Nokia 6300 high pitched whistling feedback noise d...

I am now on my fourth Nokia 6300 having returned the previous three because of the same high pitched whistling or feedback noise during a call. I have also tried updating my SIM card (a genius at Vodafone came up with that idea) and still the same problem.
I know of a couple of people with the same phone and no problems, so I can only suppose it is something to do with the Vodafone software.
I would be happy to try updating or re-loading the software but cannot find it anywhere?
I really like everything else about this phone so any helpful suggestions would be appreciated!

I also recently upgraded my wonderful 6233 with a 6300. The ear-piece of the first one I got produced a constant buzz during calls. Returned it, got a new one on the spot. After a few days, I started having complaints about my audio at the other end; the symptom was a very high noise level (coming from my end) together with echo (the caller would hear their voice echoed back). I had also started noticing a distorted low-level replica of my own voice present at the ear-piece. The first thing that came to mind was "oh no, another replacement!". Being a bit of an inquisitive mind though, I decided to debug this a bid further. So I browsed the web, and among other things came across this thread. The turning point was correlating the problem with reports of Bluetooth incompatibility from various users right and left; as it turns out, the 6300 appears to have a serious Bluetooth "problem". To make a long story short, the situation is as follows. After the phone is turned on, all is well: audio at the other end is perfect (no noise, no echo). Then I turn on my Motorola H700 head-set. Call the phone from a land-line, and yes, the noise level is high as hell; the mic gain is turned up so much that you can whisper a couple of meters away and hear yourself just fine on the other end! Here comes the catch: turn off the Bluetooth head-set, and surprise-surprise, the problem is still there with the built-in mic; turning off and on the phone cures it. But wait, this doesn't happen always. Sometimes the mic level goes back to what it was before, and the phone is working fine once more, without power-cycling.
That's more or less it; I hope it rings a bell with someone reading these lines, and hopefully it gets fixed in a future firmware revision. In the meantime, I need a new Bluetooth head-set...

High pitched whistle/bleeping noise?

Hello,
I have recently noticed that my 2.4GHz 20" Imac is emitting a high pitched whistle every few minutes when I'm working. It's essentially a short 3 second electronic whistle or bleeping noise and is now happening literally every minute or so as I work. It's becoming quite irritating to say the least!
Does anyone know what this is, or how I can stop it from happening?

I would say it's probably from the hard drive, once they get to a certain percentage full they tend to make more noise due to additional activity.

W510 high pitched whistle noise problem

I must tell that I am very dissapointed of the laptop.
The hard died 2 weeks after I bought it (about month ago)
Still from the beginning I have had that problem with the noise …
W510 makes the high pitched whistle noises, when running on battery power. Very anoying. When the laptop is connected to AC adapter, everythng is ok, the noise is gone.
I'm only wondering, that even notebooks in this price class are not as good as I expected. I think, for 2000 € you can expect a notebook without this noise.
Do you know how to solve this?

The problem is with the CPU itself. From what I was told by the Lenovo Service Center Singapore, the high pitched is caused by power management, voltage regulator, the Intel Core i processor was designed to be like this.
Although they are documentations being made too by Dell regarding Intel Core i processor high pitched issue, I myself also was disappointed because I have used the machines for 2 months then this problem came out.
The only workaround method is to disable Power Management from BIOS, which disable the cause of high pitched issue, but hurts battery life. You either live or die with it.

Any reports of a high pitch whistling?

Hi,
I've just a new High Res 15.2" delivered.
I'm really pleased with the display, the new battery life, the keyboard etc but there is a constant high pitched whistling noise, I can't locate the exact position but it sounds like it's coming from behind the superdrive (again, I could be wrong).
Nothing seems to adjust the volume or pitch, it's just constant, from the instant the power is switched on.
The AC doesn't affect it, the screen brightness doesn't affect it, use of the HD doesn't affect it, it's just constantly there.
Any suggestions of what it might be, is it something we've seen as a group before?. I don't partcularly want to send my brand new PB back, then again, I don't want to get stuck with this, I think it would adversely affect my health (and sanity) if I was using it for 15 hours a day. Although as I'm typing this I've also just noticed it has that keyboard chirping problem. Why is powerbook quality so low, my old TiBook was brilliant, as was my 12" iBook. My last powerbook dropped to bits and this one hasn't even got through the first day.

