Nokia 6710 Navigator keypad problems

Hi, I have a relatively new 6710 Navigator but the keypad is starting to do strange things. Occassionaly it wont recognise that I have pressed a button despite having pressed it several times and now it starts another function when I press a different button. E.g Maps startup when I press call cancel button. are there any reset functions/instructions to reset phone?

Here I was thinking I was the only one having these problems.
My phone is being replaced for the 4th time. I have rung Nokia helpline (waste of time) now waiting on head office to return my call about a refund. I've had it for 6 months and it only works the day I get it and slowly deteriorates from there on until I've had enough again!
The zooming, the messaging, maps starting up, keyboard freezing and the loud speaker... loud is not the word I'd use. I can barely hear it and have resorted to holding the device while driving which I'm against.
Has anyone had their phone replaced with a different model by Nokia? They customer centre told me they don't do it,,,, ever!

This is driving me mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  How do you delete the map history on the Nokia 6710 navigator.  I have played around with the phone putting in all different locations to try it out, but now want to get rid of all the saved locations.  Have even restored factory settings, but when go to maps all the old locations are still there.  You cannot highlight and delete them with the 'c' (cancel key) either!!
      Advice please???

Have even restored factory settings, but when go to maps all the old locations are still there.
That  would be as you have not deleted anything from the maps .
Previous posts that may help .
Favorites can be deleted on maps.ovi.com on your PC. If you are synced, the your favorites would appear there. Once you delete them there and sync again, the favorites on your phone would be deleted as well.
Go to Menu>Apps>Location>Landmarks. Delete them from there.
That fails contact the maps team at Nokia .

  • AVOID the Nokia 6710 Navigator.

ALL my problems began on wed, the 6710 arrived, put in my sim card all was well, then it goes down hill all the way down
into a deep ditch then into lots of poo.
After several hours of use, say 3 the zoom bar was making it zoom in and out on webpages and nokia maps, no option to turn off the zoom bar so i ring up my service provider and tell them they tell me to take it to the 3 shop and show them the fault ok no problem...
I get into the shop and show them the fault...
    Zooms in and out.
Now it's triggering the centre button for the menu too, so now it selects things you don't even select, how nice.
30 minutes later I have a swapped phone, while in the shop i put the sim card in and I run Nokia Maps 3.0 the screen
loads up and all of a sudden i hear a loud static type white noise coming from it next thing i know the phone switches
off, ok possibly a bad bug (no GPS reception to get a lock it just got confused), wifi everything else looked ok.
still, best run the GPS app to find your location, again it crashes it restarts on it's own.
Anyway I used the other features seemed ok no crashing so i left the shop,  I get back home 20 minute drive, I open up the GPS locator app again, surprise surprise it crashes yet again
So I tried it once more, what else i have i got to lose, next thing i know the PHONE REPEATEDLY started switching itself off and then on, i would see the nokia logo intro screen start up, then it would die and turn off, I sat and watched it switch itself on and off like this for about 2 minutes ok let's pull the battery out and wait a few minutes I put the battery back in and went to switch it on.
???? switch on.... pressing the power button, not switching on, this has died, completely and utterly died (yes phone charger is plugged in battery half power before it died)
ok fine... I head back to the nokia store.
Look see, this is even worse it's now dead, ok...
THIRD phone taken out of yet a new box (i'm on my THIRD 6710 in only 48 hours) PLEASE let this work, ok zoom bar works, gps works, no crashes ok good fine THANK YOU!!!!
oh um, hmmm I run nokia Maps i try to get it to navigate, oh Nokia has a lifetime licence or 2 years at least for the nokia 6710, but mine is telling me i have to pay for a perscription um ok what?....
fast forward 3 hours of talking to Nokia, my service provider, tech support, you name it,  i spoke to them, EVENTUALLYafter no less than 4 phone calls to the nokia centre first time they put me on hold, second time they said they would call me back (still waiting for that phone call) I tried once again but i got no answer..
Finally a 4th (nice woman) i explained the problem and explained that this is the 3rd phone, but all the licences have already expired this is not what i bought...  ok to try and help I recalled some info which i read months ago about nokia taking sim info and matching it against the IMEI
after 1 1/2 hours on the phone she tells me i'm in 'luck' she then had to track down someone with level 3 nokia privlidge or something like that as she did not have the clearence to do this job, so 30 minutes later she tracks down someone in the know and in clearance to do this 5 minute job...
Finally after 2 hours I managed to supply her with enough info to pass on to change my licence info to match the 3rd phone...
    Yay
    3 phones, $20+ of calls
    3 hours of talking
    No licence
over 4 hours of "resetting, trying. deleting, installing"
Vast amounts of time and effort wasted trying to get the 6710 Navigator working.
Something which should have taken only an hour turned into an absolute nightmare.
So if the first 2 were faulty, this would indicate that ON AVERAGE only 1 in every 3
nokia 6710's actually WORK, and there's no evidence to suggest that even this 3rd
one will be working in 6 months time either due to the zoom bar's really bad design
    or design flaw.
So is it a nice phone?.... yes it's feature rich and very powerful providing it works.
1/10 for build quality, stay away from it, I now have to live with it and hope nothing goes wrong.

