Nokia 1020 - any way to get an internet connection...
There doesn't seem to be any way to get networking via BT.
As a possibly separate issue, I can connect to my Nokia 808 over BT and they pair up OK, but the 1020 doesn't see any network, dial-up or any other service like that in the 808.
Every windows laptop and even a win8.0 Lenovo tablet can connect to the 808 over BT, and all but win8.x devices can also do it over wifi (Joikuspot). Why can't the win8.1 Nokia phone do this?
In that case, what methods *are* available on the 1020 for getting an internet connection, other than using
- built-in GSM/3G/4G, or
- built-in WIFI (infrastructure mode only)
Can one do it via USB?
Why is adhoc WIFI or bluetooth insecure, for a personal temporary internet connection, from another device, used typically while travelling and used to make sure that roaming costs are contained within the one device on which there is a decent roaming data package?
Currently the only way I see is a 3G-WIFI modem (e.g. the E585) with a locally puchased data SIM inside it, but such deals are available only in some countries in Europe. They also tend to be really difficult to purchase e.g. in Greece you spend an hour or two in a phone shop, proving your identity with a passport and other documents.
Was this done because the networks (who own the phone shops) insisted on it, as a condition of carrying the phone in their shops?

I live in a three-story house and have a Wi-Fi network set up using a Time Capsule and a couple of AirPort Express units. The Time Capsule, which is connected to the modem and is the initiator of the network, is on the second floor and there’s an AirPort Express each on both the first and third floors.
In India, we do not have the luxury of high speed unlimited access to the Internet. We can either opt for a 2Mbps connection (yeah, +scorching fast+, I know) that is capped at 2.5GB and allows unlimited access between 02:00 AM and 08:00 AM each day, or a 512Kbps unlimited connection.
Right now, I’m subscribed to the latter, but I made the mistake of traveling to the USA recently and, after having gotten used to the 16Mbps speeds for a month, I just cannot tolerate the incredibly slow speeds anymore.
Therefore, I’m thinking of switching to the 2Mbps connection. Since I download a lot of stuff though, I need to find a way to have the Internet connection automatically disconnect and reconnect at 02:00 AM and then get disconnected at 08:00 AM. Is there any way to get this done?
Putting my Mac to sleep and have it automatically wake up at 02:00 AM won’t work because the Internet connection will still remain connected on the Time Capsule and I will still get charged for the nighttime downloading. Is there any way to have my Time Capsule do the job for me—some Automator script or something, perhaps?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.How would that help though? I need the Internet connection to be reset, so that a new session starts after 02:00 AM, which will then be counted among the happy hours and won’t be chargeable. Restricted my Mac from accessing the wireless network is not the solution here.

You would not be able to add calendar entries in the Contacts Bar Screen. Contacts Bar Screen will only be having details of the Contact & settings, Log details of the Contact. -
Any way to get out of connect to iTunes screen without restoring factory settings?
I accidentally started the newest update before backing up to iCloud. Now I have the connect to iTunes screen and can't get around restoring to factory settings. Is there anything I can do to bypass this step? Or undo upgrade?

AS you have tagged this post with iOS 6.1.3 and iMessages it is difficult to tell whether you want the answer for iPhone or iPad.
iMessages can do groups or multi-person Conversations as long as you enter the names in the "To" field before your start typing the message.

If you mean in the Messages app an AIM Buddy list can do Groups chats.
Jabber Buddy lists vary according to the set up of the server involved.
You don't have to turn Off the iMessages ability.
You either start from a Buddy List or select Buddies in the Blue + icon drop down.

is there any way to get the server app other than through the app store. The system that I need it on are not connected to the internet.
We run a closed-loop network of apple systems and I tipically downloaded updates on a non-apple system that was on the internet.
Any ideas?I did buy the server app, went to the app store to download it. This system I'm using for downloads is Snow Leopard 10.6.8, it shows that I can download it but only as an Install which says I need 10.8. I can't seem to find a way for it to just download as a package or .dmg file so that I can copy it to DVD/CD or flash drive.

