Noisy grid pattern on shots when viewed in Aperture (not in Lightroom)

Hi Folks - any ideas on this one?
I took a whole bunch of pics last night on my Canon D60.
Set to 400ASA using a 28-200 lens
Check out the results when I uploaded to Aperture....
http://www.flickr.com/photos/87604910@N00/396035178/
... see the fine spaced grid?
And then when I loaded into Adobe Lightroom
http://www.flickr.com/photos/87604910@N00/396033649/
... no grid pattern
All the images I took when viewed on aperture have that noisy grid pattern. The pattern disappears temporarily when I resize the viewing window on the screen.
Any advice much appreciated

The Flicker image is a JPEG. If you can post the original RAW file, we can try it on our systems...as Thomas requested.
Are there any adjustments made to the image or anything special done? Is the RAW Fine Tuning set to default? Also, does this occur with any other RAW images aside from that one camera?
thx

My pc has win the operating system view, which does not support lightroom 5. I want to buy version 4?

Thank you, Jim, for your prompt reply. Amazon has it for $151.99, Ebay has a few copies that end up being about as expensive after international shipping and other fees, and I don't trust most of the other sites after reading reviews on them. Looks like I'm going to have to fork out some dollars. How unfortunate.
    Thanks again,

  • In Photoshop Elements 8-I want the file name to show when viewing Thumbnails and not just dates.

In Photoshop Elements 8 i want to see the file names under the pictures when viewing thumbnails not just the date. Is this possible?

Anyway, if it's the organizer look under the View menu to enable the data that is shown under the thumbnails.

  • Files locked when viewed on Mac, not locked on PC.

I'm creating files on a PC that are not locked, yet when I view them through the network, SOME of them are labeled as "locked" in Get Info and I have to go through the minor task of holding down OPTION when emptying the trash if I use the Mac to delete them.
Small annoyance, but wondering why this is the case? Does anyone happen to know why?
Runing a brand new iMac with Leopard and a PC with Hummingbird NFS (also new) Windows XP Professional x64.
    Thoughts? Thanks!

    Hi,
To clarify, are you currently using the Mac version of Crystal Reports Viewer 2008 which you downloaded from here?: http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/reporting/viewer/index.epx

  • Regex: How do I match only when a string is not entirely numeric?

    Hi,
I'm using java regular expression pattern matching. I want to receive a successful pattern-match ONLY when a string is NOT comprised entirely of numeric digits [0-9].
So, for example, when pattern-matching on the following 3 strings,
"abcdef" would return match = true and
"abc123" would return match = true and
"123456" would return match = falseI have tried using the regex pattern [^0-9] but this only seems to work for strings that are one character long. The pattern [^0-9]+ didn't work either.
What I need is the equivalent pattern to [^\d+] (which is an invalid pattern).
Please note that I have to solve this one using regular expressions, even though it would be trivial to solve using straight java code!
    Any help much appreciated.

What I need is the equivalent pattern to
[^\d+] (which is an invalid pattern).Well as its an invalid pattern, how exactly do you expect us to know what you mean by it?!?
Based on your textual description of what you want, and on the basis that you seem not to want to negate theopposite, how's this (I assume we're talking core Java regex's?):
    myString.matches(".*[^\\d].*");

  • Strange Grid Pattern when Using Smart Filter

I added a smart filter to my image in Photoshop CS5 and performed a Highlights and Shadows adjustment, and there's now a faint diamond-shaped grid pattern over the entire image. This shows through all adjustment layers but disappears when I turn off the adjustment layer.
This occurs on both of my two monitors, and it happens at every scale that I view the image at, including 100% actual pixels.
I'm using a Mac Pro Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.8 GHz, with 10GB RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT video card. Running the latest Mac OS X, 10.6.3 and the latest Photoshop, CS% 12.0 x64.
    Any clues?
    -=-Joe

Ok thx, got the file and tested it.
First of all: Yes, I see the pattern, so it is obviously independent from both Hardware and operating system, I tested on Windows 7 / CS5X.
I can approve what c.pfaffenbichler found. Obviously we were wrong with our yesterdays findings that the transparency is not transparent. Instead, it is. It is barely visible, but testing it myself it seems to be "real" transparency, but at a very very low level, 1% max. I put a solid color behind that Smartobject. If you turn that layer visible, the grid disappears. To make sure that it realy is the bottom layer that shines through and not some kind of weird "new bug fixing other bug" thing, I put 2 layers behind the Smartobject, one pure black, one pure white. As you should expect, the image turns slightly (!) darker if you turn the black layer visible compared to the "only white layer visible" status.
So obviously shadow/highlights really seems to affect the transparency of smartobjects. Sometimes. Sweet. Will this be fixed?

