Nokia 7705 frozen?

I have a Nokia 7705 Twist (from Verizon) that I bought used and it is not activated on any service provider at the moment. I want to know if I should be able to access menus and place emergency calls when its not activated. Right now when I turn it on it shows a screen that has the Verizon logo and the top information bar showing service, that location status is set for E911 only, and battery status. The bottom menu bar that would have message, menu, and contacts is missing. None of the buttons appear to do anything (besides affect the screen brightness slightly) and I cannot shut the phone down with the end key.  I have to take out the battery to turn the phone off.
I want to know if this is because the phone is not active on a cell carrier or if it sounds like its frozen and will not work even if I try to activate it. I have tried removing the battery and reinserting, and charging for more time, but neither has helped and the battery indicator is showing as full. The amount of service shown does change depending on my location.
And if its "frozen" is there anyway to reinstall the software to repair it?

    Can someone pls help. My Nokia N8 is frozen. Nothing works! I had someone call me and now the phone is ringing non stop! Unable to answer, unable to reduce volume, unable to switch the device off!

    Try holding in the power button for about 8 seconds until you feel 3 quick buzzes. It should then turn off. You can reboot it now by pushing the power button one time like normal.

  • Nokia 300 Frozen Touch Screen

    Hi,
    I wonder if anyone can offer any help or advice on a problem I have encountered with a Nokia 300?
    The problem is that the screen seems to have completely frozen and as such the phone is now totally useless. I have tried all the usuall stuff like removing the battery etc but to no avail. All the more puzzling is that the keys seem to work fine,but as you need to swipe across the screen to unlock the phone these are also useless at present.
    Really I suppose I have two questions -
    1. Can anyone offer any advice on how to get the screen working?
    2. If the screen remains unresponsive is it possible to unlock the phone by any other means? so that I can retrieve phone numbers etc that are saved to phone memory

  • Nokia E51 frozen

    Hi my E51 after six months of excellent service is going haywire!
    the keys don't work and the display flickers a lot - i have managed to back it up and am trying to update the firmware to see if that fixs it and install the anti virus software (f secure from nokia site)
    problem is that as the keys are frozen when it boots (most fo the time) i cannot select pc suite - I tried removing the battery over night but it does not seem to help.
    any ideas??? happy to provide more info.

    I don't know how to fix so I give you the advice to go to a nokia care centre. It is a strange thing that happens to your E51 and it happened to my E60 too.
    I thought that I fixed the problem by installing f-secure. But because I also bought an E51 I switched that licence to my new E51 and now my E60 is unprotected.
    Until recently I did not have any problems with my unprotected E60. But..... a few days ago when i got home the battery of my E60 was drained. I keep the E60 connected to WiFi since it has my so-called land line number, and I take my E51 out with me and on that phone I have my voipdiscount account.
    Therefore I can not exactly tell what happened with the E60 but I suspect the strange behaviour started again now that it is unprotected.
    However, I am not 100 percent sure it is a virus or something that can be prevented with f-secure. My E51 can make calls through the f-secure firewall. But my E60 could not. So I disabled the firewall on the E60 to make phone calls.
    I suspect it has to do with something, or someone, that is trying to get access to the phone over WiFi. Even though the reports of others that describe the same problem are not consistent. They do not always report that they are in an area where there even is WiFi. But they seem to have it switched on. I am not sure if merely keeping WiFi switched on can provoke the behaviour under rare conditions.
    I would suggest you have the phone taken care of by the nokia care takers and now you have f-secure, use it. Others told me they cured their phone that way. But as said i am not 100 percent sure it has something to do with malicious software.
    Please bare in mind that it can also be the result of some software conflict. Did you install something new on your phone just before the strange behaviour started?

  • My Nokia 7705 won't let me sync music from my comp...

    I've been looking for help with this for weeks now and i can't find a bit of it anywhere. I wanted to put music on my phone so i went out and bought a micro sd card and tried to load music onto it using a usb to connect to my phone. I've tried literally just about everything. I switched over to USB Mass Storage mode and created a music folder and etc, etc,. But even after i put a couple of songs on the thing my phone still says there's nothing there. I also tried doing the Nokia Ovi Suite thing and apparently my phone model isn't compatible with it. I'm completely surprised by the lack of support from the manufacturing website. Am I the only one having this problem?

