Nokia 6555 - Main Display going 'dark'

I bought Nokia 6555 today and have been pleased with it but I have one small problem: The main dispaly of the phone goes quite dark (tries to save power I suppose) if I keep idle for 10 secs. It's quite frustrating to press some key to get it bright again. Can I change this time or perhaps get the power saving off completely somewhere? Thanks in advance!

Most new handset with a colour screen has this problem.
Once the lights go out on the screen it sends the screen into darkness and the only way to get it back again is to press a button to light it all up.
On the older handsets where the screens were 'black and white' this was never a problem.
I'm afraid that is just how it is and there is not much that can be done.
My posts are my opinion and in no way the direct views of Nokia.

  • Toshiba LCD 46G310U display goes dark

I have a Toshiba 46" LCD model: 46G310U that when first plugged up has a perfect picture on all inputs. However after a few seconds to a few minutes the display goes dark with a horizontal line across the screen about half way down. The horizontal line will fade out after 25-30 seconds leaving the screen dark(back lights still works). I have replaced the inverter board, the T-Con Board, replaced most of the larger capacitors on the power board, I have even replaced the cables that connects the T-Con board to the main board. If I unplug the tv and leave it unplugged for several minutes when I turn the tv back on, the picture is back and purfect for the first few seconds or up to a couple of minutes, then the screen goes black again. Please any help would be apprecieated. Thanks.

You may want to find an authorized service provide to repair the TV.

In the worst case, it's still under warranty (all 7th gen nanos are still under one year from purchase).
So, you disconnect it from power, and it almost immediately goes dead?  You can try a Restore... but it doesn't sound like the type of problem a Restore will fix.
You should probably have it looked by Apple Tech Support.  If there's an Apple Store nearby, you can take it to the store's Genius Bar.  To avoid waiting, you can make a reservation at the store's web page

  • Clicking sound when display goes dark on 24in iMac

    Hello all,
I have the strangest problem with my iMac. Everything works perfectly with my 3.06Ghz 750GB HDD iMac (24 inch), except one small annoying thing. When the display turns off to save power (after 15 minutes or whatever it is set at), a faint clicking sound can be heard from the upper left hand side of the computer. It sounds like....the head of the hard drive moving back and forth, similar to a muted version of the optical laser movements that can be heard when a CD is being read. This has been happening for several months, maybe over a year now.
This ONLY happens when the display enters powersave mode. It stops immediately once the display backlight is turned on. I am guessing it is my hard drive, so the normal course of action is to get it replaced, but this has been happening for quite some time so it doesn't appear that the hard drive is failing. Any ideas? Should I just get the hard drive replaced? Doesn't this sound like a software issue?

Robin I am not a tech and I do not know what is happening but that was happening to mine a few weeks ago.  I put off calling the tech because by pressing four keys I could get back in.  It finally went and they cannot even find my HD now.  Lost a lot of edited photos.  I now have a new 2T HD and am being backed up by time machine - but it cost me!!!  Mine is 3 years old and the tech told me that that is about par for the HD they make these days - again I am just quoting.

  • New cinema display on Mac Pro monitor keeps turning off/going dark. Support told me a keyboard shortcut (something like option R L)... I'd appreciate it if anyone knows it. I had this problem when i 1st bought it 2 months ago.

My new cinema display fro mac pro just went dark. When I 1st bought it, the display wouldn't turn on.I called support and they gave me a keyboard shortcut - something like Option+R+L - that you held down for 2 restart cycles. Then it magically turned on. I can't remember the sequence and I'm afraid to guess! I'd appreciate if anyone knows the trick. I'm also wondering if I should bring this display back...

Cassandra from Apple Support ROCKS!!!! She's a supervisor somewhere and should have a raise. Pleasant, smart and professional with a customer who wouldn't take "I don't know" for an answer.
If your cinema display goes dark:
    1. shut down computer
    2. restart
    3. immediately hold down Command-Option-P-R keys simultaneously for a few minutes (seems forever)
    4. keep holding keys for 2 startup cycles
    5. release and go back to work if you're lucky to have a restored screen

