Nokia 5310 - Email client and SMTP-AUTH

Dear Everybody,
Afore I buy the 5310 would someone tell me whether the Email client supports,
i) SMTP-AUTH
ii) SMTP-AUTH over SSL
iii) IMAP over SSL
iv) Allows the import of Self-Signed SSL certificates.
Regards, Neocron

I went to the google link (thank you for posting that), but I thought it was an IMAP not POP. I don't really know the difference, but the link to get your e-mail settings said the incoming was imap.gmail.com. I'm so confused

  • IMAP push on native email client and dovecot

    Hi.
I'm using nokia's email client (declined the agreement, so the client makes the connection) to connect to a dovecot IMAP server.
My question is, I'm using IMAP push and it works, but the client disconnects from the server (cca 5 min) and makes a traditional sync (if using freq. syncing). If I disable the freq. syncing, it just disconnects.
    Best regards.

It is quite simple: The native email client on e72  does not support IMAP idle / push IMAP.
(The client on my old E51 did though).
If you use Nokia Messaging and give Nokia the email account credentials there should be a push-like function but I did not test that.
I addition, there is no way to get the sent messages to the "sent messages" folder on the server, which makes the use of IMAP totally pointless.
    Get another email client.

  • Email client and calender for StarOffice

Just purchased StarOffice 8. Was puzzled to discover that there was no email client and calender, as there was in Star Office 5. What to do, what email client and calender shall I use? Is Sun recommending Thunderbird, or anything else? How do I get it?

Thanks to the folks at the Microsoft Outlook for Mac Community who solved my problem!
While I am unsure what causes this problem, once I added the user who is receiving spam from me to my Macbook Address Book App, then emails sent using whichever mail client are no longer tagged as spam.
To me this points to a Mac/OS X problem because both email clients - Outlook for Mac and Apple Mac Mail have the same challenge, regardless of the email delivery method used- Exchange or POP.
Shame on the rude folks at the Apple Support line who told me to reinstall the OS before anything else.

  • Open email client and use HTML link

How does one open an email client and embed a body with HTML, so links will work.
    I have tried:
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("mailto:[email protected]?subject=some subject Results"+"&body="+"<A=href=3Dhttp://www.somelink.com</A>"
    navigateToURL(request, "_self");
This is not to be sent to a php page, but load the user's Email Client.

Using URL notation to specify an emails contents you can't force a user to use rich text. Some have their clients to default to plain text. Therefore it will just show the HTML. There is no guaranteed way to achieve this.
If the user has rich text set as default a link being injected typically auto-links anyhow. You may not SEE it as a hyperlink but send the email and the receiving users computer should see it as a hyperlink.
    So try:
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("mailto:[email protected]?subject=some subject Results&body=http://www.somelink.com");
Then send that email to yourself. You should see it appear as a hyperlink automatically, as long as you have rich text mode enabled. Otherwise no matter what you send a plain text user will never see your hyperlink anyhow as it strips HTML out.

  • OS X's Mail app and SMTP auth

We're having a problem with OS X's Mail app connecting to Tiger Server's mail server. We have the server set up to not always require SMTP auth (all SMTP auth settings unchecked in Settings > Advanced > Security), and to allow relay from only a given set of networks (Settings > Relay). In theory, this means that if you're on one of the specified networks, you're not required to authenticate, otherwise you are. This according to Apple's documentation.
From a bit of packet sniffing, it looks like:
    1. If a user on an allowed network tries to send mail through the server, the server does not return authorization as an option.
    2. If the user has password authentication specified in Mail's SMTP Server settings, it refuses to send. If they set SMTP auth to None, the Mail app will send.
IOW, Mail doesn't send if Authorization is enabled in the Mail app, but not given as an option by the mail server. Has anyone else seen this? Is this a bug in Mail or Postfix?

If you have networks entered in
'Accept SMTP relay only from these hosts and
    networks'
Clients on these networks don't need to authenticate
    for local delivery or relay.
So it does what you are looking for.
    Jeff
Well, goddarn it - so it does!
I was testing various permutation (10.3.4) just recently and it just wouldn't relay without auth if any of them was selected (honest!). That was with the trusted relay....
...but I just tried it again and it's fine!
I had put it down to just another 'glitch' in the documentation.
Oh well - glad you were there to point it out Jeff!
Whilst we are on the subject - do you know of any way to tie authentication (outwith trusted network) to specified users? I was thinking there might be a Postfix parameter for this (sorry, I should just look them all up but maybe someone knows it already)?
Thank, and sorry for any earlier confusion!
    -david.

