I have an hp m9340f elite computer that has been making weird noises. When i opened it, i found out that the graphics card fan keeps turning off and on after the computer turns on. I bought this computer about 4 years ago so it is not under warranty. i am not sure what to do about this noise.

  • Graphics card fan vs heatsink

I am planning my new G5 purchase, but need info regarding graphics card options. I want as quiet a system as I can get. Do the GeForce 6600 and GeForce 7800 GT have a fan or a heatsink to cool them?

I have recently recieved a heads up about a manufacturer of aftermarket quiet fan for the 7800. I will be ordering a fan/heatsink from Zalman as soon as I determine for sure which one to use. They look quite easy to install and will cool better and run as quiet as the rest of the Mac does. Looks like I may lose the adjacent PCI slot with the install - that may be a deal breaker... Too bad nVIDEA doesn't contract with these folks in the first place. I still stand by my recommendation of the 7800 over the stock 6600.

  • XServe ATI Graphics Card Fan Replacement

Can anyone direct me to replacement fans for the ATI graphics card that came in the G5s? (I'm assuming this came bundled with it, I bought it used.)
What's happening is that the fan no longer operates and the video card overheats very quickly. I'm worried this will cause damage to the server itself.
    Thanks!

It's an integrated GPU, as in not in the expansion slot? if so, you'll have to call apple and beg them, my guess is they won't sell it to you, you'd have to get it from an apple store by bringing it in for repair.
if it's an expansion card call ATI

  • MacPro graphics card fan sounds like a buzz saw.

.MacPro3,1 stock ATI Radeon HD 2600.  Constant and loud.  For a couple of months would get this sound for a short period, usually when booting up, but it never persisted.  Now suddenly it is constant, though once in a great while drops in level and chugs, sounding like it's laboring.  Generally a steady whine.  Computer functions fine (HD video editing) and has through heavy use for years.  Have card in slot 1.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks

If I were in your situation, I would simply replace the card.  It's just old.
Apple Radeon 5770 is the best upgrade option if you are running Snow Leopard.  It's a much better GPU and 100% compatable.
If you must keep the 2600, then try cleaning the dust off of it.

  • Possible Graphics Card Problem, Displays Won't Turn On and GPU Fan Screams

    Hi,
I have an early 2009 (or 3,1) Mac Pro 8-core 2.8 Ghz using an 8800 GT and running the latest update of Snow Leopard. Yesterday I experienced an issue upon startup. It does chime, but the graphics card fan continues to run high until I power it off and the two displays (a Dell Ultrasharp lcd and a Studio lcd, though receiving power, will not come on.
I reset the PRAM and attempted to boot into safe mode, but neither worked. I then reseated the graphics card, and finally moved it to another slot without a resolution of the problem.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • MSI P7N SLI - PC Wont Boot - Video error code but changing graphics card no help

((Apologies, I think this should be in the forum for Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad boards))
Hi. Brief description of the issue.
Last Saturday there was fan noise. I ignored that, left the machine on, went out. By Sunday morning the machine had turned itself off. I opened it up, identified the problem as the graphics card fan, failed to fix but put the PC back on figuring I'd have to see about a new card soonish.
Later on it had turned itself off again. Got to bios with a system32 config error. I figured that was why it'd been shutting off and went through the long process of manual recovery from that. Turned the computer on, all good, played games.
Until I thought to check the GFX temp... 133 degrees Celcius. Turned it off right away, ordered replacement card - which has now arrived.
But the machine won't boot at all. I get one long tone then two short. This is the same with both the old and the new cards. Blue light comes on, all the fans come on, then the beeps.
But the 'long' isn't long like if it was a RAM issue. I'm googling AMI bios post codes and seeing 1 long + 2 short is a video error, but also that '3 beeps' is a memory problem.
I've swapped my RAM sticks around and tried each stick individually and get the same beep code.
I've reset the CMOS by holding in the button on the back for 5 seconds, with the power cable unplugged and after discharging the capacitors.
The only other suggestions I've found is that it could be a failure of the PSU to power the card. But it should be giving ample power.
Now I am stuck for ideas.

    Antec Neopower Blue Modular PSU
    Zotac 8800GT [OR Asus GTX 260 212]
    OCZ Platinum 2GB (2*1) DDR2 800
    Western Digital HDD
    LiteOn DVD Rom
    Windows XP

With a 94000GT (no power connector from PSU) the machine is now running.
But there's still a problem somewhere (and that's a pretty poor graphics card I don't want to be stuck with) so I'm still keen to find out what to do, or what's wrong.
My 650W Antec with 2 12 volt rails should have no issues powering the other cards.

  • Which graphics cards are Mac Pro 1,1 (2006) compatible?

I suspect my graphics card is bad (though I could be wrong).  At boot I hear the Apple sound but get no visuals whatsoever.  No grey or blue or any other kind of screen.  I tried resetting PRAM, holding shift, holding option, nothing works.  The computer is stuck at the phase where the graphics card fan is on overdrive and it does not ever stop spinning.  The card is an ATI Radeon that came stock with the Mac.
I found this article which shows which cards are compatible.
MY QUESTION: Are these the ONLY graphics cards my Mac Pro will support?  Or can I install any PCI-E graphics card?

