Nokia 5800 message notification

hi,
I have a nokia 5800 xpress music and since two days ago it doesn't ring when i get a new message, it doesn't show the "you have a new message" on the screen neither the message icon on the top right screen, the message simply goes to the inbox as non read. However the the middle button does flash when there is a non read message in inbox. i tried to turn the phone off and on and it didn't work...sugestions?

We are really sorry for this inconvenience.
In order to fix this issue, I would advise you to perform a soft reset on your phone. Enter *#7780# on your keypad, default lock code is 12345.
If the problem persists, I would suggest you to perform a hard reset. First of all, back up your data using Nokia Suite (Tools > Back up). Once your data is fully backed up, type *#7370# on the keypad. Default lock code is 12345.
The hard reset will dellete all your personal information, that's why a back up is very important.
Alternatively, you may also check for updates on Nokia Suite (by going to Tools > Updates).

Could anyone please tell me if there is a way that I can assigne a message alert tone to a spesific numeber on the Nokia 5800.
I know that you can assigne a diffrent tone to a contact if they call and wondered if you can do the same with an sms.

No, you can change the tone for all text messages, but not for individual contacts.

Nokia 5800 message storing

hi all, i was just wondering if there is any way to move all of my messages to my memory card to store. i already have quite alot saved onto it but my phone storage is now full, when i try to move them it is only letting me move them to another folder and not the other storage space. thanks!

For me that worked only the very first time after the phone was new and I had done the transfer of messages from my N78. It asks when selecting memory card as storage for the very first time if you would like to copy messages. After that it just switches memory without asking.
You could try a backup, hard reset of the phone and restore and then see if it asks you again.
That is quite a bit of work though for just trying to copy messages.

I think it said something along the lines of:
You can't receive the message because your memory is full.
So i deleted the messages to make space, the flashy icon is gone, but when does this message come through ?

the message will only stay pending as long as network can hold them for try clearing up some more memo by deleting unwanted images etc you can call your operator and ask for a message retrieval as far as i no the previous 24 hrs can be retrieved

OMA E-mail Notification - nokia 5800 - nokia email...

i have a problem using the e-mail notification from the automatic retrieval options for Nokia 5800. Again, it is not auto retrieval for messages or headers. It is a notification that it suppose to appear to my phone telling me "you've got mail" That does not happen even when i have new e-mails in my mailbox. Can any body help me? When i retrieve the messages, it ok, i receive them, but that s not the point. Maybe it is a gsm network provider issue? I use Vodafone in Romania.
Or, if this doesn't work, the Nokia Email software will be available for Nokia 5800 or already is?

i had the same problem. The thing is, the email notifications do not seem to do anything (?) . The solution is to activate e-mail recovery (for example every five minutes), this way you'll get the notifications of new e-mails. But the problem is that then it starts to download all the messages in your inbox (when it is enabled, you cant choose how many emails you want to retrieve from your mailbox). I use that for gmail (i only have about 200 mails -it works fine) but for my hotmail inbox it downloads the 2000 messages headers (only headers !) and the phone gets really really slow every time i open that mailbox (in messaging app).

Nokia N97 can't send picture message to Nokia 5800...

I have a Nokia 5800 and my partner has a N97 and he can receive my picture messages but he is unable to send to my phone. We have gone through all the trouble shooting with our service providers.
I put my sim card in two other new nokia 5800's and the message didn't come through, I then put my sim card in a different brand phone and I got the picture message! The phone shop said it must be a incompatibility between to two phones, I don't understand how two new nokia's can't send a picture message, has anyone heard about this? Any fixes??

I have the same problem as you with picture messages. I have a friend in Australia who has a Nokia E71 and she cant either. This has happened ever since i have had a Nokia phone both N85 8GB and now my N97.
I havent found a answer and we had no troubles when i had a sony ericsson could send and receive pictures.

Nokia 5800 Xpress Call Waiting notification

Hello all
I have problem with my nokia 5800 xpress.
the problem about call wating.
when i call someone he call to another we usually see in all other models a notification "call waiting" to be know the person we are calling to is busy talking with another
nokia 5800 xpressmusic doesnt show this notification "call waiting"
this problem causes many problem for me.
that i think that the person that i callig dont want to answer me
but the truth he is talking to some one in his phone.
i have my nokia 5800 since firmware v50.x i think that nokia will solve this problem in the next firmware but didn't solved in v 51.x and waiting for new firmware and now updating my phone to the last firmware but not solved too.
pls any one have a solution reply me.

furthermore if the reciever doesn't want to recieve ur call, he may let ur call ring through and through, in which case u'll hear ringing and at the end u'l hear a voice sayin tht the person isn't pickin up ur fone plz try later.. OR there he may reject ur call, in that case u'l 1 or 2 rings and then a voice tellin the prsn u r tryin to reach is busy, etc..
Of course these vary accordin to network..
Well in any case it's a network issue not a handset issue..
Check with ur network.

Call waiting notifications on Nokia 5800!!!!

I have a small problem.
When I call somebody from my nokia 5800 and that person is talking to smb., so my call is on waiting, i don't hear anything and i don't even see it on my screen. So i don't know if that person is not answering or is on a call.
The same happens when samb calls me and i'm on a call. I receive on the screen a waiting call, but only if i look at it. I don't hear no beeps or any sound that could announce me that i am receiving a call while i'm in a disscusion.
The call waiting option is activated.
How do I solve the problem with the sound notification?
Please help!