    I am Also having the same issue i cant get music on to the phone when i go into the usb mass storage mode and make a new folder it makes the folder and then when i add music i hit the cancel button on the Nokia phone and i go to the Media Center and click the my music tab and then it reads NOT AVAILABLE What do i do ?

    If I will startup my N95, I only get a white screen with the Nokia sign.
    The start will not go further, till the inlogpage.
    I saw an almost equal problem from Willowrise - subject"Nokia N95 frozen at start up".

    The nokia twist is now under feature phones tab but it requires  $10 or more data package... is this a glitch like the Kin Onem has with the smart phone data package requirement? Even though they're no longer smart phones...

  • N8 frozen at start-up on 2nd day after Nokia Belle...

    Hello,
    I bought my phone in Aug 2011. Have been enjoying it for over 6 months now. Updated to Symbian Anna in Oct 2011 (I think) and been using it without any issues. Yesterday afternoon I updated to Nokia Belle, installation was successfull, no issues at all, spent the rest of the day customizing the phone n stuff.. Today evening, while listening to the songs, the phone suddenly restarted, but it wouldn't start up now.. That Nokia hand-shaking animation comes and after that phone is just frozen with the screen showing only the wallpaper, nothing else, no menus, no icons, nothing! In the Notification area on the top, I see "Offline" (coz I removed the sim card), network icon with a "x" next to it and an empty bettery icon. I don't see why the battery would be empty coz before I started listening to the songs, it was 50% and so I was charging it while listening to the songs. Now since about 2 hours I've been trying to switch off the phone and start it, but no use.. It restarts n is stuck on that wallpaper. The backlight of the menu button is on for a few seconds after restart, but then it goes off and even if I tap on the screen or toggle the lock key, nothing happens.     Has anyone tried it? Would it help in my situation?
    Please tell me what to do? Is there anything else I can try? I have some private data on phone, so I'm a little hesitant of giving it to service centre.     I successfully used Advanced Device Locks Pro, and later Security lock on my previous phones (N86/N82). Recently I bought from Nokia Store the newest version of SL. It worked on Symbian Anna without problems. After Belle update I got after few reboots serious problem... Phone Menu could not be accessed in any way. Failure resulted 4 times, so I'm now convinced that it is caused just by the SL application.
    Now I have returned all the applications that I previously used, (except SL) and the phone works, and it can be run repeatedly. I found out that Security Lock is obviously incompatible with the current v. of Symbian Belle. Diagnosis and identification of the problem required 4 times triple code format included FW reinstallation.
    The problem itself: after installing Security lock on the N8-00 Symbian Belle a phone restart was done correctly. After another reboot, or simply switch off the phone with active Security lock protection, only a blank window appeared with a basic wallpaper without any context menu options or the possibility of inserting security code.
    The phone did not respond to any touch, soft keys were not initialized at all, only turning off using 10 sec. long press was possible. There was absolutely nothing to help. I tried to uninstall the application through PC Suite, but it was protected against the uninstall by a computer. Removing other programs in that way works. So the advantage of the security application turned against the user, and I managed to solve the problem only using triple code. I tried to describe the problem as precisely as possible, I hope you manage to solve these difficulties. In addition, I installed the current Belle v. 111.030.0609 on absolutely clean formatted phone without any data from the previous applications in *sys  and * private folders.

  • Nokia Lumia 820 - frozen photo shoot botton and so...

    I have problem with my nokia 820, where side buttons get frozen from time to time...so for example I can't reduce sound level, only increase. Photo shoot botton is frozen as well. I do not know if it is software or hardware problem.
    When I turn off /on phone all is ok for while, but not all the time.

    In the event that everything is up-to-date, performing a reset by going to Settings > About > Reset your phone is what we suggest. This will delete the data on the phone, so creating a backup by going to Settings > Backup is advised.

