Nokia 5800 Contract phone missing stuff on menu?

My phone is a nokia 5800 and i am on contract
Last night I did the red and green and camera button technique, and my phone went to factory settings i think.
But, I was left with something missing.
It was a folder type thing, and I know its missing as I had a scroll bar before, and now I dont.
It is definately the folder thing,
If you know how to get it back, that would be amazing x

Where was the folder? If you did a factory reset and the folder was a custom item or addition it is now long gone.
If I have helped you with your problem in some way, please take a little time and hit the kudos button in my post. Without your feedback, I don't know if I am being helpful or should just be put out to pasture.

  • Nokia 5800 - The phone will hang during restart if...

I had bought this nokia 5800 three week ago. This problem did not occur on the first day. On the second day, after i put in some media files inside the memory card through USB connection (using nokia PC suite), the phone will hang during restart and i need to take out the battery to turn the phone off. This problem keep on happens until i remove the memory card from the phone. Somemore, this problem does not disapear even i remove those media files.
With this problem, i need to remove the memory card evey time i restart the phone and plugin the memory card again after the phone is turned on.
    Can anybody help me?
By the way, i would like to ask ---> if i plugin the memory card after the phone is ON, will it harm my phone or the memory card?
The memory card is original card come with the phone.

If this is happening when the MMC is not inserted then the fault almost certainly lies with the memory card somewhere.
A corruption of data can sometimes happen on the MMC when transfering files from pc to phone.
    Try the following.
    Menu
    Applications
    File manager
    E. Memory Card (select and go into E: drive)
    Options
    Menory card options
    Format
    Select Yes
Enter Security code (default is 12345 is not changed)
This will format your memory card, and should delete any corrupted data held on the card.
Note that performing a format on the card will delete all data held on it.

  • Nokia 5800 xpress phone - transfering to computer

I've been trying to simply transfer things from my memory card to the computer but after connecting them together, nothing shows in the files eg, my music, my photos, etc is on the screen totally blank yet on the phone memory itself, there are things in there AND also on the memory card.
I simply want to transfer from my memory card to the computer.  Does anyone know how to do this as i'm new to this phone but getting an headache figuring it out!

you can tranfer evrything from your memory card in mass or data transfer mode, you should be able to do that or just use a card reader for your memory card to transfer data. now all the other stuff on your phone you will need to install a nokia pc suite or ovi suite that give you the ability to back up your data and restore it in an event that you have to reformat your phone, have a firmware update and things are missing etc. you can find pc suite or ovi here:

    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

I have the same problem too, anyone know how to fix this?

