Can i have your opinion please which way is better to update the mobile, or both methods will be the same?

In my personal experience I used the FOTA procedure a couple of times and I've been disappointed in both of them. So,according just to my personal experience, I wouldn't advise it.
Moreover, when you use Nokia Suite or NSU, you get a warning about backing up/restoring your data. Updating over the air doesn't seem to do this and goes over your old software, resulting in possibly corrupted apps (so, I think it's not advisable to do FOTA Update to a phone that didn't undergo the *#7370# reset BEFORE).
In my personal experience, the best sequence would be:
0 - synch your contacts/messages/agenda/multimedia files by means of Nokia Suite. You will use the same to restore data on your phone later.
1 - back up everything - you won't use this backup to restore BUT you never know...
2 - remove SD Card, if any, and format it
3 - delete mass memory (if any) using some good file browser
4 - do a deep reset with *#7370# (not three-finger salute that would delete useful apps)
5 - BEFORE restoring anything, UPDATE phone by means of Nokia Suite or NSU (I did it several times and still can't understand which one is better)
6 - resynch your contacts/messages/multimedia files/agenda using Nokia Suite (DO NOT restore settings and applications)
7 - now you can reinsert your blank SD Card, reinstall apps and reload data by hand - not by means of a restore.
I tried to cut corners restoring data from a backup, and sometimes even settings/applications... it NEVER went right, and I NEVER got my phone as it was when I backed it up, so I can't recommend using backup/restore procedure. Don't know why...
Just my personal experience, anyway. I might have been doing something wrong, since I'm not a Nokia technician...

yeas,there a couple of minor differences between the 808 and 701 with the same os version.t hese are becuase the fp1 is specially built for the 808 while the devices like 7011 are g=not getting it out of the box rather they getting as an update.there are differences between updated os and built in os.those handsets,which get an os built in,have some features which are especially and exclusively made for them like the ones you've described whereas if some other device gets it too,it gets it as an addition;not a basic element.

Nokia 701 new update

hi, buddys today i got an update from nokia for nokia 701....and the update is improve software version 1511...but wen i click to update its only processing and nothing happen ...why is that??

How are you updating the device's software? Is it via the Nokia Suite or via the in-device Software Update application? Are you getting any error message while trying to do the update? Can you try to update the phone the other way by going to the phone's dialler > dial the *#0000# > Options (3 lines) > Check for updates?

Nokia 701 telephone update

Hi everybody, A couple of days back an alert informing that an update for telephone quality improvement is available appeared on my Nokia 701 notification bar. Improvement in telephone quality and logs etc were stated as result of installation of this update. Mostly all 701 users in India might have received alert regarding this update on their hand sets. I installed the update and restarted the phone again. However I could not perceive any improvement in call quality after installing the update. Also the duration of logs is not extended and it is remaining at 30 days as before installing the update. I shall be thankful if anybody lets me know if he/she has installed latest update on their 701 and experienced expected improvement.

It's been a month or so since Belle FP1 is out and no sign of it for my phone yet. Last update took forever to show up also. What's up Nokia??

Firmware updates are often region and network operator-specific. This means that in some instances, some network operators may not approve the update that is released by Nokia, therefore they will not push the update to customers. The same applies for some countries.
It does appear that the Feature Pack 1 update is not available for either you or your wife's 701 handsets. This update may or may not be released in the coming weeks or months, whether it's dependent on your country or network operator or not. If your phones are operator-branded, i.e. have their wallpapers, screensavers etc, your best bet is to check with your network operator if the update will be released or is planning to be released. If it is a SIM-free, unlocked handset then please check with your local Nokia Care Centre.

Unfortunately several devices affected since Belle FP2, although upon my 808 I can still use camera with Camera Pro or Silent Film Director for Video ironically.

Nokia 701 wont detect the FP1 update

Hi all,
My nokia 701 in on v111.030.0609 and when I search for an update using either nokia suite, the onboard software updater or *#0000# options search for update, it will not find the latest update which I believe is v112.010.1404. Ive been checking for the fp1 update nearly daily for months because I despriatly want the included features and the overclock to 1.3ghz.
what could be happening to not be letting my phone update and how could i get the update on it

Nokia 701 code 059L499 - Update availability?