I was just thinking, if it is a cable that comes lose which connects the slider bar and that's the root issue because it's poorly connected to begin with....How many people when calibrating the compass (like i did to begin with) would overly shake the phone, up down, around, side back to front.... each time it's not going to help a poorly connected cable..
I guess the answer to stop this slider/scroll bar  issue is a simple one, don't shake it, don't move it, just leave it on the table at home ) )

  • Sms problem bug with nokia 6710 navigator

hi, i'm jack, surfer from italy.
the new kind of t9 with nokia navigator 6710 is really really bad, i'm searching to get the older one on this phone.
the problem is that when you press * to change the word, the phone become slower, and open a new window where you can see the words and choose. this thing is really uncomfortable and make you really slower and harder to complete the sms.
the big problem is that you can't enable or disable this option, you must use it! this is a very bad thing from nokia, cause people must choose their way to write sms.
i can disable and enable t9, so why can't i enable and disable this option? this is a bug from nokia in this phone!
please help me to find a patch, a software or something else to solve this problem, or if doesn't exist i need someone that advice nokia to put something to download on the site, to solve this problem.

  • Nokia 6710 Navigator Message Icon problem

    Hi,
On my New Nokia Navigat 6710 when i'm on the home screen with all the icons, at the top right part of the screen there is a flashing envelope. It is next to the bluetooth icon.
I've tried everything to get rid of it but nothing is working.
    Anyone know what is wrong?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
In such situation, basicly the reason is that messaging memory (which is phone memory by default) was full already. As such, pls try the following steps:
    - Reboot the phone and power up again after 15 mins (remove the battery, sim card and MMC abt 15 mins)
    - Delete outbox messages in Inbox, Outbox, Sent item...  (all messages if there are a lot)
    - Delete personal data (videos, songs, images, apps...), plus call logs, sms logs, packet data logs, caches, to set the memory free:
+ Menu > Log > Recent calls > Options > Delete recent calls
    + Menu > Log >  Call duration > Options > Clear timers
    + Menu > Log > Packet data > Options > Clear counters
+ Menu > Internet > Web > Options >Clear privacy data > Delete Cache and Delete Cookie
    - View and copy all Sim messages into phone: Menu > Messaging > Options > Sim message > Options > Mark/Unmark > Marl all > Options > Copy. A list of folders open --> select a folder > copy.
    - To continue, delete sim messages: Menu > Messaging > Options > Sim message > Options >Mark/Unmark > Mark all> Options > Delete
    - Select MMC to be used as memory for Messaging app: Menu > Messaging > Options > Settings > Other > Memory in use > slect the MMC (if any)
    - If the above steps can not help, you are advised to do the factory settings on the phone:
    Menu > Settings> Settings> General > Factory settings > Lock code (12345 by default)
Pls let me know whether it works or not. Tks

  • Nokia N97 - navigation softwares problem

    Hello all,
I have a little problem in my Nokia N97.
I installed on it some navigation softwares such as sygic.
In the music library of the player of the device I see all the voices files from the navigation softwares like turn left and all the files of the voice guidance.
Also in the pictures in the downloads category there are icons from the navigation softwares.
What I can do to hide all the files that they are not music files in the library of the player of the phone or the icons from the pictures viewer?
Thank you in advance for your help

