Nokia 301 - worked 5 minutes

Hey guys,
I just bought a Nokia 301, after starting it up for the first time and knowing with all the bugs that are on the forum, I decided to updatet it to latest firmware. It downloaded the update, went onto installing it, and after it I got a white screen and after that the phone went dead. I left around 30 minutes, thinking it was working on the background, took the battery out, put it back again, plugged it in the charger but still nothing.
Holding the power button sometimes it vibrates, but in other cases it's just a black screen in a black plastic case... I contacteted the service and they promissed an exchange phone in 2 weeks...
I am just wondering if there is any chance to turn the phone on, or I have to wait for the replacement phone? I didn't even made a call with it, like I said it worked for 5 minutes.
This is far the worst ever experience I ever had with a phone, so far the record was with a Motorola that lasted 4 hours.

yep, unfortunately the only option would be to take the phone to the a Nokia Care service point (or the shop where you bought it) and get it either reflashed or replaced.
could you send me the phone IMEI number via private message? That would help us to investigate whether there is something wrong with the update package you downloaded.

    Have you checked for duplicates and what storage you are using,Use only one storage,either phone or sim.

  • Nokia 301 icon issues following latest update

    I have got a Nokia 301 which usually works fine.
    I`ve just updated the phones software to the latest version. My problem is: -
    When I click on the Mail icon, nothing happens. So I can`t see my email account I added.
    Is there a way of sorting this out?

    I have previously deleted the email account and then added it back in.
    The problem this time is when i click on the Mail Icon, it doesn't open up.
    I don't really want to do a factory reset. If i have to i will.
    I just wandered if there was a way of bypassing the Mail Icon to access my email account, or deleting the icon and reinstalling it.

  • Nokia 301 app store problems

    I have a problem with the Nokia Store app in my Nokia 301 (single SIM) RM-841 v.8.02 S40 phone. It's an unlocked phone.
    I opened the store app and it said there was a required update. I said yes and it updated. However, after that, the Nokia Store app doesn't work properly and hangs, and it also displays the icon with a key over it. The Nokia internet doesn't work properly either after the store app update.
    I tried to use the recovery tool wich I downloaded from Microsoft. I installed it, connected the phone with the appropiate USB cable, followed the instructions. The recovery tool detected my phone but after that, it just doesn't seem to work and it says installation failed and gets stuck at 10%.
    What can I do to solve and/or fix the issue to be able to use the Nokia Store app again and the Nokia internet browser.
    I have Windows 7 of 64bit.
    Can anyone help me?

    On the first (differ), you have to say YES, or the download does not work.
    On the second (keep), depends on the app. However, I go for NO usually.
    The built-in apps do not have the download URL embedded, when you first update. Furthermore, even the next updates are going to show that warning because the webserver scripts redirect while updating. Therefore, this message. Botching. This is actually a software-bug in the app and webserver scripts. With one experienced computer scientist, this would not have happened.
    If you do not keep the data, you start all over – except for apps which store your data online, like the Nokia Store. If you start over, you make sure, you do not have RMS with unexpected settings. This is important, if you used an already updated app, which FOTA downgrades. Because you do not know, if FOTA downgraded an app, NO is the safe way. We saw that with Nokia Xpress on some models. Anyway, again, a software-bug because apps can be designed to handle unknown/future settings easily. Botching.

  • Nokia 301 random crash

    My Nokia 301 crashes and reboots randomly when I make a call or shoot a photo.
    It freezes, goes white-screen, and reboots. Seems the crash occurs more times when I use a bigger-sized wallpaper (I mean data size) or shoot a more-colourful photo.
    I have updated to firmware v2.51, battery is fine. Currently no more crash when calling, but often crashes when shooting a photo. I went to shoot natural scences like flowers, grass and sky. The phone crashed agian and again.
    Maybe the phone has trouble handling complex images?
    BTW, after I updated to v2.51, when I try to download SW update again, it always says "404" before any other message is displayed.

    I have to same problem with camera and like your problem freeze just when the photo is big size.
    Nooooookia, I want UPDATE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I buy this phone for 3.15 MP camera and camera not working. How is this posible ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nokia 301 problem - service messages / balance enq...

    I bought a Nokia 301 mobile for one of my relatives at Christmas and am having such problems with it on Sainsbury's Mobile.
    I popped the SIM card in, expecting the internet setting to be sent by text - but nothing. Then to make matters worse, every time I call to ask for a balance - it displays text as a service message that is completely unreadable!  Like it is full of nonsensicle characters.
    I'm just lost as to what's wrong with it. Even if I could find the internet settings but Sainsbury's website is useless. The balance enquiry is a real problem though - could it be a SIM card problem?
    Any help much appreciated!!

    Receiving those settings automatically is not normal especially for big carriers like Vodafone. Not sure about Vodafone UK. Actually, your carrier could change one tiny piece in their global settings and a Nokia would work instantly. Anyway, Sainsbury’s says: ‘If you don’t receive the settings within 24 hours of activating your SIM, text WEB to 40127 for free’.

    OK. That is USSD. Because you cannot do anything wrong, like a wrong setting, this is a bug. Here in Nokia Support Discussions, we cannot fix such a bug. Therefore, you should report to the mentioned parties because only those have a chance to fix that bug. Not a solution but as a workaround, please, check your balance via the computer-voice at 40775.

