Nokia 6820

I have a G4 powerbook, running OSX 10.2.8, bluetooth enabled and a nokia 6820 phone. The phone is discoverable as far as the computer is concerned but isync doesn't recognise the phone, which means I can't transfer the names and phone numbers stored on my phone to my computer.
Is there any way around this problem?
Many thanks in advance,
Malcolm

DataPilot seems to have software for the Nokia 6820
I don't have a CC so I won't be able to order online, but for sure check it out, and if it does what it claims let me know what you think..

You can't use S60 apps on 9210. And why would you need to From 3rd party sw, you usually see supported platforms. If S80 or 9210 is not mentioned, no need to buy that sw for 9210. Again, platform can't be updated to different version. 9210 has royal S80 platform, why would you like to downgrade that.

  • Mac driver for Nokia CA-42 data cable

I bought the Nokia CA-42 data cable w/o realizing that it only supported PC operating systems. I want to sync my Nokia 6820 phone w/iSync 2.2, but I'am currently stalled. Has a driver for the Mac been created?
    help needed here!
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I bought a CA-42 cable for my Nokia 3220. I have Virtual PC v.6.1.0 and Windows XP Pro installed on my eMac. I have enough RAM to handle running VPC/WinXP and Mac OS X at the same time (768 MB). Can I use the cable to connect my phone to my Mac, but while running VPC and WinXP? The phone SHOULD think it's connected to a PC shouldn't it?
I want to use the Nokia PC Suite to manage my phone, but also to back it up, as I want to have it flashed, and need to save everything, first.
I haven't been successful, so far, and would like to know if using Windows on VPC can be done, what settings I need to adjust, or if you have to actually have a PC (which would be a real downer [G]). This would be so much simpler if Nokia would just come out with a Mac version of their suite.Thanks.

  • Nokia Applications Installer keeps crashing!

I recently downloaded the Nokia PC Suite for my Nokia 6820.
It's working great with two big exceptions: one being that  the Applications Installer keeps crashing.
I've tried uninstalling it then reinstalling it, and repairing it to no avail.
    Any suggestions?
(The other problem im having is with the software updater which cant seem to find my phone, despite the fact that Nokia PC Suite finds it with out any problems. -im guessing this is because my model isnt one of the models that can make use of this program?)
    Thanks in advance

  • Nokia N900 - Broken part - charge input

Hi, hoping someone can help me please.
I'm not very good at explaining things technically.. Last night my Nokia N900 wouldn't charge. When I took the charger out of the port, something from inside the phone came out with the charger.
I bought my phone from the Nokia Store in Manchester, contract via Vodafone. The exact same thing happened to my boyfriends phone (same phone, same contract - we bought them from the same shop on the same day), he phoned Vodafone - someone came to his house and swapped the phone.
I phoned Vodafone and they said because I bought the phone from the Nokia Shop I would need to get it fixed via Nokia (despite my boyfriend getting his sorted via Vodafone?)
I called Nokia Customer Care, to be brutally honest I couldn't understand what they were telling me. It was a very bad line and there seemed to be a language barrier. So I then phoned the Nokia Store in Manchester. I explained what happened to my phone, they said it has been quite common and will be covered under warrant. They told me to contact a Nokia Repair Centre near me.
I phoned a local repair centre who near enough said it was my fault why this had happened and that it sounds as though it wouldn't be covered by warrantly. He would need to see what's happened to the phone to determine, however it's a good 45 minutes drive from my house, I'm hesitant in driving for an hour & half to be told it's not covered by warranty.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this fault and how they went about getting it repaired. It's just going round in circles now
    Thanks,
    Pia

    Hey Pia
Thats sad. The thing which came out with the charger was USB from the hardware.
And Yes, its been common problem with some batches of N900. Initially it was not covered by warranty but now it is. I guess your Nokia care is not aware of this. Here is the statement from nokia.
We are aware of reports that under certain conditions, the micro-USB port of a very limited amount of Nokia N900 devices can be detached. Product quality is of utmost importance to Nokia and we are investigating this issue further. Consumers who experience this issue should contact their local Nokia customer care. The same warranty applies to the Nokia N900 as with any other Nokia device. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

In the meantime Nokia and Yahoo! started a global strategic alliance which should strengthen both companies' positions as provider of email, instant messaging, maps and navigation solutions for both PCs and mobile devices. F1 teams are not happy at the moment with the way Sky shows F1 on limited platforms. Yes they would prefer FTA but will go with PPV but want it on as many platforms as it can but Sky only favours Apple ipads for the bells and whistles app. Sky is the only PPV provider of F1 that does not support wins 8 and Android large screen devices. So when it's up maybe BBC and BT will team up and take it from Sky (I wish) as they can't keep losing money and viewers like they are.

sky twitter account a customer ask why sky go streams are worst then sd and yet bt and eurosports apps stream in hd. Reply from mod, oh thats easy the files for hd are some huge that sky go can't play them and no app can stream hd due to this and so when they say they are they're really sd streams, if there was any way around this we would have done it now.

