Nokia 5800 - Bad GPS reception lately (maybe after...

Hello,
When I first got the phone (about 3 months back), the GPS reception was fine. In buildings it didn't find sattelites, but when I was outside it was no problem. But lately the reception is really bad. Even when I'm outside and not in range of large buildings, my 5800 can only find a few sattelites.
I think it maybe is since I upgraded the firmware of my phone to v30, but I'm not sure.
Does anyone know what I can do about it? It's really annoying!
Thank you all in advance

May be you have deleted the Maps data. Connect the phone to PC thru' USB and thru' Windows Explorer browse for the 'Cities' folder and the 'qf' files on the Phone / Memory card. Delete them. Now disconnect the phone and open Maps..and close them after some 20-30 seconds so  that the folder structure is recreated. Now connect the phone again and open Nokia Suite . Go to Maps in the Nokia suite and select the Maps you want to download / install.. and click the appropriate tab. Once installed you should be able to use the Maps once again ...

  • Nokia 5800 MusicXpress GPS not working!

    Hi All
I'm from New Zealand, i bought nokia 5800 XpressMusic few months ago.
I don't seem to be able to get the GPS running.
Can someone please help me to get the GPS running.
I'm using Ovi Maps and if i try and search for my  position it keeps waiting and never does anything (the red dot keeps flashing). I tried this outside in a clear day with my friend next to me  trying on thier iPhone and getting a good sginal
Ovi Maps version on my phone is v3.04
    My Phone's Softare version is V 51.0.006
Maps were downloaded and updated using Nokia Ovi  PC Suite 2.2.1.23
    Thank you in advance

    Select only Integrated GPS
In Maps Menu (Spanner Icon).. select OFFLINE mode..
Go in an area open to sky and wait for some time.. (depending upon the Location and Environment you may have to wait between 5 and 25 minutes..)and you will definately find Your Location... Once you get the GPS Lock as it is known... you will not find any difficulty in Navigation..
Using Maps in ONLINE Mode and use of A-GPS / Network aided GPS will make use of Network Data which may be expensive..

  • Nokia 5800 XpressMusic- No Apps show up after upgr...

My Nokia 5800 XpressMusic shipped with a 4GB memory card. But that was too small for me, I used up almost all of it, only 500 MB is left.
So I bought a 8GB MicroSD HC memory card. I then took the 4GB out and inserted the new one. And then I transferred all of my data (pics, vdos, music, docs, apps etc) using a backup of my 4GB memory card which I created using Nokia Ovi Suite sometime before that.
But the backup was not successful, though all of my Images, videos, music, docs etc were restored, I dont see any of the apps I installed on that old memory card restored here in this new one.
But the main problem is that they are there, they were transferred. But they don't show up in the applications folder. I think they are hidden cuz when I tried to install one of the missing apps (Google Maps), my phone said that app already exists and asked me if I want to replace that etc. Also same with the Ovi Store app. If I try to again download the missing items, It doesn't work (the download button is greyed out).
This problem happened though I restored my backups twice.
Please give me a solution on how to fix this. I really need it. It took me a lot of time to download all of those apps. So I really need it now. How do I make them appear?
    Pls
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Since you already have the back up of all your content, do a soft reset and only restore contacts, messages photos, music etc but not any apps. Then see if ovi store let you downloade them again.
You do the soft reset by dialling *#7370# with default code 12345 (if you have not changed it your self)
This will wipe the phone memory - therfor the back up. You might also have to format the memory card if there's something there triggering ovi store to believe the apps are already installed.

  • Nokia 5800 and GPS and standby

How do you prevent the 5800 phone going into to standby while using the GPS maps?
While driving it a pain to constently bring out of standby - not worryed about going flat as it is on charge ... Help where are the settings?
    Solved!

Sorry, I should have been clearer when i said in your maps application...
I didn't mean the main menu's settings, I meant when you launch the maps application itself, there are settings IN the application.
Please go to Maps > Options > Tools > Settings > Navigation > Backlight...
Hope that clears it up for you.

