Nokia 6790

I have a Nokia 6790 smart phone. I have had the phone since February 2011, since I have had the phone I have received an error message from my phone "SIM Card has failed registration" 5 times since activating it.
I have contacted Straighttalk and told them of the error message. They take me through a process of restoring the phone back to working order.
My question is has anyone else had the same problem with their phones, and if so what did you do about it.
Straighttalk told me that it has something to do with the SIM card... is that true?

sim cards can develop faults and become out of dae, it would certainly be worth getting your airtime provider to supply a new one , and it could well solve your problem !

  • Nokia 6790, Outlook 2003, and PC suite 7.1

    Until last week I had perfect sync between my Nokia 6790 and Outlook 2003 Contacts using PC Suite 7.1.  I am also using WinXP SP3.  The other day I started to get a red X on the sync button when trying to do a sync between the phone and Outlook 2003.  I tried the Office 2003 repair from the help menu, added a new profile in Outlook 2003, which the suite recognized, but still got the red X.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do next?  Thanks.

  • Downloading failed on Nokia 6790 slider

    I had a Nokia E71 and never had any issues with the Ovi store.  I traded it in for a Nokia 6790 slider which I got it set up and going, I downloaded the Ovi Store and went to download the youtube and it gets to about half done before it says Downloading Failed.  It does this with everything.  I deleted it and then re installed it also tried to delete all of the history and such with nothing working.  I dont know what to do at this point and if someone could help me please and thank you.

    Unfortunately I have this phone too and have experienced the same problem along with a host of other memory related issues. After all the research I conducted it all seems to just point to one answer, the phone is hideously underpowered. The phone has great features at a great price but it seems that the price is so low due to the processor being outdated and underpowered, in otherwords....sell your phone and spend an extra 100 or 200 on a better phone with the same features, thats what I'm gonna do anyway. I've had about 15 phones in my lifetime so far and this one I'd have to say is the absolute worst phone I've ever had.

    I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to sync my nokia 6790 surge with a macbook running lion version 10.7.3.  I have tried an isync program that was supposed to work with the phone , but it will not install.

    iSync is no longer part of Mac OS X Lion. You'll have to copy the iSync application from a Snow Leopard backup/system. This won't work forever though, as the system frameworks iSync uses are deprecated and will be removed at some point.

  • Nokia 6790 Slide... Can't hold down two buttons at...

    Okay, so here's the deal. With my new Nokia 6790, when I'm texting, if I hold one of the center buttons and press one of the outer buttons, the second key registers perfectly fine, but if I'm holding a center key, and I press one of the outer buttons, the second key will never register. The tech support guy gave me some **bleep** about how it's not possible to do, but my Kyocera Wildcard registered all of my keys perfectly.
    What's the deal? Is there a way I can program my phone to register keys more correctly?

    Sorry. I know, it's hard to explain lol. The 6790 has a full QWERTY keyboard.  there are three sections of buttons. If you find a picture of it online, you'll see what I mean. The yellow buttons with the numbers on them are what I mean when I say (center buttons)
    Some keys, when I try to press two of them at once, won't register. Others will, without fault.
    The ones that don't register are the ones with symbols on them (like @#$%&*, etc.) and I think the reason for this is because the way you enter a symbol is by pressing and holding its corresponding letter key. For example, to get an @ symbol, you have to press and hold the Z key until it shows up. The number keys (the middle keys) do this as well, however, so I don't know why it's like that.
    The point is, I text very fast and a LOT of the time I'll unconsciously press two keys at once. However, if i do this with one of the aforementioned keys, it simply won't register the second key. For example, if I try to type the word "what" fast, while hitting all of the keys perfectly, it will only actually register "wht" or "wa".
    I used to have a Kyocera wildcard and I definitely never had this problem. I'm fairly sure that it's a software issue, but it's very irritating because now I can't even text fast.

    I have a Nokia 6790 smartphone that will connect thru USB to my laptop and sync all items correctly but I can't get it to connect to the internet with my laptop.  The software works fine because my husbands Nokia smartphone works fine connecting my laptop to the internet thru PC suite.
    Can anyone else use their Nokia 6790 to connect their laptop to the internet?

    I saw in one thread related to this that you have to make sure that the process "iTunes Helper" is running when you have your iPod connected. You can see that by running Activity Monitor, select All Processes, and then look for iTunes Helper. Based on everything else you tried, there could be a physical problem with your Nano. One of the pin connections may be bad. Will it show up on another Mac's iTunes?

    My Nokia 6790 came with Ovi Maps installed, however when I try to upgrade I am asked to select the model from a list, and the 6790 is not listed.

    @alanbarneys -jj was just quoting a previous post. His posts are always like that. Even I at times have trouble reading them.
    Anyway, to answer the question regarding free maps to the 6790. This is a special case since AFAIK the 6790 Surge is a special edition phone available only through AT&T. Such special edition phones often do get software later. However, Nokia did promise to get newer phones availability to the Free Maps service this month.
    Please note that for certain models (the N86 in particular) are rumored to have a scheduled update for this month to make it compatible with maps. All you can do now is to wait and see if the 6790 is going to be one of the units with the upcoming update.
    Please note that currently, the only devices supported are those with the s60v5 operating system (touch screen) and non touch screen phones with s60v3FP2 operating system with 600mhz processors.

