Nokia 6280 problems (resetting), especially on '3'...

As per the request of a moderator (Karim) at the end of a different thread about the Nokia 6280, I am beginning a new thread here about the Nokia 6280 and problems people are encountering with it.
I was upgraded by my network operator '3' onto the Nokia 6280 phone, which arrived on Thursday 9th February 2006. This is a '3-branded' variant of the standard Nokia 6280, with a 3 logo on the front and back, and some 3-specific features in the software.
The phone looks great, and there are many good things about it, but there are some very weird bugs in the software:
- The phone often resets itself (goes black, fast restarts) when changing profiles e.g. from 'General' to 'Silent'
- When trying to change tones, the system seems to 'hang' after which no sound is produced from the phone OS (e.g. button presses, tone noises) until a hard reset is done
- Various other bugs (not discovered by me, but mentioned by others in the previous thread) including text messages being interrupted half-way through, PIN request not being actioned even though activated, and media player issues.
My phone revision information is as follows:
Nokia 6280
V 03.36
05-12-05
RM-78
(c) Nokia
Language:
V 03.36
05-12-05
RM-78
(c) Nokia
C
I am wondering about the following:
- Does this phone support firmware updating?
- If so, will Nokia provide a standard firmware update, or as my phone is a '3-variant' will I have to rely on 3 putting out a firmware update
- Has anybody got any suggestions of how to proceed with this - I am within my 7 day return period, so could return it, but then I'd be without a phone and I'd prefer to keep the phone and have it fixed!
Anyone else with these issues, please join the thread, for clarity I suggest people include what network their phone is on, and the firmware revision of the phone. This can be discovered by tapping *#0000# on their phone.
Thanks
Floop

Hi,
I upgraded my phone from 6630 to 6280 with 3 Network, three weeks ago. This is my third phone, and it's the same problem all over. After I transfer all my contacts and pictures etc via bluetooth, I tend to have a play around getting use to the new phone and without any warning the phone would just switch off. It would never switch on again. I tried recharging and leaving it overnight, nothing. Exactly the same thing happen to phone no.2 and no.3. Always when I just finished transferring contact details and pictures. I can't get it to switch on again. I am in the process of returning the 3rd 6280. I think I wouldn't bother with it.
I originally asked for N70, and 3 keep telling me that they don't have it in stock. The other options they have given me are Motorola V3X and LG 8330 which I'm not keen on really as I would prefer a Nokia phone.
Is this a known fault with 6280?. I will keep pressing 3 to give me the N70 or else. I am to the point of not bothering and just keep with my 6630.
Has anyone had the same problem?

  • Nokia 6280 problem transferring music from PC to P...

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to phones but I recently purchased a Nokia 6280. I have downloaded PC Suite version 6.82.22.0 and am using a CA-53 USB cable to connect my phone to my PC, however I am unable to download any tunes to my phone. I keep getting a message stating that there is insufficient memory on my phone. This I find hard to believe as it is a brand new phone with new memory card
I am using Windows XP, Build 2006, Service Pack 2.
I have checked the help page of PC suite and in relation to the Connectivity Cable Drivers it states "Not Installed"
    PC Connectivity Solution is 6.43.9.0
    Outlook version 11.0
    Build 8010
    Bluetooth Stack Version 5.1.2600
    Build 2180
I am also getting a message saying packet data connection not available when I try and access things such as the internet or vodaphone live for example. Can anyone assist me with either of these problems
    Many Thanks

I guess you have used the nokia website and arranged to receive wap/GPRS settings by text..haven't you?

  • Nokia 6280 - problem with software update

    Hi,
I have a problem updating thge software on my 6280. I've checked for newer soft version, and it turned out that is is availible. Therefore i've installed latest Nokia PC Suite and Software Updater.
After connecting the phone i got "Connectd phone was not recognized"
Very well... but what am i supposed to do to make updater recognize my phone??

    Hi,
sorry to tell you but the 6280 is not listed as compatible with NSU at
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4579163
There was a lot of commotion around the 6280 last year, apparently there were some product codes that were shared with the 6288 (which is listed as compatible), I'm not quite sure what it was all about. Anyway it looks like you need to visit a Nokia service center to get the sw updated for a 6280:

  • Problem Nokia 6280

Hello everybody, I have a problem with my Nokia 6280, I cannot set any more of photos, when I start the camera, he dashes but my telephone jams and I can make nothing more, and I have to restart my telephone. Help me please !

I believe this is a hardware problem and it is somewhat common that 2 device can't recognize each other especially if one is older than the other. You should try to use other 2 cell phones... But if you still want both of them to work I would suggest going to a special tech support site. I recommend you one with free live chat support.
I am sure you will find your answer there - Here is the page for Nokia Cellular Phone Support
    Good luck

  • Themes Problem URGENT Nokia 6280

When chaging over themes. howcome the background to the main menu stays the same. this is very annoyin. i want to change this background but dont know how to do so. i have a green theme throughtout with a bright blue background at menu. can anyone help me with this?
    Its a Nokia 6280.
    On Three.

