Nokia 6165i not supported by iSync

I'm disappointed that my new Nokia 6165i is not supported by iSync (according to both the Apple and Nokia websites). Is anyone aware of any third-party software that will allow me to sync my Address Book with this phone? How can I lobby Apple to include this phone among the supported devices in the next version of iSync?

Did you check for iSync compatibility before choosing to purchase this phone? Could've saved yourself the disappointment...
PhoneDirector may work with your phone according to the footnote on the bottom of this page:
http://www.macmedia.sk/pd.htm
...although thats a general phone management application, it won't enable iSync support.

Yes. You just need to install an *iSync Plugin* for your phone to add iSync support for it.
Google for "nokia 6500s isync plugin" and take your pick from a variety of options.

  • Nokia E50: "This device is not supported by iSync"

Just purchased Nokia E50 (series 60 smartphone) but I'm unable to add it to my iSync devices. I keep on receiving this message, "This device is not supported by iSync."
I purchased it because it was listed as a compatible device on http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html
    I'm using iSync Version 2.3
Very keen on getting it to work/sync.
    Please help.

You might be better off getting a new cell phone. From what I can gather, the W490 is quite old. If your cell phone plan's expiration date has passed, it should be easy to convince your cell phone carrier to replace your cell phone with a compatible version for little or no money simply by telling them that you will switch to another cell service provider if they can't give you a good deal on a new cell phone, but of course, make sure it is compatible with iSync on Snow Leopard. Here is a pointer to Apple's iSync device compatibility guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2824

  • What am I supposed to do with a bluetooth cellphone not supported by isync?

I recently purchased a Nokia 6021 which is not supported by isync. After hours of search on the net and in this forum, I have found only one solution that would allow me to sync this Nokia with my address book. This solution (a piece of software) would cost 30$US....I am not willing to shell out 30$ US for a mediocre workaround.
What I wonder is this: what is a blutooth cell phone good for if I can not sync it with my powerbook G4?
Are there other uses for bluetooth?
Does anyone know a cheap workaround?
I emailed feedback to Apple but realistically I do not expect them to add support for this phone...after all, all it takes is a few lines of script and if they did not add support so far I doubt they will do so in the future....

    It's hard to say what's best…
I'm no mobile handset expert, but I've heard lots of complaints about the design shortcomings of the Motorola contacts application: about the limit to the number of records it can hold, and the fact that each telephone number—even for the same individual—is treated as a separate contact record on a Motorola unit, making the record limitation an even greater problem. One record in your OS X Address Book with three telephone numbers results in three contact records on a RAZR, for example.
I would take a serious look at smartphones, like the Palm OS-based Treo 650, the Windows Mobile 5 OS-based Treo 700w, or any other Windows Mobile OS device. I'm not a big fan of Windows Mobile, but these units are powerful when it comes to contacts and calendars. There are also Symbian OS-based units like the SONY Ericsson P910 product family that may appeal to you. I've generally heard very good things about the SONY Ericsson product line.

  • Nokia offers FREE plug-ins for some devices not supported by iSync 2.4

Nokia is now offering free plug-ins for otherwise unsupported Nokia mobile handsets in Mac OS X 10.4.9 and iSync 2.4 configurations. All support both Bluetooth and USB synchronization, and work only with Mac OS X 10.4.9 and iSync 2.4, bundled with it. The plug-ins listed below can be downloaded from Nokia here:
    http://www.nokia.com/A4299040
    Supported models include the…
    • E50
    • E60
    • E61i
    • E65
    • E70
    • N76
    • N93i
    • N95

That's a good point, and I should have taken the time to point that out.
It's not particularly important that Nokia has chosen to offer free plug-ins for a limited number of their mobile handsets not presently supported by iSync. The really important thing here is that a manufacturer has actually chosen to support the technology at all!
I do support a vibrant developer community, and think that Nova Media and others who have taken the time to create plug-ins and, who continue to support them, deserve to be compensated for their efforts. It worth noting that Nova Media was out front with support for Nokia mobile handsets about a year before Nokia itself chose to offer support. And, as Jan points out, they continue to support units that Nokia itself does not.

  • Nokia 6682 not recognized by iSync (using usb cable)

Isync does not recognize my new Nokia 6682 when using a USB cable. My Powerbook does not have Bluetooth. I also don't see an icon on the desktop or any other evidence that the phone is connected to the powerbook. Do I need to change any settings on the phone or the powerbook?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Synchronization and file transfer to Nokia supported mobile handsets and smartphones is not supported via USB - you must instead use Bluetooth. As a general rule, such events are supported via USB only with Motorola mobile handsets.
To address you issue, you should purchase a D-Link DBT-120, the only third-party external USB Bluetooth module explicitly supported by Apple. You can learn more about Bluetooth in the Bluetooth Other Devices forum, here:

  • Samsung E900 firmware E900XGA2 not supported by iSync

Samsung E900 uses SyncML technology which is behind iSync yet the application states is unsupported. How come Samsung phones are not listed in iSync as not supported. This makes no senses to me. I can sync my contacts, images, messages using anything on the MAC.