Hi Andrew, there are a lot of us experiencing the same problems as you. I have a 15" PowerBook and it makes loads of horrible noises and i wish i never bought it. A lot of the time i prefer to use my iMac because the PowerBook just annoys me to much.
I not sure about the whining sound but the chirping keys seems to be linked to the processor by all accounts. I get the chirping generally using Safari. A lot of these issues can normally be resolved by installing CHUD tools and in the procesor pane, disable the 'allow nap' option. But like me your probably thinking, i've just spent a small fortune, why should i?????
If i was in your position i would return the powerbook while you still can because Apple aftersales is a nightmare, I'd probably be inclined to sit on the cash and see how the intel macs pan out.
Also, i read the other day that theres news of a widescreen iBook on the horizon, powered by Intel so no doubt it will be much faster than our powerPC powerbooks and a lot cheaper.

High pitch whistle then died

I've had my 9300 for around a year and a half with no problems at all. Yesterday, I was charging up and then noticed the high pitch whistle sound (for the first time with my own phone) and noticed my phone had died. I've popped the battery multiple times, even trying a second battery with no luck. Each time I place the battery in (without being plugged in to the charger) and I get the high pitch sound for just a second until the battery is completely in. There was also no electricity surge or anything like that with the plug and charger.
Can it be saved easily?

N97 mini High pitched whistle

Hi, Recently got a n97mini, and notice a really high pitched whistle arorund the 15-22khz range coming from the head set. From what I think this may be due to the inverter for the backlight, as when the phone goes into "keygaurd" and the lights go off the sound stops, the sound is even more prevalint when using it to make a call as it a lot closer to your ear
Any one notice this and should i just swap my phone and try another

I got my phone in late April and have just had this issue appear on my handset now; it wasn't doing it before but it randomly started happening the other day. Has anyone been able to get theirs successfully repaired or exchanged? Considering the scope of this issue i have my doubts that it can be fixed... Replacing the display will likely result in the same sound returning at some point in the future, i have a feeling this is a design flaw or the result of using poor quality materials. I don't want to part with my handset for 2 - 3 weeks getting the display replaced only to find that 6 - 7 weeks later the sound comes back If it's harmless i guess i can live with it; i just dont want the display burning out or something!
If others have this issue or have successfully had the issue resolved i'd love to hear from you!

Bazaar high-pitched squeal/fuzz noise in iTunes when scrolling.

System info:
I'm using iTunes 6.1.3 on Windows XP Pro, and I'm wearing headphones (i don't have regular speakers).
Issue:
I noticed that if I click and hold down the scroll bars in the Library in iTunes (the scrollbars for Genre, Artist, and Album), I hear a faint high-pitched squeal or fuzz noise coming into my headphones. (If I scroll through the songs themselves, I do not get this noise. It's just the three above-mentioned scroll bars). Since it's pretty faint, I only hear it if nothing else on my computer is sending out music or noise (or only if the noise is also very quiet at the time). As far as I recall, I don't remember hearing this in conjunction with any other program.
Question:
Has anyone ever heard of such an issue? It's not really a big deal, but it does make me rather curious to know what's causing it. Try it on your own computer and let me know if you have the same issue. Could it be a sound card thing? But then why would where I click in one particular program have anything to do with it?

If you'd like to hear what I'm talking about (Since you might be tempted to think I'm making this up), I created a wave file recording of it. (I didn't want any mp3 compression to confuse the matter, so that's why it's a wav. Not that I know much about that sort of thing... but just in case.) Process of making example file:
I recorded it using Audacity (which is an open source program that can be downloaded from sourceforge.net). In Audacity, I set the recording/input "channel" to be "Wave Out Mix". I turned the Wave out volume and the master volume all the way up, then pushed record. (Turning the Wave volume up caused additional fuzz, so concentrate on the contrast between the sections of the recording to hear the actual sound I'm referring to.) It's a pretty quiet track, so you'll probably have to turn the volume way up.
It's a 30+ second clip. Here's how the seconds break down:
For the first five seconds, I just did nothing.
From seconds five through 10, I clicked and held down the Genre scroll bar in iTunes.
From seconds 10 through 15, I did nothing again.
From seconds 15 through 20, I clicked and held down the Artist scroll bar in iTunes.
From seconds 20 through 25, I did nothing, once again (I kept doing this so you could hear
the difference).
From seconds 25 through 30, I clicked and held down the Album scroll bar in iTunes. (Notice that this one seems to be slightly higher in pitch than the noise from the previous two scrollings I did.)
The last couple seconds, I did nothing again.
More weirdness:
Changing the volume on my computer (both the master mix, and the wave out mix, and any other mix that exists (e.g. line, microphone, CD Player, Mono out, etc.)), or even MUTING the volume of any of these mixes does not make the sound go away or change in volume at all! It's always at the same volume no matter what I do. I can only make it go away if I unplug my headphones (remember: I don't have regular speakers. If I did have those, unplugging the headphones might only change where the noise is heard.). Changing the wave out volume only affected the recording (which is why I turned it way up. If I turn the wave out volume all the way down, then push record, I still hear the noise coming from iTunes while I'm recording, but if I play the recording back, the noise is gone.

