NOKIA 5800 xm GREIF and FRUSTRATION

Hi,
Well after 2 days of ownership i was starting to like this phone and had installed google maps and setup my pop3 email etc.
Today installed all the software off dvd-disc onto PC, but eveytime i connect the usb lead to the phone in any application eg ovi or nokia music, it restarts the PC- driving me nuts. On my wifes new dell laptop the disc wont even load it just crashes it.
Today also tried to dowload and install bbciplayer. It is not in applications, and in downloads says 'downloaded', when i click here to 'open' it brings up bbc iplayer webpage with donload now button which does nothing.
This may be because the phone is running old firmware, I don't know. I'd like to be able to find out what i'm running and try updates but i can't connect the phone to my pc. On a symbian website they tell you to enter #0000# or something similar to check firmware but this didn't work.
Please help,
John

Ok firstly i've had to sign up again to this forum as i couldn't log back in with my previous username- Holy Cow this phone is winding me up.
On the o2 forum someone told me to forget the nokia disc and just use pcsuite and nsu. This has worked on my spare pc, but my main pc just RESTARTS everytime i connect the usb lead. My old 6280 used to connect by usb to pcsuite without any problems.
My firmware is 11.0.009 which is probably why the BBCiplayer wont work, at least for now as nsu says i have the latest software- I am in UK.
Just found out too that the phone wont work very well with blue and me handsfree system in my Fiat. Can't use phonebook, and wont seem to hold pairing. My old 6280 worked superbly and connected /disconnected automatically everytime i used the car, and i could use voice commands for contacts- now i can't.
Pretty fed up.

  • Nokia 5800 Social Network and Internet/Email conce...

Having owned the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic for a couple of months or so, I must say that I really like the phone and it has great functionality.
My main concerns/issues however are outlined below:
    1. Facebook for Nokia app is slow, does not show all of the functions that m.facebook.com shows and isn't a homescreen widget (e.g. push notifications)
    2. Communities app is even slower and again does not have the functionality of m.facebook.com and doesn't show notifications at all!
    3. The Nokia Messaging app insists on connecting to 3G all the time, rather than a wifi connection when available. I've also experienced intermittent issues when trying to connect (sometimes it stays offline and even selecting 'Go online' doesn't wake the program up).
    4. Default web browser keeps crashing and doesn't support larger websites (I experience intermittent crashes as well as memory issues). I do not receive such issues in Opera Mobile. I also dislike the defaulting to full screen mode all the time. If you turn full screen off, as soon as you navigate to a different page it goes back to full screen again, therefore increasing the activity on the phone and it takes longer to load the page before you can scroll or click another link.
I think I've covered all of my main concerns but in essence this device really needs better app support and social networking integration.
I would be grateful if I could be given an update on if/when we can expect to receive such support.
If anyone else agrees, please indicate below along with any additional feature requests relating to this topic.
Thank you for your time in reading this post.

    bump
Same issues here, facebook is almost unuably slow (it's quicker to boot up the laptop!)
Messeging will not use wifi and i have a limited data plan so can't use it for attachments.
Web browser randomly exits for no reaseon and the lack of width adjustment is infuriating
Now ovi store's won't let me download!

  • Nokia 5800 Emails Faxes and messages prob

    Hello all
I've had my Nokia 5800 for about a month or so now. When i first got it it was all good, the phone randomly restarted once and after that, up in the right corner it says i have new messages, faxes and emails. I didnt connect my email with my phone, nor do i have any fax related info. Also the message icon that is appearing is different than the one of the text message pic. I was just wondering is there any way to remove these?
    Thanks

    http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/How_to_get_rid_of_the_flashing_envelope_icon_on_the_Nok...
This icon indicates that the SIM card's own text message storage is full. This doesn't actually cause problems on the 5800 because it stores its messages in the phone's own memory, but the envelope can look a bit annoying.
To get rid of the flashing envelope:
On the standby screen press the white menu button.
    Select "Messaging"
    Select "Options"
    Select "SIM Messages"
Delete some or all of the messages from the SIM messages folder using the Options menu.
This should make the flashing envelope go away. You only have to do this once because when the SIM card is emptied it won't fill any more, as the 5800 does not store messages on SIM cards.

  • Nokia 5800 WiFi Connection and auto rotation probl...

can anyone tell if they have experienced this problem in their new 5800,  the issue with my phone is that I cannot connect to any WIFi connection, it gives an error message and also the auto rotation function does not work. Only after giving it a really hard shake does it seems to respond otherwise it remains as it is.  The phone also feels hot even though when not used.
Can any one help me, the phone is just 3 days old.

