Nokia 5800 ExpressMusic

Hi All, I just upgraded the phone software on my 5800, to v11.0.009 (last night actually) and I am shocked to see that where new software doesnt bring any obvious gain, it on the contrary has degraded the functionality. Particularly, when I am typing some text the keys just get stuck or it will get out of the screen , This is so annoying. Does any one know if I can revert back to my previous software version?

Just wait for new update (NOT v20) there is a newer one thats going to be released soon on NSU. Might be worth upgrading to that (but read other users comments when this firmware is launched and then u know if its worth the upgrade).

  • Nokia 5800 Expressmusic - problem

I have recently had my Nokia 5800 replaced by my contract provider, Orange. this slightly newer , or updated version of my original handset had a few differences, which I have managed to overcome. I find, however, that when  I have an incoming call from someone on my contacts list, their name does not come up, only their number, and I do not know who is calling me. When I make a call, using my contacts list, I have no problem.
    Can anyone help, please?

  • Nokia 5800 expressmusic e mail problem

Ok - I'm probably not being very clever, but I have recently acquired a N5800 and have all my e mails sent thru to me by Nokia mail.  Problem is I can't reply to them or send out e mails as they all get sent back un-delivered.  Don't know if its related, but I can't open attachments to e mails either.  My e mail address is talktalk.net which is working as normal on my pc.
    Any suggestions please?
    Peter

When you sign up for Google Labs, a Starred Item folder is created, but hidden. You will first need to log into your Gmail account and unhide the Starred Items folder in the Gmail account settings. After un hiding the Starred Item folder, please use the following steps to allow Nokia Messaging to synchronize with your Gmail account:
    1. Log into https://email.nokia.com
    2. Select Edit Settings next to the email account encountering problems.
    3. Deselect the Starred Item folder.
    4. Click OK.
If I've helped in any way, a click upon the white star at bottom right of screen would always be appreciated.
However if my answer also solves your problem clickingbelow it will benefit other users!

  • Flash player - nokia 5800 expressmusic

    Dear all,
Mind to ask, is there any place to download the flash player?  Im currently cant go the movie at one web site, which i need to stream the video.

    hi planetmike,
    Thanks for the replies.
I did check it it says all apps. are uptodate.
you got 5800xpressmusic too? could you check any of the above sites I mentioned above and how is it going to you?
I've tried my homebroker website at the morning from my phone. I's a really basic website, no flash on it at all, only javascripts, very simplistic and efficient website with real stockmarket data and stuff... It freezed down after a couple of clicks, when I tried to get some graphs out from my stocks. So guess the built-in browser just doesn't work well. I mean there are no settings that could be changed in the favor of downloading special data or apps or something, isn't it? I've pop ups blocked but everything else, like cookies and all content and java enabled. Nothing else I can set really.
Trying to free up some space on the phone memory also, moving my mailbox over to memory card. Nothing else I could move over the rest is all hidden files I dont wanna bug those. At the time of browsing I dont have any other apps open either so it couldn't be that not enough memory available.
In a couple of days hope I can figure out something because the broswer always quitting on me

  • Nokia 5800 Expressmusic "active diverts" message.

Whenever I make a call the "active diverts" message pops up.  It annoys me. Because I need the touchscreen to do things I want to do with the call, and the popup deactivates the touchscreen controls.
In practise it always annoys me most when I call voicemail. I like listening to the voicemail through the loudspeaker, but that button is no longer clickable during the time the alert message pops up.
I've seen that message several hundred times, so I know what it wants to tell me (that I have voicemail activated for when I don't answer, or if the phone is off), and I don't need to be told again.
So how do I turn it off, please?

Sadly the only way to disable that message is to disable your voicemail. Oddly on some networks it doesn't appear whilst on others it does.

this is my first post. Recently I upgraded Nokia 5800 expressmusic using OVI from PC. After installation, I find that whenever, I get voice call, phone goes to open caller list automatically and then reboots immediately. SMSes are received without any problem. Voice calls can also be made from this phone. Please advise me.

Be warned that Hard Reset will erase data from the phone.. so If you have not kept a back-up you will have to start afresh..

