NOKIA 6280 charging, dust inside screen and shutti...

HI,
my phone will only charge from the mains if i lay it on its side and wiggle the power connector about??!!!
I also seem to have dust and dirt inside the top left hand corner of the screen
ans if im browsing the net,or sending a text message the phone will just literally power off..then come back on after approx 5 secs..
any ideas???
its never been dropped and is only about 6 months old????!!
Help guys

Dust inside is only remedied by taking the handset into your local nokia repair centre ,as your handset does not support express covers. So if you did try to remove the cover yourself the 2ry limited warranty would become invalid.
Regarding the issue of charging it could either be your charger or handset. If you have a spare charger then try that. It could also could be because the connecters on the handset have dirt/dust etc inside them.
Again the repair centre would clean these and check the connections out too.

  • Dust inside Screen, any experiences (and my story)?

I have a late 06 17" MBP that has exhibited dust inside the screen for about 6 months now. I haven't had a good time to take it into the apple store until yesterday (since I knew it would have to be sent off and I'd be without for a week or so). I know its dust and not dead pixels because of the fact that when it first happened, if I closed the screen and walked around with it in my bag, the spots would have moved when I reopened, some would appear farther up the screen, some closer to the bottom, and maybe sometimes 1 or 2 of them would disappear. All in all when I took it in, I had about 20 or so spots that make looking for dust in my Canon 1Ds pics, a frustrating practice at best.
So anyway, I make an appointment and speak to a Genius, he sees the issue clearly, and of course says he'll have to send it off, but tells me that they may not cover this and call me with a quote to replace the screen, but he'll write it up as if its covered and see if they come back with something different.
What I don't get is how this could not be covered. I've owned several laptops, for years, 2 dells, an IBM, a 17" sony vaio, 2 gateways, a toshiba, etc, etc, etc, pretty much all laptops for the past 10 years in my house. NONE of these have ever done this, all obviously in the same environment. How could this not be a defect thats covered under my apple care agreement (expires 1 year from this December)? But I'm getting ahead of myself, as far as I know at this time, it will be covered, but I will keep this thread up to date.
Here is what the Genius wrote down for my order:
    A. Customer Issue(s): Small dark spots at the bottom middle of screen
    B. Steps to Reproduce: Verified at the bar
    C. Troubleshooting: N/A
    D. Time to failure: N/A
    E. Unsuccessful Fixes Attempted: N/A
    F. Cosmetic Condition at Genius Bar: Slight dent on back left corner and screen does not sit flush
    G. CS Code Number: N/A
    H. Configuration: MBPRO 17/2.33/2G/160/256VRAM/SD-DL (even though I have 3gb in it, but not from the store that way)
    I. Password: N/A
    J. UserName: N/A
    K. Known Liquid Damage(Y/N): None evident
    L. Other Notes: N/A
I know I've seen other posts about this dust inside screen issue, has anyone ever been denied a repair for this while under warranty?
And one more question, apparently these LCD units are not factory sealed? If this dust came from my environment, and did not originate from within the panel (thus not covered), is there anyway (if it comes back not fixed) that this could be cleaned out? I mean if it gets in there, there has to be a way to get it out right? I hope to write back soon with good news that its all covered, but just in case I might as well start looking at options, (geeze I'm such a pessimist)
I'd love to hear if anyone has any similar stories.
    Thanks!

That seems logical. If there is some small opening in the bottom to allow air to get inbetween the top and a lower layer inside the lcd panel, then it might not be possible to open it up to clean it out. I'm hoping that if its not fixed by apple, that there might be a way to do just that, regardless or risk of breaking the display. If I did break the display, I'd have to buy a new one, and if they don't fix it I'll have to buy a new one, so either way... I might just have to be the first to try such a thing, who knows, might be able to fix it myself...
And as far as being negative, no worries, I'm negative enough for all of us, or should I say scared my favorite laptop ever (and most expensive) won't be fixed...

  • Cost to have dust inside screen cleaned?

I hate making phone calls so was wondering if anyone else knew the cost to have Apple clean dust that may have gotten trapped inside the LCD screen. I have an annoying dust dot that is in the middle of the screen and I'd like them to get rid of it, but that would involve removing and then putting the screen back on.
Any idea on how much that would cost? My macbook is 2 years old and no warranty.

