Nokia 5800XM not playing WMA music files

Hi there,
I recently updated to the most recent s/w update for my Nokia 5800XM.
Before I did I had no problems playing my .wma music files.
However, since the update it cannot open them and just passes over them.
Any ideas how I could get them playing again?

As this are DRM files. I used Windows Media Player and I sync it with the phone. I have tested hard-resetting the phone with complete format. That did not change anything. License information are valid according to the phone. So I am rather sure that this is the video players fault, or a bug for that matter.

    WiseBird,
There might be several causes for that kind of erratic behaviour:
1st use Disk Utility to check your internal disk as well as the external one.
2nd Your Library database might be damaged
    - Quit iTunes
    - Goto ./Users/YourUserName/Music/iTunes
There will 2 files named something "Library" - move them to your desktop
    - Launch iTunes
As you're now starting from scratch, iTunes will offer to search for audio tracks - Don't let it.
    - Your iTunes should be "clean"
    - in iTunes Preferences - Advanced - General:
Point the Music Folder Location to the appropriate folder on your ext hd
Disable "Copy Files to iTunes music folder....."
    - Quit Preferences
    - From iTunes Menu - File choose "Add to library..." + select that folder on your ext hd that contains all your tracks.
    - All your tracks should be back by now in iTunes Library.
    - To get your playlists back: From iTunes Menu - File choose "Import" and open that .xml file that you moved to your desktop (might work but need not).

  • ITunes will not play all music files in music folder

My iTunes music folder is on an external HD. I have 4662 songs in the folder. iTunes plays approx. half of the files though the all of the songs show up in the iTunes player window. When I try to play a "lost" file, nothing happens, no "!" nor window telling me it can't find the file. When I go to the file and click on the song, iTunes adds another copy to the iTunes player window and plays the song. Recently, I clicked on all 2000 songs to get them to play and deleted the copies that didn't. The songs that won't play won't download to my pod. When I finished clicking on files and deleting copies, I updated my pod.
When I shut down the computer, it lost all the changes and it is back where I started! I connected my pod and it deleted all the songs that iTunes won't play. Any suggestions?

  • I've just changed from a PC to a mac and have a large number of downloaded WMA music files (not i-tunes purchases) which I just can't get into my i-tunes library. File converters don't seem to work either. Any ideas?

I've just changed from a PC to a mac and have a large number of downloaded WMA music files which I can't get into i-tunes. When the library was in Windows, i-tunes would convert the files automatically, but this doesn't happen now. I've downloaded a couple of file converters, but these don't seem to work either. Any ideas?

iTunes for Windows (but not iTunes for Mac) can import and convert unprotected WMA tracks. If the tracks are protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management) then it will not accept them.
One option would be to install iTunes on your PC, do the conversion, and then transfer the converted tracks from iTunes on your PC to iTunes on your Mac.

  • OVI music will not play any music on PC any more

    Hi there
I have 5800 CWM phone and the CWM licence expired in October 2010.  Tthat's fine, as I was able to keep playing the music I had downloaded on both my registered PC and the phone itself.
After a little while I  could no longer transfer music from PC to phone.  I have about 20GB of music and the phone has about 5GB of space for music so periodically I would transfer different stuff to the phone.
Then I started being unable to play some songs on the PC at all - licence problems for some songs while others would play OK.
Now I can not play any music on the PC at all.  I'm getting an error messge saying there is no licence, then an optimistic message saying "Your licence is being delivered" which would not happen.  Then I would get a message saying I needed to delete the song/album and redownload it from my download history.  I can see my download history but no longer have an option to re-download it - I  can only buy it.
Additionally I am now getting a messge saying that "We can't sign you in" and that I need an OVI Music account which I already have.  I can login to Ovi.com with it just fine.
This is starting to get really tiresome.  From having a handset which i could download any music for a year and keep after the year was up, on both the PC and the phone.  I now only have the music that is already on the phone.  The remaining music I can't access and indeed can't play any of it at all on the PC.
Does anyone else have this kind of problem that has been fixed?  BTW it is now a level 3 support problem with no fix in sight.  Sorry for the long post.
    Cheers
    Periwinkle

hi,I have the same problem and this, given the fact that i ave a one year unlimited licence for downloads. I am convinced that Nokia India is fooling people with these type of tactics and therefore I have consulted my lawyers to file a suit or Rs. 1.5 crores against the company for harming my legal interets as a consumer. I am confident that after this NOkia gets to know about my suit, they wil all stop this illegal practices of cheating the consumers.

