Nokia 5230 phone memory issue

Even after I clear all privacy from my web settings I still have low phone memory! Everything I download is saved 2 my memory card but no matter wot my phone memory status says:
Memory in use - 77mb
Free memory - 5192kb
Calendar - 5kb
Contacts - 36kb
Messages - 0
Images - 0
Sound files - 0
Video clips - 0
Documents - 31kb
MIDP apps - 0
SIS apps - 28mb
Other files - 49mb
What are those "Other files" & can they be deleted? As well as SIS apps, are the apps that can be uninstalled that wont affect my nokia's performance?
Can someone please help me with my problem?

Is Mail being pushed to your device?
Although it would be a pain necessitating backup of essential data first, you could always reset device to "Out of box" state by keying in *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by user).

  • Phone memory issue in Nokia E5

The phone memory of my E5 is decreasing day by day. Menu->Options->Memory Details->Main memory shows 135 MB files in Others section, but I am unable to view any such large files even using third party browser like Xplore. I do not have any pictures, songs or videos in phone memory neither any large applications (apart from the pre-installed apps). The firmware version is 042.014, will upgrading the firmware resolve my issue. Please suggest.

    Hi jimmyireland,
Thanks a lot for your quick reply...the solutions provided in the article helped to recover only a few MB of memory...but a huge amount around 133 MB is still being occupied by the Other Files which is not even viewable by Xplore or any other third party file browser and the volume of this Other Files keeps on incresing every day...I am afraid that one day it will consume the entire phone memory...unless Nokia comes up with a fix for the same very soon....

  • 5230-Phone memory vs Memory card memory

How to move messages from phone memory to memory card?
Because, in messaging - options- settings-other-memory in use- if i set it to memory cars, phone memory messages are hidden....so how to transfer them to memory card...
    Pl help

1: If you have Opera Mobile installed, Clear cache.
    2. If you have too many "Saved pages" in Opera Mobile, delete those.
    3. If you are using Opera Mini, change its "Saved Pages Location" to somewhere on memory card.
    4. If using Ovi Music, Clear cache.
If you have installed any other application which uses phone memory to store Temporary files change its location to memory card, if it allows you...
Also Go to Settings>application manager>installed apps>do you see a mini memory card icon on the right side of each application you installed?
If you don't see that icon that means they are installed on phone memory, uninstall them and reinstall on memory card. (please don't mind if you already know these thing, i am just trying to explain to make it clear if you don't know).
And the ultimate way to free up Maximum phone memory is to do a reset, which i'd recommend to do ONLY IF YOU WANT THE PHONE MEMORY BACK ON EVERY COST. Just ask if you don't know how to do that.

  • NOKIA 5230 CONTACTS & MEMORY CARD QUESTIONS

Hi, I have  hat may well turn out to be dumb questions. Aplogies in advance but not had the phone long.
Firstly, I have installed a new 4GB memory card, is there a way to name this? At the moment it shows as memory Card (No Name).
Secondly I have been trying to work out why all my contacts only show as mobile numbers. bellagio kindly offered me one solution which was to use the Telephone Dialler and create a new contact I would then get a menu offering the following options.
    Mobile
    Mobile (home)
    Mobile (business)
    Telephone
    Telephone (home)
    Telephone  (business)
    Car phone
    Fax
    Fax (home0
    Fax (business)
    Pager
    Assistant's number
I tried that but still only had the option for Mobile Phone. I also edited some with Nokia PC Suite but although these showed the numbers correctly as either Home or Mobile they didn't show correctly on the phone.
On reading some posts I came across one about transferring contacts from SIM to phone memory. This said to go to Contacts>Settings>Contacts to display and change it to either phone memory or phone memory and SIM (multiple memories).
When I did that I got several double entries, due no doubt to my having transferred the entries from my old phone straight to phone memory before copying them to the SIM.
I have always preferred to store my contacts on the SIM so that if I change my phone, because for example it goes faulty, I have them already stored.
DONT KNOW IF THIS IS BEST PRACTICE
It would seem, unless someone can tell me otherwise, that storing contacts on SIM doesn't give the same options.
I have my phone set to announce the incoming callers name if in my contacts but I have read somewhere that having dual entries i.e phone memory and SIM can stop this working. Is this correct? In which case which is best phone memory or SIM.
Lastly I have only played around with Voice Command but not had any joy. If for example I say Camera nothing happens.Have tried a couple of other commands but all to no effect.
Any help on any of the above would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
Have now edited and copied all my contacts to the phone memory and have the various options mentioned earlier.
Had a thought after that I would still have the entries on the SIM card if I copied across any new entries I create to the card. SOLVED
Tried to rename memory card but don't get the option you mention. With File manager open it shows the Chone memory and E:NO NAME but there isn't anything under Options to rename. Not a major issue as it's not affecting it's working but thought there should be a way. Can't rename either in Nokia PC Suite.
As regards Voice Command, so far I have only tried it in the privacy of my own home so shouldn't be any background noises. When you say your pronunciation should be understood by the phone what exactly do you mean. I am saying the command(s) as clearly as I can.
Thought there might have to be something turned on for it to work.