Thanks I guess I figured that. It's just frustrating no apple stores in my city and I don't drive so can't get to other apple stores. I believe you can mail them in for repair but that's a whole other nuisance and they'd probably charge you just to send it. I wish there was an apple store near me I could go to!

  • Blackberry Curve 9320 - Dust in screen and will only charge on a certain angle

I have had the phone for 4 months now and already in the first week of using it I noticed that dust had started to come into the underside of the screen. Its on the left hand side near to the charger socket and also that little hole above it. I have no idea how dust can get into the screen but my friends have exactly the same phone and don't have a problem with it? What can I do to solve the dust problem? Also when I plug in the charger into the phone it will only charge on a certain angle! What is the problem? I thought Blackberry's were meant to be reliable and trustworthy but I don't think they are at all! I am truly disappointed in this product! A phone should be reliable without any problems at all! And I have only had it 4 months! Some please help me. Thanks, Steven

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Devices designed, build, and operated by humans cannot expect to be 100% perfect. From what you describe, I'd deduce that you are simply the unlucky recipient of one of those defects -- but one defect (among millions) hardly rates something to be so negatively thought of, does it?
Now, if you've already sought formal help from your provider/reseller, then you may have cause for distrust. But, if this is your first attempt to resolve this unlucky situation, then I recommend you not try to fix this yourself...rather, head right down to your provider and insist on warranty-level evaluation and support.
    Good luck!

  • Spec of dust inside screen?

Hello folks, quick question. Well first, let me explain!
I was cleaning my Macbook 13 inch unibody LCD screen, as I do every night, and I noticed a.. dot on it. The LCD was off, so I knew it wasn't the pixels. I ran my finger over the dot, and perfectly smooth which would be odd if it was a scratch. So I am left to believe it is behind the glass and I assume it's dust. I bought my Macbook late december.. any idea what Apple will do? I already made an appointment at the genius bar.
    Thanks in advance!

Went to the bar today, they replaced my screen, free of charge!

  • Nokia 808 Pureview camera issues: ISO and shutter ...

    Hello,
From time to time I have experienced some issues with the 808. I am not really concerned with the hang and reboots but it is irritating when the camera does not work as you expect it to
    1) Random hang and reboots: Can' really reproduce on demand but have seen it happen when you are using the camera and an SMS comes. I have seen more often when I am getting loads of messages on Whatsapp at once when camera is also on. The notifications keep popping up at the top and the entire phone goes for a toss. The screen might just go blank and only option is to reboot. Also at times the screen goes blank and you see the scrolling dots at the bottom just like when the phone boots.
It may be a whatsapp issue but I have also seen the phone hang reboot when not using whatsapp
    2) Dark pictures when adjusting ISO:
->Pictures(1 & 2) of the cat were taken at SAME ISO settings. You can clearly see how one picture is bright like you would expect but the second pic is totally dark. Why this difference with the same exact settings?
NOTE: If you check the properties of these 2 images, the ISO is the same but the Exposure time on the bright picture is 2.9 seconds wheras the dark one is 1/3 seconds.
->The second set of picture(3 & 4) was taken outside in daylight. The bright picture is taken at ISo-50. It came out as expected. Then I increased it to ISO-800. As you can see the picture is completely dark in broad daylight.
Note: Image properties of the bright picture shows exposure 1/143 seconds and the dark picture shows 1/2146 seconds ??? Now thats a very fast shutter speed
-> SLOW automatic shutter speed: As mentioned in http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nseries-and-Symbian-Smartphones/Several-severe-Issues-with-the-Nokia...
Pictures of objects in motion are always blurry. Also I assure you my hand isn't shaky. Even i think the auto shutter speed is very low because almost every moving object i click is blurred. Dont expect it from this camera.
Check out picture number 5. It was taken in Creative mode with everything set to AUTO. There is sufficient light however you can see the face on the right is blurred. As you can see, a perfectly good moment could not be captured perfectly because of this blur. The head wasnt too fast to cause such a level of blur. Its almost impossible to take sharp live action shots because of this.
-> Shutter sound lag: Again from:http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nseries-and-Symbian-Smartphones/Several-severe-Issues-with-the-Nokia...
When clicking with low ISO settings, the shutter takes more that 2-3 seconds but the shutter sound comes as soon as you click. Because of the sound the subject things that picture has been clicked and moves causing blurred pics. Can you make the sound come only AFTER the picture has been completely clicked.?

