Noka Map Loader without maps

Good morning from Italy
There is a problem that i hope to solve soon
I Installed Nokia Map Loader for Mac (up-to-date) yesterday (thanks to your forum),
but the list on the left side (where should be the maps) is empty, i can see only Update Entries & History...
So i have now the Nokia Map Loader connected with my mobile, but no maps on it to drag & install.
Is there a problem with this software, or any way to update the map list?
Thanks in advance,
Fabrizio

Tnx scoobyman.
The 4 GB card was new and I "formatted" it by running Maps on my 6303 once. The download problems however, already started with the original 1 GB card which contained Spain only. Two of those files are well protected against transfer (to my PC and thus to the new 4 Gig card).
DL of Europe completely stopped after 2%. Repeatedly. I had to break up Europe into the countries and then break up the major countries into their parts. I really didn't want to do that because I read in this Board that it'll give problems in navigating 'across borders'. Italy was no problem whatsoever, nor were most country files smaller than 50 MB. Guess I was very lucky that Sweden (80 MB) worked after 5 tries. The England part of the UK is IMPOSSIBLE. (As are Poland and Finland.) My traffic counter on England alone exceeds 2 GB! BTW: I shut down my firewall (ZA) and the XP firewall. I also closed all background programs that might try for Internet access (such as Skype and MSN). All to no avail.
All I can think of is that something -a special character sequence- in these three country files stops the data transfer. Maybe in my ADSL modem? As such I was thinking along the lines of changing the packet size of the TCP/IP protocol. Which I succesully did years ago with Windows 98 SE and a dial-up modem . . .

  • Using google map polygon without map

    Hallo
i use a polygon ( com.google.maps.overlays.Polygon) in a value object (fieldData) besides other data, later in the programm the polygons are displayed in a google map.
    new FieldData(".....","1",new Polygon([
                        new LatLng(49.70624852,8.17595987),
                        new LatLng(49.70634712,8.17589098),
                        new LatLng(49.7063722,8.17708855),
                        new LatLng(49.70627548,8.17720608),
                        new LatLng(49.70624852,8.17595987)]
i instantiate the value objects on programm start and i get this error:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
         at com.google.maps.overlays::Polygon()
It seems like i get this error because there isnt a google map object existing at that time on programm start. so i changed my code to call this methode on programm start before creating my value_Objects:
    protected function initMap(): void
                        var map:Map = new Map();
                        map.key = "...................";
                        map.enabled=false;
                        map.visible=false;
                        addElement( map );
it works! but i dont like the code, i dont need that map object at that time and not in the main component. so i made it invisible.... isnt there a better way to use polygons without having a map-object?

so let me ask you the last question : Is it possible to use google map APIs from mobile applications, I believe many ppl use those APIs for developing web applications, so all I wanna know is whether it is suitable for mobile applications.
Tnx in advanceNote that this is a Java forum, not a JavaScript forum or a Google Maps forum.

unfortunately no, it does not seem that you can compare the version of map data. strange though, i wouldn't have thought it would be that difficult to include the date of maps in the software. but alas, there is no option anywhere in Map Loader or the Maps application to view this . ohwell, i personally don't see the need to update maps until at least six months/a year in the future anyway. unless the region that you live in is constantly changing and it affects your travel habits, in which case you can see the importance. but i'm happy enough updating every six months/a year (yearly in which new version of Maps is released anyway).
personally, also i think standalone GPS units for cars such as TomTom, Navman etc are much more useful in day-to-day usage for navigation. nothing against Nokia phones, but just for convenience they are much much easier and there is the larger screen which makes things much much easier. for me, the phones are useful in Pedestrian mode or for short distance, non-complicated routes (i.e. few street directions). then again, i also use a paper street directory sometimes as well. just whatever floats your boat i guess

  • Does mapping exists without mapping templates?

I created a mapping using 4 mapping templates.
When I am deleting the mapping templates it is giving me error that it is being used in the message mapping.
After we created message mapping using mapping templates, if we want to make the mapping as independent of the templates, is it possible?
I dont want to ship too many objects to QA or other systems.
    Thanks in advance,

Did you get an Error or an information message?
Mapping template are independent of the mapping. You might get an information message regarding the dependency but it shouldnt be an error. You can ignore the info message.

