Nokia 5800 - Screen locking, but not turning off. ...

Had the phone about 2 or 3 months, no real problems so far... About 2 nights ago when i attempted to lock the phone using the keyguard the screen didnt turn off as expected. I still get the small locked symbol in the top right hand corner but the display just stays on and never goes off...
Ive restored factory defualts and updated the firmware but to no avail... any ideas are grealy appreciated
Thanks

First, Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.
If that doesn't do it,
This is for a Mac that won't shut down. Launch Activity Monitor (or Process Viewer if you're running a pre-Panther OSX) and see if there are any active applications besides Activity Monitor ( items with icons next to the name), select them, and click Quit Process.
If an app won't quit by clicking Quit, click Force Quit. Then try shutting down again.
If that doesn't work start killing off system-managed programs ( items without icons ) . Be sure to quit only the programs your user account is running; don't quit anything identified as "root" or "nobody" in the User column- and whatever you do, don't quit any of the following : loginwindow, Window Server, ATSServer, or SystemUIServer, which make up the foundation of Mac OS.
Quit one process at a time, and then shut down after each kill until you find success!
I wish you luck!
p.s.If you install two of a single user licensed third-party application on different computers which are networked, this symptom may occur. If that is the case, a solution is to perform "Erase and Install" for both computers.

  • My ipod 4g has a frozen white screen and will not turn off, any advice?

My daughter's ipod 4th gen (only 4 months old, bought direct from Apple) suddenly has a frozen white screen and will not turn off. We cannot reboot it by pushing and holding the two buttons, even when held up to one full minute. When we plug it into the computer, the computer does not recognise it nor does iTunes, so we can't even do a full system restore. Help! Any suggestions of how we can reset to factory settings without using iTunes please?

    - Let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try :
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

The same thing just happened to my new ipod today while i was trying to use an app. A lot of people say that it is caused by an ios update, but I let the battery on my ipod drain until it turned off.  Once i charged it, it turned on and is working normally again

  • 5800 xpressmusic vibrates but not turn on

I have had my Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic a few months now. I took it with me on a plane to France (from UK). Before taking off I changed the network selection to manual to avoid automatic connection to the French network and incurring high charges.
I recall the process did not go smoothly. I turned the phone off. Once in France I could not turn the phone on again. It vibrates but no lights or display turn on.
I have tried removing, replacing battery, SIM, mem card and fully charging but no change. I think something does go on in the phone because the battery does drain. I have also trid connecting to PC but the PC does not see it.
    Can anyone help?

    With your 5800 turned off,
Press and hold [Green] + [Red] + [Camera] Keys
Turn phone ON, and keep pressing it until you see the Nokia Shaking Hands Logo
    security code is 12345
all data will be lost doing this
if this fails return device to a nokia care point
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Windows 8.1 Screen Locking at Display Turn Off (instead of only at Sleep)

    Hi All,
I am having this issue with clients running Windows 8.1 Enterprise, which we are planning to deploy later on this summer.
We currently have a GPO setup for managing the power settings on our staff computers:
This GPO sets computers to sleep after 1 hour, but turn off the monitor after 5 minutes of inactivity
On our Windows 7 systems, the policy applies correctly and if our staff uses their computer before 60 minutes of inactvity (before they go to sleep),
the screens will just turn back on without prompting for login.
I have noticed however on our Windows 8.1 test computers, in the same OU, which receive this policy, that after 5 minutes when the screen goes off, if a staff member attempts to use their computer they will be prompted for a password even though the
unit was not in sleep mode.
Further more, I've noticed that on the Windows 8.1 Systems, I am able to override the "Require a Password on Wakeup" setting using the metro interface, as pictured below (the setting does change in power options as seen below), and does stay in
the No setting even if I run gupdate and reboot.
Any idea how to keep the Require Password for waking up, but not just for computer with the screen powered down?
(I should also not screen savers are not being used)

    Hi,
You can tried also set the item Sleep: After 60 min to see what's going on.
On my laptop, once I configure this, the display turns off without lock the computer.

  • IPhone 3GS V4.3.3 - Passcode Lock will not turn off

Ok, first off, I have never intentionnally turned on my Passcode Lock... As the story goes, I was dead asleep the other day and got a text, in the process of trying to get to the text while groggy and half asleep, my phone asked me to enter a passcode, I entered my usual 4 digit code for most things twice, got to the text replied and went back to sleep.  Now, I cannot turn off my Passcode Lock!!!
When I go to Settings, Passcode Lock (shows On), enter my passcode, then on the screen the Turn Passcode Off is greyed out and cannot be selected.  Can someone tell me what I have done to make it where I cannot turn off the Passcode Lock?  Please help!!!

Interesting... I do have an exchange account on my phone and have had it on my phone for 3 years now however, they just did an upgrade on the email server and it happend right about the same time, within a day or so.  For now, I've set it to require the password after every one hour and I will contact my office and ask if that is a new requirement.  Thanks soo much for your help it makes total sense since we handle very sensitive information.

  • Rotation lock will not turn off even though on mute

Hi I accidentally turned on the rotation lock and although I have reclicked mute & restarted several times, it will not unlock/allow me to rotate

In settings you have the option to set orientation lock for the upper right hand side button above the volume control.  You can also choose to use that button as a mute button.  Or, if you double click your home button and swipe your botom apps to the right, there is an orientation lock icon.  You touch it to turn on or turn off........

  • Ipod would only go inot sleep mode but not turning off

ever since I update the software to 1.2.3., my ipod won't turn off. every time I press play/pause, it goes right into sleep mode. I didn't realize it until my ipod started being out of battery almost every 2 or 3 days several times when i only used it for 1 or 2 hours per day. (while before that, with the same usage, I only need to charge it like every 2 weeks.) Is anyone having the same problem? and how can i solve it?

First step is to do a reset on the iPod. You might need to plug it into a USB port and leave it there for 30 minutes to trickle charge. Then...
Slide the hold switch from OFF to ON back to OFF then immediately hold down BOTH the center and Menu buttons for a good 15 seconds or until it restarts with the Apple logo.
Resetting isn't always effective once and you may need to retry it several times to get it to work.

Let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour, try the reset and connect to computer and try to restore.