I am only to be able to help you on the pictures part.
1 and 2. I do notice that the picture 1 is brighter compared to the picture 2. It is hard to say that the sky was focused on the picture 2 as the sky is blurred, which means the cat is right in focus. But, you can make them brighter by increasing the exposure value and the ISO. Another possibility is you're focusing on the sky but it is out of focus.
For number 3 and 4, try it again, just to make sure. It shouldn't work like that.
For picture 5, try increase the exposure value as this may decrease the shutter lag. Another way to frezze the moving objects is by using the Xenon flash.
    Hope this helps.
If I have helped you in any way, give me a kudos!

  • Light leak, dust under screen AND dented back.

Two weeks ago I purchased a second generation iPod touch. First thing I noticed after taking it out of the packaging was a rather neat dent on the backplate. I decided not to worry about it, as it would be in a case most of the time and hence it wouldn't be seen. Earlier today I started noticing a lot of dust underneath the glass, though on top of the LCD screen -- INSIDE the iPod. Taking it out of the case for the first time since I got it, I noticed light shining through between the glass and the chrome bezel on the right hand side of the iPod, no doubt this is where the dust got in.
It was bad enough a brand new product was already dented when it was shipped, but I'm really annoyed that it has other hardware flaws as well. I know I cannot prove that Apple dented it, even though I can say I **** well didn't, but the light leak seems like a major hardware flaw, no less when it's letting a huge amount of dust into my AUS$420 device. This has to be able to be fixed under warranty, right?

It was bought from the online Apple Store.
I'm just hoping that they'll do something about it; I know that there's some people that damage things themselves and try and return them, and it affects it for people that do have genuine claims like myself.
One thing that pains me is that I got it as a graduation present from my parents, the second is that this is the THIRD iPod that I've had problems with over 2007 and 2008 (half way through last year my 30GB iPod's hard drive failed, it was only seven months old, and earlier this year my 1st generation iPod touch had to be replaced because it kept freezing). I guess I've just had bad luck, because I've always taken absolute care of my iPods...they've always been in cases, never been dropped, never been in a position where they could be damaged.

  • Problem with nokia n95 lcd. Black screen and flex ...

Hi i have a nokia n95. I have it since its first year in the market. I am very pleased with the phone but the last month sudenly when i slide to open the phone's screen was not responding. The actual phone was working great. I could receive calls and make calls, listen to music and everything else. The screen was black though. As i am a technician with experience on iPhones mostly i thought that the lcd was damaged. So i ordered one from the internet and 2 days ago i received it. When i installed it i had the same problem. The phone works but the screen not. Then i completely dissaseblied the phone for one more time and i noticed something that i hadn't before at the flex cable. The flex cable consists of 2 flat cables. Well the one is completely broken. Take a look at the following pictures and please tell me you opinion. I am 99.9% sure that this is the cause of the lcd problem. I want to tell me if i should buy the flex cable. I can't go to a nokia center because the phone is out of the warranty over 2 years now. So the only option is to change it on my own.

The flex cable is damaged. Some years back when I had a Nokia N95 8GB the flex cable was damaged and for a few days the screen was showing strange colours at the display and eventually the screen became black. I went to a local repair shop and I replaced the flex cable and what I noticed was that the flex cable that it had no proximity sensor on it so I told the technician to remove the proximity sensor on the original one and replace it with the new flex cable. Another thing I discovered was that after fitting the flex cable and returning the cover the front camera was not in its usual position so the technician had to do some modifications to get it back to its normal position and after a few months it was damaged and this time I went to Nokia Care Centre and replaced the flex cable for a small fee and what I noticed was that the flex cable that I previously bought was a fake cable. The one bought from Nokia Care Centre had its proximity sensor and when the cover was returned the camera was in its exact position the same as it was with the original flex cable. What I wanted to say is that please beware of fake flex cables on the market and I suggest that you buy it from an authorised Nokia Dealer.

  • Dust inside screen?