  • Nokia (N8) phone memory : best practices / guide t...

    Hi,
I'd like to know what are the best practices to manage space / memory on my phone.
On the N8 user guide, it is simply written : "If possible, install applications to the mass
memory or memory card, rather than the device memory." (p.112) And that's all !
If I understood well there are 3 types of memory on N8 :
    256 Mo RAM
    512 Mo ROM (Phone memory, C: )
    16 Go storage (Mass memory, E: )
[and also 32GB expendable memory SDHC card 4x minimum]
Since I bought my N8, I installed everything (apps and multimedia files) on E: (mass memory)
    Today I have on :
C: Phone memory : 158 Mo free space over 254,4 Mo
    E: Mass memory : 732,1 Mo / 14,3 Go (with 12,3 Go of MP3 files)
I am using a software called Netqin Mobile Guard for S^3 (which by the way I like a lot, especially the "prompt for connection" and the "web usage manager" functions) and it tells me that I have "insufficient memory on disk E:"
So here are my questions :
1 - Is it true that 732 Mo free on disk E: is not enough ?
2 - Why is better to install everything on mass memory if there is 256 Mo RAM and free space on phone memory ?
3 - If I use a SDHC card to free some space on E: (move all my MP3 files), will it consumes more battery power?
I spent some time looking for answers on internet but I didn't find any to these questions... Any help would be much appreciated. Also if you have any advice on RAM optimisation, I'd take it ! My way to optimise it is to close all apps I'm not using from the app manager. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post, but I think it would be helpful for a lot of people!
    Regards

Question 1.> 732MB is what is left on the internal mass memory. NetQin is just warning you that you do not have much storage left if you want to add more files. The " insufficient memory on disk E " is just an over dramatic warning in my opinion.
--> this is also what I thought but as I wrote in my previous answer, I'd like to be sure my phone is not going to crash if my data reach 99% of E: capacity
Question 2. > It is better to leave as much free memory as possible on the C drive to give the phone better performance. The less memory their is on C the slower the phone becomes.
--> that's what I understood from what I've read but does it mean that "C: memory" is used more or less as additional RAM memory? Or is it just (as you say about Netqin app.) an "over dramatic warning" from Nokia to prevent users from reaching full capacity and then crashing the phone?
Question 3. > I'm not sure by adding an SD card would consume any significant amount of extra power. Unless you are permanently accessing the SD card. It wont consume extra power when the phone is idle.
--> then I may need to buy a SD card to  store all my MP3s and let everything else on the mass memory. I asked this question 'cause I remember having noticed using a palm with a sd card (I know this is old stuff) that it impacted the battery.
It would be nice to have official statements from Nokia on these topics, don't you think?
    Thanks anyway for your answers!

  • Nokia E60 phone memory corruption?!