  • Pop before smtp and smtp auth

    Hi Jay,
hope all is well with you.
what is pop before smtp and how to see if it is enabled?
what is smtp auth and how to see if it is enabled? Is it enabled by default on MS 6.x?
what happens if smtp auth is not enabled? Will my mail server be a relay?
Is there any additional configuration that should be done on messaging server to allow connection for dial-up users?
    thanks,

    Hi Jay,
hope all is well with you.
what is pop before smtp and how to see if it is
enabled?Pop before SMTP is a very old, and little used method for "authenticating" users. There is virtually no reason to turn this on, anymore.
It's done through the MMP, and is the only reason to actually use the SMTP proxy that's part of MMP.
I would not go there unless your environment requires it. Most do not. Most clients support SMTP authentication, which is much better, and is on by default.
    >
what is smtp auth and how to see if it is enabled? Is
it enabled by default on MS 6.x?See above. Yes, smtp authentication is on by default.
    >
what happens if smtp auth is not enabled? Will my
mail server be a relay?Totally different issue.
    No.
If smtp auth is off, if you have external users, they likely will not be allowed to send to other external users..
    >
Is there any additional configuration that should be
done on messaging server to allow connection for
dial-up users? If "dial-up users" means that they come from ip addresses outside your network, then smtp auth will allow them full access.
    thanks,

  • Nokia E71- email client

ive got a Nokia E71, and ive set up my Email client to my gmail account and whenever I reply to an email the text box area were you type your message in always appears with the Recipient message and i dont want there message so i have to delete it and it takes for ever as i have to push the delete button everytime, i want to know if theres an easier way of doing this???

I've not seen a setting for not including the original message, but if you're holding the delete key down to delete the text letter by letter, there's a quicker way - hold the shift key down, and press the down button until you reach the end, that will select all the text, then just press delete once.

  • Email Client and Tiscali

I'm trying to set up me tiscali.co.uk email accounts on the new email client on the new 2.0 software.  I keep getting error messages telling me the information is incorrect.  Any one here had any joy loading tiscali.co.uk successfully on to the playbook?

    Hi there
Edited: Sorry, I thought this thread referred to the Q10 and Z10, but I tried the solution below for the Playbook, and can confirm that it does also work for the Playbook. So here it is:
I had been struggling to connect my Q10 to Lineone and was extremely lucky to find the solution posted by LCromwell on another thread "Z10 Email setup problem - lineone.net"
What you have to do is
    1. choose POP email, then
    2. enter your username and email address and password as usual.
    3. server address is pop3.lineone.net
    4. turn SSL off, which will change the Port automatically to 110
    5. you will see SMTP username and SMTP password have been auto-filled, but delete them both and leave blank
    6. fill in the SMTP address which is not necessarily lineone, e.g. I use smtp.orange.net since I subscribe to that network
    7. turn SMTP encryption off, which will change the SMTP Port automatically to 25
    And then click DONE.
It worked like a dream for me, after days of frustration previously. Hope it works for you all. And thanks again to LCromwell who first came across this solution.

  • Problems with verifying email address and SMTP set...

I have recently moved over to BT Infinity Broadband and regularly work from home.  Recently I have been unable to send work emails (provided by 123 Reg) and having searched the forums I found a solution by using ny btinternet login details and verifying my email address.
However I have been able to verify two of my work email addresses but not the main and most important one.  Each time I try I get an "invalid email address" error message.  This is not causing too many problems with Outlook 2010 as I can still send and receive emails at present, hopefully this will remain.
However I do also use a case management software which sends emails.  It requires a SMTP server details and port number.  I have replicated these with the ones from Outlook, mail.btinternet.com and port number 465 but I am unable to send any emails.
I would be grateful if anybody could help me to verify my email address and also suggest what settings I would need for my case management software.
    Many Thanks,
    Will

I am a BT Premium Mail customer for my BT Talk21 e-mail account.
All was working fine on my PC and on my Mobile when I left the UK on 18t Sept.
In Greece, I was accessing e-mails, and responding to them, via the COSMOTE mobile network.
The problem started around 1st October, when I found that I could not reply to e-mails via my phone ("Sending Failed") - it would sometimes work if I switched my phone off an back on again, but I just couldn't send e-mails from my Android phone.
On my return to the UK, on 3rd Oct,  I found that I couldn't send e-mails via my Outlook 2010 client on my Windows 7 Computer, directly connected to my router-  getting error message 522 (account set up as POP3)
    Test message returns:
"Send test e-mail message: Your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).  The server responded: 522 Your message has not been sent as you are accessin"
So, 2 separate devices, connected differently, where experiencing the same problem - the commonality BT E-mail severs.
I spent 2 days of absolute hell with BT's Indian call centres who were worse than useless - refusing to accept that this was a BT sever-related issue.
    VOL 012-*********** – 4th Oct
    VOL 012-*********** – 4th Oct
On my Mobile, as a test, I deleted my (POP3) mobile account on my phone, the idea to re-instate it.
On trying to set it up again, the BT mails servers wouldn't allow me to set it up as POP3 (even though up until the point of the problem it was POP3).
However, it eventually allowed me to set it up as SMTP/IMAP - and I can now send and recieve e-mails on my Talk21 account on my mobile. Although, being IMAP/SMTP it now deletes mails off the server if I delete them on my phone - which I found out the hard way.
My Outlook client on my computer still cannot send e-mails - returning the error code 522.
I have also accessed my account via webmail (which seems to work both ways) and have changed and verified my passwords, but the problem still exists.
In addition, my daughter also has a Talk21 Premium Mail account, and accessing via a different computer Microsoft Mail on a Vista machine, and she is experiencing the same problem.
I find out today that BT is withdrawing from Yahoo and is changing/has changed it's e-mail systems.
The problems I and my daughter are experiencing appear to be general BT Mail Server problems that need to addressed centrally, and not a single-user level as the likelihood is that many are affected.
I would like BT to look into this as a matter of urgency.