Message error in Nokia 5800 XM

Hi,
I'm using Nokia 5800 XM.
In my phone, I am facing one issue with call summary.
Even I set this option
Settings->Calling->Call->Summary after Call -OFF
It will display Balance and expiry date. (as I am using Pre-paid connection).
I called Airtel, they suggested to contact Nokia service center because this option should work when I set to OFF. After enabling (Settings->Calling->Call->Summary after Call -ON) this option, If I don't get summary then they (AirTel) will support to get message.
I gave this mobile o Nokia service center to fix this.
If any one know this issue, please let me know the solution if any....
And I am facing another issue with back-up.
It says, "file manager is full. Please try after some time."

call summary is nothing to do with your balance this is for your call duration
the balance message is down to your operator and them alone nothing to do with nokia they need to deactivate this

The settings for Messages cannot be set to Memory Card. It always sets to Nokia Phone.

I can mark all the messages, but the option to copy them to phone memory does not appear! I'm using the lastest firmware for my Nokia 5800.

5800 Message received notification

Hi, I've recently upgraded to a Nokia 5800 and I love it apart from one slightly annoying thing. When I receive a text message the screen stays blank and just the small, white, middle button lights up and I have to unlock the phone before I see the 'new message' appear. On all previous Nokia's the phone would light up and say one message received. Its quite annoying when the phone is on silent as I cannot tell when I receive a new message. Is there any way I can change this so I see when I receive a new message? Many Thanks.

I am sure my 5800 flashed the top of phone LED until the last software upgrade. The middle button flashing is almost invisible in daylight unlike my E61i which is a bright LED. I would rather have a bright LED and less battery than the nigh invisible state I have now. I suggest the programmer aim the signal at the top LED which I was sure was the one lit before the recent upgrade. I keeping missing important txts and its just a simple program thing they could do.

Nokia N97 - No Text Message Notification and a Few...

I love my nokia n97, but i'm rapidly falling out of love with it, i have owned it since the end of august and this is the first time i have really hit a major problem with it.
The main problem being is, that the phone no longer gives me a text message notification or noise in that it being on the home screen it does say "1 new message" and i have to constantly have my inbox open to see when i have a new message and constantly check it all the time, for a person who is texting constantly this is probably one of the most annoying problems. If it makes any odds its using the mass memory.
I called the support line and have tried the following:
- Upgraded the firmware (no effect)
- Hard reset the phone (without the backed up data on it, the text message notification works, after placing data back on it, problem comes along again)
- Cleared cache (no different)
- Hard reset the phone and restored data on phone without the settings (this has worked for a while, less than a day, and is now playing up again)
Along with a few other problems that have started which i am confused whether it is the actual application or my phone that is the issue with this:
Facebook - No longer works proberly, freezes regulary, excessively slow at loading any content up.
AccuWeather - Can never find my location through gps and sometimes unable to load data for a pre-set location.
-At points through the day i do get error messages too that don't really make much sense, "cannot retrieve data" "error" and "internal error, reset phone"
Also when hard resetting the phone the second time round, originally built in applications disappeared so i had to re-download them through Ovi Store again.
Other problems include phone basically freezing regulary mainly on startup, and start up time being long before it lets me push a button, and loading content for the homescreen, the 3 widgets and the speed-dail take excessively longer than they use tooo.
My phone is suppose to be getting 'repaired' within 48 hours, is this true? I got told by a friend that his took 2 weeks+.
Or a replacement and how does this work and who is responsible for giving me a replacement. (Nokia, t-mobile, mobilephonesdirect?)
Could all these problems be linked back to a faulty sim card?
What on earth has happened to my phone, is this fixable, isit a software bug that cannot be sorted, why has this happened, why now, i have never run into any problems before?
Is there something in the data, i can't think of anything, if so what?
This problem started totally randomly?
Isit somesort of weird memory issue?
If i was to get a new phone, will i not run into the same problem again, what happens if i do? Do they keep replacing it or fixing it all the time?

N97 is going back in again today for them to confirm it is un-repairable and then they are going to send me out a new one.
The guy said it was a software issue which was caused by t-mobile putting their own software on the phone, which is absolutely stupid, if operator's software is going to cause a phone to malfunction, then don't let it on!!!

Nokia 5800 recieving text messages

I have just recently purchased a Nokia 5800, why is it when i recieve text messages the senders name doesnt appear? all it says is 'one new message', is this standard for nokia phones ?

Nokia E72 = No email new messages notifications

I have setup Gmail email account on my E72 through nokia messaging. There are NO notifications whatsoever for this accounts - no flashing lights, no email icon on the bottom of the screen, no sound, ..etc. Only on the home screen Gmail showing unread messages.
I've tried all things to get this fixed,
-I've email notifications set in modes and email alert tone selected in profile
-Also in Control panel->settings->General->Personalization->Notifications lights-> events notified, has New email checked
-Synchronization I have: synchronize new updates->"on" , weekday and weekend synchronization -> "On all day" , synchronization interval -> "1 day" , timed synchronization->"on" and synchronization "always enabled", server name is "em1x-198.lhr.messaging.nokia.com"
-I've updated the phone software, still not notifications, I've the SMS notifications working correctly but not the email new message.
Don't know what's wrong or what can be missing.
Even on an old 6120 i had email notifications on the home screen working correctly.
Please if anybody had this issue and solved it update me asap and thanks for you time .
I've contacted the Nokia careline, they told me to remove/recreate my email account from both my phone and http://email.nokia.com, i did and after that they sent me a Dummy settings ( enable " Email alert tone " and "Vibrating alert" which i had it already set , but I've noticed that today in morning I've got the new messages notifications working for about 10 hours then after I've used to plug the phone to my pc using the USB cable, notification stopped and cant' get it working again till now, even after I've restarted the phone and disconnected/reconnected the mail account. Don't know what's really wrong.
Also i don't know which Nokia messaging version I'm using cause they've mentioned another settings for version 3.0

051.018 , Model : E72-1 , Type RM-530 and last update 22/9/2010
