preferences. I downloaded smcFanControl software and that indicates that ODD temp is 106F and 3415 rpm with nothing happening in the drive. I decided to work drive and imported a bunch of photos to iPhoto. ODD got a little warmer but fan speed never changed. What now? How do I get to a high level Apple repair rep. I am so annoyed by this whole thing. I should have left the hard drive alone until it died and not responded to the recall.

  • Trouble running hardware test on 07 iMac with noisy fan

    Hello
I have an 07 iMac with a noisy fan- I've tried vacuuming out dust from the back but want to avoid taking it apart if possible...
I read online I should run the hardware test, but since I am running Mavericks the Apple support advice is to run the original OS X install disc and restart (holding down D or Option+D)...
Long story short I got a replacement disc from Apple (I'd lost the original) but the iMac ejects it when I restart following the process above... could it be my bluetooth keyboard? Hopefully not since I no longer have the original hardwired one... or does anyone have any other ideas for either how to get to the hardware test... or fix the fan (without a third party app just stopping it)
    Thanks!

Try holding down the Option key to get the one time boot manager screen then select the AHT. Not sure as Apple moved it around on different install discs but it might be on the Applications discs and not the OS X discs.

  • Hot GPU diode and noisy fan - 3600rpm

After an hour my iMAC's GPU diode is running at 88° and the CPU fan is noisy at 3600rpm. I have taken it to an Apple certified reseller and they couldn't find anything wrong. Can anyone help suggest a reason why it is running hot and noisy?

Hello davemo73 I have the right the same problem, I have taken to an Apple certified support and they told me that is everything all right with my iMac, when I arrived in my home an surprise! the same issue... noisy fan and rpms too fast. Im really worried about, I dont wanna to change the logical board (60% of imac, too much expensive in my country, like a $1100,00 half cost of new machine.).
Can someone from Apple help us? PLS I'm going crazy!!!

  • Would a noisy fan be covered by the warrenty? Can the fan be turned off?

My iMac's fan has become worryingly noisey, can it be turned off, if so is that a danger?
Will it be covered by the warranty, it still presumably works, just very very noisy.

Hi, if the computer is under warranty or has AppleCare so is the fan.
You would be best served to do the SMC reset first if that fails to cure the noisy fan call AppleHelp or visit the local Genius Bar or Apple Approved Service Agent..

I would also make sure you have everything backed up..before any service work is carried out..L

  • Has a noisy fan

What has caused my iMac to develop a noisy fan. It runs at full speed now, this has just started.

this sounds like its overheating. when it does this can you tell what graphics processor is in operation, you can do that by either using gfxCardStatus (a app that sits in the menu bar that tells you which gpu is in operation) or by going into the more info section of About This Mac and under display it should say which processor is in use at that time, either the AMD discrete GPU or the Intel Integrated one

  • Noisy Fan

    MBP, 15'', 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Hello,
the right fan of my MBP is noisy. It wasn't always like that, I've been enjoying a quiet computer for 1.5 years -really-, even though this model is a warm computer... Other friends with the same model complain about their computers being warm.. hence the need of -at least- effective and reasonably quiet fans. The other day I had the impression of my MBP being warmer than before at the same circumstances,, I wonder if this is another surprise from this model
Anyhow,,, I don't think there's nothing wrong with the fan so far in terms of cooling, it's just noisy. At its peak, when watching movies or using photo Shop heavily, fans are working up to 5000rpp, that is always the case but I don't like it with an excessively noisy fan! ....my questions are:
How can I fix the noisy fan?
    Should I change it?
I don't have apple care and my guaranty is expired
    good luck!

Make sure your MBP is getting proper ventilation when in use. Read the user manual that came w/your computer on the proper usage to prevent +over heating.+

  • G710 fan dust removal, noisy fan

    Hi,

Energy Management have is nothing i find options "Dust Removal" and did not find. My fan(noisy fan) stays on constantly (temp idle 38/40/42) I bought it 2 months ago. Its problem, because my previous laptop was quietly.

  • G60-445DX Overheat and very noisy fan

Hi , this is not new my laptop overheats and has noisy fan. My question is how can I get to speak with the support team after my warranty is finished ?

