Noisy mighty mouse click

I'm using a mighty mouse that came with my iMac in May 2008. Recently the clicking noise when I left click often becomes noisier and clunkier. Any suggestions as to what might be the trouble and solution?

Definitely.. Applecare. If you can get to a regular Apple store - you'll likely get it exchanged on location... I called in and was told up to 3 weeks (of course, that mouse died like the week after it was delivered). Local store was next day, and AppleStore was same day..
+3 weeks... and Apple expects headway in the business environment?+

  • Spontaneous Exposé with Mighty Mouse clicking

All of a sudden my PowerMac G5 will spontaneously go into F9 Exposé mode, showing all open windows, then immediately reverting back to the window I was working in. But then it will repeat this over and over and over and I'm unable to stop it. Eventually it stops on its own, but soon, while I'm attempting to go back to work on something, it starts again.
While I'm helplessly watching this on my display, my Might Mouse (wired) clicks all by itself, not like a click I would make by pressing on it, but a small internal sounding click. I have the sides of the mouse set to Exposé—All Windows when squeezed, but don't use that function of the mouse, and since it's a pretty specific maneuver that takes a bit of pressure to engage I don't think I could have accidently triggered it, so I don't think that's the cause. I don't even have to be touching the mouse or keyboard, though, for this to happen. I use the original white extended USB keyboard that came with the G5.
I have tried restarting the machine and that seems to correct the problem for a while, but then it eventually starts up again. It has happened with several apps and several windows open, so I thought perhaps it was some kind of memory issue, trying to do too much at one time, but it has also happened immediately upon start up with nothing opened yet.
Has this happened to anyone else? Does this mean my mouse is failing, or my keyboard is failing, or both, or is there something else going on? Any suggestions to alleviate this permanently?
Thanks so much for any help with this!

I am getting the same problem with my iMac. The mouse (wired Mighty Mouse) begins making a clicking sound and the open window begin going crazy as if I were using F10 for expose'. I have been unable to figure out what triggers it, or how to stop it. The problem happens too rapidly and for too long in duration for me to believe it's because i accidentally hit the side buttons.
What I have tried is to switch mouses, but this made no difference. I have recently set the mouse settings to turn off button 4, the side button. Don't know if this will work but worth a try. Any other ideas?
    Thanks for any help!

  • Problems with mighty mouse clicking

Hi everybody, happy New Year first of all!
Then my problem: I bought an Intel iMac about 1 year ago, and have been using the supplied wired mighty mouse since then. I set it up with left+right top buttons.
I didn't have a single problem until a few weeks ago.
First, the "typycal dirty scrolling ball" which seems to be solved by rubbing the ball on a piece of papere with the mouse up side down.
Second, and most annoying, *the click functions seems to perform worse than before*. I mean, it looks like *I need more pressure now to have the mouse click* (either left or right) on links, icons, etc.
Result: about half of the times, clicking the mouse (using the pressure I was used to) has no effort, I need to re-click with more intensity.
Did anybody of you experience the same problem? I cannot understand if it is kind of software problem (say, something that can be solved by some restore function) or a physical one (dirt? But the mighty mouse cannot be unassembled...).
    TIA to all,
    Giopad65

  • Mighty Mouse click happy

I'm using my Mighty Mouse for the first time today. I noticed lots of erratic behavior on my desktop and between open windows, then I picked up on what sounded like repeated clicks. Sure enough, my MM was rapidly and repeatedly clicking on its own, without any prompt from me. It appears to be sporadic, but I finally had to disconnect it in order to get some work done! Is this new-user error or what??

