Noisy seagate HD. how can i switch the system to my new HD?

...tired of the noise that my original Seagate HD produces, I am decided to buy a new, much quiter HD (western digital seems to be the best option).
now the question is: how can I restart the mac on the new HD if it's empty and with no system inside?
what do I do once taken out of the box? Do I simply put the new HD in one on the empty slots and it will it appear immediately on the desktop, or do I need to do something? (before doing all these things I would like to be sure).
is there a link on the apple site which explains all that?
thanks

While SuperDuper is excellent, no need to even leave Disk Utility to clone a volume. It has a Restore option that works just fine, and is what I always use to first copy a system (assuming you don't want to do a fresh install and have already done updates and 3rd party installs). SD is great when you want a quick means to update your backups or clone.
Also, no matter which method you choose to use, go back to Disk Utility, click on the new drive volume, and select First Aid and Repair Permissions.
I sometimes like to run the latest Combined Update also on a new clone before booting. I would leave the old drive in as backup, and even repair the drive and permissions once on the new drive.
My complaint with Seagate OEM is it runs hot for a 160GB drive, even when idle and not even being accessed or used at all. And 'sluggish' on the performance side.

    On your phone (from http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1311):
    Change your iTunes Store country
    Sign in to the account for the iTunes Store region you'd like to use. Tap Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region.
    Follow the onscreen process to change your region, agree to the terms and conditions for the region if necessary, and then change your billing information.

  • How can I switch the region code on MBP w/ DVD drive for the 5th and final time?

    How can I switch the region code on MBP w/ DVD drive for the 5th and final time? It brings up the window with that world map to do it, including the warning that "this is the 5th and final time I can do this", when inserting a DVD and opening "DVD Player", but it never executes my click on the "Change Drive Region" button prompt.
    VLC or Quicktime Player won't play it either, but won't bring up that window to change Region Code anyway....
    Otherwise, I'm not having any other issues with this MBP at all. Peak performance on all counts :-)
    I tried resetting SMC after chatting w/ Apple Support, but it didn't help.
    That was the link they provided. Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac
    Tried zapping PRAM as well.
    Thanks for any clues, Rene

    Region encoding is the mechanism that enables motion picture studios to control the worldwide release of their movies. It is required by the DVD Forum (http://www.dvdforum.org/forum.shtml) in all commercial hardware DVD players. Every DVD-Video disc contains one byte of data representing a region code, which limits where the disc can be played.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2397
    Once you have set the region in DVD Player five times it cannot be changed. However see this also:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA25416?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    Instead, use VLC to view videos from different regions:

  • How can i get the system language of machine in script

    Hi,
    During postinstall, i want to install file based on the system language.
    How can i get the system language of machine in script ?
    Thanks,

    Michael Conniff wrote:
    I don't get it: what you posted gives a list of all the languages (and I don't see what awk brings to the party).
    Hmm. On my laptop the first bit gets me the list of languages as they appear in the listing in the International preferences pane:
    (en, de, es, ja, fr, it, nl, sv, nb, da, fi, pt, "zh-Hans", "zh-Hant", ko)
    So I piped that to awk to pull out just the first one (they're ordered just like they are in the prefs pane, with the current language first). But that gives me some extra text:
    (en,
    So I piped that to sed to remove the comma and parenthesis. That gives me the current code, which in my case was "en" (or "de" if I switched the language).
    defaults read -g AppleLocale
    gives me en_GB. So maybe this last is better for you?
    Well, sure, if you want to do it the easy way. But where's the fun in that? Seriously though, I get en_US, which is a more accurate and complete view of my settings...

  • I have the computer with my itunes library on it but no longer have access to the email account the library was set up with. How can I transfer the library to a new appleid/email?

    I have the computer that holds my itunes library. However, I no longer have access to the email account (and therefore apple account) it was set up with so can't sync/update etc. How can I transfer the library to my new apple id? Any help gratefully received as searched the internet but can't find the answer!
    Have ipod touch 4th gen, ipod touch 5th gen and ipod nano 7th gen all to sync to library.

    Hi Stillme,
    You cannot transfer purchases from one Apple ID to another. You need to go into the old Apple ID and change it to the new email address instead of using a new Apple ID altogether.
    Apple - My Apple ID
    If you can't remember the password to the old ID, then click on Reset your Password, and answer the Security Questions. If you can't remember the Security Questions, contact iTunes Support and have them reset:
    APPLE ID SECURITY CONTACT NUMBERS
    Once you get into your old account, Edit the Apple ID to your new email address. Before you will be able to do that you are going to have to change the email address on the new Apple ID to something else.
    Cheers,

    If the answer to the above question is "yes", FIRST, set up a backup of your new computer before you do anything else so the next time your computer breaks you will not be in the same situation. Backup solutions are numerous and inexpensive, and there is absolutely no excuse in the Third Millennium not to have one.

    Hi,
    You can use SimpleDateFormat class under java.text package.
    SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MMM-yy h:mm a z", new Locale());
    //formatter.setTimeZone(timezone);
    String dateTime = formatter.format(new Date());

    How can I disable the system feature which automatically restarts applications i had open during a previous session ?

    When you log out, uncheck the box to reopen applications. If you're still using 10.7.3, then you will have to uncheck the back with each shutdown or restart.
    10.7.4 update was suppose to fix it that when you uncheck the box, it should remain unchecked for restarts after that.

    Note that new Date(), constructs a Date with the current Time,
    you could also use: new Date(System.currentTimeMillis());
    Hope this helps

    I recently purchased a brand new Airport Time Capsule 2TB. I already am using the previous generation time capsule to back up all my computers data. May I ask how can I complement the usage with my new time capsule?

    By default your new Time Capsule will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN
    Most likely your iMacs will be connected to the wireless network created by the Virgin Media router. However, both should see the Apple Network under the AirPort icon's drop-down menu as another wireless network that they can connect to. Is this not the case?

    You need a computer with iTunes installed to regain use of your iPod.  Unless you have the iPod backup file from the syncing computer all you can do is to restore the iPod to factoery defaults/new iPod.  You will also need to place the iPod in recovery mode is you restore the iPod on other than on its syncing computer.  For reoverymode see:
    iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    Remember the passcode is a security feature.
