Nokia 5233 - My Experience (Phone, Suite, Store) D...

After some weeks using this phone, I am generally happy with it but I would comment:
I really dislike the Ovi suite. It is so limited and juvenile looking. I am able to bring data to my PC but not the other way around. Very hit or miss how photos, music, podcasts "sync" SYNC.
Not ez to hear persons at other end of the line often
Menus are complicated. Worthlessly so.
Display not easily read in even subtle ambient light
Dialer does not have alpha on it - so it is VERY annoying keying in a PW. VERY.
Not happy at all with the lame ringtones
Nok could have easily incl some cool Wallpapers. Cheap!
The way it handles music is really primitive
Podcast search is not worth the time. Better to copy from the PC. It's that bad.
I really dislike the funky, overly complex nature of the browser.
Like other Nokia models - I want to DELETE all boookmarks related to DL tones, pics, etc..from the store. I cannot. It is total clutter.
But here are my real issues:
The store has no selection for 5233, 5230 must be selected @ Ovi store
The Ovi store search function brings up many apps - NONE that I have downloaded have been able to run on this phone. So, my security is compromised as well as convenience. I have given up. I wrote to the local connection for my country, recd cut/paste response. Selected Finland, ignored.
After spending HOURS DLing the Ovi suite and SW update for the phone, it appears there are new revs out there. This data totals about 200mb! I hope that the phone update is really worthwhile and a total revamp because it is 120mb itself, a mobile phone!
So far, I am fairly happy with the phone, not with the ovi store, apps or suite,,, it connects to my PC quickly and to the Internet standalone or as modem well.

Hi, I can see this is an old thread, but I have only just started (trying) to use some of the extra functions and fully agree with stackbaba's comments. Why on earth can't Nokia ADD the 5233 to its list of phones, rather than leave us in the dark and say that the device does not exist? or somehow might exist, in another region? I have bought Nokia 5233.I have not got any PC suite with it. After reading the posts on the Discussion Board I downloaded Nokia OVI Suite. After that I tried to connect my USB cable which I got with the phone to the PC. To my dismay OVI suite is not detecting any Device.
My USB is working properly as when I attach it to my laptop then it asks me to select a mode so I selected PC suite mode.Afer that an autorun pop-up comes on my laptop for 5233.But the OVI suite is not detecting any device.
I have installed the OVI Suite version 3.0.0.I have Windows Vista Ultimate. Kindly help me out.

Nokia PC Suite for Nokia 5233

I have installed Nokia PC Suite for 5233 in my PC having Windows XP SP-2 as OS. Unfortunately the Explorer of Nokia PC Suite is not detecting my mobile. Even I have tried to connect it to my friends PC having the same configuration and he is also using the same PC Suite version for his Nokia 7610 Supernova which is working properly for him, but in the case of my mobile it is not detecting.
Help and suggestions in this regard are highly appreaciable.

Nokia 5233(symbian s60v5) nokia store app problem

I'm using nokia 5233. In this mobile in nokia store app the download button became not clickable. So pls help me to recover.

You must login your Nokia account credentials onto the Nokia Store App in order to download files and applications. Also you can try to browse http://store.ovi.com on the default browser instead.

Nokia 5233 phone momery loss

my Nokia 5233..it worked..........well....i have installed,games,application in phone memory then i uninstall it settings>>>application manager>>>installed application>>>there then i find all applications that i installed>>>choose the desired application and click option to uninstall............i did it but i didnt get phone memory .i reset the phone,backup.also is the any way to get my phone memory

Nokia 5233 Head Phone Problems

Hello, This is Satya from Orissa. i purchased a new nokia 5233 phone just a few days ago and was quite happy with its performance. just a couple of days after its purchase i had to drive a long distance so i opted to use my head phone to listen music on the run. it was working fine but to my dissapointment there was a call from one of my friend when i was listening to music so i used the head phone's button to recieve the call. the call was received but i couldnt listen to the words of my friend. i tried a lot but all were in vain. lastly i had to pull my head phone and talk to him. i tried a lot of times to use my head phone to talk with some one since then but i was not successful in my attempts as it didnt work properly. can any one help me with some good suggestions.

Maybe your operator has problems!
Have you completely inserted the earphone in?

Nokia 5233 messages lost after phone restart

Hi,
I'm having a weird problem with my nokia 5233. It happened to me twice now that after restarting the device, I would lose all of my messages including messages in my folders and drafts and even sent messages. I have opted to save all my messages in my memory card, which is Kingston 4GB. What might be causing the problem and if I can recover my messages, as I have very important messages in there..........And if there is any solution on preventing this catastrophe again................

This seems to be a common issue with the S60 mobile operating system. No comment from Nokia regarding a resolution so far.
My E75 phone has also experienced the disappearing-messages-act saved in my SD card when my phone restarted from a low battery shut down. Inbox/Draft/Sent Items were completely wiped out.
I tried to change the SMS location from SD Card to Phone Memory then back to SD Card again.
I also tried to (safely & properly) remove the SD Card then reinserted it back. Still no go.
The worst part is that I spent 3 days searching the Internet and found that it's not rare for this problem to occur on an S60 platform yet no resolution from the web nor does Nokia offer any solution to it's customers.
They're about to lose a 12 year loyal and solid Nokia Fan (along with his friends and relatives to migrate to the Blackberry & iPhone Bandwagon) soon if they can't help us retrieve the important messages that was wiped out from our inbox. <sigh>..
Pictures and all other files stored in the SD Card are still intact. It's just my 3,000++ important SMS that's wiped out.