  • Graphics Card and Monitor

Recently, vertical colored lines appeared on my monitor. This also occured with a second monitor. Several suggestions about the nature of the problem included the pram battery (I ordered a new one) and possibly the graphics card. My current card is a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. Two questions: 1) Is there a diagnositc piece of software that can be run to verify the status of this card? 2) If I replace the card, what replacement card will work with my Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi-
The vertical lines being produced on the monitors will be due to a heat damaged graphics card.
Cleaning the graphics card fan and heat sink, as well as replacing the thermal compound may help, but it also may be too late.
AHT can test the VRAM of the card, but if the GPU is the problem, or, if it is a different chip that is damaged, the test will be inconclusive.
There are many card options listed here:

Either used OEM or flashed, make sure to inquire as to the status of the card before you buy.

  • Graphics Card Replacement Suggestion

My current ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics card fan is making a loud noise and I need a suggestion for a compatible graphics card replacement.  I don't play video games but I do watch streaming videos from HULU, Netflix and YouTube often.  I have a dual monitor setup as well.
Current PC; HP Pavilion Elite HPE-110f running Window 7.

    Hi:
I would go with the Radeon HD 6450.
Get one of the fanless models listed. Then you have no fan to make noise or conk out on you (such as the ASUS or Sapphire cards listed at the link below).
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=-1&IsNodeId=1&Description=HD%206450&bop=...
The card has a maximum power draw of less than 30W and it is the optional card offered on HP business desktops with 240W power supplies.
Make sure you uninstall your old graphics card and driver in the device manager, shut down and unplug the PC before installing your new video card.

  • Fan noise after graphic card changed - Qosmio F10-101

Two months ago i have had my graphic card changed from nvidia fx 5700 to nvidia geforce go 6600.
from my laptop toshiba qosmio f10-101. After changing the old graphic card there is a fan noise that starts and stops every 2 minutes , that it drives me crazy every time i'm hear it.
Can somebody tell me if this noise is natural and if he/she knows if the specific card is noisy in every laptop? or If there are any ways to disappear this noise or increase in the maximum speed the noise.??

  • GT 70 missing graphic card and constant fan noise Issues

Not even sure if this is the correct place to post this thread if not could someone move it to a different section.
So today for some odd reason my laptop decided to freak out on me. I get a bluescreen saying VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE, I have GT70 NVIDIA GTX 675m I was doing a scan on my computer and the lower right hand corner it said Application has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware. So before it kept saying that over and over again. The computer basically just lagged out and I did a hard shut down to turn it off. I turned it back on and it started up to the BIOS for some unknown reason I didn't press any button so then I go over to Save & Exit and it said do you want to save the changes, I said no and it started up again to the desktop but very slowly.
Then my desktop finally shows up but now I hear what appears to be my video card fan or the fan that turns on when you are overclocking or just when you hit the fan button on the keyboard constantly running. I am freaking again myself because I don't want this laptop to die on me. My NIVIDIA card is no longer even showing up on the taskbar, even when I go to control panel I click on the NIVIDIA control panel and it doesn't even come up. So I try doing a system restore, after it restarts the video card is showing up I do a couple of restarts to get things back in order again. Even the fan is no longer blasting like before which puts me at ease.
I go to watch a YouTube video and then the video freezes then in the lower right hand corner I couldn't see what it was because it faded away something about the video card crashing so then after it crashes my fan starts to go off again and I am freaking out again. I tried to do another system restore but it seems that it's not working any more. Is my video card dying or do I need to install new drivers for it.
How come it's no longer showing up on my device manager? Did it die or something?

It has been acting very strange today. I turned it off last night and went to sleep, woke up a couple of hours later to turn it back on and it went to the desktop very slowly but my GTX 675m card showed up in the display under device manager also the fan was working normally like it usually does and not constantly going. I was sort of shaking my head not understanding how it showed up again.
So I took it into a computer repair place to see what they might make of it. Won't get any word until tomorrow or Monday to see what it might be, strange enough when they booted up the system at the computer place it booted up quickly and he told me that the GeForce Experience thing opened up and all that. But I don't really trust the laptop, I told them I would still like for them to check it to see if my GPU is really dying. They said they will run some tests to see if it's a hardware problem or software problem.
As for buying a new GPU I am not sure i want to pay that much, is there something more cheaper that might be better than 675m? I keep hearing people saying how bad the 675m is and how NVIDIA does not care much for that particular card. Also my 2 year warranty for the laptop just expired in January and I have no idea why this always happens to me once the warranty expires something wrong happens, not sure if it's a coincidence or just bad luck.
Guess I will see what happens when I get the computer back from the repair place, paid $89 dollars just for them to check it which they say is a lot better price than Geek Squad cause they would have me paying $200. Ugh! This crap makes my anxiety go sky high. Hate to lose my laptop, I mean it seems to boot up to the desktop but that stupid cooler fan going full blast is what concerns me.

  • Could the replacement of a fan on a graphics card cause OS issues?

[Dangit - I unintentionally posted this in the iMac forum first - meant to post it here]
OK I suppose it's a bonafide long shot that my replacing of an intermittently malfunctioning fan on a graphics card could cause OS issues, but I've had something immediately crop up after the replacement (crippling issues with Logic's 32-bit audio unit bridge), and they effect older projects that were previously stable, so I figured I'd ask for the heckuvit.
Repairing permissions hasn't helped - I'm just starting to ponder whether to reset PRAM, reset SMC, boot from an HD clone, try reinstalling the old fan, etc., in order to figure out the problem....
BTW - the graphics card is an Nvidia GT120.

Go out and buy an Apple ATI 5770.
What requirements does Logic have for video, and are you still on 10.6.8?
    The GT120 is 512MB but low-end card.