Just because iSync uses SyncML and a particular phone uses SyncML doesn't mean the phone will automatically work straightaway, unless support for that specific phone model is included as standard.
That's where iSync Plugins come in. They allow iSync to identify a particular phone, and tell it how to map fields between Mac and Phone.
novamedia produce iSync Plugins for many Samsung phones, including the E900:

  • MOTOROKR Z6 not supported by iSync 2.4 despite in Supported Devices list.

    Hi All,
I purchased the Motorola ROKR (Z6) because it appears in the list of supported devices of iSync 2.4:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html
(Z6 is not mentioned explicitly but ROKR is). It is a great disappointment and waste of money that this phone is not supported. Any ideas, help or explanations?
    Much appreciate!

Dear Raju, good advice - many thanks!
However, OnSync is not working for me despite of having configured the serial device successfully. I am talking to the developer.
It would be of interest to us how you managed. Would you be able to help and contact us directly through e-mail i.e. <[email protected]>. Thanks a lot! We can post a summary of the problem solution later on to help others using the same device.

  • Nokia 5310 not supported by Pc Suite

I have a nokia 5310 which came with a pc suite cd.I installed it folling the instructions. However after connecrting my phone via usb cable, and tried to transfer music the interface said it does not support my phonse model.I tried all the updates and none worked.I am able to sync with media player and drop and drag.

I had the exact same problem, with an unlocked 5310 music xpress. I downloaded and reloaded the latest version of PC Suite multiple times on different computers. I gave up for a couple of months then decided to search the net for any help.
This simple fix is what actually worked for me.
    1. Turn off phone and remove sim card and memory card
    2. Restart phone without sim card or memory card loaded.
    3. connect to pc suite and see if it recognises phone and it works propperly.
    4. Disconnect phone and reinstall sim card and memory card.
    5. Reconnect to Pc Suite and it should work fine now.
It worked for me, hope it helps you.

  • My Nokia 3110 is not supported by iSync- How do I export my address book?

    Hi everyone,
Is there any way to upload and access my address book to my brand new Nokia 3110 classic, until Apple update iSync to support this device?
    Thanks for the help.
    Thomas

What version of OS X are you using, and what model AirPort Extreme do you have? Look on its case for a four digit model number preceded by the letter A.
To find out the version of OS X you are using, go to the Apple () menu and select About This Mac.

  • Nokia E65 not connecting to isync

I'm trying to connect my nokia E65 to my mac (running os x 10.5) and isync won't recognise it. I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm using the data cable to connect and have tried connecting in pc suite and data transfer mode, neither modes work. I have also downloaded and installed the isync update from nokia for the E65. That didn't work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't tried to do it via the cable, but my isync works perfectly via Bluetooth, have you tried it that way?

  • Nokia is not supporting PRO_CMD_SEND_USSD

    Hi ,
I am trying to send ussd string through STK.
I am able to send it through sony ericssion handset but not able to send Nokia handset.
Guys do you know that nokia supports PRO_CMD_SEND_USSD command or not?

    Dear vikascyadav,
You can check it from Terminal Profile (CLA=0xA0, INS=0x10) that every Phase 2+ ME sends to the card. Proactive command bits are in 3-4 bytes of Terminal Profile. I remember Nokia 3310 has troubles with USSD.

  • Nokia smartphones not supported by IT Dept

    Hi Folks,
My IT Dept will not enable active sync on an exchange account for a Nokia phone. They only support Blackberries, Windows Mobile and iPhones. Is there some way (or App) to get around that?
I heard there are apps that you can run on your PC that runs Outlook and then use that to receive email notifications on your phone.
Anyone know of such an app?
    Thanks

I am sorry, I forgot to mention that I had the 5800 Express Music. I've already tried MfE and it won't work unless my IT dept enables something on my account on the server side. And they won't do that for Nokia phones.
I have the same problem with my work.
They insist I get a work Blackberry before they will enable my email account to accept MfE connections, even tho I can use my phone to access my emails via the company website
I'm probably going to have to get the BB and throw it in a draw somewhere, tho TBH using PCSuite aver a bluetooth dongle from my work desktop is working fine with syncing contacts and callender
But yeah no way around unless your IT people enable the account,
