Yap, you can tell me leaflet included & a tiny label on the pack box. But who will really check every single area of the pack box & read the whole manual or leaflet when they decided to buy the phone. What normally customer will check is the handphone and the accessories. Now you are telling me that customer have to check everything even they buy something from a reputable company like Nokia. If I going in a shop that sell a China like Nokia 5800 handphone and I bought it then I won't have a say here at all.
I have checked with my retailer they allow me to return the unit but I can't get full refund from them. They are going deduct a couple of hundred cause they said the unit is considered used unit now. According to them instead of asking customer to wait they prefer to refund the customer. So who is going to bear for the cost now.
I certainly frustrated by getting a unit that without TV out function. If you are telling me that once manufactured the feature could not be added in, then I would say if you do have a unit with TV-out feature now you could exchange directly to your customer. Why still ask your loyal customer like me to refer to dealer or retailer. Is that what you mean after sales service or NOKIA CARELINE. You don't even care in the first place.
Your apologies certainly couldn't be accepted with reason of Nokia did include leaflet to inform and tiny sticker at the bottom of the pack box. Sound irresponsible to me at all.
What I wanna your care now, that is pls exchange a unit with TV-out feature with mine in which without such feature. Do I really put the CARELINE into difficulty position. Your reply to me is highly appreciated and also to show that you care or don't care.

It is possible that you have one of these devices. Also, the TV-out cable has been removed from the affected sales packages.
Kindly take note Mr. Tan that it is not possible to add the feature after the device has been manufactured. Does the Nokia 5800 support the SU-33W with Mobile...
I have a Nokia N73 and a SU-33W, and I was thinking about upgrading, but according to the Nokia SU-33W support pages very few phones support the device (or DVB-H in general for that matter).
Strangely I found a movie on youtube of someone with a Nokia 5800 that is using it with the SU-33W:

But on the Nokia 5800 or SU-33W page on the Nokia site there is no mention of this. Also the Manual of the 5800 doesn't mentions anything about DVB-H compatibility through the SU-33w.
Is this a special kind of Nokia 5800? Or is it just a normal 5800 with updated firmware that added the functionality?

Go to Solution.Yes Nokia 5800 does support SU-33W ,go to http://www.nokia.it/telefoni_accessori/accessori_nokia/tutti-gli-accessori/casa-e-ufficio/adattatori... it's all Italian as they are one of the few countries who are operating this service, I found the N85 version works with the 5800 ( the N73 version did not) , download the file (sis) that means it's a sybian file (Nokia) now you need to open it to install, the way I done it was to email the file to your 5800 ,open the email click on the sis file in the email to open it and it will ask you if you wanrt to install, click yes, I think when I done it it may have said incompatable I ignored that, so install and hey presto you have MobileTV in your applications you will see the MobileTV Icon, if you have the SU-33W paired it will search for program guides for TV but will find none as they don't exist in UK and you will see other options like you can check the battery level on the SU-33W from the 5800 (cool) , there are no DVBH service in UK at the moment.hope, this helps you guys

First of all I just regret having 5800 in the first place, I really pity nokia , they have lost all the respect I ever had for them.
Starting with the problem I bought a Jabra BT3030 few days back to use it along with my nokia 5800, Nokia 5800 does support AVRCP profile ( atleast they have mentioned it on their website http://www.nokia.co.in/find-products/products/nokia-5800-xpressmusic/specifications ) , 5800 ( Rev : 20.0.012 ) just fails to understand the remote play / pause / forward and backward tracks commands. Which I found to be working perfectly with Nokia E51/E71 and to my horror even the old N73 connects seamlessly.
I have tried with two of 5800 handsets ( even both having the same colour :-) ) and no wonder they had the same problem , I am not sure of the firmware revision of the other handset , but it wont be greater than 20.0.012 for sure.
I had mailed this to nokia support regarding the problem and following was their reply;
"This e-mail is with regard to functionality of headset Nokia 5800. We regret the inconvenience caused. We would like to inform you that Nokia does not recommend the usage of non Nokia enhancement with Nokia product as it might hamper the optimal performance of the phone."
What a pity I must say, the people replying dont even understand the meaning of bluetooth standard's which have been written for AVRCP.
Please advice if anyone elseis also facing the same problem and how should I tackle this.

Nokia 5800 and Office File support?

Does nokia 5800 'tube' phone supports creation/reading/editing of Office files like .doc or excel files or ppt files. also does it support reading of PDF files.
Nowhere in the phone's specifications it is mentioned.
Can i buy some external application which does that?

hmm no i dont think it fully supports it, maybe only in few instances because under the description of the nokia 5800 on the nokia site, it says 'up to 16gb external memory'. Idk if this is written there only because that was the highest memory available at the time of its release?