  • Nokia 5800 blur

my nokia 5800 screen is not working properly after the software update to the version v52.0.007 and custom version no:c03.01 and type:rm-356

Yeah, I can see that youre linking to a few people having similar issues like yours. - I've never said that your issue isn't real. - And of course other people can have similar issues, also with other handsets. - But it does not happen to everyone, and the 5800 is one of the greatest phone out there for the prize.
What you should take a note of is that the 5800 has sold like a billion copy's and of course some of those will be bad. - That happens to every company and with every model.
See here: if a phone models sells about 100 copys and 10 of them has faults. - That would make 10 percent. If you have a handset selling 1000 copys' with a fault percent of 10 - it would be 100 handsets...
The percent of faulty ones could even be less than 10 percent, but still be more handsets over the 10 of the first model.
Thing is - The 5800 has sold extremely well on world basis and are one of nokias best selling devices. - There would of course be a lot of faulty handsets, but it wouldn't necessary be a bigger precent ratio than other brands...
So it can affect a quite few people like you mentioned, but that does not mean that the majority has the issue!

  • Why GPS symbols cannot exit after i exit ovi maps ...

i have one something problem for my hp nokia n86,
why gps symbols cannot exit  after i close my ovi map. after i exit ovi  maps the gps symbols still display, please help me for solved this problem , i used firmware 30.009, latest ovi maps v3.04

Okay then, the best solution maybe to remove Ovi Maps from your phone, backup all your contacts, messages etc. (not settings)  to memory card or PC, remove the memory card and then try the resets in the order below, then re-installing Ovi Maps. Please note, if you don't back up your phone's data before resetting, you will lose everything!
Factory settings reset. In standby, dial *#7780# and the phone's security code (the nokia's default security code is 12345). This reset restores phone's original settings.
Soft reset. In standby dial *#7370# and the phone's security code. Soft reset deletes ALL your phone's data!
Hard reset (the three key code/reset). Turn off the phone. Press and hold three keys together, the green/talk key, the * key and the number '3'.Then, turn on the phone and don't let the three keys before you see the nokia hands logo/nokia boot up screen.  Hard reset also deletes ALL data on your phone!
    Good luck!

  • Headset BH-800 compatible with Nokia 5800 Xpress M...

    Hello,
I had a Mr Handsfree Blue XS bluetooth headset with my previous phone, and now it appears it is not compatible with my Nokia 5800 (it pairs fine then disconnects after a few seconds, no matter what I do).
    My firmware is 31.0.101.C04.01
I am considering buying a BH-800, but I'd like to be sure beforehand that it is indeed compatible with the 5800. Does anyone use it with this phone, or know for sure?
(What is the problem with the bluetooth on the Nokia 5800 anyway, I have tried to exchange files with my Sony-Ericsson and it worked fine, but failed miserabily when I tried with an Acer Liquid: it behaved as with my old bluetooth headset).
I have tested with a BH-105 in a shop, but I'd like to know which other models are compatible (maybe BH-102 too...?)
    Anyway, will a BH-800 work?
    Thank you in advance

No it is a common problem recently bought a BH-101 for my Nokia 6220 and everyone i spoke to on my phone complained of the echo. I took the BD-101 back and received a free replacement but it still echo'ed.
Yesterday i received a new Nokia N85. Still the same problem!
What is Nokia doing about this? Nothing!

  • Want to know how the GPS works on nokia 5800?

Hi, are there any documentation explaining the working principle of how gps on nokia 5800 actually works? I want a kind of in-depth understanding...Thanx in advance.

Network based positioning is the fastest, but most inaccurate. Basically, it looks at what cell tower you're connected to, and approximates your location to be the location of that tower. The phone will use this FIRST (if you have enabled it), because it gives you an approximiate position while you wait for GPS to work.
Integrated GPS is the actual GPS receiver built into your phone.  It receives signals from the network of GPS satellites and calculates your position.  Due to the inherent design of the civilian GPS system, it takes time for the receiver to see enough satellites to figure out where you are.  Because sometimes this time can be 5 minutes or more, the cell companies developed Assisted GPS.
Assisted GPS (AGPS) is just regular GPS, helped out by a server on the internet. Your phone will take partial GPS data (not enough to get a fix on its own), and send that data to a server (in our case supl.nokia.com).  The server knows a LOT more about the exact locations of GPS satellites at any given time, so based on partial information it can compute a very good approximation of your location.  This happens very quickly because a server has a much more powerful processor, and many more resources, than your phone (to put it simply).  The amount of data actually sent is very very small (less than 1KB every time).  AGPS helps out in getting a position fix quickly when the gps receiver hasn't been used for a while, or when you are in an area without great GPS reception.
So the order of methods used by the phone in your case is as follows. First it will give you an "approximate" position using Network Based Positioning. This will happen almost instantly.  Then the phone will immediately get to work trying to get a GPS fix, and will use the AGPS server if you have allowed it to.  Note that you must have an internet plan with your cell provider for AGPS to work, since it sends data to supl.nokia.com which is on the internet.
    Hope that clarifies things,
    Ravi