Hi all,
I saw a thread about update availability for user provided product codes, but that thread's been closed... can't find a new one, so I'm posting here:
I have a Nokia 701 PC 059L499 Italy no brand. I'm stuck to SW ver 111.020.0307 but Europe support page (Nokia Italy doesn't provide a support page for 701... Why???) states current release should be 111.030.0609.
Anyone could explain why, or provide news (release date, etc)?

I own a Nokia 701 and am still waiting for the 111.30.609 firmware update. My phone variant is 059L683. It's been weeks this update has been available to everyone but it never shows up for my model phone. My phone is running 111.10.1009 firmware right now.

Nokia has not developed their own software. it's really just adding some to old software. still they can't make i support to unicode font. all third party applications not supporting well. just like opera mini. i waste my money buying Nokia 701 . really i'm tired and fed up. android is better than nokia.it's supporting all unicode characters.

Microsoft Apps update not available for Nokia 701

From nokia conversations website, I could see that MIcrosoft Apps is available for Nokia 701 (http://conversations.nokia.com/2012/04/10/get-microsoft-office-for-symbian/) post Belle FP1 update. But I am not able to get that update. I am from India. My product code is 059J7M4 (This is a new code that I got after taking my mobile to Nokia care for software update).

If the Nokia care point staff has changed your product code in repair, they should have changed it back to the original before handing it back to you. In this case please visit the Care point and ask them to change the product code back to the original. If they have replaced enough parts, or the whole device, so that the product code has been changed as well, then it's just not available for your device yet.

Problem with belle fp1 on nokia 701

i updated my nokia 701 phone to belle fp1 and i really like the new features that came with. Since the upgrading, i do encounter problem with the phone. The phone may fail to recieve network while others are, or switching itself on and off continuosly until i restore it back to factory settings. This always make me to loose a lot of applications i have downloaded. It is painful because i have restored it to factory settings more than 5times within 5months. I'm afraid of upgrading to fp2 now. Pls enlighten me on how to solve this problem.

Sorry to hear that you are still having problems with your 701. It appears you have tried everything, so apart from performing a three-finger hard reset, and this not working, then your only option is to take your phone to your local Nokia Care point for them to take a look at.

I have a Nokia 701 (SW version 111.020.0307 - Symbian Belle).
I want to develop a NFC application which sends NDEF messages (through SNEP protocol) to an Android phone (Ice cream).
From what I could see till now, the SW version that I have in my Nokia phone does not support SNEP.
I want to know if there is any SW update for Nokia 701 which supports SNEP.

Just adding more information in order to clarify my questions related to this post.
I am pretty new in Nokia developing. Actually this is the first application I was asked to develop/change.
I work to a company which has a client that has an application that runs in Nokia 701 (SW version  111.020.0307 - Symbian Belle). They want us to change this application in order to be able to send NDEF messages through SNEP protocol.
From what I could see till now, current SW version in the Nokia 701 does not support SNEP.
I also saw that new QTMobility versions support SNEP. I would like to know if I download the Nokia SDK and the new QTFramework/QTMobility:
1- I would be able to change the existing application to send NDEF messages through SNEP.
2- Would the modified application run in the current  Nokia 701 SW release? Or we would have to install any new lib to have it working?
3- Where can I find which QTFramework/QTMobility version are supported in current SW 111.020.0307 - Symbian Belle?
Sorry if my questions are very rudimentary, but, as I said, I am new in the company and pretty new in Nokia development. All those terms  QTFramework/QTMobility are new to me.

fp2 is superb.but didn't have a exit button for camera. Avi large files and flv videos are not working with it

The reasons you don't see an update yet is because either your phone may be branded (e.g. has Vodafone or other network opeator specific customisations for the firmware), or possibly a country variant (i.e. Nokia provides the firmware, and your country's Nokia may not have got around to making specific country requirements or custom apps for your region/country). If you have a branded handset (you can usually tell by your phone having network operator's wallpapers and custom apps), then it is best to check with your network operator to their firmware update schedule, and whether you will be receiving the update or not. Otherwise, contact your local Nokia Care point directly from here at