My beloved E60 is finally giving signs of hard everyday use. I had it for about 2 years and its looks like there might be a corruption with the phone (not the memory card) memory. This is the internal 64MB. All my contacts are saved on the phone memory, as I make use of multiple entries for one contact. I do have a 1 GB MMC card, which tends to work, but don't use it to store anything on. Why do I think the phone memory is corrupt?
Well, I had the following which in my opinion points to corruption:
    - unable to save contacts occasionally, says memory is full (even when there should eb a few MB's left)
    - some contacts from my address book, don't show any name, just the number, when they call me
    - doing a Backup with PC Synch, works, but oepning the nbu file, appears to be incomplete
    - the Contacts when loaded in PC Synch, do not all have phone numbers, despite having a number on the phone entry
    -  the MMC card sometimes says its corrupted, however, when ejecting it and then re-inserting it then seems fine
I am running it with the latest firmware (3.0633.09.04). Its not under warranty any longer and I am happy to do a full reset, if only I could be sure that the backups I have (using the Create a Backup to Memory card) would work. Quite scared to trust it, as there are just too many contacts in the phone (numbers, addresses, email, fax etc).
If anyone has any thoughts on how to get this sorted, please post here - getting a bit desperate.
    Thanks

The only thing I can suggest you do if your phone memory is truly corrupted is to reformat the phone. You can do this by using the *#7370# code. Please remember to backup your phone before attempting it. I would do 2 backups, one with eveything and one without the phone specific settings. The reformat will wipe out all your data. You will need the backup to restore your data back to the phone afterwards. You may also need to reinstall some of the applications you installed.

  • *URGENT* N96 Phone Memory Issue

Just hooked my N96 via the USB cable and cleaned some stuff that I do not need of it.
Then, the thing that I noticed was the fact that from the phone memory I have only 11MB left form the 83MB!!  Checked the files in the phone memory one by one and then checked the total phone memory usage and is only 367KB!!!
Now the question is where is the rest ~70MB used in???!!

Yeah, just did that and only 2.5MB got free!!
Now went into the phone memory from the phone itself and did a scan break down of what is using and how much and found that I have 19MB in sis apps!!    I mean, I did remove all sis apps from the phone memory and installed them on the 16GB one!!  the rest is all 0 or about a few KB and then there is other files which has a 46MB usage.  Think that is the OS and stuff or not??!!
EDIT: -> also there is a 4.5MB of messages, but all my messages are saved in the Internal Memory as I stipulated it!!  How come is that??  Does having e-mails set on the mobile effect such thing as I have 2 set??!

  • Nokia 5800 - phone memory always full

got my phone yesterday from prepay mania, i hav an 8gb memory card in it btw, whenever i go to the menu i get messages saying c: phone memory full, please delete some data. sometimes it doesnt let me access particular features such as "settings" and even returns me to my home screen
my question was how do i move all my future downloads and all the stuff on my phone memory to my memory card, so i wont get these messages coming up all the time
Message Edited by roshan93 on 08-Jul-2009 08:57 AM

if you have installed applications, uninstall them and reinstall them but this time choose the memory card as your main destination (the application should ask where do you want to install it). Also, if you have configured an email account, make sure you choose the memory card to store your emails (go to the messaging/email application, select options - settings - other and where it says memory in use select E: Memory Card (instead of phone memory). Finally, if you have been using the Web application, go to options - clear privacy data (select cache and cookies).
If none of these options solve your problem, then do a hard reset (after backing up the phone, of course)
    Hope it helps..

  • Nokia N73 Phone memory full.

    Hi,
I am using the N73. When ever i receive message or try to save contacts it shows a message -"Memory Full please delete some data". I deleted all data from Memory card, but when i check Phone Memory it shows 44MB in use. How do i clean my Phone memory?
    Please help.

memory maybe distributed between different categories that you may not of, not only user files. first of all check the memory distribution by checking the : menu > tools > memory manager > options > memory details.
if you have alot of messages stored on the phone memory , try to delete some, especially the ones that have attachments or you have recieved through bluetooth.
if you have applications or themes installed on the phone memory , remove these and reinstall on the memory card.

