Nokia 6233 - Display Cracked on Charging

I purchased a Nokia mobile model 6233 on sep 7th 2007. at Univercell shop at Velacherry, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Within one week of its purchase, the hands free did not work. When I approached the velacherry Univercell showroom, they asked me to go to Univercell Showroom at Alwarpet. On Sep 20th night 12 pm I plugged the mobile for charging it in the same plug point where I have been charging all mobiles for years. But I was shocked to see the display broken the next day morning. When i approached the service centre at Univercell, the service person talk was very cold and unfriendly. Never expected such a bad response from a dealer shop of high profile mobile brand like. Again after 2 hours of persuasion, they asked me to shuttle to Velacherry showroom of Univercell and talk to them. When we approached the velacherry show room, they again made us wait for a long time and finally agreed to make a jobsheet to Nokia. The response like this from dealers of Nokia is totally irritating, they are not even ready to look into the issue and right away dispensing off as the customers fault and not ready to take it as apossibility of manufacturing defect. I hope you understand the customers frame of mind after purchasing it for 8.5k and immediately finding that its a faulty piece. I request you to look into this issue. I have also attached the battery model and handsfree set along with the mobile unit.

A power surge (voltage spike) will NOT cause a cracked LCD! The device is protected by a circuit that will fail (causing an open circuit on the charger input) at anything above 18 volts therforeprotecting anything ele in the phone including the LCD. The LCD failure will co-incedental possibly due to a weak LCD, thermal shock or physical damage. If the glass of the LCD is intact and the LCD has simply "leaked" internally and there is no sign of external damag to the phone then Nokia normaly cover that under warranty otherwise they will consider it customer damage (as 99.9999% of it always is) and not cover it under warranty! I am not saying that this particular occurence is customer damage but it is rare to be anything else!

Can anyone give me any clues as to why this has just started to happen?
I also received the same message when i used the car charger.
I have had the phone for quite a while and have never had this problem before.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

It's either a software fault or hardware failure.
Backup everthing you want to keep then download and install the nokia software updater:

  • Display should be always On in Nokia 6233

    Hi,
My Mobile model is Nokia 6233, I want to put power on for always to display light on my mobile.
I had tried with different kinds of options, but I could not get the correct way....., Can any one tell me how to do that...
So that my mobile will have always on "Power On"

There is no such way to do that as far as I know
This is to prevent the battery from draining so fast, so the backlight on every mobile phone goes off in 5-10 seconds

  • Nokia 6233 v05.10 odd behaviour

    Hello!
After thoroughly searching not only this board but the entire Internet, I found no answer to my question so I decided to register and ASK.
I need to know if any of you owners of a Nokia 6233 observed this odd behaviour of your phone - so please keep reading.
I purchased the phone 16 days ago. Being my first Nokia, I took time to exploit its every feature, therefore draining the battery quite quickly. I discharged and fully charged the battery at least 3 times in the first 3 days, without leaving it plugged-in overnight (as far as I know this is no longer necessary). The battery life time increased progressively until a maximum of three days of normal use, meaning moderate talking (under 20 minutes per day), little or no use of Java apps, camera, media players or GPRS/EDGE connection. The screen savers are off, power saver is on, sleep mode is on. Packet data connection - when needed and network mode is GSM only because I do not use 3G. All these should get me the best stand-by time possible, right? Well, they did, until...
I bought a new microSD card, 2.0 GB storage, made by SanDisk. The card works fine, I put my favorite music and video clips on it - all the stuff you do when you have enough space. Since then, the battery life decreased SUBSTANTIALLY to LESS THAN 24 HOURS. And there's more. The battery drains even if the phone is turned off, in roughly the same amount of time. I have never ever seen anything like this. Sometimes the battery is so low that the phone takes a few minutes before displaying the battery charging icon and, when started, it asks for hour/date settings.
So, I need to know if anybody else noticed battery life decrease with bigger memory card capacity, and what's to be done.

Have you tried using the in-box memory card(That came with the phone) again? There's something wrong with your phone and battery if the problem still occurs..

  • Daylight saving in the NOkia 6233 ?

Does the Nokia 6233 support Daylight Saving ? If yes, how can I set it in my phone ?