  • Maps Loader Improvement Suggestions

Why can't the Maps Loader program be designed to show you what countries, regions, states, etc., you have on your phone so you know and don't try to download them again, or so you can delete some you previously downloaded, but don't use, to release the memory space for other uses?
Seems to be a pretty basic function, i.e. being able to see what is taking up space on your memory card or phone internal memory.

Hi, I have the following question - suggestion. I have noticed, that the maps on my nokia 6303i are outdated compared to online Ovi maps. Even if i download the maps using Ovi suite or Nokia Map loader, tha maps on my phone seem to be of an older date than those in Ovi application.
    1. Maybe there should be some version information of maps currently installed and those available online.
    2. The map update process should be availble for all devices supporting GPS navigation, not just for certain models. It is very frustrating to see, that the online maps have been updated, but you are forced to use the older maps...
It may be, that I am wrong on this, but if someone has a better suggestion for my Nokia 6303i on map updating I will be very grateful for your help.
    SOLUTION!
I have managed to update maps from ver0.013h, BUT WITHOUT USING OVI SUITE!!! I found some info on the internet suggesting to get the maps directly from nokia map servers. And indeed there was a new version available 0.0.14h (dated 22. feb 2010 - i think), which my OVI suit cannot find of course. I have downloaded all the regions i need and unzip them to "diskcache" folder and it worked prefectly. I used this link for info:
    http://blog.martinletis.com/2008/02/nokia-maps-download-links.html
    But replaced:
    http://static.s2g.gate5.de/maploaderzip/0.0.14h/[NUMBER].zip
where 0.014h was the latest version and is the same as on the ovi maps on the internet.
I have replaced NUMBER acording to region i needed: for example: Italy -123.zip
Everything worked OK from then on. My phone: Nokia 6303i, using nokia maps 2.0.
THE UPDATE PROCESS IN OVI SUITE 2.2.0.245 IS AWFULL (it says no updates available, where there clearly are), DO SOMETHING PLEASE!
    Off topic:
Now I have to say, that i dont trust this ovi suite saying there are no firmware updates for my phone also. I have firmware version 9.10 and again "no updates available", however I read on the internet that there is 10.12 already available. Well there you see how reputation is gone...

  • Error when start Map Loader

I found Error message, and asked me to start the application again, every time I start Map Loader version 1.2 (latest).
I installed, and was asked to install also NET Framework 3.0.
Some people said the error casued by NET Framedwork, but I could not run Map Loader without it.
I tried reformat my E61i and its memory card, but the problem occured the same.
Anyone facing the same problem? Any recommended solution?
Thank you for your help in advance!

You might not be able to download the .net framework 3.0 correctly using the installer for maps loader. Try this:
Download and install the .net framework 3.0 from this location ---> http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/d/a/4da3a5fa-ee6a-42b8-8bfa-ea5c4a458a7d/dotnetfx3setup.exe
Then try to install the Maps loader again, this time it will not ask you to install the .net framework.

  • Problem with Map Loader 3.0.28.0 and 5800XM

Hi all, i have a problem with maps upload to my mobile, whenever i start Map Loader i see a message: You have connected at least one phone (Soft) without a Maps drive. Either you are using an old Map version - .. - or have never started your Maps application... I use USB PC-Suite mode, I have had run Maps application on my phone before i try to connect Map Loader, the Maps version installed on the phone is v3.03 10wk01 b05 - so that's obviously not a reason!! Now i can't install new maps anymore - i just can click this error window away and choose some maps, they would be downloaded from the Internet, but  they would not appear on my mobile! With a previous version of the map loader (don't know the version number any more, and previous maps version on the phone, i have no problem)            I also need a link to Maps Updater due the Nokia site malfunction - couldn't find this software anymore.... sorry my poor english :-)

Problem solved! The STUPID software searchs for ALL mass storage devices attached to your computer, so I got error messages all the time until I unplug my USB Hard drive.
Thank you Nokia guys, your were great help by solving this problem   .....
By the way,  the STUPID software doesn't shows the maps that would be all ready installed on the phone, and you couldn't say that the upload of the maps was really successful  until you waisting your time watching the progress bar to the end.
I wouldn't be suprise if you can install the same map twice so it takes the twice space....

  • Erasing map data using map loader?

my n95 8gb seems to just hang and constantly say deleting data please wait...
how long should it take? after 15 mins i turned map loader off and hey the maps had been deleted. why does it hang like that?

Could be something else on your computer thats causing it to crash.
Have you updated to the latest 2.x version of map loader from maps.nokia.com?