  • 5800 Nav Ed--Frozen nokia screen during shut off

    Had this phone for one month. When I tried to shut it down today, it stayed on the 'nokia' screen for a few hours. I tried to forcefullly shut it off by pulling out the battery. The fone shut off. But, when I place the battery back and turn it on, it stays at the same 'nokia' screen. Tried this a few times and no help yet.
    Any ideas anyone? Any way to reset the phone without losing my photos,videos, voice recordings and music?

    I'm currently experiencing the same problems with my nokia 5800 XM device. I transfered some song using the mass storage mode (connected via USB). Everything was fine the song was playing, but when I had to message the phone froze. I pressed the power on/off button but it didn't respond. So I removed the battery for about 30 seconds and tried to restart the phone
    Everything went fine but a bit slower. When entering the pin, I press a number and it would litterally take 10 seconds before the phone 'realized' my finger was on a number (for entering the pin). It took another 10 seconds before the * was shown. So after a bit of patience my phone was starting up (shaking hands nokia screen was as usual.). But when my phone was starting, nothing was showing on the sreen exept for my background and my operator (Not even battery power, reception or the contact & dialer buttons). After about a minute I pressed the menu button, the menu popped up as usual, but still it wasn't showing battery power and the reception. I pressed a menu button (messaging) and it took ages to load, I figured: **bleep** this, restart it again. My headphones were still plugged in so I figured maybe they caused the problem. No succes, same problem after restart.
    Next I did a hard reset of the phone (since my messages and the rest were stored on the memory card and didn't have any applications to backup) removing the memory card first. The phone reset nicely, I thought: oh sweet, problem fixed. I let the phone start and than shut it down so I could put in the memory card again. You can already guess, once the memory card was plugged in and I started my phone everything was deadslow again. Buttons responded with huge delays, icon's weren't showing, ... I tried to change my messaging memory from the phone memory to the memory card. "Memory not accesible". I opened the file manager (with lots of patience and controlling myself from not trowing the phone into the wall ) and saw the Memory Card was grayed out.
    Restarted the phone, didn't work, yanked out the battery, yanked out the memory card, started it up: Guess what: everything was lightning fast again. So what did I do to the memory card to get it **bleep**ed up like this and how to fix it? (My computer does not have a small Memory Card slot, neither any SD card converter where you can put in the small ones, so format via my computer is not possible)
    Also another question: When I first had my phone at first, I stored all my messages on the phone memory, after a while the phone's performance was nothing compared to what it should be. I looked at the available memory on the phone's internal memory and it was about 20 MB left, so I first removed some programs. I found the option of storing my messsages in the memory card, did that and moved my messages. Did a hard reset and the phone and it was good as new (with my messages intact). But kept on storing the messages just right in my inbox (now located on the memory card) but after another 1000-2000 texts the phone was slowing in performance. After 4000 texts it took ages to load one or to load an empty text screen when pressing reply. So I move my texts to the 'my folder', after the copying the messaging went back to usual. Before my problem described above with my memory card I had around 8000 messages in 'my folder'. Now my memory card is removed from my phone, I had no texts anymore, but the messaging's performance greatly improved again. Is this a common S60 problem? My brother owns a N-series phone and also complains about the performance slowing when he has too many texts stored.
    Anyhow, thanks for reading all this and I hope someone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Nokia Lumia 920 overheating frozen

    Have tried soft reset but this is not working. My phone has been overheating and freezing for ages,  very frustrating as i dont do anything very much on it. The odd game - talking tom or facebook is about it. Have tried doing soft resets each time and has worked up to now. Have also uninstalled whatsapp as people have said that might be an issue. Have uninstalled fb app and only access it online. Seriously dont do anything else on my phone. If I do hard reset how can i back my stuff up beforehand if i cant even use the phone!!!!

    Welcome to the forum!
    It is normal for the phone to get warm when in intensive use. However, if you think that it's already too hot, you'll need to check it with the Nokia Repair Facility for further tests. 
    With regard to the 4G concern, Is your phone unlocked or unbranded? 4G will be supported if the operator or SIM that you are using supports 4G connection as well. It is best to contact your operator for more information about their network coverage.
