Nokia 3120 Classic - restoring display menu

I was recently personalizing my Nokia 3120 classic and was trying to see what I preferred regarding the display (essentially the home screen).  When I pressed the 'up' navigation button and then 'options' to changes what was displayed, I set all parts of the display to empty (when I first bought it, it was populated with a line of application/function icons - left to right in the top-most row, the date and time in the second row and 'notes' in the third row).
Now I can't get anything back, and none of the Menu functions allow me to make any changes to this part of the display.  Restoring factory settings does not restore this either.  There is no intuitive way for this to work on the 'home' screen as the options function doesn't exist any more (emptying the rows has removed the function altogether).
There is nothing to direct a fix in the user manual either.
Can anyone help?

  • Nokia 3120 classic display settings

    Hi!
The "Nokia 3120 classic User Guide" (9207764, Issue 3) in chapter 6. Settings -> Display says:
Sleep mode -- to save battery power, the display turns black when no function of the phone is used for a certain time
If I understand correctly the purpose of that option, when it is set to on it should turn off the back light of the display when the phone is not used for some time (a few seconds). By default that option is enabled.
I tried to disable that option (set it to off) but nothing changed -- the display light turns off very quickly, which is very annoying for example when reading/writing messages. To prevent the display light to turn off you need to press a key every few seconds.
I also tried to disable the "power saver" option in the display settings but I didn't notice any difference either.
IMHO, there is a bug in the phone firmware regarding those options. Moreover I thing that user should be able to change the time interval after which the display light is turned off in the sleep mode.
Another issue with that phone behavior: Using an analog or digital clock as a screen saver (Settings -> Display -> Screen saver) is quite convenient because the default digital clock in top right corner of the display uses very small font. When the keyboard is locked, the screen saver activates after a few seconds of inactivity (that time interval should be adjustable too), but the display light turns off also, which is OK when the keyboard is locked. Now the question is how to turn on the display light (to see the clock in the screen saver) without turning off the screen saver at the same time? Currently you have to do the following:
    (1) press one of the navigation keys in order to turn on the display light
    (2) wait a few seconds in order to activate the screen saver
    The firmware version used is:
    V 07.16
    27-05-08
    RM-364
    Any comments?
    -- rpr.

Can someone from Nokia please response to this thread? The lack of control over the display light duration is a huge disadvantage of the 3120. It sounds like a small issue, but it is really not. I would recommend anyone who is interested in the 3120 NOT to get it, for this exact reason.

  • Maximum size for JAR files on Nokia 3120 Classic

I am trying to download and install a java app for a Nokia 3120 classic, but when installing I get an error message telling me that the file is too big at 5.7mb.
I can't find the maximum size of .jar files for this phone anywhere.
Can anyone let me know what this is and whether there is any way to get the app to work.
    Many thanks.
    Alan Watson

YES THERE IS A WAY!! I only got this information from someone else. Thanks for that person.
    Here are the steps:
    1. Download the jar file you want to install, to your computer. Now open My computer, and on the upper left corner you shall see a menu, click the "Tools" button and then click "Folder options..." A little window will appear. Click the "View" tab. On this window you need to find an option "Hide extentions for known file types" below "Advanced settings". Then unmark or uncheck the box.
    2. Now when you open my computer and go to the folder where you had downloaded the java file, the file name will read "(anyfilename).jar". HERE IS THE TRICK.
    3. Rename the last part of your file. Instead of .jar change it to .jpg so that it reads  "(anyfilename).jpg"
    4. Now copy the renamed file and paste it in your mobile's C: or Memory Card drive.
    5. Once you had pasted, rename the copied file back to what it was. i.e "(anyfilename).jar"
BASICALLY the phone limits a file with a ".jar" extention, you can fool it by renaming the extention to ".jpg" and then once the file is copied into the phones C:drive you can change the extention back to ".jar" by renaming it.
Share it. Hope it works for you! God bless...

  • Nokia 3120 classic (message received time is wrong...