  • Transfer app for nokia 301

    Hi!
    I purchased a nokia 301 device. I would like to transfer my contacts from my old phone, a nokia 700. I would like to install the Transfer app but I do not have a data connection, there is no wifi in this device and of course neither nokia suit nor nokia pc suit recognize nokia 301. So is there a way i could install this app on my phone, so i can transfer my contacts?

    eliakwu, scoobyman is right, because Symbian and Series 40 devices offer Bluetooth SyncML (OMA DS). Nokia Transfer is about Windows Phone, Android and iPhone devices because those only offer Bluetooth PBAP.
    Another way would be a SyncML service on the Internet, like GMail, because then you can transfer your contacts and with some SyncML services even your calendar items. However, you stated you do not like Internet.

    PC Suite works after installing the latest Connectivity Driver. Furthermore, do not select the ‘sync and connect’ USB mode because this is PTP. Instead, select the modem mode (USB CDC WMC  and ACM). Then, the PC Suite works for several other users on this board. Of course the Map Loader and the Software Updater do not work. Although I am not sure whether the PC Sync feature is enabled. As I do not own a Nokia 310 myself, can anyone else confirm that?

  • Whatsapp on Nokia 301

    Hi Nokia
    I bought this dual-sim fone a week back and like it so far. But I am not able to find whatsapp on the nokia store. Also on the whatsapp website, its not listed in the "supported phones" yet. I am wondering if Nokia is currently working on it. 
    btw the nokia website mentions "whatsapp" in the features section of this fone, so I am kindof feeling cheated at this point :-|

    don´t get me wrong... by simple i meant something with a "keyboard" on it.. i found that touch displays aren´t the best for working... i use a Samsung Galaxy s1 and i have to drive a lot with the car... its a bit awkward to use a touch phone while driving.. cause the speech control (or how this will be called in english) is stupid as hell. To exept a call u have to twiddle a lot with the mobile phone.. there is no possibilty to start the call with an activatet speaker right away...

  • Nokia 301 v8.02 update 3G problem

    Hello
    So after the update same thing happened as before with 2.51 update. No 3G!
    2G works and factory reset doesn't help. What is the deal with this?

    After I updated my Nokia 301.1 to version 08.02, it's basically a piece of junk now!!
    Who is in charge of this???
    The phone doesn't work at all.
    It loses it's connectivity randomly all the time.
    It isn't able to send or recieve a textmessages.
    Batterylife is completely rubbish now. Before I could have it for up to 7 days without charging. Now it loses it's batterylife after 1 single day!! How is this an improvement???
    The same decrease in batterylife happened after the last update! Then the batterylife decreased from 10 days to 7 days. Please stop trying to fix a phone that was all right out of the box, but after 2 updates, it's completely useless!!!!

    I tried to reset it to factory settings, nothing changed.
    I live in Norway.
    I use OneCall as my operator.
    The code on the sticker on the back says: 059Q8X2

  • Nokia 301 won't start up

    When I switch my Nokia 301 off, it won't start up again.
    To get it to start, I have to remove the battery for more than 10 minutes, plug it into a charger for an hour or so, and then it will start up.
    If I try to turn it on soon after plugging the charger in, the screen flashes brightly and then switches off, and I have to start again by taking the battery out.
    Could this be solved with a new battery, or resetting or reflashing the phone, or is there something more serious wrong with the electronics?

  • Nokia 301 Media player

    Hy guys,
    i have a big problem..for me.. in my job, i have to answer the phone and take the order. For this, i need to record the call, and later i have to give the order to the other colleagues. On my previous phones, x2-00, 6300, in the middle of the call can play the recorded files. On my new Nokia 301 its imposible. Error "Not alowed".
    Its very important to me this .
    Why ?
    If this is the media player built, i don't understand their logic. If i recorded a call its have to be able to play.

    Consequently, this feature broke either with HD-Voice (AMR-WB) or with 3G (UMTS). Has anyone tried with a Nokia 208, because that has 3G like the Nokia 301 and Nokia 515. If it works ina Nokia 208, the cause might be AMR-WB.

  • Nokia 301-1 - no outgoing mail possible/config imp...

    I work for a Belgian Telecomoperator. One of our cmrs cannot configure his mail on his new Nokia 301-1 handset.
    To be clear, all data(login, passw., mailservers,ports,...) is correct, I verified them myself with the cmr and I also configured his mailadress on a Nokia Lumia without any problems.
    * in the config. we deactivated "authentification compulsory" - else we could not complete config.
    Once the mail is configured. Receiving mails is ok, but when trying to send one we get error message:
    "unexpected error".

    Ah, ok I misunderstood your question as this is quite common with us.
    His incoming mailserver is dependant of his mailprovider, being VOO. His mobile subscription is with another operator, Mobistar. So when he's sending mails(outgoing mailserver) he uses the mobistar network and thus the Mobistar outgoing mailserver, being gprsmail.mobistar.be(which used to be SMTP.mobistar.be).

  • Nokia 301 new update v9.04 received today

    Hello,
    My handset : Nokia 301 (RM-839)
    I am From India.. today when I checked, I see new update.  Downloaded and installed successfully.
    version is v9.04.  I am unable to find details about change log.
    Can anyone provide the same. 
    Everything is working fine.  I received WhatsAPP preinstalled but mistakely I deleted that.  But I want it back.  Can someone help in this too.