  • Dates of images different (incorrect) when viewed in Finder to iPhoto

I want to give to family some images (stills [JPEG] + video [AVI] - all taken on my Pentax camera) to view on their Windows computers. The dates within iPhoto display correctly in the 'Information' window on the left whenever I click on an image. However, whenever I view these same images in Finder (either having 'Exported' the images to a "holding" folder in my Documents folder, or I simply view these same images in iPhoto Library via Finder), the dates are different (incorrect), and there is no consistent pattern in the 'differing' dates. Some images' dates in Finder are vastly different to the date & time the images were shot, and other images display just a few days difference in the dates(?!).
The historical dating of the family images is important for the future, so I really want to be sure that the dates will display correctly for the people viewing the images on their windows computers. As they obviously won't be using iPhoto I would hope that it will still show the correct date when they view the individual stills and raw video footage (not sure how they will view it, but presume I will burning these images to a DVD to share with them). *Can someone advise me if dates of the images will be correct when viewed on the Windows computers?*
    Cheers,
    Lehla

You are confusing the photo date which is part of the iPhoto database and is stored in the EXIF fields of the photo when exported and the file date which is what the finder other file management programs see
As long as you view the photo EXIF dates they will be the same inside of iPhoto and outside of iPhoto - the file date will change each time you create a new file

  • Why does text on certain portions of websites, usually when adjacent text contains special characters, become jumbled into seemingly random sets of characters that are not in any way jumbled when viewing the source of the webpage? How can I fix this?

When viewing most text on most websites, it displays properly. However, there are two instances where text will either tend to, or consistently, become jumbled into a mess of seemingly random characters. Oddly enough, these seemingly random characters are not, in fact, random. The same weird character will be used to replace the same regular English text character consistently across the entire area that has been jumbled.
The two instances where this tends to occur most often, or consistently in some cases, are, first, when a paragraph or particular section of formatted text contains special characters, such as Chinese or Japanese characters, or accented letters. When this happens, usually the paragraph that contains the special characters is completely jumbled, while the rest of the text on the page will have intermittent jumbling on a word or two. Most often, the word "the" is jumbled in this case.
The second instance where this happens is when a website uses specially formatted text in some form or another. I, not being an expert at web development, am not sure what kind of formatting causes it, but I can provide consistent examples in lieu of my experience:
    - Example 1:
Example 1 shows a portion of a screen-shot of the website "Joystiq.com". Every single article title on the front page of this blog is consistently jumbled, while the text of the article itself remains untouched. Please note that when this jumbled text is highlighted, it is visible un-jumbled in the right-click menu as well as in the source code of the page. Other consistent instances can be found within many search fields on various websites. For instance, the search bar located at the top right of "Kotaku.com" consistently displays jumbled characters both on its default text of "Search" and on any text that is typed into the search box itself.
    - Example 2:
Example 2 shows both the jumbling of the paragraph containing the character "☆" as well as the subsequent peppering of the rest of the article's text with small jumbled words. Below this is the DOM Source of the selected text which shows how the text itself is being rendered properly within the site's source. Additionally, for convenience, I have edited on to the bottom of the image a small snippet of what the search bar on the same page looks like. Notice how the grayed-out text that normally would read "Search" is instead jumbled.
This issue has been plaguing my browser for the past year or so, and I had hoped that it would go away with subsequent Firefox updates. It has not gone away.
Thank you for reading! Please help!

This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.
Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.
There have also been fonts with a Chinese name reported that identify themselves as Helvetica, so check that as well.
Use this test to see if the Helvetica font is causing it (Copy & Paste the code in the location bar and press Enter):
    <pre><nowiki>data:text/html,
    Helvetica<br><font face="Helvetica" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font><br>
    Helvetica Neue<br><font face="Helvetica Neue" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font>
    </nowiki></pre>
You should reset the network.http prefs that show user set on the about:config page.<br />
Not all websites support http pipelining and if they do not then you can have issues with images or other problems.