How to update the firmware of Nokia 5800 to v21
It is good news that firmware update for Nokia 5800 was released already. New firmware v.21 is available. If you also own a 5800, just follow the simple instruction to update your v20 or v10 to the newest v21.
Make sure that your battery is full (VERY IMPORTANT)
    1. Go to Dial screen and press *#0000#
    2. Press Options -> Check for updates
    3. Connect to the Internet with any APN (WiFi is recommended, however EDGE is fast enough for this). 4. Wait until the download finished. Phone will launch the dialog asking for update, just press Now. 5. Press Accept and Accept and the phone will be switched to Updating mode.
    6. It takes around 10 minutes to update, so be patient. After that, the phone will be rebooted automatically.
    7. Check by *#0000# again. Congrats! Your 5800 is now v21!
As I can see, there are so many improvements and worth to update for example, better camera functionality and the phone operates faster than previous version.
Best Settings for Video Playback on Nokia 5800 Xpress Music
Nokia 5800 as the multimedia phones makes you able to enjoy watching the video and music with it. The question is, how’s to do to convert that videos and what are the best setting used for. I have convert many videos into my phone, I found that most video files can play with this phone such as mp4, 3gp, rmvb and flv files. But of them plays well but some are not. After many tries, I finally got the best results for Nokia video files. My video in 5800 was full screen, high quality and sounds very well. Here are my settings:
    Video Resolution: 480*320
    Video Bitrate: 768 kbps
    Audio Bitrate: 128 kbps
Video Format: MPEG-4 (be sure not to use H264, as it’s not supported in the current firmware)
    Audio Format: MP3
    Audio Channels: 2 Channels
You can apply these settings above in whatever application you used when converting videos into 5800. Then I am sure you will get full screen, high quality and flawless video in your phone.
Settings for video playback on Nokia N97, N95, N85 and other Nokia phones.
Nokia N97: Video playback formats are 3GP formats, Flash Video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4; the video resolution is 360*640. Audio formats are AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV, WMA etc.
Nokia N96: video playback formats are 3GP, Flash video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, RealVideo, WMV 9; the video resolution is 240*320. Audio formats are AAC, MP3, WAV, WMA etc.
Nokia N95: video playback formats are MP4, 3GP. Video resolution is up to 640*480, audio format is AAC stereo.
Nokia N85: video playback formats are 3GP formats, Flash video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, and WMV. The resolution is 240*320. The audio formats are AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV and WMA etc.
OK, I will not list all settings of Nokia phones. If you are interested you may get more relative information on Nokia official website.
How to transfer video files into Nokia 5800
I have download some videos from video website such as Youtube, Google video. But I can’t watch these videos in my phone. As these videos were flv files, Nokia 5800 can’t play such videos. I use Internet Tablet Video Converter to convert it, but it shows “Unsupported Video File Type”. Then I got to know some best video converter  that seems professional for Nokia phone, I free download its trial version and tried it, and it works very well. Below are what I do:
Click Add button to add video files from your computer, set your videos according to the above settings and select Nokia 5800 Video MPEG-4 format for your video. Then just click convert button to start the conversion. After the conversion complete, you may watch these videos with Nokia 5800.
Also you may get music from video in this way. But pay attention to the format. As Nokia 5800 support mp3 audio format, you should select “MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)”.
How to convert DVD files into Nokia 5800
Obviously phones don’t have DVD drives, so to watch DVD on a phone you have to convert it into a video file on your PC then drag it into your phone. I also follow the above settings and convert DVD files into MPEG-4 video with Daniusoft DVD Ripper. the results are excellent.
After insert your DVD into the DVD Drive click the Open DVD button to upload DVD files on to this program. Click Settings button to set your videos according to the above settings I listed. Click Profile drop list to select “Nokia 5800 Video MPEG-4 (*.mp4)” format for your Nokia video. Then click Convert button to start the conversion. In few minutes the whole process will completed.
If you select audio format “MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)” you may also get music from DVD.
To transfer files into Nokia 5800
In the above tutorial I have explain you how to convert Nokia videos from DVD and other video files. Then you need to transfer these videos into your phone.
    1. Make sure your computer and phone are both switched on. Also make sure your 5800 have a memory card in its slot.
    2. Plug the small end of the microUSB cable into the phone’s USB socket, which s under a plastic flap in the top left corner.
    3. Plug the larger end of the microUSB cable into a USB port on your computer.
    4. On your 5800 it should ask which mode you wish to use. Choose “Mass Storage”.
    5. Open the memory card window (probably called “Removable Disk E:”), drag your video files into the video folder.
    6. After finished transfer files, do not disconnect the cable yet. You should make it safe to disconnect the cable. You may do this by click a small icon in the bottom right corner of the screen that appears when the phone is connected.
    7. After you have made the device safe to remove, you can unplug the cable at both ends.
Some useful tips to make the Nokia 5800's battery last as long as possible
Sometimes you may have to stop talking with your friend or watching videos with your phone as low power of your battery. It is more inconvenient if you are in travel and have no alternative battery. Here are some tips to make your phone battery last as long as possible when using telephone.
Do not switch the phone off. As switching a phone on uses far more battery power than simply leaving the phone on.
    Shut down unnecessary applications.
Turn down the 5800’s screen brightness to the lowest acceptable level.
Switch off your 5800’s screen when not in use.
Use headphones instead of speakers when listening to music or watching movies.
Avoid using the camera flash unnecessarily.
    Use 2G instead of 3G.
    Switch off Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi.'

    1.
    2. Their different teams. As I said, this is not a big issue unless more people send emails to Nokia asking for it, and no, as far as I can see, only a minority cares for this issue. Nokia will not spend to develop something in an OS that only a few people care about.
    5. Its an OS design. Either live with it or buy a new phone.
    7. It seems you do not understand what "country dependent" means. It depends upon your country's rules and regulations if this is available, and if the majority of the countries in the world are making laws for the prohibition of silent cameras, Nokia cannot do anything about it. If they break this law, then that country will not allow Nokia phones to be sold in that country, which is bad for Nokia. Personally I dont understand why people want to remove shutter sound.
    9. The setting to get 16:9 ratio is yes, software, but you also have to consider the sensor hardware. The sensor hardware is able to receive light in the same ratio as the pictures, and not in 16:9 ratio. Hardware cannot be adjusted. You yourself said you work with an SLR camera, and if you look through the viewfinder, you see that the camera lens sees the view in a "square" ratio as well like the phone. Creating software to render  a picture in 16:9 ratio is just simply creating software that cuts off the reception of light in the top and bottom part of the picture so as to create a 16:9 effect. Meaning the camera is not utilizing the full 3.2 megapixels of the phone, and the result is just the same as getting the picture you took and editing it on your PC to show a 16:9 ratio.

  • No firmware upgrade for Nokia 5800 in India

I havn't received any Message regarding the firmware upgrade fr Nokia 5800 XM phone. Even i have visted www.nokia.co.in, no info has been found yet.
    Kindly advice

updating to new firmware depends on product code which represents your region of purchasing, language pack and if it's branded or not .... so NOKIA releases firmwares and release it for every product code depending on mentioned points
you can check for updates @ :
    http://mea.nokia.com/support/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-update
To find what the latest available device software is, you’ll need your device’s product code. The code is printed on the white label beneath the battery (e.g. CODE: 0520001).
if your phone is branded with an operator, that means that you should go to the operator care center and ask them, not NOKIA
some updates delay in some countries variant product code, as it requires more effort to add language pack to it like "example. China Japan Korea" or it needs the country to approve it due to its policy

  • Unable to sync Nokia 5800

    Hi,
Really pleased with my nokia 5800 - amazing phone. Ovi Suite also brilliant but unfortunately I have suddenly become unable to sync my phone with my desktop pc.
Normally I would just get a connection between the phone and the computer (either bluetooth or cable), then click on sync icon to sync photos, videos and calendar. There are definitely items on the phone that need syncing, but the sync process just finishes stating that the calendar sync failed and no files were updated (but no files failed even though there are files that haven't been downloaded !!!).
For info, I have installed, but then uninstalled 'nokia mail for exchange'
Please can someone suggest what is wrong. Could it have been 'mail for exchange' ?
    Thanks.