  • Nokia 5800 GPS Edition

    Dear Nokia Users,
Is it possible to turn off the vibration for the Nokia 5800 GPS Edition/5800 when touching the keys on the phone?  Grateful if someone could advise.
    Thanks,

    Menu>Settings>Personal>Profiles>General>PersonaliseTouch screen vibration>Off
(You could need to repeat this for other profiles that you regularly use).

  • Using Nokia 5800 GPS and accepting a call

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to answer calls while the GPS is on on my Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition.  Currently, when I use the GPS and someone calls, I tap the answer button, but I get a message that says not allowed.  I was looking around in the settings, but can't find anything.  I was hoping there would be a way to answer the call and turn on the speakerphone so I can drive and talk at the same time.  Anyway know if this is possible?
    Thanks!

Getting my first call during active turn-by-turn navigation, I wondered about this strange behaviour too. As it is I dont see any green phone icon on the navigation screen. With the terminal placed in the included windscreen fixture, it is hardly traffic safe to have to press many buttons to get the handsfree activated! Nokia could consider another option on the main screen when a call is waiting to be accepted, for going directly to speakerphone-mode, or at least a configurable option within the maps application. As of now it jumps back to the maps app, which induces the added (two) press of the application switch button. I suppose buying a separate handsfree kit might 'solve' this basic issue, but that should really not be needed out-of-the-box with a dedicated navigation edition. If someone figures a setting that I have overlooked, I would be pleased to get a hint, thx.

  • GPS LD-3W and nokia 5800 charger

    hi , i have a nokia 5800 and a wireless gps module ( LD-3W) .
in bundle for Gps i received a DC-4 car charger  but i need also charge GPS module at home .
May i use the nokia 5800 charger for this ?
     i remember that :
5800 charger is  5v/890mA .. and GPS  charger is 5,7v/890 mA
    thanks

    Someone asked so;
My 5530 charger works fine charging the LD-3W; its because nokia only every 1 of 2 chargers the large tip or the small tip.
Yes the LD-3W works really well and except for the LD-3W having some extra battery life I heard that the 3w and 4w are really quite similar.
I am not too sure on the specs of them for accuracy and positioning but when i use mine it updates quite quickly (with only little jumps while in my car) and it gets the right position all the time.
I believe the LD-4W should work fine with the 5530 also.
And if you do not have nokia/ovi maps then you should get it. Its free and it has full navigation now.
    Ovi Maps
    ++If you have a 5530 you have to download the 5800 maps application from here;
    http://maps.nokia.com/ovi-services-and-apps/ovi-maps/downloads#/nokia-5800-xpressmusic/
Its up to you but I just choose download from pc which is at the bottom as it wont cost you data charges etc for using   you mobile.
++Next install the app on your phone
    ++Now thats it just install ovi suite from here;
    http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/nokia-ovi-suite
and choose what maps you want to download and by choosing update you can check your app is up to date.
Most of this info above plays to the 5800 aswell

  • GPS nokia 5800 Xpressmusic

Hi, I'm from Romania and I want to use GPS for free but i can't.I don't lnow how work.Where is the download for Gps for my Nokia, how to install? Thanks! I have already installed Maps but don't work,i can't see the maps.

    Hi AdyTza
Latest version of OVI Maps available here:http://maps.nokia.com/services-and-apps/ovi-maps/free-downloads#/nokia-5800-xpressmusic/
You need to download regional maps to your device with OVI Suite, microSD needed in 5800 and OVI Maps run once with memory card in place.
You don't need a network connection for OVI Maps application to work but the Assisted GPS feature does require network connection for rapid positional acquisition, found in "Location" application.
