Nokia 6300 - location of contacts.vcf

Does such a file exist on the Nokia? I have downloaded this file from my old SonyEriccson onto my Mac via bluetooth. it contains all my contact details. Logically I thought that I could find the location of the same file on the Nokia and overwrite it with my old contact details.
But I can't locate it.
Failing that - any suggestions as to how to get my contacts over? Too many to copy to SIM. iSync states it does not support either phone.  Nokia seems to not realise that there are several million Apple Mac users out there who might, just might, actually want to use a Nokia phone.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately it seems to be a manual re-entry on a one by one basis for stuff I've already got sitting in my other phone.  Not what I'm after.  Also it runs on a PC.
To be honest, I'm speechless that those prats who design these phones will stick absolutely every pointless gizmo under the sun into the damn things thereby giving them a battery life of a squashed drycell and yet they are incapable of providing something basic such as transferring contacts simply and easily.
Maybe I should just box up the new phone and send it back.

  • Nokia 6300, iSync, and Contact Photos-

Thanks to the following links, I was able to get my new Nokia 6300 to successfully sync with my Mac’s Address Book via iSync:
    http://klauskjeldsen.dk/2007/06/08/free-nokia-6300-isync-plugin/
    http://nokia6300.net/8/new-version-of-the-nokia-6300-isync-plugin

    http://kaspers.freeflux.net/blog/archive/2007/04/13/how-to-isync-a-nokia-6300.html
Unfortunately, two things didn’t sync up: Birthdays and Contact Photos. After politely asking people if there was any way to get these to work (especially photos, as it’s nice to see someone’s picture pop up on the phone for faster recognition before you unceremoniously reject them) I tried to tackle this one on my own. I was able to dig around in the plist files of the Nokia N93 and glean the few lines that make both of these details available to the Nokia 6300 plugin.
Before we begin however, I’ve noticed some problems that can occur with Photo syncing. PLEASE READ THIS THOROUGHLY before continuing: it’ll save some head-banging and frustration later.
Failing to follow the following guidelines will result in a completely failed sync. Should this happen, I simply deleted all of my contacts on the phone (phone memory, not SIM card), tried to determine the problem, and tried again.
Also, note that if you do end up deleting all of the contacts on your phone, you’ll also lose your 1-touch dialing and the entries in your caller groups (but not the groups themselves).
    Here we go:
Do not use .GIF files — JPG only! (I didn’t test PNG)
You cannot drag-and-drop from a web-page directly onto a contact. Although this works for Address Book in that you’ll see the ‘image edit’ window pop-open, and you can save your contact, when it comes to iSync your entire sync will fail. If you want to use someone’s image (from Facebook, for example) simply drag the photo you want from the web-page onto your desktop, and then drag the photo from your desktop onto the Address Book entry’s ‘contact photo’ area. You’re then free to delete the image from your desktop.
You cannot sync with a ’smart group’ that you created within Address Book. This has more to do with iSync than the new plugin, but it’s a pain nonetheless. Physical groups only!
When a sync fails, you are not told what failed, or why it failed. iSync detailed logs are useless too, stating only:
5:28:24 PM Error [Nokia 6300] An unexpected error occured.
5:28:24 PM Error Device "Nokia 6300" synchronization failed
Fun! What I did was create a ‘temp’ group, set iSync to sync with that folder only for contacts, and then slowly add contacts into that temp group until a failure occurred so that I knew what the offending entry was.
The plugin that I’ve created is essentially just the one from the site listed above, but with some additional properties put into the PhoneContuit.plist and SyncEngine.plist files.
As with everyone else, I take no responsibility if this completely fcks up your phone or Address Book, but please do backup both your Address Book (File -> Back Up Address Book…) and your phone’s contacts (I typically just copy everything to SIM). I can say that this has worked fine for me for a day now, with a fair bit of testing. After I cleaned up my offending image-entries, it’s been great.
To install: Quit iSync, download the following zip file, and drag-and-drop the plugin into your system using the shortcut, and sync away.