The SIP stack is there on the N96 at least. I can create a SIP profile and register it to my Asterisk server no problem.
The problem is that there is no front-end application like there used to be in FP1 devices such as the N95-1/2. Some FP2 models such as the N78 have had that functionality restored. The N96 is not one of them, though, much to my annoyance

If you are experiencing a lot of hangs,try switching off transitions in Themes, it makes the phone way fast, also you can buy a task manager such as Handy Taskman(http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/software/item/Handy_Taskman_for_S60.php), it helps monitor which applications are running in the background and helps the phone to run faster. My friend has a 5800 and i own a N97 and both the phones work a lot faster with display transitions off.
If all else fails, try resetting the phone by using the code *#7370#, before resetting remeber to backup all your important data such as contacts, messages etc that are in the phone memory, data items in the memory card are not erased upon reset by the above code.
About your query for software updates, nokia continues to support its phones for about 2 years after release, lets hope the upcoming firmware update meets all expectations.

Review of My Nokia 5800
I got one 5800 last month and then I was deeply fascinated by this smart phone. It is the first Nokia touch screen phone and you may use your finger or stylus to operate it. Also Nokia 5800 XpressMusic provides wonderful devices for users to enjoy music. Taking advantage of touch screen technology, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic introduces the ‘Media Bar’, a handy drop down menu that provides direct access to music and entertainment, including favourite tracks, videos and photos. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic offers all the music essentials, including a graphic equalizer, 8GB memory for up to 6000 tracks, a 3.5mm jack, support for main digital video formats 3GP，H.264/AVC，MPEG4, RM.and audio formats MP3, AAC, WMA, WMV. Built-in surround sound stereo speakers offer the industry’s most powerful sound. So it is really wonderful experience of enjoy music and movies with Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.
How to update the firmware of Nokia 5800 to v21
It is good news that firmware update for Nokia 5800 was released already. New firmware v.21 is available. If you also own a 5800, just follow the simple instruction to update your v20 or v10 to the newest v21.
Make sure that your battery is full (VERY IMPORTANT)
1. Go to Dial screen and press *#0000#
2. Press Options -> Check for updates
3. Connect to the Internet with any APN (WiFi is recommended, however EDGE is fast enough for this). 4. Wait until the download finished. Phone will launch the dialog asking for update, just press Now. 5. Press Accept and Accept and the phone will be switched to Updating mode.
6. It takes around 10 minutes to update, so be patient. After that, the phone will be rebooted automatically.
7. Check by *#0000# again. Congrats! Your 5800 is now v21!
As I can see, there are so many improvements and worth to update for example, better camera functionality and the phone operates faster than previous version.
Best Settings for Video Playback on Nokia 5800 Xpress Music
Nokia 5800 as the multimedia phones makes you able to enjoy watching the video and music with it. The question is, how’s to do to convert that videos and what are the best setting used for. I have convert many videos into my phone, I found that most video files can play with this phone such as mp4, 3gp, rmvb and flv files. But of them plays well but some are not. After many tries, I finally got the best results for Nokia video files. My video in 5800 was full screen, high quality and sounds very well. Here are my settings:
Video Resolution: 480*320
Video Bitrate: 768 kbps
Audio Bitrate: 128 kbps
Video Format: MPEG-4 (be sure not to use H264, as it’s not supported in the current firmware)
Audio Format: MP3
Audio Channels: 2 Channels
You can apply these settings above in whatever application you used when converting videos into 5800. Then I am sure you will get full screen, high quality and flawless video in your phone.
Settings for video playback on Nokia N97, N95, N85 and other Nokia phones.
Nokia N97: Video playback formats are 3GP formats, Flash Video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4; the video resolution is 360*640. Audio formats are AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV, WMA etc.
Nokia N96: video playback formats are 3GP, Flash video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, RealVideo, WMV 9; the video resolution is 240*320. Audio formats are AAC, MP3, WAV, WMA etc.
Nokia N95: video playback formats are MP4, 3GP. Video resolution is up to 640*480, audio format is AAC stereo.
Nokia N85: video playback formats are 3GP formats, Flash video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, and WMV. The resolution is 240*320. The audio formats are AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV and WMA etc.
OK, I will not list all settings of Nokia phones. If you are interested you may get more relative information on Nokia official website.
How to transfer video files into Nokia 5800
I have download some videos from video website such as Youtube, Google video. But I can’t watch these videos in my phone. As these videos were flv files, Nokia 5800 can’t play such videos. I use Internet Tablet Video Converter to convert it, but it shows “Unsupported Video File Type”. Then I got to know some best video converter that seems professional for Nokia phone, I free download its trial version and tried it, and it works very well. Below are what I do:
Click Add button to add video files from your computer, set your videos according to the above settings and select Nokia 5800 Video MPEG-4 format for your video. Then just click convert button to start the conversion. After the conversion complete, you may watch these videos with Nokia 5800.
Also you may get music from video in this way. But pay attention to the format. As Nokia 5800 support mp3 audio format, you should select “MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)”.
How to convert DVD files into Nokia 5800
Obviously phones don’t have DVD drives, so to watch DVD on a phone you have to convert it into a video file on your PC then drag it into your phone. I also follow the above settings and convert DVD files into MPEG-4 video with Daniusoft DVD Ripper. the results are excellent.
After insert your DVD into the DVD Drive click the Open DVD button to upload DVD files on to this program. Click Settings button to set your videos according to the above settings I listed. Click Profile drop list to select “Nokia 5800 Video MPEG-4 (*.mp4)” format for your Nokia video. Then click Convert button to start the conversion. In few minutes the whole process will completed.
If you select audio format “MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)” you may also get music from DVD.
To transfer files into Nokia 5800
In the above tutorial I have explain you how to convert Nokia videos from DVD and other video files. Then you need to transfer these videos into your phone.
1. Make sure your computer and phone are both switched on. Also make sure your 5800 have a memory card in its slot.
2. Plug the small end of the microUSB cable into the phone’s USB socket, which s under a plastic flap in the top left corner.
3. Plug the larger end of the microUSB cable into a USB port on your computer.
4. On your 5800 it should ask which mode you wish to use. Choose “Mass Storage”.
5. Open the memory card window (probably called “Removable Disk E:”), drag your video files into the video folder.
6. After finished transfer files, do not disconnect the cable yet. You should make it safe to disconnect the cable. You may do this by click a small icon in the bottom right corner of the screen that appears when the phone is connected.
7. After you have made the device safe to remove, you can unplug the cable at both ends.
Some useful tips to make the Nokia 5800's battery last as long as possible
Sometimes you may have to stop talking with your friend or watching videos with your phone as low power of your battery. It is more inconvenient if you are in travel and have no alternative battery. Here are some tips to make your phone battery last as long as possible when using telephone.
Do not switch the phone off. As switching a phone on uses far more battery power than simply leaving the phone on.
Shut down unnecessary applications.
Turn down the 5800’s screen brightness to the lowest acceptable level.
Switch off your 5800’s screen when not in use.
Use headphones instead of speakers when listening to music or watching movies.
Avoid using the camera flash unnecessarily.
Use 2G instead of 3G.
Switch off Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi.'