Not sure what you mean by 'sync with Ovi Store' as you download apps from it, you don't sync.
Anyway, I have an N97 and recently updated to the new firmware for this device and installed the new Ovi Suite client.  I lost 2 apps I had downloaded from Ovi so I went there to re-download them as this function is now available with the latest Ovi Store client (get it from store.ovi.com or run your existing Ovi Store app and it will update itself).
I managed to re-download all the free apps I needed, but it refuses to allow me to download 2 of the paid-for games.  I select download from within 'My Items', it shows as connecting and then fails a moment later.  Unfortunately, Ovi Store thinks the download has been successful and shows me downloading these 2 games multiple times and is now asking me to pay for the app again if I want it.  I don't think so Nokia!
I've contacted Ovi Store Support but am not really much further forward as they keep telling me to make sure I have the latest Ovi Store installed (which I do).  Their last email I received (at 04:50 this morning) said they'd be sinding me a text message to enable me to get the games back but I still haven't had it.
Just make sure you have the latest Ovi client on your phone.  That's pretty much all you can do at this stage.

  • Video problem nokia 5800

    HI guys,
    I bought myself a nokia 5800 , great phone , but now I have a problem.
I transferred a mp4 movie from my pc to my phone and now I only get sound and no images , does anybody have any idea what to do about this?
    Thx in Advance

MPEG-4 has several flavors ("levels" ) -- see the WIkipedia entry for H.264.  I doubt the 5800 supports all of them, but offhand I don't know which levels it does support.

Here is the email about missing letters on dial keypad I sent to Nokia USA and UK, and their replies:
     Hello,
I recently noticed that there are no letters on the dial keypad.  This is a very necessary feature when entering a alphanumeric login in a voice menu system while on the phone.  Do you have plans to add this in future firmware?
This was also pointed out in CNET's review of Nokia 5800.

I noticed this, too, but found a "workaround" (until Nokia updates their firmware to include this function).  USE the "Notes" APPLICATION, OPEN a “New Note”, then "touchpad" in the blank-lined area to start entering text.  The default "mini QWERTY keyboard" will pop up (well, that's what I have set for my text input).  In the lower right-hand corner of the "mini QWERTY keyboard" (also in the "Full Screen QWERTY keyboard" OR the "Handwriting keyboard", if you have either of these set for your default text input), there is a small image of a keyboard.  When selected, a MENU pops up, allowing you to SELECT an option for an "ALPHANUMERIC KEYPAD" for text input into the "Notes" application.  You can get the numerical correspondence for spelled-out phone numbers like 1-800-iLIKE-YOU (1-800-454-3968) [I don't know or care if that's a "real" number, I'm just using it here as an example] and can just remember them and input them manually into your “Dialer” application, or, you can “type” it directly into the blank “New Note” you already have open, SELECT and EDIT->COPY the number into the phone’s memory, then switch to the “Dialer” application (PRESS and HOLD the WHITE middle button on the lower touchpad until the "open items" display appears, allowing you to select the HOME or the previously-opened "Dialer" application), open the "Dialer" menu and EDIT->PASTE the previously-copied number into the “Dialer” application.  Press the “Dial” function icon and the number will be appropriately dialed.  Whew!  It gets a little easier with practice, especially if you use the GREEN BUTTON on the lower left of the phone’s touchpad, HOLDING IT DOWN until the “Voice Command” application initiates, then say out loud “Notes”, and the phone will switch to the “Notes” application with relative ease, so you’re just a few seconds away from having a “real” alphanumeric keypad that can be used to “decode” those alphanumeric phone numbers many businesses advertise.  Enjoy! this seems to be a problem of a common virus as the 5800 is generally doing well except for some performance hogs.
@chan chan, there is absolutely no use when you use a PC antivirus to kill a 5800 symbian's virus. there are s60 antivirus out there, but i recommend you do a hard-reset of your phone by holding
"green" + "red" + "camera key"(full press) all simultaenously while powering on the device.do not leave the power key also till u see "NOKIA" on the screen.before doing this, remove the memory card from the phone and format it on the PC.after the phone starts factory-fresh, insert the formatted card.it should work fine now.also update to the latest v31 firmware.
remember to backup your contacts and other phone-memory data as hard reset wipes-clean all data, but do not use the "backup phone" option as it uses memory card.better sync contacts with other phone or PC
It's not always about KUDOS, but to make people happy with their Nokia. get the most of your Nokia. And be happy with what u get ......yet, please dont forget to press KUDOS if my post helped to solve your problem kudos=Rep++