Thanks....now its sitting at nokia care with the promise that they want to change the mother board. Still waiting.....

  • FREAKING CASE FOR NOKIA 5800!!

I apologize for my upper-caps message title, but I am getting quite angry. I just bought a Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition, and I am looking for a simple holster similar to what I had for my Blackberry. (http://www.adorama.com/RIMB83IBP.html?sid=1259634874179129) However I can't find ANYTHING remotely similar to it, which shocks me.
Help would be STRONGLY appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi dragao20,
Thanks for your post and welcome to the Nokia forum.
We are really sorry for this inconvenience.
In order to fix this issue, I would advise you to perform a soft reset on your phone.  Enter *#7780# on your keypad, default lock code is 12345.
If the problem persists, I would suggest you to perform a hard reset. First of all, back up your data using Nokia Suite (Tools > Back up). Once your data is fully backed up,  type *#7370# on the keypad.  Default lock code is 12345.
The hard reset will dellete all your personal information, that's why a back up is very important.
Alternatively, you may also check for updates on Nokia Suite (by going to Tools > Updates).
Hope this helps and feel free to post any other questions you may have.
    Regards,
    Pfrancoise

  • Nokia 5800 Problems(battery + Reliacne GSM)

I have bought New Nokia 5800 XpressMusic on 15th November 2009(1month ago)
***But I think I am getting less battery life as compared to company assurance.
company says that battery lasts after
    Talktime: 8.8Hours OR
    Standby: 406Hours OR
    Video Calling: 3Hours OR
    Music Playback: 35 Hours OR
    Video Playback: 5Hours(Mpeg4) OR 3Hours(nHD)
But my usage are as follows(PER DAY, 24hours)(2G):
at least 100 to max 170 Text messages,
at most 1:15 Hours music playback,
    5 to 6 image capture,
At most 1 call (hardly one!)
    No GPS
And  network mode is selected as GSM because it causes battery last longer.
then also if i charge battery COMPLETELY ( until it says charging complete/battery full) at 6AM, then at 6AM on the next day only 2 or sometimes 3 bars are shown on battery indicator (on default theme)
    IS THIS OKAY?
     *** My second problem.
I have downloaded Guitar, Drum and othe music apps and SPB Brain Evolution from Nokia.
And I am using Reliance GSM sim card(in INDIA ONLY).
but  when i open them Error comes out:This Application cannot be started on device other then Nokia 5800/India.
    And application closes.(brain evolution)
and ,usic applications give error as this app can only be run on india telco simcard or something like that.
    What should i do?
    Please Help.
    яєgαя∂ѕ,
    gιяιѕн©®

The stated times for battery life by the company is at max efficiency modes, and can never be reached in real life. For example, to reach around 30hours of music playback, you need to set it to the lowest volume, lowest screen display brightness, offline mode, display off at 5 secs, etc...Meaning that you're basically turning everything off except for music player. Oh yeah, to make sure the battery is full, countdown only starts once its already playing and you unplug it from the charger. Basically you wont do that in real life. The 5800's actual real life battery performance is about one and a half days of moderate usage.
The phone lasts for me from about 6am to 12nn the next day (turns off), with about 100texts per day, 3 or 5  calls, random music playback (hardly an hour a day), 2 hours of internet. I have my 3G on at times, but I have reduced haptic feedback to lowest levels (this eats a lot of battery), touch tones are disabled, display brightness at about 3/4.

