General reactions to V21 seem to be positive so I'm looking forward to updating. But I'm not going to do that until the BBC update the iPlayer application so that it allows users to download TV programmes to phones with firmware V20 or later. Right now, it enables the download option if you're using V20 only because that's the version in which the required DRM was first included. It obviously didn't occur to someone at the BBC that there would be updates for the 5800XM after V20 and that they'd still include the required DRM....
    As things are now:
V11: Can't download because the firmware didn't include the required DRM.
V20: Can download because the required DRM was added. Great!
    V21: Can't download any more because it isn't V20.

  • Nokia 5800 31.0.008 CALL BUG

    Hi!
Also with this firmware, occasionally, phone crash (freeze and reboot) during a call, when H3G netwok (3 Italy) is missed (0 antenna signal).
In Italy, when H3G network (HSDPA, UMTS) is unavailable, the operator switch automatically in roaming mode (GPRS TIM).
Maybe, in the 5800XM OS there's a bug in this switch management.
A routine to close call, is better then a "crash and restart".
    Thx

  • Wishlist for Nokia 5800 V21+

So you've seen that 5800 has it's new update V21.0.025 up and running and we can see some changes/Updates but not major ones..
What major updates would you love to see in you Nokia 5800's other upcoming Versions ? (minor ones aswell)
    Nokia 3230, Nokia 6255i, Nokia 6500s, Nokia N72, Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia 5800 XM, Apple Iphone 3G

the thing that i wanted the most is the standby screen rotation.. i know it's not very difficult to insert this issue in the firmware, as did nokia have made the more difficult improvements before. so i believe this is very simple for them, but they juz dun wanna make the standby screen to autorotate.
    1) auto-rotation for standby screen.
    2) add another "stop" button in music player, so it would look like "backward" "stop" "play&pause" "forward"
    3) camera colors and sharpness improvements, especially in Landscape & Sports mode, the sharpness is not that good in Landscape, and noises when using Sports scene. colors are dull and always have to adjust the color tones to "vivid"in order to have better color pictures.
    4) hope the "turn to silent" function can add another "turn to hang calls"...
    5) better touch sensitivity
    6) better bass reproduction on music player
    7) better if can have smaller shortcut icons, so that we can put more shortcuts on the standby screen
    8) a better auto-rotation theme effects
    9) can create own new folders in menu
    10) improve in the speed of the hp when using 8GB memory card

  • 5800 V21.0.025 error updating to V50

    i'm from malaysia
my wife using Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic (RM-356) ver 21.0.025 product code 0588667
I try to update the latest software not successfull. it said no available update but i check at internet the latest ver is 50.0.005 how can i update it. because with current version i cannot install the new ovi map
some more when i check *#0000# beside software version it also have custom version 21.0.025.C01.01 what it that mean

Reasons why a phone cannot update (no update found error):
    1. It is a country variant - country variants often get the updates later, or have updates skipped altogether. A Turkish country variant product code for example, skipped v40 and updated from v31 straight to v50.
    2. It is network branded - phones acquired from network providers or these providers' stores SIM free are branded, and will not get updates until the networks approve and modify the updates to their liking.
    3. Special editions - These special editions are chartered editions and may never get updates unless taken to a Nokia Care center.

  • Nokia 5800 firmware v40.0.005 bugs that I faced

I was quite happy to see the new firmware update for my Nokia 5800.  Looking at the new features like kinetic scrolling etc.. I've installed the update with no second thoughts.  I had taken the back-up of what ever I wanted and ready for upgrade.
However, the below is the experience
    1. The update went smooth.  Phone has automatically restarted after the update.. I'm happy for few minutes.
    2. Basic functionality is fine.  Some of the applications like Opera Mobile were missing.  Understand that I need to reinstall them.  Also, wanted to update the Ovi Maps.
    3.  Tried S/W update option in the phone.  No application was able to install or upgrade.  After downloading the application, it just says update failed.
    4. Tried through PC Suite.  Experience is same.
    5. Soft reset the phone.  Now applications are getting installed or updated.  But there's another problem.
    6. Phone restarts itself upon any incoming call or alarm or any calendar alert.  This was very annoying!!
    7. Soft reset the phone again.  Imported the back-up.
    8. With zero customizations, the basic functionality is back.
    9. Installed Opera Mobile back. Phone is working fine.  But the touch key board provided by Opera is gone.  It goes to phones default input mode.
    10.  All the applications like Fring, Google Maps, GMail are gone.
    11. Installed Fring (from Ovi store). Phone restarted.
    12. The incoming call problem is back.  I can't simply take any incoming call.  Phone reboots automatically, when I hit any option on the screen.
    13. Uninstalled Fring.. Problem still exist.
    14. Soft reset again.. basic things are back.
    15. Don't have enough guts to install any new software.
    Summarizing:
    1. The firmware is very very unstable.  It seems to have a very narrow happy path.
    2. Beware!! Basic things like incoming calls are affected.
    3. Some applications are not happy with new firmware.  They can break the phone.
    4. If you had any security related application like WaveSecure, do not forget to install it again.
    Other issues found:
    1. Pause functionality has disappeared in the  Recorder tool.
    2. GPRS / WAP access points are taken in the order of preference.
Other than kinetic scrolling, I didn't find any major difference / benefit from this update.
Do it at your own risk.

