Nokia 6300 firmware wishlist

Hello!
Let's give our suggestions for improving the Nokia 6300's firmware. Post feature requests, bugs and ergonomy issues.
Contact list:
* All the fields of a contact should be searchable (name, surname, phone number etc...)
* The user should be able to hide groups in the contact list, as they are disturbing; in some cases, groups are only used to assign a specific ringtone to its contacts.
* The change of a contact's name should reflect on the Call log and Inbox. Currently, the names displayed in the Inbox and Call log will remain the same, even after a contact's name has been changed in the contact list.

1. when i try to play video clip (@176x144 resolution) on my nokia 6300 in full screen mode there are two white bars on the left & right side of the screen. Means the video doesn't fit to the screen. so please try to remove this problem on the next firmware update.
2. please add brightness control in the next update.
3. please add music player & radio themes.
4. please add full screen web browser in the next update like nokia 5220.
5. please add landscape mode and manual iso settings in the camera.
6. remove maximum 1 mb jar size limitation.
7. increase the video recording quality because its really poor & its a shame for a two mega pixel camera.
8. increase the volume in the music player.
9. add visualization in the music player.
10. Add proxy address and proxy port in the access point settings for opera mini.

i have un mobile phone nokia 6300, i have update my firmawere from 5.50 to 6.00 but now i haven't italian language in my phone. it's possible find the firmware 6.60 with italian language?

Nokia 6300 Firmware update online

I'm trying to use the "online" update of the firmware for the 6300. I have gprs connection working fine and can browse the web no problems. Every time I try to connect to the nokia download site using the "download updates" menu I get "cannot establish connection".
Has anyone used this service ?
How reliable is it ?

I have upgraded my 6233 to 4.91 last year using the phone itself as dial-up connection. I exited PC Suite, connected the phone, dailed *99# and opened Nokia Software Updater.
It did everything as it normally does (downloaded at 20kb/s over an EDGE connection) and then turned the phone off (internet connection closed) and flashed it - successfuly !.
Everything worked like a dream. I know this is not FOTA since I needed a PC to do the flash, but it is the next closest thing ;-)

Nokia 6300 firmware v7.30

So I have seen this mentioned and have even downloaded an .exe file of it.
But when I use Nokia Software Updater it says my current firmware 7.21 is the latest, even when I have 7.30 sitting there!
But I have no idea how to use the exe to load 7.30 onto the phone.
Again I bet there are no release notes. Hopefully it fixes the bugs like not remembering new words I "save" in SMS.
But since I can't load it to the phone, I have no idea!

depending on the phone variant that you currently have, u might not be able to update the phone software
have u tried checking ur product code on http://www.nokia-asia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-up... to determine what the latest s/w version available is?
also what exe file are u referring to? the nokia software updater connects to an online database to download the appropriate updates and then installs it onto the phone, it doesnt depend on a separate downloaded file on the desktop of ur pc
if u have confirmed that 7.30 is the latest s/w available for ur phone but u are unable to update it using the nsu, then i would suggest u take it to a nokia care point for a technician to do it for u so that u dont affect ur warranty. details of the nokia care points can be found by clicking on the Contact Us link

6300 firmware lost

Hi dont know if there is any thing to do about my problem.
This started about 3 days ago i was trying to install the new uppdate to my nokia 6300 (firmware) when it suddenly died. Well i thought
it should do that bequse it sad that it will that several min.
But after 4hours i had enough bequse it did not say any thing so i had to try it one more time.
But this time it did not start or even show any thing on the phone it was just blank.
So here is my question is there any thing i can do like type in *#0000# or something like that or do i have to send the phone away to get the firmware back.

Nokia 6300 unlocking/firmware and other questions

Hi,
I've bought a phone Nokia 6300 locked in Orange network. I went to a GSM shop and they unlocked my phone.
On the net I read that based on IMEI code they find the unlocking code but instead they have opened my phone and "read" something with a device. What kind of method is that ? Is it better ?
How can I check if it's completly unlocked ?
Also, if the software from the phone will be erased and written a new one, a newer firmware version, there the phone will be still locked ? Where is that locking feature ? Isn't like the motheboard bios when you flash a new one everything is changed ?
I saw on Nokia web site that I can update the firmware. The phone camed with 5.00 firmware customized by Orange, if I'll update to 5.50 which is on Nokia website, the customized Orange software will be erased ? Or should I go again to that GSM shop to erase the phone and write the new software with that devices ?

If you have had the phone unlocked by any other means than obtaining the restriction code from Orange, then this is work carried out by somebody who is not an authorised Nokia technician, so you may have invalidated the warranty.
Irrespective of the removal of the SIM-lock, the firmware version is based on the phone's product code which in your case will be a product code relating to Orange-version firmware, so you will get the latest version available for that phone and it will still be Orange-branded.

Nokia 6300 says I have the latest firmware, nokia....

There is a new firmware out for my Nokia 6300, but the phone says it have the latest firmware, when I check via the "telephone updates" in the settings. I want the latest! I dont have a cable, or Bluetooth on my pc. I have it on my Mac. Is it possible to update via my Mac with BT?

Updates are not possible by bluetooth, and currently not possible using a mac.

Nokia 6300 Text Message Options

I own a Nokia 6300 which was Made in Hungary. It came with firmware revision version 5.00.
I only see 6 options in my Text Message Settings and nothing seems to resolve it. There's supposed to be 10 options. I contacted Nokia care centre and they suggested that I update the software which I did but to no avail.
I purchased my phone SIM free and completely unlocked. No provider touched my phone.