How to update the firmware of Nokia 5800 to v21
It is good news that firmware update for Nokia 5800 was released already. New firmware v.21 is available. If you also own a 5800, just follow the simple instruction to update your v20 or v10 to the newest v21.
Make sure that your battery is full (VERY IMPORTANT)
    1. Go to Dial screen and press *#0000#
    2. Press Options -> Check for updates
    3. Connect to the Internet with any APN (WiFi is recommended, however EDGE is fast enough for this). 4. Wait until the download finished. Phone will launch the dialog asking for update, just press Now. 5. Press Accept and Accept and the phone will be switched to Updating mode.
    6. It takes around 10 minutes to update, so be patient. After that, the phone will be rebooted automatically.
    7. Check by *#0000# again. Congrats! Your 5800 is now v21!
As I can see, there are so many improvements and worth to update for example, better camera functionality and the phone operates faster than previous version.
Best Settings for Video Playback on Nokia 5800 Xpress Music
Nokia 5800 as the multimedia phones makes you able to enjoy watching the video and music with it. The question is, how’s to do to convert that videos and what are the best setting used for. I have convert many videos into my phone, I found that most video files can play with this phone such as mp4, 3gp, rmvb and flv files. But of them plays well but some are not. After many tries, I finally got the best results for Nokia video files. My video in 5800 was full screen, high quality and sounds very well. Here are my settings:
    Video Resolution: 480*320
    Video Bitrate: 768 kbps
    Audio Bitrate: 128 kbps
Video Format: MPEG-4 (be sure not to use H264, as it’s not supported in the current firmware)
    Audio Format: MP3
    Audio Channels: 2 Channels
You can apply these settings above in whatever application you used when converting videos into 5800. Then I am sure you will get full screen, high quality and flawless video in your phone.
Settings for video playback on Nokia N97, N95, N85 and other Nokia phones.
Nokia N97: Video playback formats are 3GP formats, Flash Video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4; the video resolution is 360*640. Audio formats are AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV, WMA etc.
Nokia N96: video playback formats are 3GP, Flash video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, RealVideo, WMV 9; the video resolution is 240*320. Audio formats are AAC, MP3, WAV, WMA etc.
Nokia N95: video playback formats are MP4, 3GP. Video resolution is up to 640*480, audio format is AAC stereo.
Nokia N85: video playback formats are 3GP formats, Flash video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, and WMV. The resolution is 240*320. The audio formats are AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV and WMA etc.
OK, I will not list all settings of Nokia phones. If you are interested you may get more relative information on Nokia official website.
How to transfer video files into Nokia 5800
I have download some videos from video website such as Youtube, Google video. But I can’t watch these videos in my phone. As these videos were flv files, Nokia 5800 can’t play such videos. I use Internet Tablet Video Converter to convert it, but it shows “Unsupported Video File Type”. Then I got to know some best video converter  that seems professional for Nokia phone, I free download its trial version and tried it, and it works very well. Below are what I do:
Click Add button to add video files from your computer, set your videos according to the above settings and select Nokia 5800 Video MPEG-4 format for your video. Then just click convert button to start the conversion. After the conversion complete, you may watch these videos with Nokia 5800.
Also you may get music from video in this way. But pay attention to the format. As Nokia 5800 support mp3 audio format, you should select “MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)”.
How to convert DVD files into Nokia 5800
Obviously phones don’t have DVD drives, so to watch DVD on a phone you have to convert it into a video file on your PC then drag it into your phone. I also follow the above settings and convert DVD files into MPEG-4 video with Daniusoft DVD Ripper. the results are excellent.
After insert your DVD into the DVD Drive click the Open DVD button to upload DVD files on to this program. Click Settings button to set your videos according to the above settings I listed. Click Profile drop list to select “Nokia 5800 Video MPEG-4 (*.mp4)” format for your Nokia video. Then click Convert button to start the conversion. In few minutes the whole process will completed.
If you select audio format “MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)” you may also get music from DVD.
To transfer files into Nokia 5800
In the above tutorial I have explain you how to convert Nokia videos from DVD and other video files. Then you need to transfer these videos into your phone.
    1. Make sure your computer and phone are both switched on. Also make sure your 5800 have a memory card in its slot.
    2. Plug the small end of the microUSB cable into the phone’s USB socket, which s under a plastic flap in the top left corner.
    3. Plug the larger end of the microUSB cable into a USB port on your computer.
    4. On your 5800 it should ask which mode you wish to use. Choose “Mass Storage”.
    5. Open the memory card window (probably called “Removable Disk E:”), drag your video files into the video folder.
    6. After finished transfer files, do not disconnect the cable yet. You should make it safe to disconnect the cable. You may do this by click a small icon in the bottom right corner of the screen that appears when the phone is connected.
    7. After you have made the device safe to remove, you can unplug the cable at both ends.
Some useful tips to make the Nokia 5800's battery last as long as possible
Sometimes you may have to stop talking with your friend or watching videos with your phone as low power of your battery. It is more inconvenient if you are in travel and have no alternative battery. Here are some tips to make your phone battery last as long as possible when using telephone.
Do not switch the phone off. As switching a phone on uses far more battery power than simply leaving the phone on.
    Shut down unnecessary applications.
Turn down the 5800’s screen brightness to the lowest acceptable level.
Switch off your 5800’s screen when not in use.
Use headphones instead of speakers when listening to music or watching movies.
Avoid using the camera flash unnecessarily.
    Use 2G instead of 3G.
    Switch off Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi.'
Ok, I have typed out all my thoughts about Nokia 5800 here. Hope my tutorial is helpful to you. And all the other Nokia 5800 tutorials and useful how-to information should come here! It is welcome

Try backing up ur texts using phone's inbuilt file manager.it may work..