I had 2 new mighty mice doing the same thing. But not
only are they clikcing - they are also
    activating/deactivating exposé repeatedly. Both
systems were running at the same time when this
started. I have an airport extreme network.
Same issue with my mighty mouse on my iMac G4: When I touch the upper case surface with my fingers (not fingertips but complete fingers) -without actually pressing down the housing- the mouse performs the side-button action. I called Apple and they sent me a replacement mm, but it has exactly the same erratic behavior.
Both mice work fine with my other Macs by the way.
So I deleted my harddisk completely, performed a PRam and NVRam reset, reinstalled 10.3, reinstalled 10.4, but absolutely nothing helped.
The issue apears as soon as the Mac is switched on and recognizes the mouse - even before OSX is starting to boot.
I hope there will be a patch for this bug soon!!!!

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse Clicks

Sometimes (about once a week) my mighty mouse wont left or right click but it will move around on my iMac. If I turn the mouse off and turn it back on, it is able to click again. What's causing this interference?

    Hello m:
Basically a random event like that is - more or less - impossible to trace to a source.
I would trash the preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.

  • Mighty Mouse clicking and releasing randomly

    Hello,
Its difficult to describe exactly what is happening but I'll try to be specific.  I am running Mac OS X (fully updated) and Parallels 6.  The only major change I've made was to install Adobe CS5 creative suite to the Mac side, and the mouse issues started perhaps a week or two after that.  Basically, if I select something and try to drag it, whether it be objects in a design program, folders on the desktop, or even copy in a document, the mouse will deselect and reselect at random.  This has gotten progressively more irritating to the point where I dread the click and drag wholeheartedly.  Some days are definitely worse than others, and there is no rhyme or reason as to when this will happen.  I could be organizing the desktop, working in Adobe Indesign, or simply editing copy in Microsoft Word.  It also has no qualms as far as whether I am working on the Mac or PC side.  It is obnoxious on both platforms.
So far I have tried all the basics such as restarting, using compressed air to clean out the mouse, attaching a new mouse (its a usb connection), using a different usb port altogether, and using compressed air to clean out the ports before I plug the mouse in.  I have also tried switching between my desk and a mouse pad in complete desperation.  None of these attempts have has any affect.  Can anyone offer any suggestions?

    Hi, Guys!!
And you have some right cosmic_hippo , Why?
Well think that the real problem it's something between Firefox and Flash content...
because if i use Safari and i try make what i describe in the first post, i don't have any problem with the mouse settings.
Only Happens when i use Firefox...
    Cheers.
Well the issue is still there...

  • I have messed up the settings on my Mighty Mouse and don't know where they should be.  I cannot open a document by double-clicking anymore.  I don't know what setting adjusts that.

I need help with my Mighty Mouse settings.  Don't understand the settings.  I can no longer open a document by double-clicking.  I think I changed my setting someway when I was trying to correct or find my up and down scrolling.   Please help.

I think you need to un-pair your mouse.   Leave it a few minutes than re-pair it as if you were starting from scratch and using the following details.   Item 1 will probably meet your needs.

  • Middle-clicking woes in X11 Apps using a mighty mouse

    Hi,
This has been a frustrating issue ever since I got my new work computer (it's been over a year and a half) and I've just suffered through it. While middle-clicking a half dozen times today until it worked, I finally decided to ask to see if there's a solution other than scrapping the mighty mouse.
The problem is that when I use XEmacs (an X-windows app I use for coding), I like to use the middle click to paste, but I almost always manage to make the scroll-ball scroll inadvertently which causes the middle-click to not work and hence, nothing gets pasted. I know that there are other methods I could utilize, like setting up option-left-click or by command-c/command-v, or by using menus, but that's not what I want. I just want to highlight and middle-click. I want to have a middle-click that works with one try every time. I use all the clicking surfaces, so I don't want to map middle click to some other button. Is there a way I can tell X11 to ignore the scroll and middle-click anyway? Can someone give me a pointer on how to middle click better? This is crazy.
    Thanks,
    Rob

Have you tried an alternate Mouse driver?
    USB Overdrive
    <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/13443>
    SteerMouse
    <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27620>
I think they have demo modes.
Personally, I use a Logitech mouse with about 9 buttons. My scroll wheel can be pushed left or right. Left is configured to Copy and Right is configured for Paste. Via USB Overdrive it does Command-C/Command-V for Mac applications, and the correct thing for X11 applications. That is to say, I can have the buttons do different things for different applications.

