Nokia 5230 - Uninstalling maps v3.04

Would someone be able to advise me on how to remove Maps v3.04?
I already had v3.03 and thought I would try the latest version. There are some features that I am not happy with (not realising it was a beta version!!)
I then tried to downgrade to v3.03. It goes through the installation and then my phone reports Unknown error -5
I tested again - it believes I have v3.03(246) already, and again error -5.
I check in maps and the version is v3.04
I have obviously confused matters.
Do you know how to safely remove all versions so that I can start again with v3.03? I have read a few topics where people have been able to uninstall - but then still can't get v3.03 to install. I dont want to be in that situation :-O
Many Thanks
Jason

Thanks Scoobyman
I will give that a try.
My firmware version is v20.0.005.
Maybe the threads I read were relating to when v3.04 was a beta version. I should have checked, but wasn't looking at the dates.
The first things I noticed were:
1. When clicking on the WALK option it went back to the application menu menu a few times. Not always but a few times
2. the GPS search bar doesn't show on the map, it now only shows 0.0kb. Not a big issue - but I liked the search bar :-)
3. the built in GPS system seems a litte slower to connect to satelites
4. Everytime I click on an option it asks me to connect to the internet - it does this twice each time. I am assuming there is an option to stop this, but I havent found it. I am only on pay-as-you-go so no internet connection. It just gets annoying.
If I can resolve the internet message above then I could stay with v3.04, but now that I have tried to downgrade it, I dont know if I am on v3.04 or a hybrid of the two hahaha
If all else fails I should be able to do a backup and give it a hard reset.
Thanks
J

You would need to backup essential data first, then key in *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by user) to return device to "Out of box" state.

  • Firmware upgrade Nokia 5230 - SLOW device!

I see that the device 5233 had an firmware upgrade availibe from 12.1.089 to 12.1.092. This upgrade is now not availible for the nokia 5230. This device is much slower than the 5233 and 5800.
Is there a way to make this upgrade also soon availible for the nokia 5230? Because this device has now only the firmware version 12.1.089

try to uninstall them and re-install on memory card not phone memory
it's the reason if you installed these apps on phone memory
+ change the messages to be stored on memory card not phone memory

  • Nokia 5230 - Wish List for Next Firmware Upgrade

    heya guys,
I'm using Nokia 5230 with the latest firmware, V 12.0.089.
The following are my wish list for the next firmware upgrade:-
    1. Messaging > Sent Items: Please include short cut icons to Forward, Create New and Delete as in Inbox.
    2. Log > Recent calls: Unnecessary option for Call > Voice Call.
    3. Settings > Personal > Themes > Call image > Theme image: A bug with certain 3rd party theme (e.g. JustBlack - 5th theme). During lock mode, screen is totally blank during calls & alarms.
    4. Settings > Application mgr. > Installed apps.: Too much application will cause an error of "Application Manager Memory full"  and auto exit when selecting "Option". During error, phone memory is around 25MB, Memory Card is around 2.5GB/4GB.
    5. Ovi Map > Drive / Walk > Set Destination: Please do an icon based UI for History, Favourite, Search & From Map. The list is to small to click on to (when driving) :-)
    6. Organize > Please include multiple selections. E.g. Mark/Unmark > Mark / Mark All. Easy to move multiple applications at once to any folder.
That's all for now i guess. By the way, Nokia rocks!!
    Thanks in advanced.

Please integrate swype for messaging in the next firmware of 5230. Also kinetic scrolling for messages and contacts. If possible the homescreen of symbian^3.

  • Nokia 5230 Gps problem

Hello guys, I've brought my Nokia 5230 recently and I've soon discovered a problem with the gps function. The problem is every time I tried to see where I'm or the gps function it takes ages and it still can't detect any gps signal, I've been to many places, home, library, in my car moving through town and really it don't pick up any signals. Does it matter if I don't use internet at all? And are there settings that I have to follow? Thanks in advance.