Why you are in this situation is sort of an existential question I cannot answer. You can try calling HP and see if they will make an exception but the few times I have seen that happen the warranty was up by a few weeks at most. We here at this Forum do not work for HP. We can help you fix the laptop by linking you to information, manuals, parts sources, etc. but we cannot make HP do anything. You are really challenging the concept of a limited warranty and I think that issue is not even worth debating. You can also try a simple fix. Hold a paperclip in the fan grille to stop the blades from spinning. Blast in the strongest stream of air you can find. Maybe the fan is just clogged.

  • G5 Noisy fan Fix

OK, I think I may have finally found the answer to the G5 Dual fan 'ramping' fan problem.
As many G5 users are aware, excessive fan noise has been an issue for years. Here is my fix, I can't say for sure it will work for you, but it did for me.
Firstly you need to do some basic stuff, clean the dust from your mac, fans, radiator and especially the PSU, It's a pig to get out but it's worth it. Check the LCS for leaks, remove the processors and apply new thermal paste. There are lots of other things you can try (Google 'G5 Noisy fans'), I tried them all but none of them worked for me.
I decided that the 'ramping' fans must be a heat issue, so with that I mind I attached a fan from a gaming PC to the front of my G5 (see pic), and connected it to the free molex connector on the hard disk to power it. On re-start the fans ramping stopped.
OK, I know what you're thinking, I don't want that ugly fan sitting on the front of my beautiful mac! neither do I. I intend to buy a super quiet 140mm fan and install it on the inside of the the front grill to keep my mac cool, and quiet!
I hope this may help other G5 users to have a 'fan' free day!

Great work, thanks for the post!

  • Noisy Fans

I have owned my dual G4 since 2002, and its still going strong!!. I want to replace the noisy fans, so I did abit a research and came across an apple web page about apple replacing the fans for $20. The problem I have is that the offer ran out in 2003 anybody got a idea of where I can pick up some fans cheap.

Hi there! Welcome to the forums!
I am glad to hear that your machine is going strong!!! Mine is also.. the MDD's just won't die without a fight given the intel macs of today. However, back to the topic.
What kind of power supply do you have in your MDD? First off, if its the 400 watt power supply, I would suggest trying to find the 360 watt power supplies. Those are the much quieter ones that Apple sent to customers back in 2003 to relieve the noisy ones - also the pabst fan was a replacement as well.
Once you do this.. get then a PCI slot fan to help in cooling the machine down. Next step is to mount(like I did) a 120MM power fan on top of the optical drive roof and have it blow the air out towards the back - this will aid in cooling down your system DRAMATICALLY. My pabst fan is close to silent now, though I can hear it sometimes, but I also have the power to control the fan's speed as well. Sometimes to get rid of dust and foreign particles which could hurt my system, I rev the fans for awhile in HURRICANE mode. I guarentee that your MDD will love the fans. Oh, one more thing.. Put a small 60MM fan underneath the front drive bay. + GET THE COPPER HEATSINK - this will further aid in cooling the system down.
Right now my dualcpu temp is: 90 degrees fahrenheit.

  • Satellite A300: missing letters while typing fast & noisy fan

    Hi
I hope someone might be able to help me.
I have had this laptop for nearly a year and slowly this is driving me mad. I have to type very slowly and deliberately when using IE.
For some reason it doesn't seem to pick evey key stroke up. It is fine when using office apps though. It seems to possibly be linked to the fan being on constantly.
    Online games run slowly too.
I have bought an air duster can but not much came out of the fan area, so the fix that everyone keeps suggesting on here for fan issues hasn't helped, the fan is still noisy and it has taken me ages to type this.
    Please help me!
    Andrea

What plugins are you using in IE? Some plugins/toolbars can drastically affect the performance.
Have you tested it in FireFox or another browser? You can download FireFox from here: http://www.getfirefox.com
Did you install Windows yourself? Or are you using the factory Windows installation?
Maybe you are missing some drivers, for example if you have not installed the correct Graphics Drivers, Windows will run in VGA Mode (software mode), which is very slow.
Have a look in Device Manager for driver problems.
It can also be caused by installed software. Perhaps you have two Antiviruses installed? Maybe you should try backing up your data and running Recovery. That would determine if its a hardware or software problem.
A BIOS Update may also help. You can get the latest BIOS from the Toshiba website in the support section.
