Nokia 5800XM GPS behevior

Hi all, i have nokia 5800XM and last week whenever i turn on GPS its shows that my location is in Finland, in Tampere or somthing and it shows that i am moving with 40-50 km/h.
Any solution for this?

Just to elaborate on post by farby which is advocating use of Integrated GPS positioning method only, whilst this will work eventually it can take quite a while to establish very first positional lock and you probably need to be outdoors; this method is targetted at users whom don't have a generous data download and don't want to run up bill especially when roaming.
An discrepancy of this much in position usually indicative of a location determined by cell tower triangulation, before device has accurately locked on to satellites.
You might like to look in Menu > Applications > Location > Positioning > Positioning server > Podsitioning server use - check if correct network access point is defined 3G/GPRS
The WiFi/Network positioning method added from OVI Maps v3.04 on is similar to Maps Booster application which uses Skyhook, where the location of WiFi access points and cellular towers is logged on database; the more users whom participate means the system grows in accuracy.

And so taking photos on the device. As you might expect, my tips are largely as they'd be for any other camera-toting smartphone, with just a few tweaks:
The easiest way to start the Camera application is to press and hold the camera shutter key. Because Camera is kept loaded in memory on the 5800, it should appear almost instantaneously, ready for action. (Note that if you haven't used your 5800 for a minute or so previously, you may need to flick the keylock switch first)
Don't worry too much about dust on the camera lens, a brief wipe on a soft cloth is all that's needed to get rid of any finger grease - if you get too zealous about cleaning the glass, you'll end up with hundreds of micro-scratches. These won't affect photos too much, but they will look ugly.
Don't worry about changing 'scene mode' or other settings, most of them don't make any difference.
As mentioned above, know that the 5800 XpressMusic's camera is on the small side, physically, so you'll need to have lots of light around to register on the small sensor. Sunlight is best, of course, but there are still wide variations in light levels on overcast days. Low light means potentially 'noisy' photos. And focussing won't be as accurate. Shooting snaps indoors will often produce disappointing results, but you may be able to help by hitting that big, thumb-friendly flash icon and setting flash to 'on'. This is called fill-in flash and for subjects a metre or so away in indistinct indoor lighting, can make a difference.
The usual photo-taking tips apply, as with any camera phone: try to brace yourself when taking a photo, so that the device doesn't shake; wait a fraction of a second after the shutter sound before moving the phone down; think about the source of light and try to have it in the arc behind you if possible; for important static shots, take more than one, just in case - one may be sharper, better focussed or more shake-free.
By default, geotagging of your photos is turned OFF. If you think you'll be wanting to place your photos on a map later on (e.g. on Flickr or Share on Ovi) then go into 'Options - Settings' and turn 'Show GPS info' on. As usual with GPS, be aware that getting a position fix may take a minute or so if you've moved a long way from the last time you used the phone's GPS. And it won't work indoors unless you're close to a big window and feely lucky... The geotagging algorithms do allow a certain time leeway, i.e. they'll accept a previous position fix provided it wasn't too long ago.
Tapping on the envelope icon is the shortcut to use to fire your photo up to the world immediately - but that's another tutorial for another day!

Welcome to the forum!
If you have created route upon device you can always synchronise it with Ovi, then go to maps.ovi.com and add waypoint to existing route and re-synchronise back to device if that is what you mean.

(You could need to repeat this for other profiles that you regularly use).

Nokia 5800XM - Live Mail Not Working in Nokia Mess...

It has been a long time since I have been using the Nokia Messaging Email to receive emails from my different email accounts includinga couple of Windows Live Mail accounts to my Nokia 5800XM and it was working like a charm till a couple of weeks age.
Since last couple of weeks I am not receiving email from my Windows Live Mail accounts, other account POP/IMAP are working fine but Windows Live Mail account are not working at all, none of them. I haven't changed any password or something, I don't know what is wrong but I am unable to receive email from WLM, even if I open mail app and manually do a Send/ Receive, it doesn't update my emails from my WLM accounts. I have even tried resetting the data from Nokia Messaging Email settings but for no avail.
Can someone help or update me in this regard, what's going on, is it just me or . ...

Although Internet works, Nokia Mail uses another configuration account. Therefore, please, double-check Nokia » Menu » Configuration » Active. Which network operator do you use, in which country?

Accessing my nokia 5800xm (xbox 360)

i used to b a ericsson fan but recently bought this phone n love it, i used to play music from my sony ericsson thru my xbox 360, but i am unable to do so with my nokia 5800xm via usb cable (even after selecting all the usb option available)...can any of u guys do the same????