  • Mighty Mouse Wireless Right Click not working

    Hi Friends!
I am having some difficulty getting my Right Click on my Wireless MM to work. I am aware that I need to keep my left finger off the mouse but it still does not seem to be working.
    Any thoughts ?
    Thanks !
    J

Try replacing the battieries (or just taking them out and putting them back in). Forcing the connection between the Mighty Mouse and the iMac to break. Then put the new batteries, or the ones you were you using from before, in the MM.
Re-link the Mighty Mouse to the iMac and try applying the settings for the right click function in System Preferences.
Remember to mark as helpful or solved.

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse Looses Right Click Functionality

I am using a new Wireless Mighty Mouse (about one month old) With new batteries.
Since I started using it, the (secondary) right click would stop function after repeated use. After many frustrating trouble shooting attempts, I discovered that the Right Click will work again if the mouse is left idle for about 15 - 20 minutes.
I will like to know if this is a defect that's inherent in the Mighty Mouse system, and if so, has anyone found a solution to this problem or is there a fix?
Any input would be very much appreciated
    Mac G5. 2ghz DP   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    Mac G5. 2ghz DP   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Unfortunately my experience suggests no. I'm on my 5th (or is it 6th?) wireless Mighty Mouse now, and they've all behaved just as you described. The latest replacement was only a week ago. I suspect the only point in replacing it further times would be to demonstrate that you've tried all you can. As far as I can tell, my only recourse at this point is convincing Apple to refund me, which is a shame because I like the scroll ball design.
I should note that I'm in Australia, in case stock has been slower to update here, but it shouldn't make a difference...
I've noticed that the problem seems to occur a lot more frequently under hot conditions - room heater on, hot hands etc. Could it still think the left button is being touched because it's warm and/or sweatier than usual?

  • BT Mighty mouse is not middle clicking

Hello. My BT mighty mouse is no longer doing a MMB click. I click the ball, but get a normal click. Apps that need a middle-click are not seeing one.
I have the mouse control panel set to button 3 for the ball.
Any ideas? Is this software or hardware?

Is it a wired or Blue Tooth MM? I'm assuming it's Blue Tooth, if so please use:

  • Corded Mighty Mouse only middle-clicks in bootcamped Win7

... whereas in OSX, middle click ceased to function.
So let me explain this further:
I have a corded Mighty Mouse, model number: A 1152
In OSX Snow Leopard, it is only capable of left clicking. I don't know why right and middle click won't work (the wheel also only goes up). In System preferences I have set Left and Middle buttons to Left click; right button to right click. But I use ctrl+click because right click won't work. So, I'm pretty much used to this setup although the Mighty Mouse is only a year or two old.
Then I installed Win7 via boot camp. Clicking was weird during installation so I managed to get over it with the keyboard (which works fine btw). But then, after installing all the updates and the windows support software it still only middle clicks. Sometimes, maybe depending on certain pressure angles on the mouse, it will do a normal Left click, but the next click is mostly middle.
So how come middle click doesn't exist while in Snow Leopard but in Win7 there is only middle click?

did you use osx bootcamp to make a windows driver disc ? if not do so

  • Mighty Mouse - cannot click

I am dead in the water. I am using a Dell to post this, because my Might Mouse, normally a bit finicky and in need of regular cleaning, suddenly does not work. No clicking. No moving the cursor, which is now invisible. What on earth can I do?

I would definitely get a new Mighty Mouse. I got a new one through AppleCare Support as it was making 'grinding' noises when I clicked and failed to work at times as it was sticking. The new one works as advertised! I had reservations putting it against my credit card but I was quickly reimbursed by Apple once they got the defective one back.