Windows XP Pro

Called Apple support, they said they do not support the use of iPods in cars, they may have sold you your car kit, but they dont support it. So buyer beware. I have three cars, I upgraded my Nano to 1.1, which is the latest, didnt fix it. I went out and tried it in all three cars, squeals in the Toyota (with Monster Cassette Adapter to Original Radio, hisses in the Nissan (with Audio 3.5 cable to audio jack to after market Sony radio), and works fine in old Mercury (with 3.5 cable to old JVC with audio jack).
So I better take care of the old Mercury.

ITunes & High Pitch Frequency Background Noise

This is an odd one... If more than 5 songs show in the iTunes window, a high pitched noise begins. If only a couple songs are showing (like a really tiny playlist), then no noise. If using the visualizer, no noise. If iTunes is in the background and another app has focus, then no noise.
But, the more songs showing in the iTunes window, the louder the frequency noise. The iTunes window must be the active window.
I don't have this problem in any other apps and both the built-in audio and my firewire audio device have the same noise.
I'm running iTunes 5.01 on a Dual 2.5 GHz G5. I don't think I had this problem on the iMacs....

I think I've found a workaround. The problem doesn't only happen in iTunes, but also in the Finder's list view when in full screen.
The workaround is to use Shades, a small utility that creates a uniform black color mask over my screen. All I had to do was set the brightness of my screen to 100%, run shades and lower the "brightness" using that utility to something comfortable for my eyes.
I think the issue comes from the high frequency flicker that the LED back light uses when the screen is being dimmed. For some reason, the speakers pick up on it when in list view... Why only list view? Beats me.

Tue. Episode of White Collar consist of colored stripes and a high pitched whistle. I'm starting to think the show is jinxed this season.

Is anyone else having problems with this show?
This is the second time, this season, the last one was the week before last.

Imagine a Venn diagram with four interlapping circles. The circles are:
1. Catastrophically exploded hard drive
2. Catastrophically annihilated external hard drive used for incremental backups
3. Catastrophically wiped cleaned external hard drive used for bootable clones
4. Email, CD, and iPod backups
With a little shake, rattle and roll and other craziness you do with a hard drive with failed bearings, I got #1 working briefly, thank goodness.
With Disk Warrior and figuring out how to surpass a fingerprint-activated security feature, I got #2 working in a limited fashion.
With some workarounds, I got some use out of #3.
#4 just is.
The interlap of these 4 things produced about 95-99% or so of my data, including all critical items. It was a disorganized mess I just spent two days organizing, but I am back up and running without having to use expensive data backup services. I am slightly bothered by that slight bit of missing data, but from what I can tell, it amounts to nothing more than a brief sketch of a lesson plan, a song or two from the iTunes store, and maybe a handful of attachments. Nothing to spend big bucks recovering, in other words.
Now I will substitute my "infallible" backup system with a new one:
1. Time capsule/time machine
2. Complete online backups with Mozy
3. Occasional bootable clones to the external hard drive I have that didn't get damaged.
I think this will be the ticket!

Network traffic jam with a high pitched noise

my PB makes a noise when it connects to the network and it's on the slow side, is this normal? thanks

Sounds like a good idea to me. It is highly possible that the AirPort card is in fact making the noise because I have a network device in my office (simple 4 port router) and it makes a high pitched whistling sound similar to the PowerBook G4. I am pretty sure it is the AirPort card and Leopard. I have a machine that has a card as well with 10.5 (desktop, original airport card) and it makes the same noise even though the other is extreme not original. Maybe something that will be solved in 10.5.3. Thanks for your help, I appreciate the advice.

High pitched noise front right

Hi, I got the macbook a couple of days ago and have noticed (apart from the occasional moo) a high pitched metal sounding noise( which occurs fairly frequently.
I think (I`m not expert) that is where the hard drive is!
I did read about this about a week ago but I have been unable to find/access the post.
Is it that my hearing is very good and picking up standard sounds.
It is a metal Clicking/Beeping Type Noise<<<<<.</div>

How would one tell the difference between access and rotational noises.
Pretty simple really, the rotational noise is simply the sound of somthing spinning. Most drives as they get older develop a soft hum/hiss type sound of the spindle. It should be pretty obvious if it's a rotational noise given it will be constant when the drive is on. It'll never change. On a new drive this shouldn't be audible unless you're actually trying to hear it.
A disk access noise, actually called head movement, on the other hand is more a clicking/clacking/ticking/rattling noise. This noise can a does vary considerable between mechanisms of different manufacturers not to mention the volume also varies. If you're listening you can tell the difference between the noise your drive makes when your MacBook is starting up compared to the noise when it's doing nothing. The more your disk moves the head/accesses data the more you'll get this noise.
The thing is, head movement rarely causes a high pitched sound and is far more common to the spindle bearings. Yet, the fact that your noise is not constant is more common to noise of head movement.