  • How do i make it so iTunes plays the music files from where i have chosen to store them?

how do i make it so iTunes plays the music files from where i have chosen to store them as opposed to it scattering copies of my files into a myriad different folders based on the albums they came from when i'm not even interested in keeping whole albums?
I recently converted myself to mac after having been a windows formatted person since the beginning of time. I use last.fm and the client scrobbler only supports iTunes on the mac (scobbling since Nov 06 and i'm now heavily dependant upon it as a means of discovering new music) - if you don't know what that means then take it for granted i have no option other than to use iTunes as my media player whn using the mac. And almost immediately upon using iTunes i was filled with horror.
My tale of woe as follows: I copy all my mp3 files to folder X on my new mac. I copy my simple playlist in to that same folder X. The simple playlist simply lists all the files in folder X in the order i want to hear them in... simple right? And what happens the moment i start playing my simple list? Well you probably all ready know; itunes throws copies of all those files in to the air, scatters them to the four winds so each of them fall into a little folder of their own representing the album they might once have come from. I don't keep whole albums. For me the 'album experience' is a ruse to trick one into listening to weaker material. I only keep the concentrated goodness. I only put up with albums in a previous lifetime because in the days of vinyl i had no other choice apart from spending hours compiling mix tapes. Now i am liberated from these restrictions and have been for the 15 or so years i've been using a computer to listen to music. Until along comes iTunes forcing me backwards in time, frog marching me back into the past.
That simple list i mentioned is my one and only playlist. This single playlist has been evolving for 15 years as tracks are added and removed and their position in the list changes because that song sounds amazing when heard after that other song whereas hearing this song after that song would be like pouring custard over your sausages (for me shuffling is an abomination). And so here is how i've managed this list and managed synchronization of said list and listed files with my mp3 player (currently a Zen).
Adding a new file: After deciding that song is a keeper i will copy it into that simple folder that holds all my music and drop it in to a position on the list i deem most suited for it. Incidentally over this entire 15 year (i'm pretty sure it's been around that long) my media player has been winamp but for the reason previously mentioned i am unable to use winamp in mac world.
Removing a file: fortunately winamp has an option to simultaneously remove a file from the list and the hard drive. And naturally so because after all if i no longer like a song then i want it expunged completely from life or at least from my hard drive and playlist. In the brave new world of iTunes i have to remove from the list there then delete the file from where iTunes copied it from and then the place iTunes copied it to.
Editing the list: drag an item in the list to it's preferred location and select to save it as i would for any other file using any other application... well desktop type application as opposed to one that uses a database as its primary means of storage.
Syncing with the mp3 player: copy drag drop playlist file from the simple folder on the hard drive to the simple folder on the mp3 player as i would for any other file. And then also copy drag drop the most recently created files from simple folder on hard drive to simple folder on player after having ordered them by creation date so as to make it easier to select the most recently created. After a while the mp3 player will fill up with the files no longer on the list so i will delete all files from player then re-copy all flies from simple folder on hard drive to simple folder on mp3 player.
I do not make changes to the list on the mp3 player so synchronization needs only to go one way: from laptop to player.
So all very simple. Apart from editing the positions of files in the list everything is managed by copy drag dropping and deleting files using windows explorer.
But i'm in a mac and circumstances have forced me in to the corner of using iTunes. And this whole iTunes situation is terrifying for me as over the years i've heard horror stories about it deleting all of someone's music files. Perhaps this may have been by using the software incorrectly but even so, the very fact that it appears possible for this to happen simply by using the software incorrectly and the fact that it happens with some degree of frequency given the number of reports of this happening that i have heard of over the years on music discussion forums fills me with dread that i have to now use this software. And given the software's blatant disregard for the user's choice as to where to store his/her files it's no surprise that this happens. The software is pointlessly doing dangerous things with my data. Please make it stop.
Please can i just at the very least make iTunes play the music from the folder i have chosen to put my files in and not copy those files here there and everywhere without my say so? Thankyou.

option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. Thanks for the support.