It would be nice to have all the previous albums I've uploaded to be listed in iPhoto and all the 100's of people I've already tagged would serve as a nice basis for the iPhoto face detection to learn who my friends are!This is an interesting workaround, but misses the spirit of the original post. I don't know a way to get iPhoto '09 to recognize existing FB albums, but I agree that this is a serious problem with iPhoto '09.
The iPhoto '09 Facebook and Flickr uploaders have one "cool" feature - they automatically sync iPhotos events with FB "albums" or Flickr "sets", so if you make changes to the photos in iPhoto, then those changes are reflected in the photos on FB and Flickr automagically (this has been working for me in FB but not in Flickr). The more I use this the more I think it's more trouble than it is useful and I wish I could turn it off and just use the old exporters without syncing.
There are problems with the exporters:
(1) the constant syncing with FB/Flickr can get annoying if you're making several changes, if you have a slow internet connection or slow computer.
(2) If you don't actually want the changes to be reflected in the FB/Flickr album (i.e. i delete photos out of iPhoto to make room on my disk for more photos and now the photos are deleted out of facebook) can get not as user friendly as the original Facebook and Flickr exporter was easier and more user-friendly.
(3) syncing is cool for a computer programmer to do, but what if users don't want it all the time? What if I don't want my Facebook albums to be exactly the same as my iPhoto albums, and I don't want to split out all the photos that I don't want on Facebook into separate events in iPhoto? This lack of support for the truly useful & user friendly (if a bit boring) features is a really unfortunate oversight.
(3a) in the old version: i can quickly and easily choose exactly which photos from which events I want to upload to FB.
(3b) as the original questioner mentioned: I can choose whether to upload to into a *new or existing album*. Hands down, this was *the single best feature* of the previous uploaders.
(in Flickr this is of paramount importance since the free Flickr account only allows 3 "sets" - so, since this fancy iPhoto syncing links your events to sets in Flickr, you'd have to create 3 massive Flickr-only events in iPhoto in order to stay within their restrictions. I like to keep my iPhotos events separate, but I'm perfectly happy uploading photos from different events into one of my three Flickr sets. i'm pretty sure i can still do this with FFXporter or similar.)
(3b) in the old version: all the photos i upload are put into a "pending" album on FB so that I can tag people, delete some photos (without deleting them off my own iPhoto), etc. before sharing them with all my friends. I'd like to have at least the option to choose whether they go into a pending album first or not.
(3c) it's further annoying that you cannot browse your iPhoto library directly (from most websites) when searching for photos to upload, you have to export the files first, then browse to where the photos were exported. -

I need to obtain an image's attributes such as dimensions (height, width in pixels) without placing image in indesign document.
I have full path of the image (say abc.jpg is stored at c:\my pic\abc.jpg).
I have obtained the IDFile for this image, tried getting size using GetFileSize() which correctly return size in bytes.
Is there any way to get the height/width of image without importing it in the indesign document.
Please, give me some hints. I have spent quite a lot time digging in CHM. I have searched in FileUtils, IDFile API's but found no method which serves this purpose.
At this point I am clueless where to search next.
Any help will be appriciated.

D.You might be able to examine the contents of the PlaceGun after calling kImportAndLoadPlaceGunCmdBoss without actually placing the image in a document. Not sure, but would be worth looking at.
Otherwise you will probably have to write platform specific code, ideally with a generic platform-independant wrapper (see SDKSamples/paneltreeview/PlatformFileSystemIterator).
For the Mac, look at CGImageGetWidth() etc., not sure what the best option is for windows.
Perhaps Quicktime could provide you with a platform independant solution. -

Your best bet would be to create a web page of your own for the app. Design that page so that it uses 'META REFRESH' to redirect the visitor straight to the App Store link.
That way you can hard-wire your own web page address into your app.
This has the advantage that it can work well even before you've noticed that your app has arrived on the App Store. Create a real web page, describing the app and telling people to search for it in the App Store by name - then replace it with the auto-redirect page when you've discovered your application's App Store address. -