I've been having a very similar problem with my nokia 5800 expressmusic.
it started off like yours but then the screen went fully black.
the green, white and red buttons at the bottom work so does the small touch button at the top right.. those lights always come on when i unlock the phone so they're fine.
I know that my phone is still working because i was randomly touching the screen when the phone was unlocked (even though i cannot see anything on it) and i ended up calling somebody. my only problem is that i cannot see the screen at all!!
i've tired turning my phone off, taking out sim and memory cards, putting different sims in and charging it.
    nothing works!!
is there anything i can do?
can anybody help me with this?
or is my phone just past its 'use by' date?
    please, please help me!
    thanks

  • Contact transfer from Mac OS X to Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

    Please can anybody help...!!!!!
I urgently need to transfer my contacts from my Mac OS X to Nokia 5800 ExpressMusic mobile but cannot find a way to do it.
This is needed as Apple does not allow the transfer of contacts via Bluetooth Interface from my iPhone 4S to the Mercedes-Benz car COMAND'S APS.

I wrot eto Nokia customer care and this is their reply, for what it's worth:
Thank you for contacting Nokia Care.
In addressing your query, please note that the iSync application that is available for several Nokia phones allows data to be synchronised between a compatible Nokia phone and Macintosh system. However, this application is developed by Apple and not by Nokia. For more information on this application, you may visit the following website:

However, please note that these plug-ins actually come from Apple themselves as it is developed by them and not by Nokia. Hence, I am sorry to say that we will not be able to foretell when it will be available for download for your phone model. Therefore, if you require further details on the availability, the compatibility and the functionality of this application with your phone, please refer to Apple who is the manufacturer for Mac. • 5800 ExpressMusic wifi not working

I just took over a 5800 ExpressMusic from a friend. I want to be able to use the internet with a wifi connection. I am currently in offline mode. I connected to the router in my house. It prompted me with "Create WLAN connection in offline mode?" and I said yes.  When I try to use the internet, it says "Unable to use network. Phone is currently in offline mode"
Then it also keeps disconnecting from the router even though I'm right next to it and the signal strength is strong.

Since you just took over the device, no harm using the Nokia Software Recovery Tool to complete re-install the OS.
Then re-setup the WiFi and try ..
BTW, the phone is in 'Offline' mode because you have selected this mode or there is no working SIM inside ?

  • 5800 expressmusic functions don't work after updat...

    Hi!
I bought my 5800 expressmusic, and was glad for it, until i updated it first time. After the first update all the shortcuts and functoins on the background didn't work. I could live with that, so I waited for the next update.
Now i've updated it again, now the functions didn't work before, they work now, but now the musicplayer don't work probably. I can go into the musicplayer, but when i try to update the library and get the music from my SD card into the player like I used to do.. It only finds about 20 songs of 180 songs..
Anybody now how I can solve this problem?
    Thanks

    it's usually good to do a reset after an update;
Soft reset (reformat). Type *#7370# and the phone's lock code (Nokia default lock code is 12345). Soft reset wipes the C drive.