  • FW  800 screen goes dark after startup

My 1.25 GHz FW 800 15" Powerbook is having startup problems similar to some things I've found here but not identical to any of them.
It boots normally to the Finder but, after about 1 minute, the trackpad and cursor stop responding and then the display goes dark and the machine goes into what seems to be a low power sleep mode -- Caps Lock light still on but display will not illuminate if keys are pressed. Machine won't wake and must be rebooted.
This happens while connected to a 65 W power adapter and with or without a battery in place. (Tested with 2 different power adapters.) Power lights on the battery indicate full charge. Connector ring shows normal green status.
If I boot from a DVD, the machine runs indefinitely without shutting down but the keyboard and trackpad don't respond and I have to use an external keyboard and mouse (both of which work normally). The fact that it runs indefinitely seems to differ from the known temperature sensor failure; the fact that the trackpad and keyboard don't work in this mode may still point to a top case problem, though.
Based on these symptoms, I assumed that I needed to replace the PRAM battery (backup battery). Unfortunately, even after carefully replacing the battery and letting it charge while connected to the power adapter for several days, the same symptoms persist. (Tested with 2 different replacement PRAM batteries although one of them may have been worn out.)
Resetting the PMU has not changed anything. Resetting PRAM has not changed anything.
This has happened in both OS 10.4 and and a fresh install of 10.4.8. Apple Service Diagnostics found no hardware problems when run for multiple cycles.
I'd appreciate any diagnoses or suggestions for repairs.
    thanks,
    pat

    adamgritz,
I'm quoting myself from an earlier post...
"This behavior on the Wallstreet running any version of OSX is normal •IF• you have no working main battery and you also disconnect the power adapter. Once all power is lost to the power manager, OSX somehow modifies the power manager in a way that causes backlight issues. Booting back into 9.x cures the problem; in addition, this issue does not occur with 9.x and loss of power, only OSX. As long as the power manager is maintained via a charged main battery and/or power adapter, this "fix" will stick. The PRAM battery (internal rechargeable backup battery) can maintain the power manager for a few hours if fully charged (and working) without any other source of power but your 10 year old Wallstreet probably has a dead or weak battery...these powerbooks will run without a PRAM battery."
In addition, if you do not have 9.x installed, any bootable non-OSX CD will solve the problem.

  • Screen Goes Dark when No files Are Open

    Hi,
Since I installed the CS 6, I seem to have a problem with my display going dark whenever Illustrator CS 6 doesn't have opened files, i.e., the application runs, no files are open, and my whole screen's brigthness goes down. It only happens with Illustrator CS 6. When I open a file, the screen goes back to normal. Has anyone had that problem?

Unfortunately attempts to take a screenshot to show you have resulted in the interface look as it if were at full brigthness so I can't show you (well unless I edit the screenshot after). But basically the whole screen brightness goes dark until I open a new file. And it only happens with Illustrator CS6. I still haven't been able to solve the issue and I can't find anything on the net about that.

  • My monitor goes dark 27 inch 3.1 iMac.

Got this wonderful new iMac for Christmas except the display goes dark now about every 15 minutes.  I tried a software fix -- did not work. Is there anything else or should I just pack it up and send it back?

Thanks for the input. I was not specific enough.  This was happening while the computer was in use, so the sleep setting should not be an issue. And yes, I am aware of Apple Care -- my first Mac was the 512K Enhanced -- but I was hoping to resolve the situation with getting Apple Care involved.  I say was, because for some reason, the problem has stopped.  I have had 24 hours of nonoccurrence, including a couple of sleep periods.  I had downloaded a software patch from Apple, but that seemed not to help.  Had 3 or 4 occurences after that. However, the malfunction has stopped for whatever reason.

  • 6131 newbie - main display on call

Hello again, another question about my new 6131. When I am on a call, after 10 seconds or so, the main display goes blank - sounds stupid, but it used to be quite useful on my old motorola that whilst on a call, you could check the display and verify you were still on the call (!) and see how long the call was lasting, and the signal strength. Can anyone help please? Thanks.

    Thanks for your answer.
More specifically it was under Clusterwide Parameters - Device Phone

  • Display goes black when in a call

I have noticed an annoying feature with my Nokia N8: The display goes black when in a call (holding the phone to my ear). When the call is finished I have a difficulty to close the call. Is this a Nokia special feature for saving battery that can be turned off or is it an error?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hey Is1987Is! Sorry you are having this problem.
It is normal behaviour for your screen to go black when held near your ear.
Is your screen just not coming back on once you finish your call or take it away from your ear?
Incase it is a bit more of a serious case of your phone having a black screen after hanging up a call. You can try this troubleshoot.
To make sure your proximity sensor is not over sensitive causing your phone to have a black screen, during incoming and outgoing calls aswell as alarms.
First thing is try to verify sunlight/IR oversensitivity with a typical desk lamp.
This could be done by making a phone call (or setting alarm) and putting the phone under the desk lamp when the phone is ringing (or alarm activated).
If phone is oversensitive to IR, display should go blank caused by IR radiation from desk lamp.
If this is the case you should take your phone to your Local Nokia Care Point, and they will be able to fix it for you!
I hope this helps, let me know if your phone goes black screen during an incoming calls when you test it under the lamp!

