Nokia 1020 - make Bluetooth discoverable?

Hello, i have a Nokia 1020 and have just bought a 2014 Mustang and want to pair my phone to the Sync system in the car. The instructions in the car's manual say to turn on the phone's bluetooth and make it discoverable. I have turned it on but see no option to make it discoverable. The system in the car scans for it and after a minute or so says 'no phone'. According to Ford and Microsoft, the 1020is compatible with the Sync system, but it has to be made discoverable.
Don't know if this matters, but the phone has upgraded to Windows 8.1.
Any ideas?

The phone is invisible and thus cannot be paired with anything - until you go into that menu on the phone which unhides BT.
I have problems to follow that argument: You have to go for that Bluetooth menu, because Bluetooth is not turned on when you unpack your phone. However, I am not sure about that short-cut in the notification bar – I would expect it to open the Bluetooth menu with first use. I have to double-check, there could be a usability issue.

Not aware of anything like that.
If you have concrete examples, please, report to Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, and here.

the user *chooses* when it is visible, does what is needed, and then hides it.
The question remains why, because I am not aware of any case which requires this. I was surprised as you, that there is no Bluetooth visibility switch. However, then I recalled my experience: I never ever wanted to change Bluetooth visibility except because I had to. Or stated differently: If is works automatically, as it does right now, I do not loose any functionality – I even gain functionality because I do not have to hurry (time-based Bluetooth visibility) or I do not have to remember about it at all (all-time visibility). That was a great learning experience for me actually: Because everyone does it and because it is done for years, even since day one, something might not be the best software usability.

Can not transfer contacts from Nokia 1020 Windows Phone to Mercedes C. Windows Phone states that it is only voice connection when trying to transfer data, and if sharing, Mercedes will not show up as bluetooth device at all. However Merceds show Noika as a device. I tried other phones and they work, smart phones and not smart phones. What to do?

  • How do I turn on my wireless keyboard and make it 'discoverable'?  I got a message that the batteries were low, so I changed them for new ones and now the keyboard doesn't work.

I got a message saying that the batteries were low, so changed them for new ones and now the keyboard cannot be 'found'. There seems to be no way to turn it on and make it 'discoverable' to the system.  At the moment I'm typing this on a spare keyboard plugged into the  back of my mac via a USB.  Please help!

Have you checked to make sure the batteries are inserted the correct way? Have you tried to turn it on by pushing the right upper (round) edge of the keyboard - if you do that, do you see a tiny little green light? Since you have a wired keyboard, can you get to the Bluetooth setup/preference pane so you can manually try to sync the keyboard?

  • Nokia 1020 for aerial photography and problems

    Hello friends
    I need help.
I am planning to use Nokia 1020 for aerial photography purpose but thinking of possible problems which will come on my way.
    1. How can I get the live feed from my Nokia 1020 on to the screen on ground ?
We have setup for getting the av out from other cameras but before buying lumia I want to make sure that it also works the same way.
    Any clue ?

Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your problems.
It' could be that your device suffers from some kind of hardware failure which just happened to occure after updating your phone. If it seems to be related to you moving the device, putting it down and then it reboots - it could be loose contacts. In that case you will have to get it replaced or repaired. If it's within warranty - you could either return it to the place you bought it from to make them handle the warranty case through Nokia - or visit a Nokia care point straight away.
What I would do if it does not seem clear it's a hardware failure, is to back up everything I need, and then reinstall the current firmware with Nokia software recovery tool.
Then I would try using it for some time without reinstalling 3rd party apps to see if it still occurs. If it just happens after installing some 3rd party app - it's likely triggering something or it's badly written and causing the issue.
If it however can't be blamed upon any 3rd party service. You will need to have it repaired.

  • Why iPad can not see Nokia BH-505 bluetooth headphone?

Nokia BH-505 bluetooth headphone has all the bluetooth profile that iOS supports.
But, my new iPad can not see it. HTC's sensation can pair with the BH-505.
Apples tooth is different from that of Android or they do not have tooth?

    It works for me too.
Just going a little bit further in the step 2, push down the TURN ON/OFF button for about 8 seconds.
I'm saying it because I also have a Nokia BH 504 and the reset process is realized by hold the ANSWER/END CALL and VOLUME UP buttons about 8 seconds. That makes me a little bit confused with Nokia BH 505.

  • Nokia 1020 lumia camera issue (and flashlight X)

    Hello!
I do not know this absolutely but I noticed after I downloaded a couple of updates, including an update to Flashlight X, on my nokia 1020 that it suddenly started taking pictures on its own back to back with out stopping. The phone also got warm and the battery would deplete.
This was all a couple of days ago. Since, I have deleted the Flashlight x app and this camera problem seems to have gone away.
So far so good. Again its just a hypothesis.
    Best,
    Jay

hi mate, in this case you will need to contact the developer of the app, as we are a user to user forum only for Nokia products and services.

  • My nokia 1020 goes off if I put it in my pocket.l

I bought a Nokia 1020 4 days ago. Since then it goes off when I put it in my pocket. It refuses to be on until l reboot it using the volume down and power button.

Hi, ksuksu. Welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions. Can we have your phone's current software version? Have you tried to reset it? Settings > about > reset your phone. As this will delete all your stored data, we recommend creating a backup file:
    http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/how-to/wp8/settings-and-personalization/back-up-my-stuff
Since this is a newly purchased phone, you may consider coordinating this matter with the retailer and askabout their store policy.

