Nokia 5800 - trashed display connector

Hello, everyone.
I've got working display and working touch screen, but my display port got destroyed in result of a mistake I've made during the repair. All I want are my contact stored in the phone memory. I there a possibility to connect the phone using USB (which I tried and failed to do so) and extract precious contact using Ovi?

Does the phone still boot? If yes, please proceed below. If not, you may need to send the phone to an accredited Nokia repair shop.
Have you already tried installing the latest Nokia Suite? If not, you may get it here. The reason why OVI Suite does not recognise the phone because the default usb connection might have been previously set to "mass storage mode". By installing the latest Nokia Suite, there is a chance that the phone once plugged it will override and automatically switch to PC/Nokia Suite mode.

Nokia 5800 cross display

I have purchased new nokia 5800 on 17th June 2010, total view/display is cross (quite diagonal towards left to right upwards) even startup NOKIA logo looks cross, best example if I open google.com in the browser the Google search bar looks cross. I have given at Nokia Care Center (NCC) and they tried all the ways upgraded software,changed display and changed touch panel still same problem then they told me that they are going to forward the device to NOKIA.
Any one else facing the same problem?

Confirm in your Profile Personalization that you have set a tone for incomimg message.. also..If you have a very high no. of messages stored in the phone.. delete as many as possible.(from all sub-folders, i.e. Inbox, Sent, Draft, etc..)

Nokia 5800 XM Display Problem

I have Nokia 5800 XM with its version updated to V 21.0.025. I had purchased this phone in Jan 2009 and had no major issues till yesterday.
Today when I unlocked the phone I suddenly saw a scrambled greyish display with flickring lines.
I locked & unlocked the phone again, I got back the normal screen. I repeated locking & unlocking to check whether problem still persist or not, unfortunately the scrambled display showed up every alternate time I locked & unlocked the phone.
I thought, restarting the phone will get rid of this problem, but restart didn't solve the problem.
Then I thought of resetting the phone to its factory setting. I restored the phone to its original settings through *#7370# code but it was a futile effort.
I checked about this issue on the web and found that lot of other people are also facing the same issue.

Now after a lot of reading on the web, I feel the display problem is a hardware issue and will get solved by Nokia Care people only.
I am really disappointed with Nokia for such a poor build quality of this phone.
I trusted Nokia for its superior build quality and durability and opted for this phone but it doesn't lived to its expectations.
Now lets see what happens when I take this phone to Nokia Care...

try to make a full backup of your phone's data and try to do a full factory reset... it might help, otherwise head to the nearest Nokia Care Point

Text display slanted in the middle nokia 5800

nokia 5800 displays text or menus in a bit tilted manner in the middle part of the screen whereas it is straight at the ends.movies play fine without the tilt.tried formatting the phone but same problem persists help please!

why is nobody replying to this???....I have the same problem. At first i thought it was a software glitch so i updated the firmware...but the same thing happens. Is this related to some hardware problem????

Hello, i have problem with my Nokia 5800,
in bar where should been displayed date is displayed profile name.
Where can i change to date instead of profile name. help.

If you use the general profile it will show the date. If you use any other profile it will show the name.
There is no way to change this behaviour.

Nokia 5800 XM Caller ID Display

Hi
I have a Nokia 5800 XM and have noticed that on the caller ID display, when making, receiving or whilst on the call, the display shows the Name and Number of the contact who is called/calling. Is there any way which I can change this so that the caller ID only displays the Name of the contact calling as opposed to both?
I've been though the settings, scanned through the user guide and can't find any reference to this...
Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry, I did not observe it in my earlier phones as in all, it must be set to display both...
I think, there is no such option on Nokia 5800 (shame!!!).. but you may try some 3rd party Caller ID applications which may give you what you want... just Google for it..