  • ITunes 10.5 Won't Play wav Music Files

I installed iTunes 10.5.0.142 on Windows 7 64, SP1 and I can no longer play wav music files which have been in my library from the beginning. I have a mirror Windows 7 client that has iTunes 10.4 installed and it still plays the wav music files. My iTunes library is on a Seagate BlackArmor NAS device, so both clients are accessing the same music files. The problem is that iTunes 10.5 refuses to play the wav files, but iTunes 10.4 and all previous releases of iTunes played them without issue. Could someone advise on how to solve this problem, or is this a defect with iTunes 10.5? I  downloaded and installed iTunes 10.5 for Win on October 11th.
Also, after installing iTunes 10.5, I synchronized my iTunes library on my iPhone. The wav files play fine on the iPhone, but not on my Win 7 client with iTunes 10.5.
    Thanks for your help.

I just downloaded and installed iTunes 10.5.1.42 and all of my problems have been solved.
    All audio books now play
    All wav files play
Tinny sound reported by others seems much improved with this update
The updated version of iTunes launches much faster on Win 7 64bit SP1The download and update for 10.5.1.42 ran smoothly and the install/upgrade worked the first time.
    Thanks to all who helped.

  • IPhoto will not play iTunes music in slideshow

Slideshow I created in iPhoto will only play theme music.  When I select my music from iTunes, the slideshow does not play the music. I have made dozens of slideshows before without this problem.  Seems to be a bug with iPhoto now.  Any suggestions??

Assuming this is for iPhoto on your Mac:
Launch iTunes use the File -> Library -> Organize Library -> Reorganize Library menu option. Then quit and relaunch iPhoto.

  • ITunes not playing some music videos

My iTunes (ver. 10.1) will play the audio for some music videos but not the video. They are videos that were downloaded via the iTunes Store in the past and all but 2 are doing this and they are all the same format. No, I'm not using AirTunes! And I haven't exceeded my "authorizations" limit. I'm just trying to play the videos on my laptop with regular speakers. TV Shows and short films that I have work fine, and so do some videos that I got from outside of the Store. I tried opening them in Quicktime and it does the exact same thing, audio but no video. I tried repairing permissions and nothing changed. I even went back into my Time Machine and when I did that the files wouldn't work from there either, even though I know they worked a year ago! At first, it showed the file thumbnail, but when I clicked on it the thumbnail went gray. Any ideas what the heck is going on here???

Alright! Looks like the latest update to iTunes actually fixed my problem!
I noticed in the update notes that it was supposed to address certain problems with the graphics card (Nvidia 9400 and 9600) not playing certain video files correctly. I thought it was worth a try, so after I updated I played the videos that previously were not working and voila! They work now!
For those of you who had a similar problem I would try it with the iTunes 10.1.1 (4) update and see if they work. Otherwise, I guess you've got a different problem. Good luck!

  • Changing wma music files to mp3?

I am transferring songs from my PC to my mac and some are wma files that I need to change to mp3 so that I can put them in my itunes library and add them to my ipod. Itunes won't open wma music files on my mac....does anyone know how to transfer them from wma to mp3? (I tried clicking on "get info" and just changing from .wma to .mp3, but that didn't work....I need to convert somehow)
    Thanks so much!

Use EasyWMA to convert them. iTunes will not do this in Mac OS X, and no Mac software will if the WMA is protected.

I have my old music library from my PC and want to put it on my itunes library but the files are wma music files. I want to convert to mac format so I can add it to itunes??

No simple, ideal, free solution except you should have done it on the PC where Windows iTunes will do it for free.
Switch (free basic version) - http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html  - I'm not sure if this will do WMA
    All2MP3 - http://download.cnet.com/All2MP3/3000-2140_4-190407.html - mixed success with WMA
Flip4mac - need the intermediate payware version which lets you convert.  Use with Quicktime player.
VLC - not really a converted but will do some in the export menu but may be slow and a bit of a learning curve.
Explore online converters where you upload a file in one format and download in another.
I'm not sure if your computer can run Audion 3  I think I used to use it to convert WMA.

iPod will not play any music. Seems like it is in “Pause” mode.  No sound from either the head phones or internal speaker.  I have 418 songs stored and none will play. I have tried resetting, turning on and off the iPod, etc. but to no avail.

Try restoring from backup. Next would be a restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