    I don't think so!
The one that ws released 2 months back was 21.0.018 for testing
We're not talking about the test version though are we, we're talking about the version thats going to be released for all 5800 owners....not testers.....and this version HAS NOT got three buttons on the home screen, although performance is much much better as you stated (i updated to it earlier).

  • Nokia 5800 v21.0.25 Auto-Rotate issue (firmware re...

    Hi,
After updating OTA to the lastest firmware Auto-Rotate display stopped working. When i first installed the new FW I had issue with the home screen. It kept blinking like every 1 sec between homescreen and appication screen. This is when I noticed that I cannot reinstall the FW from either NSU or OTA(I suppose it has been pulled of due to some problem for this model). I was luckily able to soft-reset the phone which fixed the home screen blinking, but the Auto-rotate doesn't work anymore. Sensor seems to be ok since step counter is working, muting the phone call and snoozing alarm works
Now I'm pretty annoyed since I can't reinstall the software and this is my only phone at the moment so I have to loan some phone from somewhere in order to the this to the service.
So be carefull with the new firmware.

You cannot reinstall OTA updates because they only work from version A to version B. Your phone now has version B on it already.
I've read that 5800s don't have NSU available for v21 yet, but I guess it's just a matter of time, then you can reinstall as many times as you like!
Thanks for the tip though. I don't use the auto-rotate or motion sensor at all, so I'll be updating just to get the improved Touch that's apparently coming.
I believe that if you have one version installed, and it is the latest one, you can reinstall it using NSU. I'm not sure how it works if you updated OTA vs NSU, though.

Hi there...i have Nokia 5800,Hong Kong blue, product code 0575408...when i check on the Nokia website,it tells me that the firmware available for this model is v21.0.025...however....when i connect to the NSU...it tells me that the current firmware for my phone is the current one,v 11.0.0.09, and there is no need to update....anybody had this problem?or is there anybody that knows the cause of this?any help would be greatly appreciated.
    cheers

Nokia care in the UK often reply quick but you nearly always get a scripted non-answer from them
@ mccbleue - That is true because things such as web links and extra programs can be added to firmware but other manufacturers do that too.
What should happen is that the release is delayed until it's ready for all.  Nokia's regional offices would have to act quicker at regionalising the firmware.  In the past on other models UK variants have ranged from same day release to the EURO1 variant to 8 weeks later, which just doesn't make sense.
This is probably the only way to put an end to the masses of posts from people in various countries asking when updates will be available in X country.  This is not taking into account branded phones which is a problem in itself.
Other manufacturers can manage near simultaneous worldwide release for firmware, why can't nokia?

  • Nokia 5800 alarm bug auto-fix!

    My Nokia 5800 (UK)
    0575581
    v30.0.011
Had the workdays alarm bug. The alarm would sound 3 minutes late.
But after the daylight saving automatic update the bug has disappeared.
    My Date and time settings:
    Time zone: Local Time
    Automatic time update: On
    I hope this helps.

It is in fact pretty random. The change back to GMT didn't cure the problem for me and the alarm still goes off late. The phone also switches late out of a programmed profile and the scheduled backup sometimes doesn't happen at all.
The update to V31 is reputed to fix this issue - if ever we get it for our UK CV handsets.

  • Firmware update v21 Nokia 5800

I've got a problem. After updating my Blue Nokia 5800 to the newest v21 firmware my default theme changed to a red one. I suppose that it happened because my phone is treated like a red nokia 5800. For mroe information i can say that my phone is signed in NSU as Nokia 5800 xpress music RM-356 ( on the picture there is a red nokia 5800) and it was bought in Poland Plus ( Polkomtel ). Any suggestions what could i do to install the blue nokia firmware?

Correct, there are two more codes now

    .1.
When receiving new message and viewing it, the little envelope icon on the left in the inbox is still set to closed. its not like previous firmware where the envelope is open once you view your message.
    .2.
Check your battery on the right hand in the main screen just say for example u got 3 bars, now go in to music player and play a music track and u will notice it will be 2bars instead of 3. It will always be 1 bar below than what u got on the main screen battery status bar.
    .3.
If updating from previous firmware with lock code enabled to v20. your phone will not be accessible whatever pin code u enter either ur own, or default codes... 12345, 00000 etc (BEFORE UPDATING TO V20, TURN OFF YOUR LOCK CODE !)
Would be great if NOKIA could add more themes with the phone rather than just one. ope to see a new update for this.
