Nokia 2600 classic - how do I get the back cover o...

I have just bought my first mobile phone ever, so am a complete novice; I have tried to follow the instructions to press the release button and take off the back cover to fit the battery, but I cannot get the cover to open.
The main question is, am I trying to open the phone at the right end - i.e. if the phone is face down, the end nearest to the loudspeaker?
I am loathe to use an implement on the phone in case I damage the case.
Any advice would be very welcome - I feel so stupid!
Thank you.

nothing to be ashamed of, we all have problems with certain phones sometimes.
the back cover of the 2600 is quite big and covers the whole back side plus sides of the phone that's why it's difficult sometimes to remove.
the release button is located at the top of the device , with the phone facing down press on that button, remeber that the body of the button is actually part of the body and not of the cover and so performs as a latch.
while pressing hard enough on that button you can fell that the button goes in enough distance to clear the whole thickness of the back cover plastic. Now wedge your finger nail between the cover and the body anywhere at the top of the device, that should give you enough lift to release the upper part of the cover.
pull up and slightly backward to release the lower part of the cover.
for a diagramtic representation , please take alook at your user manual, available here:

• How do I get the back cover off?

Hey guys I just bough a new GE70 2PE Apache Pro (Ge70 2PE-010US to be precise) and I want to add an SSD to it. How do I get the back cover off so I can open it up?

I figured it out. What was stumping me is that there's a screw under the god dam "Warranty Sticker."
By the way, I am not happy that MSI made the retarded decision to replace the Windows Context Menu keyboard key with a second "\" key and move it next to the space bar. There's already a "\" key on the keyboard, MSI; Why the hell would I want two of them? Any idea how to rectify this idiocy?
I've never really use this Windows Context Menu key.. so this never bothers me.
but think you can ask why they have this design, I don't really notice it until you bring it up.
I remember they have a online system.

3710 How do I get the back cover off?
I had it off once to put the battery in; now it appears to be stuck.
I 'm trying to follow the pictorial instructions, but it is not budging.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

We used 3 hands
Two thumbs placed according to manual.
Then at the same time by pushing with a fingernail at the end of the cover (from you third hand) from the direction of the camera it should come of easily.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
*Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
Another possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

• How do I get the Back Button drop down menu back?

When surfing in a tab there used to be a drop down menu next to the forward and back buttons. It was a little tiny triangle looking arrow. This was really useful and needed. It is gone in Firefox 4 as far as I can see. I am using the default 4.0 Theme. If it is not there anymore I will have to go going back to 3.16 if the drop down menu is gone. Thanks for any help.

''How do I get the Back Button drop down menu back?''
* "'''Back/forward dropmarker'''" extension
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/backforward-dropmarker/
I do prefer Right-click on tab for tab history, or hold a couple of seconds, as the drop-down marker takes up space and had been removing it myself. Although I think it should have been an option.

• Cannot get the back cover off 6300!!

Hi people,
I know this must have been asked before.
I've certainly read it elsewhere on the internet and followed the instructions diligently to no avail.
I got the back cover to my 6300 off once but I can't seem to do it again.
I have slid and pushed and pulled and stroked until I think I am going to do serious damage to my hands which I cannot afford because I am a musician.
I have tried to cool the phone down, or jimmy it open... nothing works.
I just want to get the back cover off to put a memory card in and open the usb slot properly but I seriously cannot do it and all my family have tried too.
I bought it online, so I am reluctant to go to a shop and ask for help but at this rate I will have to.
Please offer any help you may have!!
Thank you

It should just slide off.
Sometimes it does need a little gentle persuasion but it should be quiet easy.
The cover slides downwards, press firmly in the middle of the back cover and push it downwards towards the bottom of the phone.
If you are still unable to do it, then you'll need to find someone to help.

• How do I GET THE BACK OFF THE G4?

My grandaughter used the optical slot for a piggy bank. I need to get the back off the G4 to get the coins out. Anyone know what too you use?
Susan

Dear Susan,
Many thanks for the clarification! We can work with that.
The illustrated guides for taking apart G4 iBooks are here:
http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iBook_G4
They show four different models based on processor speed but I think getting to the optical drive is about the same for all of them. Still, select the guide that matches your processor speed (available by doing "About this Mac" from your Apple menu) and, when that guide comes up, click the "optical drive" section.
Looks very complex so you may need third-party help. Apple considers the iBooks "vintage" and will no longer work on them in an Apple retail store. However, most Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASP) will work on older units subject to parts availability. Use this link to find one:
https://locate.apple.com/
I'm not sure about cost but a friend had a MacBook Pro with a failed slot-loading optical drive and an AASP quoted him about US$150 parts and labor--and that was several years ago.
There is a separate forum here for the iBooks that may have more info on revivinig the drive, but I dont see a way to get around the complex takeapart shown in the guides I linked.
iBook forums
Best wishes for getting the iBook back to normal. They are nice computers. Another friend ran one well beyond any reasonable expected service life and it was still going when he upgraded to a newer Intel Mac.
Please post back if you have any more questions!

• How can I remove the back cover for my ipod?

I need to remove the cover because my ipod seems to be suffering from a hardrive problem. It used to just cycle through all the songs in a playlist or randomly play 5 seconds and skip to the next song, but now it just makes a whirring noise when I try to turn it on and cannot get past the apple logo.
Sometimes I get the little unhappy ipod logo and the support website but thats it.
Iv tried going into diagnostic mode and attempting to run a few tests. It failed a USB test in this mode so i think that may be one of the problems with it.
Does anyone know of a fool proof way of removing the case so I can dis/reconnect the harddrive?
Windows XP

Before you remove the back cover of your iPod - which will loss the warranty
Read the following
he Sad iPods icon or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
- I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
- I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
- I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
10.Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this

I bought a HD TV show accidently instead of SD, it will not load or play on my ipod classic. How do i get this reformatted or what to get the show on my ipod?

To prevent HD versions from being downloaded in the future head to the iTunes Store, click the Purchased link, and then select TV Shows and remove the tick mark next to Download HD when available. You should be able to download the SD version now from under this same page.

• How do I get the back button in Safari to work again?

The back button stopped working. I can only refresh the page. To go back I need to go up to History, and click back. I loved it when the back button worked. Any suggestions? I have a MACBook and Leopard

For any of you who have had this problem... here is the real solution. On the upper task bar, Go to VIEW, open up CUSTOMIZE TOOL BAR, find the FORWARD AND BACK ARROWS and DRAG THEM UP TO WHERE THEY BELONG. How did they disappear?..... some accidental combination of keystrokes deleted them, I don't remember what that was. End of story and I am sticking to it

• After my update to version 4, the back button now only seems to store the last page I was on rather than the last 10 like it used to before the update. I've scoured the options menu to no avail. How can I get the back button working like it used to?

The back button used to work many times before it would reach the end of its list of pages I had been to recently and became greyed out, but now it will only work once before this happens. Also, the list of pages that pops up when I right click it now only has two entries no matter how many pages I've visited on that tab, the page I am currently on and the page I most recently left. Previous to the installation of the update to version 4 however, the list that appeared when I right clicked on the back button contained up to 10 items.

Try the Firefox SafeMode.
''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most other Add-ons.''
# You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
# Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.