  • Map loader/ software updater problems

I have had my N95 for about 2 weeks and have spent hours trying to get gps to work. I have just been following someones instructions on another thread but fell at the first hurdle. Nokia recommends that I install Nokia maps up date prior to installing map loader, then map loader recommends I download and install nokia sofware updater. Problem there is I get an error message half way through saying minimum requirement is 256mb memory. I have loads of memory so I don't understand why this is happening.
Can anyone help? You will need to keep it simple!!

    Hi,
But the problem is in RAM memory of Your PC not in this on Your Hard Disk Drive (59,95GB). This memory is mounted on motherboard of your PC. Check inner configuration. Control panel - system. If it's lower then 256MB, you have to buy another block of RAM. And how big is your SD card. Besides nokia map loader doesn't work now. See the topics below yours. Some problem with software update version 20. Maybe if you didn't updated older v.12 soft. it should go.

If you have Ovi Suite, you dont need map loader. You can even install PC Suite. Its unadvisable to have them both on the PC
Connect your device to your PC and Ovi Suite. Right click on the bottom where it says connect new device. Follow the prompts. Then select View>Go to>Maps. Select the maps and voice you want to download.

  • Map Loader error while loading catalogue

XM 5800, latest firmware, Maps 3 installed and working OK. I get "Error while loading catalogue for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic" whenever I start Map Loader 3.
Uninstalled/reinstalled Map Loader 3 several times.
Tried suggested fixes of deleting qf and cities folder then running Maps to recreate file structure.
Tried it on a Windows 7 PC with PC Suite and also a Vista PC with Ovi Suite. Same error message.
I am left without the ability to download any maps except over the air as I go incurring data charges.
So I may as well just use Google maps!
I see in the discussion groups this issue comes up for many different Nokia phones occasionally but I have never seen a solution.
    Anyone?

Just when I thought Nokia Care technical support knew what they were doing!!!!
About 4pm NZ time yesterday, after the Map Loader server had been working for about 3 to 4 hours and everything was fine. I got a call from Nokia tech support. I was on the other line so they left a message.
"Sorry, its not going to work because map loader is not completely compatible with Windows 7"
and my email support thread finally pointed me to a "Solution" discussion board entry detailing a fix for Maps 2. You had to download the latest version of Map Loader 2.02!!!!! That was really helpful considering we are on 3.03 and 3.0.28 respectively
So it all stating to work again may have just been coincidence and nothing to do with our support calls! :-<
Oh well at least its working. Now all I have to fix is the MTP USB Device driver failing.

  • Nokia map loader 2.0 beta

i've just downloaded the nokia map loader 2.0. one interesting feature beside the many added new features is that it recognizes the phone without going into Data Transfer mode. i mean i was able to use it with the Pc Suite mode.
Fear not those who argue but those who dodge

i am not sure that there is support yet for win 7 beta as it is in beta stage, you might not be able to update your phone. if you have access to another computer with xp or vista try updating via that computer and see if it works.

  • The dreaded map loader error

    Hi,
I've just gotten a new N95 8GB and am trying to download some maps to my phone. I have run the maps application on the phone and successfully connected the phone via USB in data transfer mode. The problem is I am getting the following error:
"An unexpected error occurred. Try again. Sorry for the inconvenience."
I've searched everywhere for a solution but without any luck. Sompe people reported proxy/firewall issues but I am running from a home connection and even moved my PC coonected to my phone into the DMZ without luck.
Has anyone been able to solve this problem or should I give up and keep what is left of my hair on my head?
    grantonstar

I've been trying to get the maps via Nokia Map Loader 1.2.1. I just installed .net framework 3.0 and reinstalled with no luck either.
I've been using it with my home wifi connection but I want to be able to download a whole country so the map data is there for when I go out. Unless there is a way to pre-get a region or country direct from the phone?