Nokia 5800 behaves strange

When i purchased Nokia 5800, i found it really good and i thought, this is my best phone till date. But lately, it really made me bad with tons of bugs showing every other day. Here are the list.
1- Install many applications in your phone and your scrollbar in Application will behave really bad. It does not scroll properly. You can not see the applications in the last row in grid view. You will have to tocuh the screen carefully to make it upwards to see the application icons that are not showing with scrollbars. I will soon paste image here as my cell is in Nokia Care now.
2- Change the font size of your cell to small and then do a grid view. You will not be able to see the name of icons. small font size works fine only with list view.
3. Play a big .flv file and after running smothly for sometime. It starts behaving bad. sound breaks and you are not able to listen sound properly.
4. Open a .flv file and while it's opening. Tocuh it to make full screen and you will see d-pad that you see when you play flash games. Do we need it while watching .flv. I need to wait for it to open and then only i can touch to screen to make it full screen. That shows it's poor performance.
5. Press quick media bar shortcut in home screen and you will see your clock hides first than other elements on the screen. It's shows the UI repaint is so slow that you can see the difference in elements being hide.
6. I don remember, if i ever played with my cell too much, but yet within 4 months of it's usage. My LCD is gone. When someone call or when i on the screen. It shows paraller lines with background colors of home screen icons. It functions when you touch the screen, but you are not able to see anything on the screen. It happens so frequent and your money what you put on your cell goes in vain.
Problems
1. I had a theme and a wallpaper in my cell other than default theme when i was doing a mass storage. As soon as i plugged the USB and it selected mass storage. My cell automatically changed its theme and wallpaper to default one that comes when you purcahse cell. It become slow and the last dialled green button stopped working in home screen. It woks in other screens but not on home screen. It means i am not able to dial the last dialled number.
2. One of my image showing more than 40 times in Gallery with the same name. What i did is deleted the one and it's no more in file system, but it's still there as icon in Gallery and when i try to delete all those duplicate icons. It says can't delete. General error. I have more than 40 dead icons and i am not able to do anything.
3. Sometimes my clock on home screen just dont displayes. Click on the clock's place and come back to home screen and it will show you the clock. but again move to any other screen and come back to home screen and again clock is not there. Everytime, i need to see the clock, i have to touch the clock's place and then back to home screen to see the clock and that too, till the time , i am in home screen.
4. Play some videos and your cell will become too hot to touch it. Feels like it will burn out.
5. My very old Nokia 2650 has better sound. when someone calls me and i am not in a quiet place. I have to open speaker to listen the voice properly. I feel it's low compare to my oldest cell.
6. Recently listened the songs on Nokia E63 with same headphone i use and the sound quality is much much better than my 5800.
Features Missing
1. Flv player does not give seekbar functionality. If i have a big video file say for 10 minutes and i want to see portion of it. I am not able to see. Either from start or from the place where it stopped. Why no seekbar like other players when play mp4.
Other than these, I have a long list of small small problems i face, since my cell is in Nokia care, i am not able to write them here.
If anyone else has the same problems, then please share here.

This most be because you have the theme installed on the card which is what the mass storage uses. Reinstall it to your main memory.

Nokia 5800 - does not synchronise calendar and con...

I have my Nokia 5800 Exp Music connected by USB CABLE to PC Suite 7.0.9.2 (that is the version recommened on the Nokia site for 5800). The laptop is on 32 bit Vista Enterprise.
PC Suite does not sychronise MS Outlook Calendar and Contacts - the following WARNING message is displayed
PC Sync information.
PC Sync has encountered a problem and has terminated the synchronisation.
Possible Solution
Please check your Synchronisation settings and ensure your phone is in the Idle state, then restart the Synchronisation.

i wanna ask why nokia 5800 doesnt show the contact number of a name in CONTACTS.... i should double tap the name so i can see the Mobile Number.... is there any updates in version so i can see the number...

This is because your phone has the ability to store multiple numbers and details for every contact. It will display all the details when you select the contact.

I own a Nokia 5800,
After updating firware from v11 to v20,
i started facing a weird problem.
from the home screen when i press the contacts button, the contact list comes up as expected,
but after about half a sec, all the contacts gets doubled( i.e. 2 copies of each contacts exist).
It doesnt happen everytime, but once it happens the only solution i found was to delete all the contacts, and copy them back from the memory card which i had backed up.
and in the options->settings, i have set it to display contacts only from "phone memory",
and not from "sim memory" and "service nums".. so problem is not with displaying contacts from 2 sources.
Also i have abt 420 contacts, so the sim cant hold these many( limits to 127 contacts).. so its not coming from my sim.
my 420 contacts is becoming 840 contacts.
Additional info:
If i delete one copy of the contact, both the copies gets deleted.
and also when a contacts makes a call to my phone, her name appears..( This doesnt happen if the same number exists more than once in the list)
Any1 has any solution to this problem or any idea as to why its happening??