  • Nokia 6300 - only 50 contacts allowed per created ...

    Hi,
I am using a Nokia 6300 phone (SW version 7.00), with the following applications:
    Nokia Communication Center - version 2.0;
Nokia PC Suite - version 7.1.18.0.
I would appreciate if you would increase the number of allowed contacts per created group from 50 to at least 250.
I find it difficult to use this feature due to its limitation.
This issue was found when tried to add 89 contacts into a group using Nokia PC Suite (the phone was connected to my PC using Bluetooth) and only the first 50 were added.
    Thank you very much,
    Adrian

  • Nokia 6300 & CK-15W - Contacts upload

Just fitted a CK-15W to the wifes Navara today, all working nicely with her 6300 (firmware now v05.50) except I can't get the contacts details to upload to the car kit from the phone. I tried with my 6500 Slide and it worked perfectly first time, no probs. Has anyone else had this problem and managed to fix it? or is it one of these things that she'll just have to live with? If not fixable it realy makes the CK-15W screen a bit pointless, as thats why I bought it for her car rather than the CK-7W that I fitted in my own (and before anyone suggests it NO I'm not swapping the kits over! lol )

That did it, moved the contacts to the phone memory tried again and lo and behold it worked first go. It would be nice if Nokia could tell you these things in the instructions (one assumes they try out their products for full compatibility LOL)!
Thanks for the help, it was something that had briefly passed through my mind as a possible reason but I had discounted it as too simple/obvious (how wrong can you be!).
    Thanks again
    Kenny.

  • Moving contacts from nokia 6300 to Iphone 4

    hi,
sorry if I'm making a new discussion uneccessarily but I can't find an adequate solution on the internet at the moment, so any advice would be much appreciated. I'm trying to move my contacts from my nokia 6300 to my iphone 4. I'm running a pc on windows xp with the latest Itunes (11.1.3), Iphone has latest os.
I have used the nokia pc suite to 'syncronise' my contacts to my default windows address book so they are on my computer but I'm stuck on the second step from computer to Iphone. I was planning to plug in my Iphone and sync my contacts across by some button on under the 'info' tab in Itunes.. but itunes says 'your contacts are being synced with your Iphone over the air from Icloud. over-the-air settings can be changed on your Iphone'. my problem is that i am not using The Icloud, I've triple in my settings.
I was using this video on youtube for help but got stuck 'http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAuEeOGduHk' but got stuck at 0:45
any solutions for my specific problem or any completely different way would be more than helpful.
    thanks

Ok I managed it, so in case anyone else has a similar problem and sees this, here are the steps.
    1. In your Contacts section of the Nokia, Options>Mark>Mark All.
    2. Options>Manage>Phone to Memory Card.
    3. Now your memory card has your contacts in .vcf format.
    4. Connect via data cable to Macbook.
    5. Once the icon shows up (Takes 10-15 secs), open it and under Other, see the folder Contacts.
    6. Copy to desktop (or wherever)
    7. Disconnect data cable.
    8. Import into Address Book (Figure out how you wanna handle duplicates...merge, use old or use new) I chose Use New
    9. Plug in the Iphone, sync through Itunes.
    10. Done!

  • Nokia 6300 phone contacts dissapeared

    Hi there,
My mums Nokia 6300 recently turned its self off and when it came back on the wallpaper pic had dissapeared and all the phone contacts were not visible.
When i go to copy to sim it says only 2 are copied and 300 ish are not. So i am assuming they are still there but for some reason cannot find them .
Is there a way to locate them?
    Thanks
    Ben.

Are they visible in PC Suite if you connect the phone to PC ?