  • Map Loader load offline

Call me silly but I just killed 2. something GIG of download.
I instructed Map Loader to download Europe (no less) which happens to be a wopping 2.2 Gigabyte. It calculated probably pretty accurately that downloading Europe would cost 1 hours 9 minutes and 48 seconds. A decent figure. Having started the download I absentmindedly and without any evil will disconnected my phone mid-download after 45 min give or take to make a phone call. That made Map Loader scream with discomfort (Waiting for phone!!) and  eventual crash, with a fancy .NET debug message displayed. Yes, my dear readers, Map Loader is written with some Visual tool from Redmond where I expected a nice Qt based application. This now meant that all work was for nothing and the next time I selected Europe for download I was surprised to find it hadn't shrunk and was still the 2.2 Gigabyte and would still take 1 hours and 9 minutes and 48 seconds (thanks, Data) to download.
Now, I did not disconnect my ISP, paid all the facility bills so actually there would be no reason why 87% or an odd 1.8Gig wouldn't be around sitting on my PC still so that only that last 13% needed a download and I would go ahead and fix a drink to have the download finished in an agreeable time.
It would be nice for my and Nokia's bandwidth and the environment (not to mention Europe) to have Map Loader at least save partial data so that in case of an unfortunate attack on the connection between Map Loader and the hand-set at hand it would be able to continue where it left off.
Just a hint. If anyone cares.

    Correct.
Here are the index files (that will allow offline search), straight off Nokia's server.
I don't know if there are newer versions available.
These work for 3.01 of Nokia Maps; I have verified them all.
They probably work for all 3.0 series maps unless they have made serious changes.
    (I don't know about or use 3.03).

These index files must live in
    cities\diskcache\ClientIndex
    on your memory card.
The contents of these zip files (index files) should be extracted to this ClientIndex folder.
If you have 72 folders listed in the root of the cities\diskcache\ClientIndex directory, then it's probably because you decided to extract or install all clientindex files (and/or maps) available on your 8GB (or more) stick, represending 72 countries.
If you have less, it's probably because you decided to install less maps covering less geographical regions. This will vary depending on your choices and maps loaded.
In addition to the above, the cityindex.xml file has to be populated with the right continents/countries listed inside it to allow offline search.
This file lives in the cities\Maploader folder on your memory card.
Populating the cityindex.xml file is normally taken care of by Map Loader (you can easily obtain a fully-populated cityindex.xml file by downloading one (ideally, small) country of each major geographic region with Nokia's Map Loader. In other words, downloading one country under the Africa heading, one country under Asia, etc. After this lengthy and unfriendly process, you will find that a cityindex.xml file of about 10KB is saved listing all countries in it.
Save this cityindex.xml file somewhere, along with your downloaded maps and index files. You may now delete the map files you downloaded on your phone in order to get that fully-populated cityindex.xml file. Now you have the ability to load maps and index files completely offline, without Map Loader. Onto multiple supported phones if you wish, too.
Nokia aren't guaranteed to support you or your phone in the future, and I personally don't expect favourable changes with any future software product (seen too much good software go bad with future releases).
This is why I prefer saving things rather than rely on Nokia's horrendous software (which only allows the delete-it-all or re-download-it-all-again-but-don't-save-to-PC options). Others that don't like Nokia's silly approach know who they are, too.
There are big revenue models being dreamed up now, and I for one don't like the social network aspects Nokia are cooking up or particularly want to use any online features.
I don't want to live with the constant stream of bugs, interface and usability changes that implementing them can cause, too. Basically I don't like where Ovi Maps development is going and at least I know I can load a device to a know fixed state without being at the whims of Nokia's software development.
With a frozen (saved) app, maps & index files, you aren't at the whims of Nokia's crazy development

  • Map Loader Bug Re. Lost Internet Connection

Don't really know how to alert the programmers behind the Map Loader software to a fairly major software bug.
If the internet connection is - even very briefly - interrupted for even a second, the Map Loader software gives an error message.
BUT - big problem - the map selection CLEARS so you can't resume from where you left. Nor can you see which maps had successfully downloaded while the connection was active, so you have to download the WHOLE list again.
Please update for the next release.

    D-Park,
    Welcome to the HP Forum.
If you were using MAC filtering on your router, you would know how to fix this.    If you do not know what it is, you do have have MAC filtering enabled on the router -- or you are not the router administrator.   So -- don't worry about MAC filtering or go find the router administrator and ask to be let in (you will need the MAC address of the printer -- get a print out of the network page from the printer).

You did say the printer lost Internet connection -- this is a bit different from losing connection from your home network.  You seem to be implying that your printer has lost its ePrint connection without actually saying you have lost ePrint.
The following document can help with both a disconnected wireless printer that is not cooperating -- even after you have tried reinstalling the Full Feature Software, for example -- and the document has a link to the ePrint Help and Tips documents that might help you if the issue is just one of ePrint and an Internet connection having to do with the printer and its connection to that service.