Hi.. got some problems with my nokia 3120 classic. I bought my fone 2 wks ago and decide to upgrade my fone to new firmware version which is 7.16, after the fone was updated i noticed that whenever i received txt messages, the received time is wrong.. it is i think 8 hrs late.. I'm txting my friends and when they reply, the received time display is wrong. Is this a bug for the new version? It's not synchronizing in my phone clock. Of course my phone clock is ok.. Message sent time is ok but the received time is wrong. Any suggestions? Pls help..
    Solved!

ok.. i've figured out already the problem. it's not on the software update but it is due to the GMT. i noticed that even your dates and time are correct, you must set your correct timezone from what country you were. if the auto update time and date is on, i think it varies on the timezone u set on ur fone so if your timezone is wrong, the message receive time is wrong too. well i already solved this.

  • Nokia 3120 Classic rubish

I received my Nokia 3120 Classic 2 days ago and since receiving it I have been trying to get the Backlight to stay on for more than 2-3 seconds and have now decided it will not allow it to be changed this makes it the most RUBBISH phone ever produced and I have thrown it in the rubbish bin and will head down to my local phone store tomorrow and pick up a Sony Ericsson or something (Definitely not a Nokia ever again.
My last phone a Nokia E65 I had to get rid of because it would always drop out of lock and end up phoning people in my pocket also it cut off incoming calls when you tried to remove phone from pocket and you inadvertently touched a button. What the hell has happened to Nokia they were once great now they are just **bleep** (don't care if they remove this or gets flamed as now no longer interested in anything Nokia so won't be back)

NSU stands for the Nokia Software Updater (you will find the link to download it here) But right nw i saw that you device is yet not compatible . In that case if your phone needs a firmware update then nokia care centre is the only way out. But, before that try all possible things sujjested by other users.
In case you would like to knw what are the risks involved while updating via NSU, your phone needs to be fully charged. In case the device shuts off in between in process, your phone needs a care centre job after that.you also need to back up your files before using the pc suite and restore it when the update has been done.

  • Import messages from Nokia 3120 Classic to Nokia 2...

    Hello everyone.
I recntly bought a new Nokia 225 to replace a Nokia 3120 Classic.
I thought it would be esay to transfer contacts and messages from one to the other with the Nokia PC Suite.
Unfortunately, PC Suite doesn't seem to be able to manage the 225.
I can't imagine that it is not possible to transfer at least messages from 3120 to 225. It is very important to me because some of these messages come from departed friends and parents.
Do you know a method (that works!) to backup messages from my old 3120 and restore them to the new 225?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jean-Louis

Hello, jelodagh. The only option that you can do is to forward those messages to your Nokia 225. Note that the said phone model supports USB Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) mode. It means that you can only transfer media files between your computer and your phone. Let us know if you need further assistance.

  • Synch Gmail contacts on Nokia 3120 Classic

    Hi,
How can I synch the Gmail contacts with my Nokia 3120 Classic Mobile phone?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi jabhijeet,
Welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions!
Your phone doesn't support such functionality, but you can log into your social network accounts on your phone for you to be able to view their contact info.
Another option is to add your contacts manually. To do this, tap People > swipe to contacts and then follow the steps below:
Tap the Add (+) icon .
If you're signed in to several accounts, select the account to which you want to save the contact.
Add the contact details, and tap Save icon. Note that your contacts are backed up automatically to your Microsoft account.

  • Hard reset Nokia 3120 Classic

    Hello,
I have an old Nokia 3120 classic phone which I would like to use as my spare device however when I turn on this device it asks me for a security code, which I didnt set at all. Is there any other way to hard reset this device (other than going to the Service Centre, for which they would be charging exorbitant amounts anyway).

I have an Apple computer with ITunes . Is it possible to download the music files directly onto a micro SD card , then insert the  the card in the phone a listen to the music?. Nokia don't have Apple software , only PC software. Any way of doing this with music files on a Mac? Thanks

  • Nokia 3120 Classic won't disconnect from internet?