  • N70 Phone memory issue

    Hi,
Using Fexplorer, here is what I see
    C: (8884/11804 KB) flash
    D: (1816/1831 KB) ram
    E: (400/489 MB) disk
    Z: (0 / 0 KB) rom
Now when N70 has 22 mb internal memory, why i see only 11.5 mb ?
I have formatted using *#7370# and formatted the rs-mmc as well.
    Thanks

If you feel that this is a major issue then reinstall firmware. But before that hard reset your phone by
    1. Switch off the phone.
    2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.( Just in case of N78 it will be the multimedia key the small silver key on right side & for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up).
    3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button to switch on the phone.
    4. Release the buttons when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
But keep a backup as you may lose your data. I dont know whether this trick actually works on N70.
Mark my posts as helpful if anyone finds it! After all you will make us improve.
Thanks for kudos if you give!

  • Nokia 5800XM phone lock issues

    Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing these problems? I searched and could not find anything relating to this.
I use the “phone lock” feature which requires you to enter a pin number in before being able to use the phone whenever it is locked. This is different from the key lock feature which just requires you to unlock by using the scroll key only. When the phone is "phone locked" the only things you can do is answer a call and snooze/turn off the alarm. Everything else requires you to enter the pin to unlock. I use this feature for obvious security reasons.
I have found two problems with this:
    - Firstly, the “activate loud speaker” when answering is unavailable until you unlock the phone which can take a while and not easy to do if you are driving.
    - Secondly, sometimes the alarm window for snoozing/turning-off does not work. It just hangs and I have to power off the phone. The alarm window appears under the "phone lock" window and even the buttons on the phone cannot stop the alarm. This happens occasionally and notably more often if I use the snooze.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
    TIA

It must be a faulty card. Try formatting it and see if it works. If not then you should replace it.

  • Contacts list edits through Ovi Suite, Nokia 5230 ...

After I imported the contacts from the SIM card to the Nokia 5230 phone memory. All the names appear as Last name. I want to change this globally without having to go to each address and copy pasting the contents. If the address book were able to be imported to a .csv format, then I could just use Excel to do this manipulation. Does anyone know whether such thing can be achieved through the Ovi Suite. I tried to address this at the Nokia care. They seemed to be from Mars.
Also the contacts search in the Nokia 5230 does not follow common logic. Despite setting to show names by the first name it still shows by whatever it thinks. I have shown this to the Nokia care at Abu Dhabi where they told me that it shows the same in the phone that they have too!

Download and install the Nokia PC Suite..
    http://www.nokia.co.in/support/product_support/nokia-pc-suites
You will be able to save the contacts in .csv format...

  • Can't move all contacts from phone memory to sim i...

Please i need help. I can't move all contacts from my Nokia 6600 phone memory to SIM or from SIM to phone memory at a time like i used to do with my former Nokia 6810. Does anybody know how to do this?
    Thanks.
    Darry.

    hmmmm....*strokes beard*
I'm assuming you want to transfer all your contacts between sim and phone memory all at once.
to do this, go to contacts on your phone then select "options", then select "Mark\Unmark". You then get a little side menu. in this side menu select "Mark All". all you phone contact should now have ticks next to them. Now Press "Options" again and now you should have the option to "Copy to sim Directory". and from sim to phone do this in reverse.
    Peace out

  • About phone (internal) memory of nokia 5230

I purchased nokia 5230.In that there is 80MB phone memory as written on mobile booklet, but it shows less than 20MB without any installation.
    So what I do?
Where is that around 50Mb memory is in used.
If anyone knows please tell me...........

According to http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/5230/ the phone has:
    Maximum User Storage 70 MB
    ROM Memory 256 MB
    RAM Memory 128 MB
In addition, it supports a max 16GB MicroSD card for storage.
The "Maximum User Storage" is = "phone memory" = C-drive. If you install apps to phone memory /C-drive, then they reduce the amount available (you say you haven't installed anything).
Also, all contacts and messages are stored there by default. If there is no memory card, then all videos, photos, themes and music go there, too. Nokia Maps also stores data there, if there is no memory card installed, I suppose.
Without more details of your particular phone and what you have there, it is hard to say what the memory has been used for in your case.