  • N900 Vs. iphone

I have been a die hard fan and user of Nokia since it launched 5110 in around 2000. Since then I have used almost all the top models from Nokia. The only phone I liked really were 6610 & E 71.
I got N900 and try to convince myself eveyday that its the best phone or internet tablet I have ever used.
But today it disappointed me very badly. My mate is a big fan of iphone and we always have argument which one is better. I always said N900. But today when he was with me I tried to open Many/all apps eg telephony, calendar etc. But it took tallest 30 sec to open any apps. And made me feel so embarrass. I discos from 3G , no apps running in background, but opening any apps taking so long is unacceptable, even after overclocking @ 900Mhz. I have used the iphone 3GS and its not bad at all. I know its made my apps but this is what we want afterall. isn't it. An app which can show a timetable of train/bus in 10 secs rather than opening full website taking 5 mins to do so. And many more.
I don't know what to say. I love N900 but I guess its not for use in public. Better use in private.
I know now many ppl here will jump on tell me to do this and that and tell me its all my mistake to buy it.
But anyone HONEST tell me if I'm wrong practically which one is better?

i don't have the probllem with the resistive touch screen either. infact i love it than capacitative. but the thing is now you go on any website and they have their apps made for iphone like banking, local stores etc. i know we can access full webpage but don't you think its more convenient to have the things in apps where you can do the things in few touches rather than going through the whole webpage.
my N900 sometimes takes ages to just open telephony (sigh). a yellowpage apps will pick your location straight away in the iphone and you just have to type the business name and here you go. you have all the info and contact and no can be dialed from the app whereas on our N900 its a very slow process of opening the web site then zooming it to fill the info of name and location than copying the no pasting in the telephony and calling. and if some how you loose the no than have to do the whole thing again. all the major banks in australia, India USA provide banking apps for iphone. allt he major airlins have apps for iphone. where you can check schedule, check in on iphone. you name any thing and they basically have an app. you go to another city and can order a pizza from dominos with that little app rather than going to the webpage and filling out all the details. it does have the apps for a common man which are needed for day to day business.
mbox where you can take a pix of a docs and save as pdf or send it as a fax or receive a fax direct on the iphone. docs viewer and editor app for which you dont have to pay anything whereas for our N900 it $15.00.
Microsoft was big b4 but since apple have got iphone in the market their worth is now 226 billions which says it all.
I'm not saying iphone is the best and N900 is not, but as a user of both the phones i think iphone got got more practical apps to be used on day to day basis than N900, but still love my N900.

  • FYI - E71 browser bug in HTTP POST authentication

Some time ago I wrote a simple CGI script to upload photos from my old Nokia 6820. (but as the camera was so awful, I didn't use it much...)
When I tried to use it with my new E71, it didn't work and the browser exited unexpectedly.
When I had a look, it seems I had a public page with a form to upload a file using  POST, then a CGI script that required basic authentication (i.e. a password). The N71 uploaded the file, got a 401 response, then died. Working browsers upload the file, get a 401, pop up a password dialogue, then resubmit the file with an authentication string and get the success response.
This seemed a somwhat crazy way to do it, on reflection, so I moved the form into the CGI directory. Now it works on the N71 - does an authentication step on the GET, and sends the authentication string with the first and only POST request.
(version 100.07.76; says latest for my phone in Canada)

After having read the RFC 4954, I must agree that the RFCs are a bit contradictory in this case.
RFC 2821 states that "all buffers and state tables [are] cleared". RFC 4954 states, that "after an AUTH command [...] no more AUTH commands may be issued [...]".
Taking both statements together, it wouldn't be possible to send two Emails within one authenticated session.
I digged into that a bit deeper, and discovered that some guys already found this contradiction:
    http://notabug.com/2002/drums-archive/6812
Unfortunately they simply removed the sentence. Replacing it with a more precise statement would have been much better. Especially the behaviour of the RSET command in authenticated connections should have been descibed.
So the RSET command resets all buffers and state tables of a _transaction_. The buffers and state tables of the _connection_ remain untouched. So the RSET command shouldn't flush an authentication, because it belongs to a _connection_.
Due to this misleading statements, we have some (a lot of) mail servers out there which flush the authentication. So it might be a good idea to take out the RSET command after the AUTH, though Nokia/Symbian implementation is not against the RFCs.
Simply go through the topics, and you will see that a lot of people have problems sending Emails. And they blame their Nokia, because all other mail clients work flawless.
So I agree: An RSET directly after an AUTH shouldn't do any harm. But in reality it does - due to misleading RFCs and therefore incorrect server implementations. And as you say, RSET doesn't make much sense there, so it should be removed.

  • Drive App on N9

The N9 Navigation is very limited.
    I did find the following limitations;
    1. There is no Favourite Tab/option
    2. There is no Save location option.
    3. There is no Fastest/Smallest Route option.
    4. Once you select a destination, the Navigation Mode keeps on taking you to the same route which it initially selects, even if you on online mode. It wont show you the alternate route..

    WHILE IN DRIVE:
    1.  there is no favorite, but it does remember all the addresses you searched.
while drive is open- menu/set destination/last destinations
    2.  this is the same as 1.   while in drive.
    3.  YES,  this is true.  although, that option has never been correct and given me bad information since the e90 anyway...so i never used/trusted it.
    4.  not sure why it is not recalculating route.  i have tried this just last night and it recacluated.  i do not remember it doing that on pr1.0, but it is working on pr1.1
    WHILE IN MAPS
    1.  if you search an address and tap the blue bubble, the address appears, then tap the (star) to favorite the location in the bottom of the screen.  after that, if you tap-menu/favourites you should now see the favorite there.
    2.  this is the same as 1.
    3.  again, it is not here either.
    4.  this  isnt really an option in the maps, only the Drive application.
    hope that helps.

  • No navigation options on Skype

I am trying to use Skype for the first time on my Surface Pro. I created an account and can sign in but don't see anything with navigation buttons,. I see only one page with three blue circles in the top left - phone, people, and search.
I cannot use any of the help stuff from Skype because all of it assumes that you can actually navigate away from this page!
Whenever I press enter and then try to do something (i.e., I tried to post this and when I clicked enter, it took me to a Skype sign in page and then to set up a profile on the community - so I don't know whether it was posted before.
I did uninstall it and then reinstall it (twice) but nothinig helps.