  • How can I change fullscreen background color, so that it is the same when viewing on mac and iPad? I want this to be able to use MathType in widget text.

How can I change fullscreen background color, so that it is the same when viewing on mac and iPad? I want this to be able to use MathType in widget text.
As an example, html widget has white background on iPad, and black on mac. The same goes for interactive widget.
The MathType text inserted is inserted as a image, and will have the same color when in fullscreen as when not. So I need the textcolor to be the same in both views. Anyone know how to fix this?

We're still not communicating. This is why I wanted an example .iba.
Here's a re-creation of my own, going off what you described. You said "all html widgets and all gallery widgets" have this problem. So I inserted a blank HTML widget and a blank Gallery widget, and typed into both. Inserted a MathType equation into both. I don't see any difference when I preview it on my Mac compared to the preview on the iPad. I want to help, but I can't help if I can't duplicate the issue.
I've attached the screen shots and the .iba file [link to .iba file].
Feel free to email me directly at bobm at dessci dot com. If you're uncomfortable giving some information here, tell me anything you want in email. I work for the "MathType company", Design Science.

  • TIFF & JPEG renders of RAW files appear different when viewed in Bridge

I am working with the demo of Photoshop CS6, with ACR 7.1. CS6 System Info will appear at the bottom of this post. Summary: AMD Phenom II x6 1090T, 16GB RAM, Win7-64bit, nVidia GTX 460 video w/1GB RAM, approx. 2.5 TB free space on multiple internal physical drives, Canon 50D, CR2 files. I have a camera profile generated through Profile Editor, and the monitor is calibrated with i-1 Match.
I have been practicing with the new Basic Panel controls (Process 2012). When I felt that I was getting the hang of them I started saving JPEG and TIFF files and noticed differences between what appears in Bridge and ACR. I worked on this for some time and searched out some other discussions in the Forum which seemed to talk about similar results. I have now tried Image Processor via Bridge, Save Image in ACR, and Open>Save manually in PS CS6. By whatever route, the TIFFs and JPEGs are different (lighter in the following examples, but this is not always the case), while PSD saves seem to be close, but not identical to the CR2 when viewed in Bridge or Photoshop. Here is a screen capture of Bridge thumbnails which show the differences.
I hope the labels come through legibly. The two images on the second row are CR2 and PSD respectively. What is really odd to me is that when I resaved the PSD file as a TIFF, the same sort of difference shows up in the TIFF. (See _MG_7960_via_PSD.tif above.) I have uploaded the CR2, its XMP, a TIFF and a JPEG on Sendspace (107 MB). I did this earlier in my experiments and regret that the file naming is not as informative as might be.
    http://www.sendspace.com/file/t0lhko
I have run a few other ACR adjusted CR2 images through Image Processor and seen a variety of differences between the rendered files and the RAW versions. The differences seem to be in Exposure and Contrast. Most of these looked somewhat darker, unlike the examples above.
I will happily provide any other information on request. Thanks!

Thanks very much for that lead, NormanPCN. I do have Auto Tone checked, though the rendered files in the example above do not have XMP sidecars. I will try unchecking Auto Tone even so, and post back when I see what happens.
    Thanks again,
    Kieren
EDIT: Bingo! I took Auto Tone off in ACR Preferences (in Bridge) and the non-RAW files immediately regenerated thumbs and previews. They now are indistinguishable from the PSD. There is still the very slight difference which I mentioned between the PSD and the CR2. While that seems odd, it is small enough to be relatively trivial.
    Many thanks!

  • Poor image quality when viewing PDFs in Digital Editions

I recently bought a digital copy of a book in the .acsm file format.  The site I bought it from recommended using Digital Editions.  I am on a mac, OS X 10.6.3.  When viewing this book, there are various screen shots that are essentially illegible in the single or double page format.  If I use the zoom feature they become more legible but still of low quality.  At first I thought it was the ebook I bought but I think it's Digital Editions, actually.  As a test I opened a plain 'ol PDF in Preview that had some screenshots in it - and those looked good.  Viewing the same PDF in Digital Editions though, the images were again of low quality.
Digital Editions doesn't seem to have preferences (like most OS X apps) that might allow me to tweak this.  Is there something that can be changed in terms of settings to make the images clearer?
Also, as an aside, Digital Editions on the Mac seems to have some delay when I try to copy things from the text.   I have to hold the command + c keys longer than I would otherwise in order to get the highlighted text to be copied.

