Nokia 6500S Software Updater - PROBLEM

Hi, Everyone!
I was hoping that someone could give some assistance with a problem that I encountered with my brand-new Nokia 6500s (slider).
I purchased the item about 3 days ago. It's a beautiful phone with great functionality. But, I noticed that I was having some unexplained delays with SMSs. I would send an SMS and I would receive their responses 2+ hours late from the recipient.
So, I decided to update the phone's software with my PC using the Nokia Software Updater. I had used it before with my Nokia E70 with great ease.
I connected the 6500s with my PC via USD and connected with PC Suite and then started up the Nokia Software Updater. The phone had a full battery and the connection to PC Suite was recognized.
I was updating to 4.84. While updating, the phone's display went blank but the bottons were still illuminated and the update seemed to be proceeding normally. Then, at the 3-minute to completion point, I started hearing those MS XP sounds that indicate a USB device has been plugged in or removed, then the phone appeared to shut off. I thought it strange, then the Nokia Software Updater put up a screen that said "Connection with Phone Lost."
UGH! I immediately tried to power on the phone, but it seems it's now "dead." I have held the power botton for a long time, but it doesn't do anything.
Can anyone please let me know what can be done? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The only way to get your phone working again is to visit a nokia care point/service centre. It will be covered under warranty (unless you have imported it) and they may be to fix it while you wait.

    Hello. I've got a problem trying to do a software update on my x6. Atm my software version is 20.0.005. In the phone it shows that it got new software to be update .. like 21.00 something.     SO what i mean is , When i connect my phone to the PC vie USB , everything is great the Suite shows that i got software update , downloads it , does backup. And when it starts to instal , after few seconds it shows "Connection to the phone was lost"  i do not do anything ofcourse . After few more seconds "by few i mean like 5" it shows "USB connection is active" and below that in small gray letters "YOu can continue with the software instalation" . When i click the OK button belowe all that , AGAIN after 4-5 seconds shows me that my connection was lost . And that goes over and over and over, no matter what i do .
    PS I did try with Nokia Software Updater ... and it doesnt even recognise my phone beeing connected . Just stays on the main page of the program that says to connect my phone and thats it.
    So PLEASE help me if someone can .... cause that thing is driving my insane.

    I keep getting this message everytime I try to update my software, I did as the pop-up said, but that didn't help. Anyone got the same problem? Can someone help?

    I got the newest versions of Nokia PC Suite and Software Updater. 
    When the pop-up comes and I do as it says it starts installing, but then the message pops on my screen again, everytime.

    I see on both the screendumps that you have your browser (Firefox) running. If your bandwidth is small, the update from Nokia's server will be interrupted so close all applications except your updateprog. Close auto updates for Microsft and shut down (temporarely) the Firewall.

  • Nokia 6303i Software Update Problem

    Hi all.
    I am trying to update my 6303i software (from 06.61 to 09.83) via Ovi Suite (I tried also Nokia Software Updater) but after 4-5 minutes after the installation begins Ovi Suite says that it has lost the connection with my phone and suggest to restart my phone and continue the installation. But the story repeats again.
    In that 4-5 minutes of installation the phone's display gets black (display lights are on) and the keybord is flashing every 10-15 seconds.
    Please help

    Sorry to hear your update issues.
    -Ovi Suite:
    Make sure that your phone and computer are properly connected.
    Check that your USB cable is working properly.
    First disconnect your phone from your computer.
    Open the Windows Control Panel and go to ‘Programs and Features’(Win7) or add/remove (WinXp+Vista)
    From the list of available programs, select ‘Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver’.
    Click the ‘Change’ button on the toolbar at the top toolbar.  
    In the set-up window that appears, click ‘Repair'. Then wait for the setup to complete.
    Go to Control Panel... Right-click Nokia Ovi Suite and select "Repair".
    You may need to restart your computer afterwards.
    THEN Connect your phone to the computer. Wait for the driver installation to complete. Nokia Ovi Suite should now be able to connect to your phone.
    If this doesn't solve the problem,
    -Uninstall the following programs withAdd/Remove Programs in Control Panel (called Programs and Features in Microsoft Windows 7):
    Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
    Then, download and install the latest version of Nokia Ovi suite at ovi.com/suite.

    Well, after being advised by Vodafone Customer Service to take it to a Vodafone shop to get it fixed else they will have to take it away for repairs, so I did.
    Vodafone staff says, we don't fix, but we can send it away for u.....
    So, back to square one.
    1. My phone has lost the bottom 2 touch icons due to a phone update
    2. So, I tried using Nokia Software Update on my PC, configutation error - Darn!
    3. So I use Nokia Ovi Suite - Cannot update - doubledarn!!
    Anyone has a [v40.0.003] file for Nokia 5230 that I can download direct onto my PC then copy to my phone for installation?