My Mac is over 2 years old, so maybe this is why I dunno.
But there's a noticeable on light backgrounds dust dot in the MIDDLE of the fricken screen. I can see it when the comp is off
How did it get to the middle of the screen? And how come if it got to the middle of the screen it won't move to the bottom or top so it's not as much as an annoyance?
Anyway was wondering if anyone else had problems with dust in the screen. I know some people know how to remove the screen but I do not want to try that as I'd mess it up. Could you have your comp sent to apple to fix? Has anyone tried a method that works? I've tried shaking it a little (I'm careful) to see if the dust would move but it is stuck in place. Again if it won't move now how did it ever get there in the middle to begin with?

That's been an issue on some Q5's. All you can do is return it to your place of purchase for warranty.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Hi Gammer576775!
Here is an article that will help you troubleshoot this issue with your iPod touch:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2771
Will not power on, or will not turn on unless connected to power
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Connect the iPod touch to an Apple USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if the display turns on and…
The home screen appears, the device should be working. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen: . Then disconnect the device from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears even after the iPod touch has charged for at least 20 minutes: See the "iPod touch displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or low-battery image appears , continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPod touch did not turn on, reset it while connected to an Apple USB power adapter. If the display turns on, go to step 4.If the display remains black, go to the next step.
Restore the device. Connect it to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes it and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPod touch. If the device doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring it, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPod touch resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring it did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

  • Dust under screen and a scratch!

Hi there, I recently purchased a new iMac 21.5" which I love to bits, I upgraded from a 15" MacBook Pro which although is a great machine, it's just too small for me.
Anyhow, I've recently noticed that there is a light scratch which is deeper than a graze (you can feel it with your nail) almost in the center of the screen! I only noticed this as where my Mac is placed the sun sometimes reflects off it in the middle of the day, and the light pointed this scratch out like a sore thumb.
Not only this but because I like to keep my screen free from dust I noticed there are are couple of specs of dust under the screen, admittedly these are only very minor but even so, I don't expect to pay £900+ for something from Apple to find dust embedded under the screen.
Will they sort this out under the guarantee?

My guess would be no, because there's no real easy way to prove that this wasn't caused by you... But I also say you have nothing to really lose by at least trying. If they say no, they say no, but they might say yes. May as well at least give it a quick try.

  • Dust under screen and Dead Pixels on new MBP...

I got a new Macbook and, aside from the fact that it was missing the P key, there was a new manufacturing defect I hadn't seen before, (must be from the new process), wherein dust was trapped behind the glass screen.
The Apple Store was great about letting me exchanging it, no problem. Then I realized that I needed firewire so I returned the new and unopened Macbook replacement to upgrade to a MacBook Pro, but now I'm disheartened, because the new MacBook Pro, though a thing of beauty, has a bright dead pixel in the top middle screen, as well as a dimmer dead pixel 2 inches to the left of that one.
I just bought the computer a few hours ago.
Do you think I have a shot at them replacing it tomorrow? I hate to think of staring at this, (bright) dead pixel for three years, (not to mention the other dimmer dead pixel).
    Thanks!

Yep, I too did a custom order wtih everything I could get on it. And sad to say, like many iphones I have gotten, it too had dust under the display. It also was about 10 different yellow flecks under the glass. Customer service gave me no fuss really and I have sent it off and am awaiting a new one now. However, it is frustrating that this makes it out of the factory in the first place. Quality control should have seen this, especially when I am looking at buying 2 more shortly. It is my first actual mac purchase aside from the numerous other accories I have bought for PC use. However, with vista being the garbage that it is, I am having mac withdrawls now. ***** when you use something that works and then revert back.
I also noticed the battery lid was a little loose on the laptop. Hopefully this is a isolated thing as well. It does take about another week and a half from what I am told to get the replacement. Kinda ***** to have to wait, but I am sure it will be worth it.

  • Nokia 6280 mains charger

    Hi
i was just wondering if anybody has had issues with thier stock nokia 6280 charger both mine and my mate have had the end (bit inserted into the phone) snapped off.
    cheers

I got a duff one sent with the phone. I returned the lot as it was a contract. They in turn returned the phone and charger with two letters enclosed (stock letters I reckon) one stated that the phone was ok and the second letter said that the battery charger was un-serviceable and I would need to buy a new one. Well, I waited for about 3 days and decided to buy one for £5 They did send me a replacement eventually after a further week. I was totally fed up.
Everything seems to be ok now, but the phone's battery has a short charge life and not enough memory IMO.
I have a charger at work and one at homenow.
I wish I would have gone for a Sony erickson walkman something like the W800i