3. E-mail Msg. Centres
4. E-mail Centres in use (this option is
greyed out)
5. Use Packet Data
6. Character support
What should be there is:
1 delivery reports
2 message centres
3 msg centre in use
4 e-mail msg. centres
5 e-mail centre in use (greyed)
6 message validity
7 messages sent via
8 use packet data
9 character support
10 rep. via same centre
'Delivery reports, Message Validity, Rep. via same centre and messages sent via' are all missing from mine.
I have reseted my phone on several occasions but it makes no difference in that department. I updated it to 5.50 and still no difference. I'm out of ideas. Can anybody out there suggest anything to me that I haven't already tried ?

I've got the solution!!!
Okay - I spoke to Nokia - who advised me to speak to my SIM card provider (Orange). Orange said - 'This functionality is not supported by Orange on the 6300'.
But there is a way around this.
Borrow one of friends SIM cards (preferably a Vodafone) - insert the card, switch on the phone then go to the messaging menu:
Message Settings > Text Messages > Delivery Reports (set this to yes).
Then switch off the phone, stick your own SIM card back in the phone and switch it on.
If you now go back to the same menu - you will see that, there is no option to set Delivery Reports. However, when you now send a message - it will now indicate when a message is delivered.... JOB DONE :-)

URGENT!! Nokia 6300 issue please help

Hi, Basically I turned my Nokia 6300 off the other night and when I turned it back on it starts up as normal, However when I try to put my security code in and press OK it just freezes and wont let me into my phone. I havent forgotten my security code as I have used this code plenty of times so it must be a phone issue. Ive tried various ways for example: putting in a different sim or trying it without the sim or removing the battery etc but the problems the same!! Please can anyone help??

Have you tried removing the memory card too?
It sounds like the OS has become corrupted to me. I've had it happen on a 6233.
Unfortunately if this is the case there is no way for the user to recover it from this state. If it can't boot then it can't be reset or have it's firmware reloaded by the user. It can't even be backed up.
Your only option is to take the phone to a nokia care point and they can reload it's firmware. Sadly all of your info, files, programs will be wiped from the phone.

Nokia 6300 - Instant Messaging icon/functionality ...

Hi everybody,
I'm from Canada, and just bought a Nokia 6300 brand new a few days ago. This morning, I went on my phone to change the wallpaper, and for a second, the phone blinked and changed back to the default provider theme. I then changed back the wallpaper, but when I go into the menu, my instant messaging icon is not there anymore. Obviously, restarting the phone didn't solve the problem.
I don't know if anybody got this problem before. I've seen other functionalities missing like Calculator and Email and such, so maybe it's a software fault. Anyone can advise how to fix this problem? Is this a good phone or I just see the problems with it?
My firmware version is 4.71 28/02/2007.

It seems like your phones software has gone a bit corrupted. Please update it with the Nokia Software Updater. This should solve your problem, if not then you need to take the phone to a Nokia Service Center.

There is no "Chat" like the N 6300 of my friends !!!!!

According to my knowledge, Chat option isn't available on newer phones. Not even on my 6233, though it was available on my old 1100. If 6300s of your friends have it, it must be something firmware related. As you have the Live Postcard option, it must be a Vodafone phone. So may be in newer or older firmware versions, the chat option might be available. So check it with your operator. It never is anything Personal Configuration related unless this MESSENGER is a Java app. I think you mean that Chat is a main feature available in your messaging menu, not in a sub menu like Instant Messaging. Hope this helps.

Contacts Back Up Nokia 6300 on PC Suite

I am having problems with PC Suite, I don't seem to be alone! I have had a look through some of the previous posts but can't get the following sorted.
I have made a back up of my contacts etc via PC Suite from my Nokia 6300. The problem is viewing the contacts via the file manager. It only shows 3 of the contacts out of over 100. All are saved to the phone not the SIM. I am therefore not able to confirm the back up is accurate, or edit any of the contacts on my PC. The three that are showing I added to this new phone the others are copied to the phone from SIM when I put it in the new phone but as far as I can see they are all stored on the phone in exactly the same way!
It seems to be a bit of a tempramental programme, I didn't have this problem with my Motorola using a different programme.
I am using Window XP SP2, version 6.83.14.1 of PC Suite and have tried conecting via a cable and bluetooth.

No you are not alone... In order to update the firmware to 7.118, I backed up my 6300 using PC Suite and now I cannot anymore restore all of its contents.
The restoration sequencially restores SMS, contacts, and phone settings. In my case the process stops with an error in the middle of my contacts, without resuming execution for the next contact or the phone settings. The failing contact is always the same. This contact has the particularity to have 2 address lines, so it might be that this special case is not supported by the restoration program... this is just speculation from my side, it can be anything else of course.
Anyway the consequence is that I have now half of my contacts and all of the phone settings left behind in the nbu file.
Appreciated the solution mentioned to use Outlook, but this won't save my settings, nor will save specificities of my contacts that are not compatible with Outlook.
Personally I am not sure this is related to this particular phone model (6300), but must be an issue of PC Suite itself (either the backup or the restore program).
Generally speaking backup and restoration should be the most robust (same level of reliability as the OS itself), otherwise we cannot count on them to execute other programs. Thus they must be simple, like copying files and must mainly rely on the OS. In this funny case, running the phone updater has been safer than the safety measures taken!

Nokia 6300 corrupt theme

hi i have my nokia 6300 for a year now and i always download new themes for my phone. but last week as i was changing to another theme, my phone suddenly restarted, then when i was applying a theme it said the theme was corrupted. i tried applying the other themes but they were all corrupted, even the nokia default themes. i also tried downloading new themes but it just kept saying theme corrupted. HELP? HOW DO I FIX MY PHONE?