Nokia Ovi Suite and Nokia 5800 crashing after fw u...
When I start my Nokia Ovi Suite (V. 2.2.0.245) it works as usual, I can brows around my content without any problems. As soon as I connect my Nokia 5800 XM (RM-356 V. 51.0.006) it crashes. Worked just fine before I upgraded to the latest version on the phone.

Troubleshooting so far:

Uninstall Ovi and re-download from Nokia web. Reinstalled Ovi Suite but that didn't work.
I then uninstalled all Ovi and all Nokia related software, cleaned Registry and reinstall Ovi Suite: Failed to fix.
Then I installed Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.1 which worked just fine with 5800 XM (RM-356 V. 51.0.006). I had no problems making backups or to synchronize.

I just tried Nokia Ovi Suite again to copy the full error report that it sends to Microsoft.... lo and behold it started to work again?????

Then I installed Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.1 which worked just fine with 5800 XM (RM-356 V. 51.0.006). I had no problems making backups or to synchronize with Nokia PC Suite.
Made a complete backup on my phone.
Installed Nokia Software Updater and I reinstall the latest FW 51.0.006 to my phone.
Then I organized my content for a few minutes.
Shut down Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Software Updater.
Started up Nokia Ovi Suite.
Connected my phone and clicked on PC-Suite on the options.
It now works again????
Something happened when I installed PC Suite that enabled me to use my Nokia 5800 with Ovi Suite again. -

It's not about old or not, it's about that productcode which is under your battery. Take a look here, and follow the instructions. If there is not an update available, you just have to wait.

Nokia 5800 XM and LACK OF Nokia 810 Contact Downlo...
I had nokia n82 with this app from nokia 810. I transferred contacts to my BT car kit and it worked perfectly. Now I cannot find such application and cannot transfer contact in any way. I read in forum several different ways, but it didnt help. I tried to install this: http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/product-support/nokia -810/software I tried to copy contacts by bluetooth (send contact by bluetooth as visit card - when the engine is on or off in any possible ways, reset default settings in car kit and in nokia) IT ALL didn't help. I need help with my Nokia 5800 update to v40.0.005
Hey im having trouble with updating my Nokia 5800 to v40.0.005.
The version on my phone at the moment is v21.0.025 and when i try to update it on my phone it says no update available.
I tried downloading Nokia Update Software and getting it from there but the program wouldnt work either.
Is there any other way i can get the v40.0.005 were it should work? or even getting the knetic scrolling and applications without needing to get v40.0.005?

Go to Solution.Under your battery, there's a product code on a sticker (X: 0586707). Go here: http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-update and type in your productcode to see if there should be an update for your productcode. If there's not, you could take your phone to a Nokia Carepoint and ask if they could do it - no promises. Or else you have to wait untill your productcode gets it.