How to update the firmware of Nokia 5800 to v21
It is good news that firmware update for Nokia 5800 was released already. New firmware v.21 is available. If you also own a 5800, just follow the simple instruction to update your v20 or v10 to the newest v21.
Make sure that your battery is full (VERY IMPORTANT)
    1. Go to Dial screen and press *#0000#
    2. Press Options -> Check for updates
    3. Connect to the Internet with any APN (WiFi is recommended, however EDGE is fast enough for this). 4. Wait until the download finished. Phone will launch the dialog asking for update, just press Now. 5. Press Accept and Accept and the phone will be switched to Updating mode.
    6. It takes around 10 minutes to update, so be patient. After that, the phone will be rebooted automatically.
    7. Check by *#0000# again. Congrats! Your 5800 is now v21!
As I can see, there are so many improvements and worth to update for example, better camera functionality and the phone operates faster than previous version.
Best Settings for Video Playback on Nokia 5800 Xpress Music
Nokia 5800 as the multimedia phones makes you able to enjoy watching the video and music with it. The question is, how’s to do to convert that videos and what are the best setting used for. I have convert many videos into my phone, I found that most video files can play with this phone such as mp4, 3gp, rmvb and flv files. But of them plays well but some are not. After many tries, I finally got the best results for Nokia video files. My video in 5800 was full screen, high quality and sounds very well. Here are my settings:
    Video Resolution: 480*320
    Video Bitrate: 768 kbps
    Audio Bitrate: 128 kbps
Video Format: MPEG-4 (be sure not to use H264, as it’s not supported in the current firmware)
    Audio Format: MP3
    Audio Channels: 2 Channels
You can apply these settings above in whatever application you used when converting videos into 5800. Then I am sure you will get full screen, high quality and flawless video in your phone.
Settings for video playback on Nokia N97, N95, N85 and other Nokia phones.
Nokia N97: Video playback formats are 3GP formats, Flash Video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4; the video resolution is 360*640. Audio formats are AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV, WMA etc.
Nokia N96: video playback formats are 3GP, Flash video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, RealVideo, WMV 9; the video resolution is 240*320. Audio formats are AAC, MP3, WAV, WMA etc.
Nokia N95: video playback formats are MP4, 3GP. Video resolution is up to 640*480, audio format is AAC stereo.
Nokia N85: video playback formats are 3GP formats, Flash video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, and WMV. The resolution is 240*320. The audio formats are AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV and WMA etc.
OK, I will not list all settings of Nokia phones. If you are interested you may get more relative information on Nokia official website.
How to transfer video files into Nokia 5800
I have download some videos from video website such as Youtube, Google video. But I can’t watch these videos in my phone. As these videos were flv files, Nokia 5800 can’t play such videos. I use Internet Tablet Video Converter to convert it, but it shows “Unsupported Video File Type”. Then I got to know some best video converter  that seems professional for Nokia phone, I free download its trial version and tried it, and it works very well. Below are what I do:
Click Add button to add video files from your computer, set your videos according to the above settings and select Nokia 5800 Video MPEG-4 format for your video. Then just click convert button to start the conversion. After the conversion complete, you may watch these videos with Nokia 5800.
Also you may get music from video in this way. But pay attention to the format. As Nokia 5800 support mp3 audio format, you should select “MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)”.
How to convert DVD files into Nokia 5800
Obviously phones don’t have DVD drives, so to watch DVD on a phone you have to convert it into a video file on your PC then drag it into your phone. I also follow the above settings and convert DVD files into MPEG-4 video with Daniusoft DVD Ripper. the results are excellent.
After insert your DVD into the DVD Drive click the Open DVD button to upload DVD files on to this program. Click Settings button to set your videos according to the above settings I listed. Click Profile drop list to select “Nokia 5800 Video MPEG-4 (*.mp4)” format for your Nokia video. Then click Convert button to start the conversion. In few minutes the whole process will completed.
If you select audio format “MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)” you may also get music from DVD.
To transfer files into Nokia 5800
In the above tutorial I have explain you how to convert Nokia videos from DVD and other video files. Then you need to transfer these videos into your phone.
    1. Make sure your computer and phone are both switched on. Also make sure your 5800 have a memory card in its slot.
    2. Plug the small end of the microUSB cable into the phone’s USB socket, which s under a plastic flap in the top left corner.
    3. Plug the larger end of the microUSB cable into a USB port on your computer.
    4. On your 5800 it should ask which mode you wish to use. Choose “Mass Storage”.
    5. Open the memory card window (probably called “Removable Disk E:”), drag your video files into the video folder.
    6. After finished transfer files, do not disconnect the cable yet. You should make it safe to disconnect the cable. You may do this by click a small icon in the bottom right corner of the screen that appears when the phone is connected.
    7. After you have made the device safe to remove, you can unplug the cable at both ends.
Some useful tips to make the Nokia 5800's battery last as long as possible
Sometimes you may have to stop talking with your friend or watching videos with your phone as low power of your battery. It is more inconvenient if you are in travel and have no alternative battery. Here are some tips to make your phone battery last as long as possible when using telephone.
Do not switch the phone off. As switching a phone on uses far more battery power than simply leaving the phone on.
    Shut down unnecessary applications.
Turn down the 5800’s screen brightness to the lowest acceptable level.
Switch off your 5800’s screen when not in use.
Use headphones instead of speakers when listening to music or watching movies.
Avoid using the camera flash unnecessarily.
    Use 2G instead of 3G.
    Switch off Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi.'