Browser closes itself - NOKIA 5800XM

I want to share the problem with my NOKIA 5800XM and it is that while browsing the pages that have many meanings in this picture is a page with only pictures / galleries / funny and entertaining anybrowser closes itself.
I got the settings here but there remains a problem, someone has idya what can solve this horrible problem.
I tried with several browser as Opera .... But there is a similar problem, and makes me think that the phone can not work with pages that have many pictures.

Yes this is really stupid, I hope our colleagues from NOKIA to pay attention to this general bug as soon as possible.
I tested a few phone in 5800 the same page and it really has a problem there.
I did notice however that when run from java settings error report and then load the same page, enter some mistakes a miracle ....
therefore I think there is a problem of their browser-JAVA

WIFI proxy on nokia 5800XM

hi to all, i m currently using nokia 5800XM.in my college we use internet through WIFI but it have some proxy setting like proxy ip,port and username and password in nokia 5800xm we can do setting in destination but this setting is applied to browser only but it was not able to use ovi store and some other apps on wifi means it will not ask for username and password which is asked in browser ..... SO ANY ONE HAVE PROXY BY PASSER FOR MY HANDSET? PLZZZZZ HELP ME.

Ovi Store does not use the http proxy settings of access point. The web browser can "see" those proxy settings successfully, and it asks for login/password every time I run it. But the Ovi Store application does not recognise the proxy settings of access point. I tried to login to proxy using the web browser and then run Ovi Store at the same time, hoping that Ovi Store will be able to connect to Internet after that. NO SUCCESS.
This is a serious issue. I must not be forced to use the expensive mobile connection in order to use Ovi Store application (which obviously uses http protocol). Waiting impatiently for this issue to be fixed.
P.S. Considering another platform at this moment.

About Nokia 5800xm usage

Most of time I'm using my Nokia 5800xm (about 12hours per day). I mean I'm living with my phone.
so i wanna know any risk of using? will my usage harm to my phone. but I'm using it very carefully.

Backing-up the SD Memory on the NOKIA 330 GPS

Hi Guys,
I got myself the NOKIA 330 GPS Navigator yesterday (8/12/07) and with it I got a bonus free map download offer.
I have downloaded the map update fine from the NOKIA website, but the map upgrade installation instructions state that I need to back-up the files that are currently stored in the SD memory card.
I have connected the NOKIA 330 GPS to my PC using the supplied USB cable and tried to copy the files from the SD memory across to my PC folder, but it is not allowing me to do that and keeps coming-up with errors stating that the format of some files is not readable.
Is there another (correct) way of backing-up the SD memory or am I doing something wrong?
P.S. I would really like to upgrade the maps as the ones I downloaded seem to be more recent.

Just got my phone back after a Firmware reset. Now it can't connect to internet or ovi store. It keeps coming up with Invalid Server Name. Can anyone help

my nokia 5800xm is not getting updated ... when i reach to the install page through nokia pc suit its showing that connection with the data cable disconnected and then suddenly it gets connected.

Have you tried to repair "Nokia connectivity cable driver" (right click) under Uninstall or change a program?
You also should use Ovi suite.

Vlingo Plus for Nokia 5800xm

I installed Vlingo Plus from OVI Store on my Nokia 5800xm.. When I say call xyz.. It starts dialing to xyz.. but immediately (fraction of a second) 'Call Disconnected' is shown and 'No answer' message is displayed on the screen.. This happens while I try ANY number from my contacts..
Contacted the Vlingo support and was told to remove the battery for a few minutes insert and re-boot.. but the problem is still there.. Have given my feedback to Vlingo but in the mean time.. can someone suggest the solution ??

The one thru' the mods is still open but not so prompt it seems...a reply last received on 3rd Nov., 2010 with some comments of "sent higher up" .. but no progress since then...

TTS on NOKIA 500 GPS

Hi, I live in Toronto and just bought a Nokia 500 GPS. I must say that the device is quite good. my N72 is connected and working fine, FM transmitter is good, Navigation is good except I am struggling with TTS.
Though I selected English US language and Female Voice (TTS) but it does not work. GPS goes silent. I feel that the XML file i have got on the DVD is wrong. Can someone send me the Female Voice (TTS) XML file to compare mine.

Ovi Suite or Map Loader doesn't work with Nokia 500 GPS, there no map updates for this device at the moment. The only map that is available is the one that came on DVD in the box.