Nokia 5233 lining on screen

Good day Sir,
i am having a screen problem with my Nokia 5233, when my phn stay for about 5min , there some lining on the screen like a screen server and it is impossible for me to detect my incoming caller, i have experience this for about a month, i tort the screen is bad but the screen of my phn is ok , so i dnt know waht to do , pls help me

Most probably you need to do what Iris9290 has suggested..but you can try your luck by first Soft Resetting the phone by dialing *#7370# followed by 12345 (Default code unless changed by you..) when prompted. Back-up all your data thru' Nokia suite before the Reset as it will wipe all data from the phone Memory...
Other thing you may try is see if the phone Firmware is up todate..If not then Update it... else, re-install the existing one..
The reason for suggesting the above is, since you mention that after some efforts the Display becomes normal so if it is NOT related to Hardware but only software then the problem may get resolved without replacing the screen ....

You may either goto http://store.ovi.com/ thru' your Phone browser or use the Nokia Store application on your phone..Login and select the Application you want. Select Download (..if its a paid application complete the formalities of the Payment) and the application will start downloading. When complete it will proceed for installation..so follow the instruction in your phone display.
Other way is to http://store.ovi.com/ on you PC.. Login, Select the application and click 'Download' and it will give you an option to send link thru' SMS. When you receive the link ..Open it and follow instructions..
If you search for any application thru' Google and want to download / Buy it from the Developers' or other site..first download it to the PC. Then connect your phone to PC and Double click on the application installer. It will automatically activate the Nokia Suite (..hopefully installed on your PC) and then follow instructions..

You're installing these apps from the Nokia Store, is that correct? Note that the certificates the phone requires should be provided by the app developers together with the app installation files. A temporary solution is provided at this link, though this is for another application. Try it and see if it'll work: certificate(expired) & installation problem. Let us know how it will go.

You didn't post wrong, let's see if we can get the emails syncing. Please log in here, and check that the settings are ok. You can also delete the account from there and from the phone, and try to configure it to the phone again.
If it still does not work, and you have checked that the internet connection works, then please do the following actions and in between them check if it works.
Make a backup with Nokia Suite. Type in *#7780# followed by lock code (default is 12345). This is soft reset, no data will be lost.
You can also reinstall the phone software. The process is the same as when updating with Nokia Suite, but at the end select "Reinstall".
If the sync still does not work, type in *#7370#, also followed by lock code. This is hard reset. The phone memory will be wiped so make sure you have the backup. Restore back up.
Please let me know if it still does not work. Also please tell me what happens when you try to sync and are there error messages?

Does Nokia ever offer loaner phones?

Have a little issue with my Lumia 900. My back button stop working at times, my search screen pops up without me dong anything. I can get the back button to respond properly by turning off the screen and turning it on. Its highly annoying and doing for the next 18 months is not something that I would like. Not the best user experience.
I contacted customer service. I tried restarting, resetting( twice), and updating. Nothing works.
I have read that others have experienced this problem. Usually it happens when I am listening to music so my first guess was that I was low on ram. Regardless of what it is, I either have a defective unit or its design flaw.
Customer Care advised me to send my phone in for assessment and I was told that it was my only option. My Lumia is my only source of phone and internet service. I am studying for a graduate degree, looking for a full time position, so being without a way to communicate for a week is not an option I can take. I would have no issue leaving a $200 security deposit for a loaner used or refurbished Lumia while my phone gets evaluated. I am not trying to scam Nokia, but the reality is people are giving up their land lines when it comes to internet and phone service. Not being connected is not an option. Is there any way of getting a loaner through Nokia? Does any phone manufacturer actually provide a comparable model as a loaner if collateral is left? I am just curios because I have not ventured outside of Nokia family.

Nokia directly does not offer loaners for repairs. They do offer two week trial phones to some people that apply to test them via their conversations site, but these are not repair loaners or guaranteed to be offered.
Most of Nokia's care points are independent companies and they are allowed to offer loaners at their discretion. It is not a requirement and not all will do it. Call your nearest and ask.
As far as I know no other major phone manufacturers offer loaners directly, most leave it to retail or repair stores to offer the service.

As soon as an update for your phone becomes available it will show up in Nokia Suite. Please check there under the green arrow icon.
If you're having issues with your phone's software and no update is available, please reinstall the current software. This option will be displayed under the green arrow icon at the bottom of your screen.

Its not clear what problem you are facing ? Is it that your Nokia 5233 is going on restarting on its own ? If YES, remove the Memory Card and SIM and see if the phone remains ON without any problem. If the problem is related to one of these then it should.. Then insert the SIM and Memory Card again but only one at a time to see which among these 2 is creating issues.. If its SIM, you need to get it replaced thru' your Operator. Most Operator will do it for Free. If you find that problem returns when you insert the MC, back-up any important data to your PC and Format the Card. Check again ..
Also worth to check if the phone Firmware is upto date. Refer THIS for How to do it . (You will need Nokia Suite to do that. Download link is available there in ..)