    Hi,
I was wondeirng if anyone can help me?
I've had my Nokia 3120 Classic for a month or so now, on the 3 network.
Whenever I load into Planet 3, to check my usage, read the news headlines, or I receive an MMS, I can connect to their internet fine, but no matter how long I leave it my phone does not disconnect.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to disconnect that I can't find?
Thanks in advance for any ideas or help!

I guessed it you were in planet 3 by just reading the subject.
    You are from Australia rite..
I believe you have a plan with 3 network which connects automatically to the internet.
If you call 3 they will ask you to call nokia and Nokia will not know what to do cause it is due to your network and push you back to 3.
The only way to get around this is to delete the access point of planet 3 in access points.
but you might have to request for the setting every time you wanna use the internet.
You might also have a problem deleting the access point as it will ask to disconnect first which you cant.
-So you might have to go offline (flight mode) and then delete the access point.
However if you do use the internet regularly then it might be an hassle to get the access points every time so instead of deleting the access point edit it so it does not get connected( maybe change the data beareror authentication but remember what you have changed ) so you can re-edit if you wanna use it.

  • Nokia 3120 Classic on Linux

    Hi all.
Have anyone got Nokia 3120 Classic (http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/devices/nokia-3120-classic)  running on Linux?
I wanna be able to do all that I'm able to do on Windows, but on Linux.  Is that possible?
Since I'll just run Linux, this is a crucial question in order to buy my new cell phone.
    Thank you very much.
    davi

You'll never be able to do absolutely everything on a mobile phone in Linux that you can using Windows or Mac software provided by the manufacturer. You will be able to do most, though.
The three things you usually end up doing while connected to the computer are:
    1) transferring files to/from the phone
    2) tethering the phone to the computer (uising it as a modem)
    3) synchronizing contacts, calendar etc. with the computer.
    1) is easy. You connect the phone in mass storage mode and it behaves like any other bog-standard device managed by the usb-storage module of your Linux kernel. It looks like an external hard disk or a pen drive. Alternatively you can transfer files via bluetooth using, for example, the KDE bluetooth client and server applications. I'm sure equivalents exist for GNOME.
    2) http://linux.sgms-centre.com/nokiafaq/mobile_broadband/
    3) is harder. Apparently you can use kmobiletools but I never did get it working and the software hasn't been updated for nearly 2 years. Personally, I use OVI sync to back up my contacts, calendar entries and notes online, and I have a backup to my memory card scheduled every day (you can't do the latter witn a 3120c AFAIK).

  • Nokia 3120 Classic and iSync

    Dear all,
I have a Nokia 3120 Classic and a fresh new MacBook Pro 2010.
I need to syncronize the contacts between the mobile phone and OsX. I tried with iSync, but the program said the mobile phone is not compatible. How can I solve this problem? Nokia does not have any support for Mac.
    Thank you, kind regards.

Nokia does not have any support for Mac.
Nokia has very good support for Mac users, in general:

If they don't have an iSync plugin for your phone, try this Google search:

  • Nokia 3120 Classic - Going Online

I own a Nokia 3120 Classic and have now figured out how to use it as a modem to connect my computer to the internet, for the purpose of downloading emails. This is very useful when I am on the move and don't have easy internet connection.
But I want to know if I can reverse the process when I am at home. What I would like to do is to connect the phone to the internet by connecting to the computer and using the computer's internet connection.
The computer (XP Service Pack 3), connects to a wi-fi router and I connect the phone to the computer with USB data cable.
I am aware that it is not possible to connect to the wi-fi router directly with this phone model.
    Looking forward to some advice.

Hi! i am not here to give you a solution. However, i want to know the way to use my 3120 classic as modem to Use Internet in my PC through my Phone. You might be aware that there is some problem saying that MODEM NOT FOUND. I have treid to find out the way but to no avail.
If you could mail me at [email protected] , the way to use 3120 Classic as modem, i'll be grateful to you.