    Hi rexlee123
Sounds as if you are not utilizing the Assisted GPS feature which requires a network access point. Whereas you can set OVI Maps to "Offline" if regional maps downloaded, if you just rely on Integrated GPS reception will be quite poor. You need to check in Menu > Applications > Location > Positioning > Positioning server > Access point and also in Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Destinations - that WAP access point has not ended up in "Uncategorized" folder where not utilized.

  • Nokia 5230 v40.0.003 - Contacts Bar Missing

    Hi there, thanks for reading.
I have a problem with my Nokia 5230. I've had my phone about 9 months, and I've been very happy with it. Today I finally got round to installing the v40.0.003 firmware update.
    All went well except...
Ovi Maps not updating (which I can live with)
The contact bar disappearing from the home screen (which I can't)
Searching the net found a few people with the same problem, but no solutions. I've seen mention of the appearance of the contact bar 'changing' but no definition of what this change actually is.
Here's what I've tried so far:
I checked the home-screen settings, it's still on the contacts bar theme and contacts bar is checked on the relevant screen.
I've tried changing to another theme and back, both with and without restarting the phone.
I've tried reinstalling the new firmware.
    I've tried a soft reset
    I've tried a hard reset
I've even tried a hard reset without the sd card followed by a re-flash.
I restored the full backup from before the update, which put most things back the way they were before the resets, but the contacts bar is still missing.
It's a feature of the phone I use a lot so I'm not happy about losing it.
If anyone can offer suggestions as to what I might have missed, I'd appreciate it. Just hope I'm not S.O.L until the next firmware update. (If it's relevant, I'm on Orange PAYG, and have access to my Fiancé's 5230 which is still on 20.0.005)
    Thanks
    N8 Owner

Yes, the Menu>settings>personal>home screen>home screen theme is set to contacts bar
in Menu>settings>personal>home screen>home screen both contacts bar and shortcuts boxes are checked.
Prior to v40 I had a total of 5 contacts stored on the contacts bar and have been using it ever since i got the phone last year.
I wish it was as simple as needing to turn it on, but I did undertake basic troubleshooting (and more) before starting this thread as my first post shows.
I'm not the only one with this problem on orange either (x6 but same symptom)
    /t5/Xseries/x6-contacts-bar-gone-software-prob/m-p/873775/highlight/true#M7504
Orange include their own fugly homescreen theme in their custom firmware so probably don't care if they break the other ones.
My Fiancé has a 5230 as well, she doesn't use the contact bar (so wouldn't care if it went AWOL) so I might upgrade her firmware as well to see if the same thing happens.

On a 5230 highlight the route you wish to delete, then hit the search bar. The keypad appears, then just press the backward pointing small white arrow on the far right hand side of the screen about half way down and it will then say "Delete selected route?"

  • Nokia 5230 dont update to 51.x.002

    Hi all,
I have a 5230 and if i try to update to latest software, dont update to 51.x.002.
I use Nokia Suite 3.8.48 > Sofware Update > Refresh or on phone
Menu -> Applications -> SW updates.
    More info from Nokia Suite:
    Model :5230
    Type: RM-588
    From phone:
    Software version: 50.0.001
    Date: 28-04-2011
    Personalized version: 50.0.001.315.02
    Date of personal version: 22-07-2011
    Language set: 05
    Model: 5230
    Type: RM-588
    Last update: not updated.
Buy from Vodafone Romania as new.
Is a chance to get latest software update, and if, HOW?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The map data for all Symbian phones was not updated since July 2013. You have the latest version.
The HERE team thinks, if you need newer map data, you have to switch to Windows Phone 8 or Android.
To get v3.09 of the map application, you need a Symbian^3 device like a Nokia 700. You have the latest version of Nokia Maps for a Nokia 5230. Even with the latest firmware-version for your hardware-type (RM-588) which is not available for your firmware-variant (0597862), there would be no newer map application.
Do you face any concrete issues with Nokia Maps?