  • Contacts Back Up Nokia 6300 on PC Suite

I am having problems with PC Suite, I don't seem to be alone! I have had a look through some of the previous posts but can't get the following sorted.
I have made a back up of my contacts etc via PC Suite from my Nokia 6300. The problem is viewing the contacts via the file manager. It only shows 3 of the contacts out of over 100. All are saved to the phone not the SIM. I am therefore not able to confirm the back up is accurate, or edit any of the contacts on my PC. The three that are showing I added to this new phone the others are copied to the phone from SIM when I put it in the new phone but as far as I can see they are all stored on the phone in exactly the same way!
It seems to be a bit of a tempramental programme, I didn't have this problem with my Motorola using a different programme.
I am using Window XP SP2, version 6.83.14.1 of PC Suite and have tried conecting via a cable and bluetooth.

No you are not alone... In order to update the firmware to 7.118, I backed up my 6300 using PC Suite and now I cannot anymore restore all of its contents.
The restoration sequencially restores SMS, contacts, and phone settings. In my case the process stops with an error in the middle of my contacts, without resuming execution for the next contact or the phone settings. The failing contact is always the same. This contact has the particularity to have 2 address lines, so it might be that this special case is not supported by the restoration program... this is just speculation from my side, it can be anything else of course.
Anyway the consequence is that I have now half of my contacts and all of the phone settings left behind in the nbu file.
Appreciated the solution mentioned to use Outlook, but this won't save my settings, nor will save specificities of my contacts that are not compatible with Outlook.
Personally I am not sure this is related to this particular phone model (6300), but must be an issue of PC Suite itself (either the backup or the restore program).
Generally speaking backup and restoration should be the most robust (same level of reliability as the OS itself), otherwise we cannot count on them to execute other programs. Thus they must be simple, like copying files and must mainly rely on the OS. In this funny case, running the phone updater has been safer than the safety measures taken!

  • Nokia 6300 and PC Sutie not restoring Contacts HEL...

Hi all im not sure if anyone else has the same problem but for some reason every time i try to restore a backup from my Nokia 6300 that I have just made it doesn’t seam to full work.. Everything else will restore except my contacts. If I restore my contacts I get a error msg saying Connection to the phone was lost. Reconnect your phone and restart the restoration..
Yet when I restore my contacts from a old 6230i phone I backed up 3months ago it seams fine..
    Using Windows XP SP2
    Nokia 6.83..14.1
Is there any other way I can backup my contacts…
Also I have noticed some of my applications have now been moved into a different folder on my memory card.

Ok, so I reinstalled the software, and so far it seems to be working 90% better. I can add contacts, and they seem to store on the computer AND phone better. One contact would not send, had to delete it and recreate for it to work, but was able to get it to the phone.
So I won't delete the original post, maybe someone else will have similar problems. Hopefully I won't be back to edit this response once I get to 10 or 15 numbers.

  • Nokia 6300 reboots while syncing contacts

    Hello,
At first let me make 3 points clear:
    - I use the last version of my phone firmware
    - I use the last version of PC Suite
    - Syncing was perfectly working until then.
    This is what happens now:
I have 305 contacts in Outlook, which used to sync seemlessly with my Nokia 6300... until recently. Since 2 days ago, the sync triggers a phone re-init at the 224th contact. I've tried several times and this is always where the sync process fails. All calendar and notes sync flawlessly, and I could do a phone backup.
Any idea as to what I can do?

I had a similar problem when I first tried to use PC Suite after upgrading to a 6300. The phone was switching off after I got to 119 of my 162 contacts.
The answer seems to be that you need to 'tidy up' any contact information you transferred from another phone or have updated. Its a bit laboroius but it worked for me.
Edit each of the contacts deleting those that contain no information and remove any spurious characters or symbols that may have appeared.
I did this and can now get PC suite to read all my contacts.

  • Nokia 6300 - Downloading contacts to In-Car Kenwoo...