  • Nokia 6210 Navigator Contacts problem

    Hi,
My phone dosen't display my contacts after formatting it.
The thing is that a week ago, my phone was starting to be very slow while trying to send and read text messages.
I've backupped my phone information and used *#7370# to reformat it (following this link). After the formatting ended, I restored the pone data and evreything came back (Text messages, calender records, phone settings) except for the contacts, even though there wasn't any error message.
When trying to restore only the contacts, I get a message that it was successful, but nothing happens. I've tried to use older backu-ps, but it didn't help. Moreover, I've tried to reformat it again and that didn't help too.
    What should I do?
    Thanks,
    Shaked.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

So, I entered the link you provided and downloaded this software, which converted my nbu file and allowed me to export all my contacts to vCard files.
Then, using Nokia PC Suite, I imported the contacts to the phone. Even tough the Nokia PC Suite said that the importing operation failed, it succeeded and all my contacts are now on my phone.
    Thanks,
    Shaked.

You don't have to backup Map license before firmware upgrade! After memory format you can refresh license by internet on your phone.

  • Nokia 6710 Navigator - Dust under the screen

My new phone bought on 30 Sept 2009 (barely 2.5 months)... and I had used it for about 1 month (the phone has gone back to Nokia Care center twice before... and the 2nd time was away for 2.5 weeks)....
This time, I noticed dust build up under the screen... so there is no way for me to clean it.. what should I do?

Unfortunately you cannot remove the casing yourself without invalidating your warranty. Best bet would be to send it back to the Nokia Care Point and tell them they left the dust in it after the last repair.

  • Can't update maps at Nokia 6710 Navigator

    1. Backed the phone up.
    2. Updated the phone software.
    3. Tried to update all the necessary maps directly via Ovi Suite by selecting and clicking "Download" button close to the country map name.
The OVI is very slowly preparing, and then brings me to the message that connection with Ovi Maps server is timed out. Is it really an issue today? Or am I doing something wrong?
PS. When I try installing maps via MapUploader, the phone reverts with a "full memory" message - can't understand at all how to figure out what is kept in 48MB of its memory?! (all messages/music are at memory card; videos removed; games removed etc.)

Timed out normally means the server is overloaded  unless you get the same message from other any web address . In which case its your connection .
Full memory means RAM     close all applications first ,

  • Nokia 6710 Navigator Maps

When I open my Maps application, it just goes white or in other words the screen is blank, what could I do to solve this?

Sounds like you don't have the correct map data. Connect your phone to Ovi Suite and use it to download map data for your country. Following that, start Ovi Maps and search for a street in your city. It should now show your search result on your map.

  • Nokia 6710 smart dialing

Hi, anyone knows a good app to enable the smart dialing on nokia 6710 navigator? this is a great phone but nokia make a great mistake on leave this feature out of this device.
in my opinion this feature will be the greatest upgrade in a future firmware

Some recent Eseries phones have a similar feature that starts searching your contacts as you type, but this is quite new - perhaps in the future it will find its way down to other models, though things like this most commonly come as part of new 'feature packs' which tend to be applied to new models and not made available to older models.

  • The Nokia 6210 Navigator is not going 2 Update it'...

I am very **bleep** Off Customer atm because I was told by Nokia Care Operator and a Manager at Nokia that the Nokia Ovi Maps 3.03 will not be available at all for my phone and I am extremely **bleep** Off with NOKIA atm.
I would have thought that when you bring out an Update for a Nokia Application u would make it availbale for all phones that have the Maps Application on the phone.
THE FACT THAT IT IS NOT AVAILABLE IS A TOTAL LOAD OF **bleep** WHICH FORCES THE CUSTOMER IN THE END TOO BUY A NEW MODEL SUCH AS A NOKIA 6710 NAVIGATOR WHICH HAS IT PRE-INSTALLED BY THE FACTORY. Thanks Very Much, NOKIA.
I am going 2 be thinking very seriously before getting another Nokia Mobile Phone because of this **bleep** treatment I have recieved from Nokia.