    Who is your carrier? Branded phones (phones brought from a carrier) will not do a software update until that carrier ok's the update. For example I am on 3 (in Australia). They only ok'd the update yesterday (9-Feb-2007). I had been trying to do an update and the Nokia Software Updater (NSU) couldn't connect to my phone. Once 3 had ok'd the update I tried again and the NSU did the update perfectly. NB:make sure you back up your phone memory and remove your memory card when you do - this baby wipes EVERYTHING!!
    My advice to you is to call your nearest Nokia Care Centre and give them the name of your carrier and the version of firmware you are running - (type *#0000# into your keypad and you will get it) they should be able to tell you if your carrier has ok'd the update or not - and if you are lucky they will be able to tell if/when they intend to ok it.

    i have a nokia 3250. i wanted to update my phone and i downloaded the updater from the website. but when i install it to my pc it says vbscript missing and it says fatal installtion error. what can i do.
    and is it good to upgrade my phone, i mean will i have any notable changes.

    I don't know if your phone supports Firmware over the air, but you can check here anyway: http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-update
    I've also no overview if there are any more recent update that you already have. But I guess you know there is a more recent one since youre asking...
    If it is released a more recent fw for the n73 and you cannot download it:
    It's likely because your phone is branded from Orange Romania and they haven't approved the most recent update yet.
    So what you can do is call Orange romania and ask if or when they will release the most recent update.

  • Nokia 5300 software update problem

    I don't know why, but I decided to updated Nokia 5300 XpressMusic with the latest software from nokia.com.
    I think that this was a mistake,
    because after the update (using nokia pc suite, fully charged bateryy and so on...) things have changed.
    Now, when i use downloaded from internet themes everything is almost okay, but if the top and bottom skin bars are grey for example on phone's desktop they are always blue, with every skin (except installed by default).
    And if I use these new themes the icons are becoming bigged for e second and normal after that (in menu), which makes them ugly
    And another thing, after the software update, when I go to menu and choose a category the icons inside the category are becomming a little bigger than before, which makes them ugly again, cause they are not made so big.

    I've done it myself, and it works. I doubt it's a bug of 3.92 software.
    About the logos getting bigger and smaller, again, that's probably a characteristic of the theme (you have to know that icon images are defined within the theme, it's more than only setting the background). If you don't like the logos, probably the theme is to blame, not v3.92

  • Nokia N97 Software Update Problem!

    My N97 was working fine a few mintues ago and I decided to update my version from v11 to v20.
    As I've updated my version before and nothing was wrong I didn't think of backing up my data (stupid), as the update was downloading I minimized the NSU as my brother wanted to use the computer. When I came back it said something like "Update failed" can't remember what it said as I just read quick and pressed "Try again", it didn't work so I hoped that the second time it would work. Unfortunately it didn't work so I just decided to press Cancel. The NSU was shutting down and I checked my phone and the screen was all white so my immediate recation was to take out the battery and put it straight back in. I done that and I tried turning on the phone, nothing happened except the phone vibrated like it usually does when I turn it on but it didn't turn on, when I hold the power button it just keeps vibrating. Took out the battery several times, waited about 5 mins and put it back in and yet didn't work. I put the phone in the charger to see if it would charge, nothing happened. Put it back in the usb and it keeps connecting/disconnecting but nothing happens.
    I have loads of improtant files that are stored in the phones mass memory so I wouldn't like to have to do any type of reset that would make me lose my data. Please help!

    I am NOT an expert on this at all, even though I did recently update from V12 to V20. I had a different problem in that the phone would not start due to the Phone Memory (not Mass Memory) being full. In the end I was able to connect to the PC Suite and delete some application I don't use (like Facebook etc) and free up some memory to allow it to start.
    However, in doing some reading to find out what to do, I am sure I recall seeing that the hard reset of the phone only wipes the Phone Memory, not the Mass Memory.  Double check that by reading some of the search items on Hard Reset, but I think I remember that correctly.  You will lose your contacts and message/web history but that may not be as big a problem as the other important data.
    I did do a backup first but did not have to use it as it updated to V20 without losing any data (as you experienced on your earlier update).
    Unfortunately I now have another issue, as V20 seems to work differently in the file system and I cannot transfer files as I used to any more but I will put that question in a separate thread.

    When i begin updating my device's software(from the original server profile, and the original application) it checks for update, it understands that there is available update (i have v20.0.080 now) it downloads it and when it tries to install it, it says that its not compatible with my device ? how is this possible ?

    updates vary by region and product code and if phone is network locked you have to wait until they approve the update

    I have the same issue on my iPhone 5s
    I've closed the app and re-booted the phone several times but it did not resolve the issue.
    Upgrading to iOS 8.0.2 did not resolve it either.
    Erasing the iPhone and restoring from a backup did not resolve it.
    I'm not sure what else to do.