In iTunes with you iPod connected select the Photos tab and check *Include full-resolution photos* and re-sync.

  • Photo quality worse when viewed on a PC -- why?

I'm experiencing a strange issue with some photos that I've touched up in iPhoto. When viewing the photos in iPhoto, they look fine. When exported into a different folder and viewed in Preview, they look fine. But later on I tried opening up the same exported files (jpeg's) on a PC, and some of them looked horrible. Some were horrendously noisy. Some had colors that seemed off. Some were far too sharp (I was playing around with the sharpness adjuster in iPhoto).
Has anyone experienced this issue before, and does anyone know why this happened? I plan on simply going back and toning down some of my edits/adjustments, but I'd like to know if there's an explanation for this.
One odd thing I noticed just now is that when opening some of these "bad" jpegs in Preview, for a split second, the photos look like they did on my PC. For example, I could see the pixel noise in one of them for a split second... similar to the way iPhoto first displays a blurry enlargement when double clicking on a photo. It almost seems like Preview and iPhoto are self-correcting bad images for display. Thoughts?

The primary cause of the misalignment is the fact the text is using a "Web Safe" font. A "web safe" font is not a single font. Rather it's a list/stack of fonts for the site visitor's browser to try until it finds one that's available the visitor's computer. That means on one computer the text is in one font (i.e. Arial) and on another computer it's another (i.e. Helvetica) with the subsequent fallout caused by the varying character widths between the two fonts. The best way to reduce this variation between site viewers is to use a Web Font (either an Edge Web Font or a Self-Hosted Web Font).
The alignment still won't be entirely consistent across browsers (or even versions of browsers), because each browser has it's own text layout engine and the engines do sometime change, but the variation will be radically reduced.

  • Trouble with the image quality when viewing under 100%. First time posting on the forum.

Hello everyone. I am sorry we have the get acquainted this way but I am having some issues and this is one of my last options of getting help.   Allow me to explain the problem.    When viewing a file under 100% zoom, everything looks jagged like the anti aliasing is missing.  Once I zoom in to 100%, everything looks the way it should. The saved file ( jpeg format for instance) is okay. I can zoom out and it still looks true to the image. The problem is related to photoshop. I installed my latest GPU drivers twice just to be sure and it was not from that.   This problem started last night and I don`t quite know how to solve it.  If I work on small resolution images, it isn`t such a bad problem because I will be working on 100% zoom, but I am working on high resolution images/ paintings. Somewhere around 8000x5000 pixels thus, working at 100% is not that doable. I attached an image that shows this issue. The one on the right is the zoomed out version and the one on the left is the zoomed in version.  Yes, the noise is affected by this, badly, but this started last night. up until then everything looked good even with noise or an out of this world sharpness. I can`t imagine what I could have done to trigger this.
This being said, I am at the mercy of the more knowledgeable folks from around here. I do hope I posted this question in the right section. This is my first post here so sorry if I messed something up.   Looking forward to your replies.