It doesn't do it automatically, like a PC...it isn't that clever. You need to change it yourself. Be sure to set the time zone rather than change the clock, otherwise the phone may display incorrect times for SMS messages etc.

People...you should learned your lesson about Nokia service...you know they do not respond...they do not care...I mean they do but in their terms. It does not make sense to me either but I gave up trying to reach them. I updated my 6233 phone today from 4.90 to 5.10. It was available today. So the question is: why did they make it available IF they saw the mess it is so far? Would I ever get an answer? No. Do they care? No. So...relax...there is no sugar!

The 6233 is an old long since discontinued model. There will be no further software updates for it. Sorry to say it but it is the truth.  The developers have moved on to newer version of the operating system now that run on the newer models.
Perhaps it's time you moved on to a more modern model? The Nokia X2, 6303i or 6700c are modern equivalents.

  • My nokia 6233

i've got a nokia 6233 that the warrenty has just expired on. it has now decided to play up. i have replaced the battery and brought a new charger but it still wont charge. it also will not connect with other bluetooth users. any ideas ?

Try a software update or take it to a nokia care point.
The 6233 has a 2 year warranty in most countries and it hasn't been available for that long so your warranty may still be valid.

  • Nokia 6233 lost calculator

hello everybody: I lost the calculator, which used to be part of Organizer menue, it used to be NO.5 on the menue. I updated the phone firmware, but it is still missing. anybody know how do i get it back. I wont to thank nokia team for adding 6233 to the list of phone updater, I'm more satisfied with the device now, it's faster and more reliable.

The Nokia 6233 Can be Updated or re-insstalled using the Nokia Software Updater here:
    http://europe.nokia.com/link?cid=PLAIN_TEXT_14905
Back up your phone and then download the updater and re-install the software on your handset.
This should then restore the software to its factory default settings.
If the updater says that no software is available, this does not matter, just tick the box shown in the display and download and re-install it.
This should then put all the applications back in the original places and your calculator should have returned.
If this is not the case then the handset is faulty and you should follow Psychomania's advice and take your handset to a Nokia Service Point.
lamtapioca - Do not post your IMEI number in an Open forum as this comprehmises your handset - unless one of the moderators sees it then you should remove it.

Maybe you could find some third party plugin for your phone? I have found one for the N73. Try MacMonster's site
As I do not currently own a Mac, I cannot test operability for myself. But most users whom I know to have used the plugin reported no problems. This plugin enables you to sync your phone with iSync. As I said, I have found a plugin for my N73. Who knows you might be lucky for your 6233!
    Break a leg!
Edit: Click EDITED to download the suitable iSync plugin for your phone. Note that the site is in German. I'll provide the English installation instructions (which you can also find on the developer's site) below:
    1. Protect if possible all data (contacts, notes, pictures and dates) of both devices
    2. Delete your telephone from the device list of Bluetooth and iSync!
    3. Switch Bluetooth off on Mac and at the mobile phone
    4. Quit iSync, if this is opened
    5. Copy the directory “PhonePlugins” (marked green) including contents with Apple (Command) + C and insert it into the highest LIBRARY on your hard disk
    6. If the directory already exists, then only take the contents from my (the developer's) directory into the existing directory “PhonePlugins”
    7. Pair the Phone with your Mac and start iSync

  • Nokia 6233 music files transferring issue

I tried transferring some mp3 files into my nokia 6233 using Nokia PC suite's Audio manager. But after selecting all the files I need to transfer and clicking transfer to phone button, the files get listed in the bottom pane where the status is displayed. After that the transferring status is automatically becoming "cancelled". What may be the problem??? I am using a Nokia DKU-2 USB cable... there is no problem while transferring images ets from the phone to PC.. The only problem is with transferring music files from my PC to the phone (BTW I dont have a SIM as of now... is it necessary to have a sim for transferring files into the phone???)

You do not need a SIM card.
Try copying the music accros with the windows explorer while your phone is connect to the PC in Data Storage mode.

It sounds like your 5800 has the earpiece fault that was common with 5800's made before February.
You need to take it to a nokia care point for repair under warranty.