    Troubleshooting so far:
    ===============================================================
Uninstall Ovi and re-download from Nokia web. Reinstalled Ovi Suite but that didn't work.
I then uninstalled all Ovi and all Nokia related software, cleaned Registry and reinstall Ovi Suite: Failed to fix.
Then I installed Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.1 which worked just fine with 5800 XM (RM-356 V. 51.0.006). I had no problems making backups or to synchronize.
    ===============================================================
    How to solve this problem?

    LOL
I just tried Nokia Ovi Suite again to copy the full error report that it sends to Microsoft.... lo and behold it started to work again?????
    ======================================================
This I did before I tried

Then I installed Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.1 which worked just fine with 5800 XM (RM-356 V. 51.0.006). I had no problems making backups or to synchronize with Nokia PC Suite.
Made a complete backup on my phone.
Installed Nokia Software Updater and I reinstall the latest FW 51.0.006 to my phone.
Then I organized my content for a few minutes.
Shut down Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Software Updater.
    Started up Nokia Ovi Suite.
Connected my phone and clicked on PC-Suite on the options.
    It now works again????
Something happened when I installed PC Suite that enabled me to use my Nokia 5800 with Ovi Suite again.

  • Nokia 5800 and AVRCP issues.

    Hi ,
First of all I just regret having 5800 in the first place, I really pity nokia , they have lost all the respect I ever had for them.
Starting with the problem I bought a Jabra BT3030 few days back to use it along with my nokia 5800, Nokia 5800 does support AVRCP profile ( atleast they have mentioned it on their website http://www.nokia.co.in/find-products/products/nokia-5800-xpressmusic/specifications ) , 5800 ( Rev : 20.0.012 ) just fails to understand the remote play / pause / forward and backward tracks commands. Which I found to be working perfectly with Nokia E51/E71 and to my horror even the old N73 connects seamlessly.
I have tried with two of 5800 handsets ( even both having the same colour :-) ) and no wonder they had the same problem , I am not sure of the firmware revision of the other handset , but it wont be greater than 20.0.012 for sure.
    I had mailed this to nokia support regarding the problem and following was their reply;
"This e-mail is with regard to functionality of headset Nokia 5800. We regret the inconvenience caused. We would like to inform you that Nokia does not recommend the usage of non Nokia enhancement with Nokia product as it might hamper the optimal performance of the phone."
What a pity I must say, the people replying dont even understand the meaning of bluetooth standard's which have been written for AVRCP.
Please advice if anyone elseis also facing the same problem and how should I tackle this.
    Thanks and regards,
    Mahendra

  • Nokia 5800 XM and LACK OF Nokia 810 Contact Downlo...

I had nokia n82 with this app from nokia 810. I transferred contacts to my BT car kit and it worked perfectly. Now I cannot find such application and cannot transfer contact in any way. I read in forum several different ways, but it didnt help. I tried to install this: http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/product-support/nokia -810/software I tried to copy contacts by bluetooth (send contact by bluetooth as visit card - when the engine is on or off in any possible ways, reset default settings in car kit and in nokia) IT ALL didn't help. ANY SUGGESTIONS?? LETS MAKE NOKIA DEVELOPERS CREATE NOKIA Contact Download Manager(810) for 5800 XM !!!!!!!

  • Updates for Nokia X6, 5530 XM and 5800 XM

    Hello Nokia,
Nokia please give us more information about the announced updates you've promised us on the 29th of June.
We don't get any information about the updates, except the notice on 29 August.
Come on Nokia, release the update soon and don't ignore your faithful users!
    (http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/08/29/new-info-on-the-software-updates-for-symbian-5-0-and-3-2-d...):
New info on the software updates for Symbian 5.0 and 3.2 devices
GLOBAL – Last week we made some edits in the article published in June on the software updates for Symbian 5.0 and 3.2 devices. We have since then received questions about this topic from our readers, so we’d like to share some more information on the status of these updates. We’d like to confirm that the planned updates for Nokia X6, Nokia 5530 and Nokia 5800 are still to be released and we are currently working on getting the software ready to launch in some months.
As all three models are among our older devices, not all operators globally will test and approve the software update for these phones. This is the reason why we decided to remove the devices from the global posting. Availability of the software update for these phones will be determined at a local level.
    Best regards ,
    Nokia S60 5.0 users