  • Upgrading Qt in S60v5 (nokia 5230)

Hi all, I want to install WikiOnBoard (from the Ovi store) which apparently needs Qt 4.7.3. Having googled a bit, it seems that Qt is a minefield/nightmare of incompatibility and poor documentation. I'm hoping that someone here can shed some light.
The phone in question is a Nokia 5230, firmware vers 50, with an older version of Qt (v4.06) installed. This was originally installed manually following instructions and download links from Nokia Beta Labs when installing the Nokia Wellness App. SInce my phone is PAYG, I'd prefer to avoid a data download (Nokias preferred method of installing Qt, it seems).
    So, my questions:
    1) Is it possible to install Qt 4.7.3 to a S60v5 device? Some sites seem to suggest that it is incompatible.
    2) Is it possible to manually download and install the Qt 4.7.3 components, and if so where from?
    3) Having once installed, is it possible to uninstall Qt 4.7.3 from a S60v5 device? Again, some sites suggest you can't.
    4) Will installing Qt 4.7.3 break previously installed Qt Apps?
Nokia sure do like to make it hard to install stuff... Anyway, I'de appreciate any help or advice that people can offer. I've searched the site, but been unable to find any coherent answers. Thanks

google it wid versions typed.either frm pc or phone.i ve done it.

  • Calibrating the magnetic Compass in the Nokia 5230...

I  have read somewhere that there is a proceeding to calibrate the magnetic compass on the 5230,  and my questions are:
    1) The 5230 has a magnetic compass built in it?  Where  it is documented?
    2) It is used in navigation using Ovi Maps? How and when?
    3) How I  can calibrate it, making the 360 turn, as suggested elsewhere? On what screen/menu  is the function selected?
    Thanks

  • About phone (internal) memory of nokia 5230

I purchased nokia 5230.In that there is 80MB phone memory as written on mobile booklet, but it shows less than 20MB without any installation.
    So what I do?
Where is that around 50Mb memory is in used.
If anyone knows please tell me...........

According to http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/5230/ the phone has:
    Maximum User Storage 70 MB
    ROM Memory 256 MB
    RAM Memory 128 MB
In addition, it supports a max 16GB MicroSD card for storage.
The "Maximum User Storage" is = "phone memory" = C-drive. If you install apps to phone memory /C-drive, then they reduce the amount available (you say you haven't installed anything).
Also, all contacts and messages are stored there by default. If there is no memory card, then all videos, photos, themes and music go there, too. Nokia Maps also stores data there, if there is no memory card installed, I suppose.
Without more details of your particular phone and what you have there, it is hard to say what the memory has been used for in your case.

  • Installation 'General Error' Nokia 5230

I cannot install the latest Ovi Maps on my Nokia 5230 as each time the installation fails with 'General Error' as the message. On clicking the blue i-button it merely says the error has occurred and instructs to try to install again. I have tried repeatedly.
The phone memory shows 12mb free.
Can anyone tell me what to do to achieve installation please?

Factory settings reset - Type *#7780# and the phone's lock code (Nokia default lock code is 12345). This reset restores the phone's original settings.
Soft reset/reformat - Type *#7370# and the phone's lock code.
    Warning!Soft reset wipes your C drive/phone memory!
Hard reset - Switch the phone off. Press and hold three keys together, the green key, the * key and the number '3'. While you are holding these keys, switch the phone on. Don't release these three keys before you see the NOKIA logo.
Warning! Hard reset (as soft reset does) wipes the C (phone memory) drive.
Hard reset for 5800; Press and hold green + red + multimedia button and turn the phone on at the same time.
Hard reset for N97; Press shift + space + delete and turn the phone on at the same time. Don't let the three keys before you see the NOKIA logo.
Hard reset for other S60v5 phones; press green + red + camera key and turn the phone on at the same time.