21.0.025 firmware is available only in specific countries.( My country is INDIA)
i used tat wireless update feature to updgrade from 20.0.012 to 21.0.025.
(press *#0000# , u'll get some screen with s/w info, then goto options > then select check for updates.)
U'll need wifi / gprs for tat.
or u can give ur fone to nokia care and ask them to update it to the latest firmware availbale.

Message error in Nokia 5800 XM

I'm using Nokia 5800 XM.
In my phone, I am facing one issue with call summary.
Even I set this option
Settings->Calling->Call->Summary after Call -OFF
It will display Balance and expiry date. (as I am using Pre-paid connection).
I called Airtel, they suggested to contact Nokia service center because this option should work when I set to OFF. After enabling (Settings->Calling->Call->Summary after Call -ON) this option, If I don't get summary then they (AirTel) will support to get message.
I gave this mobile o Nokia service center to fix this.
If any one know this issue, please let me know the solution if any....
And I am facing another issue with back-up.
It says, "file manager is full. Please try after some time."

call summary is nothing to do with your balance this is for your call duration
the balance message is down to your operator and them alone nothing to do with nokia they need to deactivate this

Nokia 5800 gallery

Is there any way of telling my Nokia 5800 to exclude certain areas or folders of the either the phone memory and/or memory card?
Basically I use a program called MapNav. It builds up a cache of map tiles which are PNG files. Now when I use the Gallery, it shows me every single picture/video on the phone - which is less than convenient when I might have a few thousand map tiles!

Unfortunately, with symbian phones, it will display every image and video in your phone and can't exclude them from the main folder.
BUT, this phone has a new feature where you can create a folder in the gallery and stuff images and videos in a folder. It didn't affect the actual location of my images and vids in the phone and memory card when I checked.
It's an alternate way of excluding the images by moving them away from the main folder.
Go to Gallery > Images & Videos > Options > Folder options > New Folder > name it whatever u want.
Then mark all the photos/videos you want to move away from the main folder (you MUST mark, even if it's just one) and then Options > Folder options > Move to folder > Select the folder.
The only pain is marking selected images or videos. But worth it! It keeps my main folder clean.

Nokia 5800 doesn't go online in Maps

Hello. I've a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and when I go to Ovi Maps it shows a message "No internet connection. Select 'Options' > 'Tools' > 'Go online' to go online". I did what it said and again there is the same message displayed. I had tried to go to the internet and leave it with an active connection and then go to Maps. It's still the same message. I am using wi-fi and selected 'Internet' as a default connection and all other apps and programs that require internet connection work all right. Can anyone help me please?

Don't know what version of OVI Maps you are using but suspect an old one. What firmware is your 5800XM running key in *#0000# on dialler, is it v30.0.008 or greater?

Album Artwork Nokia 5800

Hi,
I've just bought the Nokia 5800 Xpresmusic and I have a problem with transferring my album artwork along with my music. I used Bluetooth, and the music plays great - but the album artwork doesn't display despite being attached by iTunes.
I was wondering if anybody knew how to display the artwork?

Songs locked in Nokia 5800

I got my Nokia 5800 on 3rd Jan in India.
I was not able to install any application that is available with "Download" app in phone. It was giving "certificate expired" error.
After reading some forums, for this problem I did soft and hard reset my phone 1 time each.
After that, installation problem got solved.
But now whenever I try to play any song, it asks "song is locked. Unlock now?". When I say "No", the song shows lock icon & cannot be played. If I say "yes", it opens browser window and does nothing.
Please help me. I can play not a single song due to this.
So, whats the use of my xpressMusic?

Had the same issue with my New Nokia 5800 brought in India yesterday. i.e
1) Initially application install would fail with Expired certificate. Then after searching the forums found about the soft reset of the phone using *#7370# to fix this problem.
2) Doing the reset above fixed the application install problem HOWEVER
3) NOw all the pre-loaded songs are locked up. And even if I select get license for the song, it opens a blank browser window.
4) I tried the factory reset (Rather factory defaults option in settings). It still doesn't fix the problem.
I am really fed up with Nokia because of this
a) My Nokia N95 display conks of first
b) Next I buy 5800 and it doesn't install applications by default
c) On trying the fix mentioned in the forum, all pre loaded contents get locked up
d) The Map application for India still doesn't show the National High way ANY MORE (other than those linking the NINE cities for which detailed map is there). When in REALITY the ORIGINAL MAP SET FOR INDIA with the Original Loaded MAP application in initial N95 showed it perfectly when I brought it. But after the first Map update last year, I lose that functionality, and even now it is still missing.