I have recently purchased a new vehicle that has a Kenwood entertainment system with integrated bluetooth. The extremely 'useful' manual states that my Nokia 6300's contacts directory can be downloaded to the InCar system by following the cellphone instructions.
However, there is no mention of how to perform a download within the 6300 instruction manual.
Has anybody idea how this can be solved?
Thanks in advance for your assistance...

  • Nokia 6300 Text Message Options

I own a Nokia 6300 which was Made in Hungary. It came with firmware revision version 5.00.
I only see 6 options in my Text Message Settings and nothing seems to resolve it. There's supposed to be 10 options. I contacted Nokia care centre and they suggested that I update the software which I did but to no avail.
I purchased my phone SIM free and completely unlocked. No provider touched my phone.
    1. Message Centres
    2. Msg. Centres in use
    3. E-mail Msg. Centres
    4. E-mail Centres in use (this option is
    greyed out)
    5. Use Packet Data
    6. Character support
    What should be there is:
    1 delivery reports
    2 message centres
    3 msg centre in use
    4 e-mail msg. centres
5 e-mail centre in use (greyed)
    6 message validity
    7 messages sent via
    8 use packet data
    9 character support
    10 rep. via same centre
'Delivery reports, Message Validity, Rep. via same centre and messages sent via' are all missing from mine.
I have reseted my phone on several occasions but it makes no difference in that department. I updated it to 5.50 and still no difference. I'm out of ideas. Can anybody out there suggest anything to me that I haven't already tried ?
    Thank you all.

    Hello,
    I've got the solution!!!
Okay - I spoke to Nokia - who advised me to speak to my SIM card provider (Orange). Orange said - 'This functionality is not supported by Orange on the 6300'.
But there is a way around this.
Borrow one of friends SIM cards (preferably a Vodafone) - insert the card, switch on the phone then go to the messaging menu:
Message Settings > Text Messages > Delivery Reports (set this to yes).
Then switch off the phone, stick your own SIM card back in the phone and switch it on.
If you now go back to the same menu - you will see that, there is no option to set Delivery Reports. However, when you now send a message - it will now indicate when a message is delivered.... JOB DONE :-)

  • Nokia 6300 - Data Recovery - Please Help !!!

    HI....
I had been using the Nokia 6300 for the past 10 months and had encounter no problem at all. But do not know why, suddenly 2 days ago, the phone just suddenly freezed. I tried to turn off and turn on the phone, but I just can't enter into the menu. when the phone is turn on, only see the 'Nokia' wording, then the whole screen is just white and can only see the battery logo. It can't be turn off, need to remove the battery. I haven't back-up my contacts and smses yet, when this happen. Would like to know if anyone can help. I am really desperate now. All the contacts and smses are very important. Is there any way or method, that I can use, so that I can save the datas?
    Thank you.

If the phone won't start up, all you can do is take it to a service centre for repair. If your phone is under warranty, then damage caused by something going wrong in software updater is covered as a free repair.