What kind of main menu view have you chosen? I have the same problem with my 6280 (v3.81) when I choose Tab view. Try to open the menu, go to the options -> main menu view and set it to List, for example. I have also created my own themes with Nokia Theme Studio (avaliable on www.forum.nokia.com) and I haven't found the way to remove that blue background in tab view... Regards, dHeaven

  • Nokia 6280 - am contemplating getting one, should ...

Ok so I went through nokia 6111's in 3 months at the beginning of the year, and ended up with a Samsung for the remainder of my contract. I am now able to upgrade again in 3 weeks time, and am contemplating getting the Nokia 6280. The man at O2 I spoke to said that he hasnt heard of many problems with them recently, but I keep seeing the odd post about them pop up on here.
Are the majority of them behaving now or should I avoid it?
I want a smallish phone, preferably one that is a flip or slide phone (as it lives in my pocket and I dont want to keep pressing buttons) I love Nokia phones, but dont want to be let down again like I was last time.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

My 6111's kept switching themselves off, or the screen would die, or it would freeze up and reset (one never even made it much further than the box because it was broken when I received it)
I ended up with a samsung because 02 refused to send me any more nokias due to the problems I was having. The D600 I have is ok, but there are just little things about it I dont like - really stupid things, but ones that, when a Nokia works they have them. For example, theres not apostrophe when typing txts, you cant write "weren't" because the hyphon doesnt exist. It doesnt put a capital letter automatically after a full stop, which again the nokias do, and the message capacity of it is tiny.
Anyway Ive gone off topic. I want a phone that I can take decent pics with (the samsung has a really good camera on it) one that has bluetooth, one that I can read my email on (I have a yahoo account, so as its 02 I can check my email) easily and quickly, and bascially one that wont keep switching itself off or dying on me!

Just a quick note, my N80 doesn't put a caps after full stops. You have to change to it.
Is that an N95 in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?!?
Life's too important to take seriously.
    Nokias I've owned 3210, 3310, 6100, 7650, 6600, 6680, 6630, N80, N95

  • Changing the lcd-lens on nokia 6280

I have a nokia 6280 and the lcd screen's Lens are broken (cracks all over the it!)
I bought a replacement lens on the internet.
To the problem, How shall I change it properly?
Please help me!Message Edited by edvini on 03-Dec-200703:52 PM

These parts are not conceived to be user-replacable, you should have the phone repaired by a Nokia service point rather than attepting it yourself - especially if the phone is still covered by its warranty.
This repair will not be covered by the warranty, so you would have to pay for the repair, but if you attempt it yourslef and something else goes wrong with the phone you will be without warranty.

  • Nokia 6280 and errors with iSync

I can send individual cards from Address Book by selecting the card and then going to CARDS>>SEND THIS CARD. When I try to sync using iSync 2.3. I receive the message
[Nokia 6280] Connection to the phone failed.
Please make sure that your phone is turned on. If this error occurs again, please restart your phone.
    Device "Nokia 6280" synchronization failed
My phone does not promtp me to accept a connection. Any suggestions?

    Hi hobitton,
I have had this problem before and i took it to a nokia service centre, i told them to clean it and also i told them if it was common, they said it was very common and the man said it happens to all the 6280's (mostly), then he cleaned it for me, i think i know how to clean it but i have NEVER cleaned it myself because i don't want to void my precious 24 months warranty but i'll give you some advice, NEVER try to clean this phone even if you had a solution NEVER clean it.

Some devices may need to have their software reset in order to see the latest benefits, or to resolve other potential problems. - Ensure you have the latest version of Nokia PC Suite. - Backup your device memory to your PC using Nokia PC Suite - Copy your files (music, videos, documents, images etc) from the Nokia N91 hard drive to your PC (use of USB mass storage recommended). - Copy any original SISX, Java, etc. installation files for your applications, themes, etc. from your Nokia N91 hard drive or memory card to your PC. (Do not simply copy over the installed directories/files.) - If your device has an internal hard drive, format your Nokia device’s hard drive by selecting Tools > Hard drive > Options > Format hard drive > Quick format (instructions are also in user the guide). - After the device has completely started up again, reset your device memory by selecting Menu > Tools > Settings > Phone > General > Orig. Phone Settings and entering 12345. - Restore your device memory from your PC using Nokia PC Suite by selecting Backup from the PC Suite menu and then selecting Restore. - Copy any hard drive or memory card contents from your memory card or PC back to your clean hard drive or memory card. - Re-install your applications/themes.
