Noisy headphone output macbook pro '11

just spent over 4K euros on the most pimped up 17 inch macbook pro, installed Logic, Mainstage, all my favorite plugins, connected to a pair of my trusty old Genelec monitors and: NOISE!!!!!
I'm an audio professional, over 25 years in the biz and used Macs since mid nineties.
I'm so ****** off.
I never had this problem with my previous laptops or even the desktops.
I know my cabling and system is fine.
What to do?

I have some issues with my mind 2011 13" Macbook Pro.  Using some Shure IEMs.  There is no noise with the headphones plugged into the jack, but as soon as select a song and hit play, a white noise starts up.
This is very annoying.

  • Recommendations for headphones for MacBook Pro.

I'm looking for a good pair of headphones for my MacBook Pro. I'm not sure I'm an audiophile, but I do appreciate excellent equipment and sound so high fidelity is important. With that, so is comfort. I'm not a big fan of earphones that fit inside one's ears, though my brother-in-law's Etymotic Research ER6i sounded great. I'm leaning toward the Grado SR 80. They're certainly not very portable in terms of tossing them in my computer bag as compared to the ERs, but it'd imagine they're going be more comfortable. Someone told me that the Grados need a good sound card for them to shine. He wasn't familiar with Macs, but assumed the MacBook Pro's audio output would be fine. I have no dealer in my area, so auditioning them is out. I'd appreciate hearing of anyone's experience with these and a MacBook Pro or other suggestions. Thanks.

I have the same computer. I use the Bose "noise-cancelling" Quiet Comfort 2 headset. They are somewhat expensive ($350), but they work well on commercial airlines (lowers jet engine noise), especially if you travel a lot. I also use these headphones at work to block out background noise.
I have had mine for well over a year with no complaints. I suggest going to an Apple or Bose store to check them out.

  • TS1574 Sound only from Left Headphone w/ MacBook Pro

Any external headphone that I use with my 13" Macbook Pro, the sound only comes out of the left headphone. The slider in my System Preferances is in the middle, and the headphones are all the way into the jack. Any ideas?

    Often resetting the settings helps.

  • How to output Macbook Pro VGA to LCD TV in full screen mode?

I Have a Macbook Pro 2007 with DVI to VGA output. I have connected it to my Toshiba LCD TV and am able to get a screen image on the TV without any difficulty. The problem is that the TV display is not full screen. I can't find any way to increase the size of the picture on the TV. Is this a limitation of the output or the TV display?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Macbook17Pro,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You may need to set the resolution on your Mac's display settings to match the resolution of your tv.

  • Jaybird headphones and Macbook Pro Retina bluetooth connectivity issues

I recently purchased the Jaybird Bluebuds X Premium headphones and for awhile it would connect to my new Macbook Pro Retina 15'' via bluetooth, but now it doesn't anymore. The headphones connect just fine to my phone (iPhone 4S), and other Macbook Pros (not retina), but they do not connect to other Macbook Pro Retinas. I was wondering if this was a connectivity issue with Macbook Pro Retinas and if so how can I get around it to connect the headphones again?
    Thanks

    Hey there LongHorn16,
It sounds like your Bluetooth headphones aren't working with this one computer, but there is no issue with other devices that you have. I would start with these 2 steps from the following article:
    Restart your computer
Sometimes a simple restart of your Mac is all it takes to get things running smoothly again. You may also want to try resetting your computer's PRAM and NVRAM.
    Reset your Bluetooth device
Try turning your device off and then on again. If that doesn't resolve the issue, see if you can reset your device—refer to the documentation that came with your device for instructions.
    Bluetooth Quick Assist

If it still doesn't work, then I would next use this article to remove the device:

Then restart your computer and pair it again:

  • Connecting two headphones to Macbook Pro without splitter

    Hello,
I would like to know whether there is anyway of connecting two headphone sets to my computer without a headphone (I am aware that they are cheap and relatively easy to come by, but this would be easier). My laptop has an audio IN and an audio OUT jack - the idea would be to change the audio IN to an audio OUT. I know this is possible on Windows, so I figured it might be possible on a Mac as well. Is there an app or system tweak that will allow this?
[OSX 10.6.8 running on a 2010 Macbook Pro 15"; 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5; 8 GB RAM; Intel 160 GB SSD]

the idea would be to change the audio IN to an audio OUT.
Not possible.  Just get yourself an inexpensive splitter cable.  Easy.  Cheap.  Works.

  • Noisy fan on MacBook Pro?

I just got a MacBook Pro today, and the fan is very noisy when I'm playing a game.  Do I have a problem?

    Probably not.
Games generally require more CPU/GPU power and they naturally heat up, making higher fan speeds necessary.
So when you're playing games, your processors are going to get hotter and your fans will run dfaster to the point where you can actually 'hear' them. At idle, MBP fan speeds run at right around 200rpms. When stressed they can go as high as (if not above) 6200rpms. And, boy, can you hear them then.

  • Clicks in headphones in MacBook Pro

Recently I have discovered very strange behavior in my MacBook Pro. When I plug in headphones (i have tried three different models) and nothing is playing (like music or movie), BEFORE and AFTER every sound produced (like sending a message in iChat or someone became available/went away in Adium) there are strange clicks in the headphones, like... I don't know how to describe it - something like simple light switch or something like that. The strangest thing is when I have some page open in Safari with multimedia content (like YouTube, for example), these clicks disappear. Additionally when music is playing in iTunes, for instance, clicks do not exist either. And I think I haven't heard them in Windows as well, so this leads me to believe that problem is rather a software one (I am sure I'd notice something like this in my 2+ months of using MBP). I even tend to think that it was caused by recent SMC update, but this is pure speculation. would be great to get this resolved though anyway.

    Hmm,
I too have experienced this exact strange issue. It is like a light switch going off, like a slight click/pop sound right before audio is played in iChat, volume changes, etc.
It is like the sound card is turning off, then coming back on, because you are all right, if you play something that uses a sustained use of the card, it does not do that.
Perhaps it was implimented to conserve battery power, problem is, it does not change when plugged in.
Mmmm, perhaps I need to take this up with Apple Care.

  • Output Macbook Pro to HDTV?

Is there a single chord that could be purchased either online, or preferably somewhere like BestBuy, that could let my Macbook Pro display onto an HDTV, so I could watch movies on it that I have downloaded, without buying an Apple TV?
    Thanks

good call, i forgot about the audio... DOH!
If you have a surround sound receiver, chances are you can use a optical cable for audio like neuroanatomist said. thats a mini toslink to toslink.
Otherwise use a mini stereo to RCA

  • OSX locks up when I plugin in headphones on MacBook Pro

Every time I plug in (or off) my headphones (even white iPhone ones), OSX locks up for about 10 seconds, and then works as normal, and even displays the beach ball. Not everything locks up, as I can still switch screens, etc, but I think the Finder does.
Initially I thought this was related to flash, as the flash player would stop working, but this happens even when the browser is closed.
I don't have any audio related apps installed.
Does anybody have any ideas of what could causing this, or tips on how to track down the problem?

  • Which cable to output MacBook Pro display to HDTV

I have an LG with both S-video and USB inputs. What sort of cable do I use to watch on the big screen?

No HDMI input on the TV? You could try a mini displayport to VGA adapter and then a VGA to S-video cable. I haven't tried it so I'm not certain it will work.