Here is a simplistic view that I feel may help you understand reality.
The only time you're looking at your image pixels in Photoshop is when you're zoomed in to 100%,   There your look at the actual image pixels Photoshop has for your image at your displays resolution.
At any other zoom level you are looking a scaled image that  has more or less pixels than your actual image these too are displayed at your display resolution.
The scaling done by Photoshop is done for displaying your image is done for good performance not for the best image quality a quick interpolation.   Therefore at some zoom levels image quality looks poorer  than at other zoom levels.
High resolution Display have now add a new wrinkle.   User interfaces were designed for displays  with resolutions around 100 PPI elements like text, icon, and other things like checkboxes, buttons etc. were created so there size would be useable are this more or less fixed 100 PPI resolution.   While Photoshop was designed to scale your images so you can work well on it is was not designed with a scalable UI.  Photoshop can not scale its user interface independently from its image display display window for you displays high resolution.  Photoshop's Image display area has the same resolution as the rest of Photoshop User Interface.  Just like there is only one resolution in all layers in a document. CC 2014 2xUI changes that.  PS UI is scaled to 1/2 resolution the image Area is at the displays actual resolution.
Photoshop CC 2014 2x UI scales all of Photoshop User Interface including the image display to 200% which is 1/2 your display resolution effectively cutting you display pixel count to 1/4 its actual pixel count.   Your once again running on a low resolution display.     If your display has a native resolution  200 PPI you're running it at 100 ppi if your display has a 300 PPI resolution  you're running it at 150ppi.    Which defeats the reason of having high resolution.  Which is you would like to be able to edit your images at print resolution.  Adobe cc2x UI scales the UI but not the image window soa inage is 216ppi on the Surface Pro 3 the UI is large and dpoes not fit. screen
To be able to edit your images at print resolution  you need a display the has a print resolution and you need and application the can scale its image display  and its UI independently.
Current there is no OS interface for having multiple resolutions areas on  a display  and applications like Photoshop can not scale UI and Image independently.  OS and Photoshop can scale what is displayed.  Adobe Photoshop executable is coded in a way that it tell Microsoft Windows OS that it will handle display scaling so it can using your displays native resolution.  Currently Only  Photoshop CC 2014  Provides you with the option of running you display at half resolution.
Windows can scale you display to many resolution and as several presets.  like 100%, 125%, 150% and like Adobe 200% half resolution.    You can make a Windows Registry and add an External Photoshop  Manifest file the tell's Microsoft Windows to handle display scaling.  I have a  Microsoft Surface Pro 3 m windows machine. Its LCD has a 216PPI resolution.  Windows 8.1 had 4 preset for scaling its LCD.
Surface Pro 3 LCD Display 12"  IPS display 3:2 aspect ratio 9.984603532054124" Wide, 6.656402354702749" High 216.3330765278394  PPI
    Microsoft Preset Display scaling
    100% 2160x1440   216 PPI
    125% 1728x1152   173 PPI
    150% 1440x960    144 PPI SP3 Default setting
    200% 1080x720    108 PPI
Most user these days has 1024x768 or better displays and Web pages are often authored for 800x600 pixels pages. So the give you a better handle on Resolution and scaling I have edit a 800x600 document with 25x25 px grid one my Surface pro 3
using Windows 4  scaling presets and captured the 2160x1140 scaled screens  Only at the 100% preset does the image window have a 216ppi Also note  @ 2x UI Photoshop UI doe not fit on screen
Adobe Photoshop  CC 2014 2xUI Scales the UI  to a display 1/2 resolution but does not scale the Image area  uses actual screen resolution. Photoshop  Help system info show the screen i 1/2 resilution 1080x720 but scalet the imase to the real resolution 2160x1440. however the image window is the 216ppi the ui 108ppi via scaling

  • Colors not displaying when viewing PDF files

Recently I've discovered that when viewing PDF files I'm not seeing all of the colors in the charts. This is happening with PDF files that I made as recently as last year (when everything looked fine). It's also happening with files that other people at other organizations have made. If I go to a coworkers computer and pull up the files, I can see everything just fine. Also, when I print the files, everything comes out just fine. Any ideas as to why I'm not seeing things correctly on my machine? I'm using a Dell laptop, Windows 7, Adobe Acrobat Pro XI, Microsoft Word 2010. I've also been having problems with graphics disappearing when converting Word files to PDF files but that's a topic I'll post on the Acrobat page. Seems like it may all be related to my new laptop. Thanks.
Attaching an image of what I see when I view the PDF file and a screen shot of the Word file with the color in which does print even though I can't see it. I can see some of the colors in the PDF file but not all of them.

    Hi,
The problem with ie9 or ie8 gets more complicated, since the alt key works on some files, one example is:
    http://www.instrulog.dk/download/manualer/humanware/focus-14-manual
The files where it does not work are placed on sites that require sign in with a digital signature, so it is impossible to give urls to  the files.
With screen readers and with pdf files in the browser, the normal way of getting to the
address bar does not work, but that is not really a problem but a minor irritation, and not a new behavior.

  • When viewing a spread, how to hide page divider

When viewing a two-page spread, how do you hide the page divider? See attached screen shot.

Have you considered setting your preferences to put the Guides in Back so that objects will obscure the unwanted (but helpful IMO) page
    guide?
Note: the frame is over the middle of a 2 page spread and has a fill set to [paper]. With the preference disabled (default), the page guide shows through. With it enabled (pictured above), the object fill masks the guide. If the guide truly bothers you, you can set a large frame filled with [paper] swatch across the spread and lock it in positions to prevent edits.
Not ideal to me, but everyone has their own idea of what works for them.