  • Nokia Lumia 800 device Contact Sync with MSN Live

How does the sync from device to MSN live work in the Nokia Lumia phone?
If you purchase a Nokia Lumia, and the dealer synchs your old mobile phone contacts to Nokia Lumia using the contact transfer. In this process you have lots of stale contact which you don't want to retain. Now Lumia doesn't have pc connectivity software like earlier PC Suite or Ovi suite. these were the wonderful piece of sw, and you could update your contact, store on the outlook, and transfer then to and from the device.
But with Lumia you are at fix now. the only way currently appears to be deleting one by one from device.
There is a MSN account, and if you have a data connectivity then you can synch your contacts to your live account. Now you have the backup of the contacts in the server, which fortunately can be imported and exported from/to and excel.
I thought of using this for the bulk update of contacts, and the technical support team says, that if you delete the contact from the server, while switching your data connectivity from mobile, and then put it on, the new state will be, the device contacts will come to server, and the server contacts will go to the device. which means the contacts will get swapped. I somehow couldn't believe in this definition of synching, and I believe, the synching will then keep the sum of the two contacts in both the location, which means the server will be again full. and so will be the device.
Can anybody tell how does the synching works for Lumia with Live account? so that I can update my contact list on bulk?
I also request Nokia to provide a local piece of sw like PC Suite for the Lumia device, this will increase the sale significantly.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You wont have 600 contacts in Hotmail server because you deleted them, and when you delete even one contact in Hotmail then it gets deleted from NLM because I tried it just now.  I deleted one contact a supermarket number when the phone was switched on and another contact with the phone switched off.  When I switched on the phone the contact disappeared from the phone.
So from this we know that if you delete all of your contacts on your Hotmail then your Nokia Lumia contacts will all be deleted from Nokia Lumia too, apart from the Facebook and Twitter contacts in the People window.
In Microsoft Outlook you can select a whole range very easily and export to .CSV format to upload to Hotmail, if you have Microsoft Outlook I think this is the most powerful and effective way but needs a few steps to do it depending on which version of Outlook you have.
For Microsoft Outlook 2007 and 2010, edit all of your contacts then go to the "File" menu, then click on "Options", then click on the "Advanced" button on the left side of the window that pops up.  After that move to the "Export" section on the right of the screen and click the Export button.
Now a menu opens.  You choose "Export to a file", then choose "Comma Seperated Values (Windows)", then choose the "Contacts" folder from the list that opens after that.  You will be shown a box to name and save the file that Outlook is about to make.
When you save the file remember where it is, then go to Hotmail and look for the "Manage" button above the list of contacts, when you find the button click it and choose "Import" from the menu that opens up.
After that you will be taken to a different page, look for the words "Add people from other services" and underneath that is a list of pictures and one of those pictures has the word "Outlook" next to it.  Click on the word "Outlook".  Then you will be taken to a new webpage.
When you reach the new webpage make sure you look at the words on that webpage called "Step 2" and make sure there is a green dot beside the words "Microsoft Outlook (using CSV)".  Now go to the words called "Step 3" and you will see a button called "Browse".  Click on the "Browse" button and then a box will open up asking you to find the file you exported from Microsoft Outlook, which I explained how to do earlier.
You can also use this process to export calendar from Microsoft Outlook to Hotmail, which will then sync the calendar on your Lumia phone too.

  • Nokia 6300 Broken Screen (can't see a thing) help ...

    Hi guys.
I've got a Nokia 6300 and the screen broke the other day and I'm unable to see a thing. I can still use the phone though (blindly of course)
I'd like to transfer my numbers from my phone to my sim and to be able to do this without being to see.
So if someone could help me with shortcuts? I think I can press the menu key, then some numbers (am i right?) rather than up down etc etc.
Any help would be really really appreciated as i'm stuffed without a phone at the moment!
    Thanks so much!
    Charlie

once in main menu, i cant just go to any sub menu by pressing a number key, i have to use directional pad to go to CONTACTS, in there, press UP, (go to the last selection)it's COPY CONTACTS, an other UP, it's MOVE CONTACTS,
choose either one, once in, you have two option, first: FROM PHONE TO SIM, 2nd: FROM SIM TO PHONE, if u select the first one, it asks : move contacts? press center to answer YES, and wait, it may takes a while, i did with 60 contacts, in about 20 seconds.
by default, in grid mode, the upper center icon is the contacts.

  • Nokia 6300 Software v. 5.0 issue

Hello, I own a Nokia 6300. After update to v.5.0, I cannot add details to contacts. "Operation unsuccsefull" is the message that appears when trying to do this. Adding new contacts, works fine.
If anyone can help me, I will appreciate.
    Thanks.

I don't have a 6300 so am unable to help you with the first part of your query, but as to the 2nd part it is NOT possible to go backwards in terms of versions of firmware, and doing so could possibly damage your phone and is therefore NOT recommended.