Hi, firetiger.... i have the EXACT same problem!!! i have the same Macbook aluminum unibody screen also. I have no idea how to fix it. I'm also out of warranty and i've tried everything... resetting the pram, trying to restart in safe mode, trying to boot from a cd... .NOTHING WORKS!!! i can still control brightness itself but ive never tried attaching to an external monitor. I know everything is loaded correctly... i just don't know whats wrong. If you have any ideas.. please let me know. Also, I think apple will fix the macbook pros with a similar issue for free http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 but i know this doesnt apply for me. hopefully they work something out because I really love that computer!!!

  • IPad 1 Wifi / 3G Display sometimes goes dark but iPad is still seen by iTunes

Display sometimes goes dark but iPad still works and is still seen by iTunes. It can sometimes be fixed by rapidly hitting the power button and holding the home button.
Holding the home button and then pressing the power button ALWAYS takes a screenshot and I can hear the screenshot sound.
The screenshot it takes when dark 99% of the time is of the lock screen, but sometimes it takes a screenshot of a blank screen. Perhaps that is after the screen sleeps.
The problem is very intermittent; sometimes the display will work for weeks, sometimes for minutes. Started doing this out of the blue, no drops or bumps before it started.
Seems like possibly a connector or voltage issue?
I would say power button, but the power button ALWAYS works for screenshots.
Any ideas? Right now the display is not working and I'm having problems getting it back on.
I have tried opening the iPad and do not see anything out of the ordinary.
Any inexpensive recommended vendors that can repair this if a solution is not forthcoming?

the iPad doesn't have the feature to turn off 3G service and is searching for STRICTLY 3G coverages.
We need to ASK Apple to add this as a feature to ANY 3G iPads!!

  • Display suddenly goes dark

    Hi everyone,
I've had my iMac for 8 months, I use it every day but not all day, I turn it on about 2 or 3 times a day for about 30-60 minutes at a time, though occasionally I will use it for longer periods at a stretch.
For the past couple weeks, the screen will suddenly go dark, like it's going to sleep. If I tap the keyboard, it wakes up, and at first I thought this was due to the display going to sleep, but I have it (both the display and the computer) set to sleep after 15 minutes, and it's happening sometimes if I only keep my hands off the keyboard of mouse for a minute. Should I take my computer into the Apple store? I didn't buy AppleCare but it's only 8 months old, and this doesn't seem like a usual problem, I couldn't find any other posts on this matter.
    Thanks,
    Lizzy

my Macbook (with all the latest updates) is doing this daily as well. usually when i am working on something like excel or entourage just happened again when i was in excel. touch the tracking pad and it comes right back. the darkness is like when it is going into sleep mode even though it is no where near sleep mode as i'm actively using it.

  • TS4080 apple thunderbolt display image on display intermittently goes dark, does not wake from sleep after clicking mouse or keyboard, but there is "bonk" sound after clicking mouse or pressing keys. Rebooting by pressing the power button resolves issue.

My apple thunderbolt display (which I purchased 1.5 years ago; OS 10.7.5 Mac Mini) intermittently goes dark, does not wake from sleep after clicking mouse or keyboard, but there is "bonk" sound after clicking mouse or pressing keys, so am thinking it is a hardware problem with the display. Rebooting by pressing the power button turns the screen back on, but the same phenomenon has occurred several times. Could this be a software issue, or do I need to have my display repaired? Your feedback would be appreciated.

Hi ED, tough to tell, but it does sound like it's waking with the bonk, just not displaying.
    Long shot but...
I wonder if it's a variation of this, of which I've seen many different symptoms...
    Resolution
Move the mouse or trackpad cursor over the center area of the login window so you can see the user icons. Click on the icon of the user that you would like to login as, type in the user's password, and press Return.
If the login window is configured to show only the name and password fields, type in the user's name and password into the fields, and press Return (even if you cannot see the rest of the login window).
    Additional Information
This issue will not occur if the display is not sleeping when the account is logged out. Use the steps below to confirm that the account is not configured to log out automatically while the display is sleeping:
        1.    Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.  Click the padlock to unlock the preference pane and enter your admin password. Click the Advanced button at the bottom, then see if the option "Log out after N minutes of inactivity" (where N is the number of minutes) is enabled.
        2.    Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and configure Display Sleep to occur after the account is logged out, by dragging the slider to a number of minutes that is greater than N was set to in the previous step.
Important: If automatic log out is not needed, disable "Log out after Nminutes of inactivity" in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. This will also prevent the issue.