    I followed steps given by my operator (Moistar Argentina) to unlock a Nokia 6790 with the correct code than they sent me, but it seem to be invalid (said "código erroneo") and now say "No permitido" (not allowed) when try to unlock it
    the steps than they sent me are:
    1 - remove SIM
    2 - Enter #pw+code+1#
    The code was a 15 diigits code
    This is the correct procedure? try to unlock without SIM at the phone?
    And now than say not allowed, how can unlock my phone? I want buy a N97 then will sell my 6790 (unlocked to gain more money)

    Unfortunately you only get three attempts before you are locked out, although a Nokia Care Point would be able to reset device provided "Proof of purchase" available; also I hope provider instructions told you to use repeated inputs of  * key (star) for pw+ ?
    With latest devices the instructions do seem to be unlock without SIM in device, but don't know at which point in time this procedure changed.

    I just stumbled across Nokia Messaging. Love it! I've deleted my old mailbox and now use NM exclusively. However, SMS still comes in under the old software. Is there any way to integrate SMS into Nokia Messaging?
    Also, once the audible notification of new mail comes in, there is no indication on the home screen that I have new mail waiting. If the sound or vibration is missed, I have to keep checking periodically. Is there an alternative that I'm missing? Some kind of visual notification like in the "old system"?

    For SMS notifications there is no setting required... For audio alerts check your Profile settings.. and if you have a very high no. of messages stored on your phone.. delete as many as possible (from all the sub-folders of Messaging..) as this is one of the causes for 'NO notifications'...

  • 6790 USB transfer without the screen

    Hi,
    My nokia 6790's screen died a few months ago and I had to change my phone.  I now have a Nokia E63 and would like to take the contacts out of my 6790 and in my E63.
    The problem is that since I no longer have the screen, I can't go in the menu and set the phone to make USB transfers.  If anyone had pictures / indications on the menus so that I could do it without the screen, it would help me a lot.

    Not sure if this works but no harm trying..
    As soon as you connect the phone to PC thru' USB.. Press the Centre of the Navigation Key ( ..as if you are selecting some option that is highlighted on the screen..) .. see if the OVI Suite is recognising your phone...

  • Cant setup e-mail account after updating the SIM c...

    I have a Nokia 6790 Slider and Straight talk deleted my phone number by mistake, they ended up having to replace the SIM card and now my email doesnt work 
    I Click on my @e-mail address(0), It opens the e-mail inbox screen which is empty. I click back and it goes to E-mall Setup Screen. Then it shows Testing Network Connections Then Contacting e-mail server, then I get a screen with E-mail Provider Icons on it  Ovi Mail, Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, Other. I click on Other, Then A Getting E-mail Settings small window, then a small window with a place to put the E-mail address. I put in my e-mail address and click OK. Then I get Getting E-mail Settings small window, It does this twice then I get Unable to connect to server, Try again Laterin a small window. This is What I have been getting for the past two weeks ever sense you changed my cell phone number and replaced my SIM card.
    Other ways I have Tried

I have reset the phone back to factory settings, I even reinstalled the phone software and still getting the same thing. I think the problem is that the old email address is stuck in the phones memory and I cant change it. I wander if you can delete it so i can start all over, you would thing setting it back to factory would have done this, but it didnt.

    Welcome to the forum!
    Have you tried going to http://www.ovi.com/services/  Sign In and go to Account and try making your new number (Primary number) and click on the verify and you should receive SMS with embedded link?
    When it tries to verify during mail setup it should then reconcile with device.

  • Annoyed By Data Counter

    Hi, I'm new to this forum, so forgive me if I'm posting this question in the wrong section.  I recently purchased the new Nokia 6790/Surge.  It's my first Nokia phone, so maybe this isn't a new issue, but it is to me.  Every time I make a call, at the beginning of the call I'll get a "beep" and a message saying something about the "data counter being on hold", and as soon as the call is ended I get the "beep" again with another message saying something about the "data counter being active."  Not a huge issue, but personally I find it very annoying.  I have no idea what the data counter is (yes I know the name should be self explanatory), I just know I want it off.  Problem is, the only options I can find for the "data counter" are to use it either "when available", or "when needed". Both settings cause that annoying call interruption.  I see no way to turn it off entirely.  Does anyone know if this is possible?  Or at least fill me in on what exactly it's doing.  Thanks.

    Most cities are very incomplete at Nokia Maps
    As I could read at forums and confirm using Nokia Maps at a 6790, only work fine for Buenos Aires, while the direct rival (Garmin XT) has all roads and even several waypoints.
    At my case, San Juan, Argentina, Nokia Maps only has a highway (and say A01 instead A014), and some routes

    Well but also Garmin allow use of 3º party maps then I no use Navteq maps, here we use maps from Proyecto Mapear

    I sent my 808 in for service and requested a wipe to factory defaults due to some issues that I was having. When my phone was returned to me, I had great difficulty loging in to Nokia Account and Ovi Store Mobile. There is a round wheel that would just keep spinning when the respective apps were launched and eventually fail.
    There was also a odc.nokia.com error which claims to be expiring in 3 months (May 2014).
    I have returned my 808 back to Nokia Care. I hope the issues can be rectified.

    I visited https://odc.nokia.com.  The security certificate expires on 7/5/2014 (7 May 2014).