  • Mail and SMTP auth (RFC 1918 error) ?

I've an iMac and a Macbook (both with Mac OS X 10.5.3). Both connected to Internet using Airport via my WiFi router (with NAT activated on this router). This behavior is working fine since almost 2 years.
I was using (and I'm still using) Thunderbird (last version) to read and send my emails on the iMac, and Mac OS X Mail on the Macbook.
Everything was fine until yesterday. My provider has change is SMTP server so that authentification is now required when sending message.
So I've activated SMTP auth in Thunderbird and all is fine. And do the same under Mail (with password option). But it doesn't work with Mail, I've got a SMTP connexion error.
When I choose the diagnostic button, I find that SMTP connexion (EHLO) is fine, then saying my IP address (192.168.x.x) is private according to RFC 1918 and ending the connexion (QUIT).
I have the same error on my iMac, though it just work fine with Thunderbird.
So it seems to me Mail can't connect because of this behavior. But I don't understand why my IP address in Mail dialog with my provider SMTP server is not NATed by my router, like all other IP traffic.
And I don't know what to do to correct this problem.

Well, as SMTP authentification is only required to forward mail to another domain, I try to send an mail to my wife who is on the same domain as myself. It work fine with authentification disabled using Thunderbird but don't work with Mail.
As it use to work fine until I change the configuration, I try to delete my account informations and create a new one as it was 2 days ago (without SMTP auth) but it still doesn't work even if I've got no problem with Thunderbird.
Anyone as an idea about all this mess ? My only clue is the Mail connection diag which show connect, helo (with my private IP), server response 550 RFC 1918 and quit. Even if I found this behavior very strange, the result of the diag is the same with or without SMTP auth actived. So I suppose it was already the same before when it was working fine...

  • How can I create a button to open email client and allow the user to e-mail pdf to a friend?

I need to find a way to let our members share our marketing pdf files with their friends as an email attachment. I can only seem to find a way to send a mailto to a specific address. I am thinking that the form is the only way to create that possibility, but would be open to any help even if not by a form.

Thanks you but I want the end user to be able to open my pdf file from my website and email it as an attachment to their family and friends. ( no specific email address assigned) I tried adding a empty mailto tag and it opens the email client, but no attachment. I don't think I am making my question understandable and maybe it is not possible to do this in Acrobat.

  • J2ME email clients (POP3, SMTP + sending  attachments)?

    Hello,
Maybe this topic was already discussed once before in this form, but after having a quick look into it I wasn't able to find proper answer for following topic.
Well, I'm looking for a J2ME email client (open source prefered) which is capable to send *emails with Attachments (csv data or pictures).*
Mail4Me seems to be a candidate referring the feature set and mem consumption, but I'm not quite sure, if
    sending attachments is supported....
Maybe somebody in that community can help me or at least can highlight any other packages.
    Many thanks in advace!

    Hello Mike,
the first thing I thought of was the conversion rules in SCOT and I don't know of any other option (customizing) that could affect the way it works.
I have solved a similar problem in SCOT w/workflow which went like this:
    - The (old) RSWUWFML-report attaches the persistent object reference to the workitem (as the old-style-SAP-Shortcut-Format) that enables the user to execute this workitem from the mail.
    - When we installed the new SAP Gui it didn't worked anymore (because shortcut format .SAP changed).
    - I have implemented in SCOT a conversion-exit that transformed the attachment into a .SAP-Shortcut that called a self-made-transaction to execute this workitem.
So, if no one else has any good idea of what to do about, I would propose to use a conversion exit in the SCOT. This scans for a FOL...object reference, uses some kind of function module to retrieve the content as text and then outputs a .txt-Attachment. This should work (but is more effort, as well).
    Best wishes,
    Florin

The same thing happened to my phone last Friday(07.18.08).
What I did was, I removed the microSD from the phone and then turned it on.
In my case the problem was my card. It has something to do with the file system(FAT).(that's what my friend told me) =)
Currently, I my card is with my friend. He is fixing it.
I can still use the phone.
    Try removing the microSD.
If it doesnt work, then it's time to look for some technical help from friends.
    Good Luck!