  • All my contacts in Nokia 1020 is deleted

My new Nokia 1020 has deleted all my contact. And I can't add a new contact either.
I just get a warning when I try to add another contact, 'that my Hotmail-contacts are hidden from the list at the moment'.
My Hotmail contact are only mail addresses, those I don't want in my phone diary anyway. So that is ok.
Anyone that can tell me how to get my phonebook / contact working again on my 1020?

  • Photo - Nokia 1020: how the best camera phone in t...

    Dear Nokia,
I am a huge photo addict and i cannot tell u how excited i was when i first lay my hands on the famous 41Mpx of the nokia 1020. Still - this camera phone became the worst - especially with the nokia black OS update.
With Nokia black update i choose to finally take my high res pix into the .DNG format.
The previous settings (34Mp JPEG) was not satisfactory as clearly the jpeg compression in the phone was not good enough.
Now that i take 41Mpix .DNG files - here are my issues :
    - No way to retrieve the original 41Mpx that to plug a USB cable to my PC (come on - we are getting to 2014!)
    - No way to watch my brand new raw pictures as .DNG is unsupported by Win8 (i needed to download an Adobe .DNG codec that still does not display thumbnail correctly in Win Explorer - but at least i can open them)
    - No way to share my high res pictures : as neither SkyDrive, nor Flickr or any website do accept .DNG files uploaded
    - Even when i convert my .dng file to uncompressed .jpeg or .png... well once uploaded to SkyDrive, the thumbnail created by SkyDrive is recompressing the pictures and showing the ugly pixel squares in the skies i wanted to avoid.
    - the Low Res 5 Mpix of my pictures - i can share wirelessly anywhere - but they all look worse than any average phone picture (iPhone 4S would do an 8 Mpix of any pictures)
So i have got a hard time to understand your strategy here : why anyone would shift from high res .jpeg (12Mb per pictures) to high res .dng (41 Mb per picture!) on a 32Gb storage phone... if none of this pictures can be watched on a PC or decently shared on the internet ???
At least you could have tried better by adopting a more compatible format like .RAW ?
Unhappy customer   (who would have loved to praise the 1020 and ditch his iPhone forever...)
    Pierre-Eric

DNG images are supposed to be processed and edited before sharing. The format is owned by Adobe which would be why you need their codec/applications.
I would suggest you teach yourself the basics of photo editing and composition as from your remarks it would seem you expect expert results to happen as if by magic which will not happen. You images will only be as good as your imagination and creativity.
Stay on processed and auto mode if you feel you are not able to properly deal with DNG files as this is not as easy as many seem to think. DNG mode _depends_ on you doing the processing of the images and knowing what you are doing and how to do it.

  • Nokia 1020 wireless charging

    Hey guys
I will be buying the Nokia 1020 with the wireless charging cover soon. I just want to know if this phone will be compatiable with a QI wireless car holder/charger.
    It's one of these:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QI-Wireless-Car-Charger-Pad-Holder-for-Phone-Nokia-Lumia-920-820-HTC-8X-/1...
It says it supports a samsung galaxy note 3 so it much be able to fit a Nokia 1020 in, tried contacting the seller; no help. They just sent me the same compatible list that is on the product description.
I think it will work but I don't get why they don't mention it, they mention all the phones that doesn't come with a genuine wireless charging. Like iphone doesn't support wireless charging, some company made them specially for them.
Anyway, I just want your opinion.
    Thanks.

Unfortunately Nokia does not have access to retailers stocks so you will need to contact retailers directly for that information. You'll probably find that if you visit a large mall you'll find plenty of stores selling them.

  • Nokia 1020: browse through apps without touching t...

    Hello,
Last couple of days my Nokia 1020 starts browsing through all the apps randomly without me touching the screen. Music starts, photo app is opening, etc.. If I go back to the home screen, it starts again and it freeze after a while. The only think I can do is to restart (power key and volume down). Nothing on the screen is responding.
The screen is not dirty and does not have any visible damage, the problem started out of nowhere.
    Any tips?
    Thank you,
    Cristian

Welcome to the forum, @CChie. Let's try other fixes with your phone. See: http://bit.ly/1vTc1Xr. We'd appreciate any feedback from you about the outcome of doing the provided troubleshooting steps in the link. All the best!
Good day, @Patonthenet. Are you experiencing the same issue as Cchie? By the way, we saw your post entitled "Cyan Update FAULT". Is that issue resolved now? We look forward to your reply.

  • Nokia 1020 repairs? Quality of device?

I have had a Nokia 1020 for less than a week, and already the chassis is scuffed from being in my pocket (on its own) and I just dropped it out of my hand on to my desk (a fall of approx. 20cm) and the glass in the corner of the screen is chipped.
If my rubber case had arrived yet this probably wouldn't have happened which I am annoyed about, but serious a phone should be able to withstand THAT without damage.
Is there anything I can do?
I'd have thought being in Finland would give me good customer service, but their phone number basically says "go to the website" and online chat support says it is open between 9.00 and 17.00 (it is 14.28 right now), except public holidays (which it isn't today) ... and it is closed.
Horrible feeling I have made a terrible mistake going back to Nokia after my awful experience with the N8

You are so right. Put the best smartphone camera on earth in a device that is fragile. I was on one knee doing yard you, mine fell about 1.5 ft and glass cracked. I have Assure Service contract. Store offered me $340 credit so I pay $245 to move up to a 1520, 1020 no longer available AND pay $49 deductible. I decided to just go out and find the best repair shop I can, repair the GORILLA glass and get and extremely protective case. Anybody know of a good repair shop in Houston? Oh, BTW, MS store tech said Nokia glass is trickier than most to repair. That's just great. Weak AND hard to fix, good combo. At least I'll get to keep the banging 41 MP camera.