High Pitched Microphone sound

My laptop - ASUS K501L - produces a high pitched whistling sound, as well as other background static noises, when I use Skype. However, the problem is not present on other platforms, such as Google Hangouts and Line. I have tried manually adjusting the mic volume, but this does not fix the issue, and moreover it does not seem to change the volume of sound the receiving party hears. Plugging in earphones to eliminate audio feedback also does not work, but muting my mic stops the static the other end hears.
Thus, I have determined it is a problem with Skype, but I can't find any way to fix this. Help?

Hey, great suggestion Burn. It prompted me to look at iChat preferences, since that was the only application that I've had open which might engage the internal microphone.
Within iChat Preferences, I clicked on the 'Video' icon, and for the 'Microphone' setting I saw that 'None selected' (or something like that - that option has gone now?) was in place. So I changed the setting to Internal Microphone. The whistle or screech was still there. Then I changed the setting to 'Line In'. No more screech!!
A good result, but is this the way it's supposed to be? Does having the setting as 'Line In' mean that I have to plug headphones in whenever I want to use iChat for internet telephony? Unless I manually change to Internal Microphone, but then I suffer screeching again?

High pitch squeal related to Firewire audio device after 10.6.2 audio patch

So the recent Mac Pro audio update 1.0 (applied on 10.6.2) has reduced my CPU temperature with audio playback (Presonus Firebox Firewire audio interface) and that is great. Also haven't had any machine crashes (grey screens) recently which is also great.
The problem is that when the Firebox is plugged into the firewire port of the Mac Pro there is a constant high pitched whistle of slightly oscillating frequency. If I unplug the Firebox the whistle goes away in a few seconds.
After prolonged use in a quiet room (the kind of room you need for audio recording / mixing work!) the noise is enough to drive me crazy.
I read a post on another forum with other people having the same problem. Can anyone comment here on seeing the same thing? Is there any known work around or fix for this?
When the CPU is under heavy load (e.g. H.264 compression etc.) the noise subsides only to return when there is normal load (i.e. half a dozen apps running).

So I was able to back out the update using "Kext Helper b7" and the original IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext and AppleHDA.kext files from a backup before applying the update. It's pretty easy - just drop the two files onto Kext Helper, hit "go" and then reboot.
My ears are no longer in constant pain and I can actually use the Mac Pro again albeit running quite hotter than before.
This is not a fix Apple. The problem looks unrelated to a specific device based on the posts in this thread. Please issue a usable fix for the Mac Pro Audio performance issue.

Satellite P750-113 - Terrible high pitch whine

Hi forum,
I've recently purchased a Toshiba P750-113, and for the last few days have played games on the laptop, watched a few movies and all has gone well. Been a happy customer. Until recently that is.
Out of the blue, having about 4 days of usage out of the laptop, I boot up Windows 7 as usual to find a high pitch whistle sound, whining at me. Its a rather distinct sine noise, sounds electrical. I've checked the speakers, and the noise is not from coming from there. The noise is coming from underneath the laptop, specifically at the top left of the base (if sitting on my lap).. It's not pointing at the harddrive compartment or fans.
The noise begins only when the Windows login screen appears, and then continues to whistle away for the duration Windows 7 is open. The sound is not present while booting the machine, only when Windows has loaded.
There are a few power saving modes on my laptop, and if I use the Eco mode, the noise stops, in fact the laptop could be mistaken for being silent. In power saving mode, the noise is still present, but very not as frequent. I've tried running ati tool and prime95 in 'eco mode' to see if the sound level fluctuates at all - just to narrow down if it was the Cpu or Gpu, but there is no noise! So in Eco mode all is fine.
I wish I could cope with leaving Eco on all the time, but as you could imagine its not a mode used largely for gaming.
I've read through a few forums in dispair, to find a few people also have cpu noise, and theres mentioning of I5 processors in general omitting electrical noise.

I searched here in the forum for similar threads but it look like you are the first one who has mentioned such issue with the Bluetooth from my knowledge the Wlan chip provides the wireless and Bluetooth functionality.
Maybe there is something wrong with the Wlan card
Im not quite sure if this could help but try some common updates: try BIOS update, BT and Wlan update.
You could also try to test some settings; like disable the power saving for Wlan in Win7 Power Management. Well, in worst case the technician should take a test the hardware
