Nokia 808 Flash goes on at a time of sms arrival

Hallo!
The flash light on my 808 goes on on its own frm time to time. Mainly it happens during SMS arrival. It goes on and stays on untill I switch it off by pushing slider down for few seconds. Accidental pressing of slider is excluded as it happens even when phone is laying on my desc. When I notice this I switch it off but it happened few times in the pocket and flash is draining battery.
I just send few SMS and observe that flash goes on for a moment but switches off. I wander if flash is somehow related to notification of SMS or other messages? Does anyone have same problem or can advise how to solve?

I fixed it by disabling notification light for SMS

I had belle for few weeks on my n8 now and I noticed very annoying issue. At completely random times screen goes off. It is not going off per settings. I have to lock the screen and then unlock it or else there is no response by touching it. I could be browsing web or checking email and it will go dark, it is not because of lack of activity.
    Any help ?

    Hi aim1999,
Have tried performing a soft reset or hard reset on the phone to see if it was a bad install?
To do Soft reset: Enter *#7780# into your phone's keypad
Note: this will not delete any data from the device.
To do a Hard reset: Enter *#7370#
Note: You will need to back up your data before you do this because it will erase all data from the phone.
If this still does not fix your problem, you may have to take the device into a Nokia Care Point for further inspection.
    Regards,

  • Need for Nokia 808 reinstall stock camera.

I install the app  'camerapro for N8 and 808' and set as default camera. But the stock apps show blank black screen while still can take photo. I'm unsure whats going on. I turn off Camerapro apps as default, but the problem still presist. I tried reboot the first 2 times it still the same. Until I tried for more than 5~10 times finally get it to work but very unstable. Sometimes the stock camera run to standby mode when I already press the hangup red button to close the apps. Once I take a photo and go to gallery and try to go back to camera mode it sometimes shows a camera screen yet no option to change setting at all or even blank screen when press on the shutter yet can take photo.
I need to reinstall the stock camera apps and hope it will fix the problem that the camerapro cause to my nokia 808 stock camera.

Have similar issue to yourself upon 808 re-furbished to latest 113.010.1508 software. Whilst stock camera application icon worked about two times after firmware installed it no longer does, however although Camera Pro installed it is not chose as default but in Stock > "Preferences" I have selected "Capture when phone locked" so I can launch stock camera at anytime by pressing shutter release if this makes sense.
I thought that maybe this error was restricted to my device as since Belle FP2 I always get a "System error" screen on booting which disappears upon clicking OK but I can find no other adverse side effects upon device.
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

    Hi PBhowmik,
Please read this article for a detailed explanation: http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Pool-of-Knowledge/Should-I-worry-about-viruses-or-malware/td-p/10961...
Honestly, anti-virus is a waste of time on Symbian and S40 handsets, i have never used it and have never been infected, because simply it's a non-issue. You'd be better spending your money elsewhere on something useful.

  • The future Nokia OS update for Nokia 808 PureView ...

Warm regards to the Nokia family and all members out here!
Ive been a Nokia fanboy for the last 5 years, and have bought most of the smartphones produced by our very own Nokia. India is a very good market for Nokia, but since the past few years, people are just moving towards other platforms for some reason(s)..
Having said that, I would like to inform you that I bought the Nokia 808 PureView Cameraphone recently, and im enjoying the overall experience, though, I would like to give some of my suggestions for the future Nokia (Symbian) OS with a view to better it as a complete smartphone OS and lessen the number of unsatisfied customers. So, without wasting any more time, I'll come to the point straight away. Below are my opinions that ive summarized-
1.) For a better visual experience:
         - Horizontal scrolling in menu is highly recommended as its simply more practical and easy-to-use.
         - An option for changing wallpapers while changing HS (homescreen) or setting a single widescreen wallpaper that scrolls in every HS would be a welcome addition.
         - Size of icons in menu should be reduced to around half of the current size in FP1.
         - Simpler and faster theme effects.
         - The pop up menu (when 'options' is pressed) while being in the landscape screen orientation (in any app) should be  worked upon so that it populates more options while covering a lesser part of the screen.
         - The bounce back effect of tkinetic scrolling in some apps, like browser for instance, shold be reduced or disabled.
2.) For better apps and overall experience:
         - App open and close delay should be minimized
         - App installation time (specially QT apps) needs a reduction..
         - the browser needs a major update with full support of flash and improvements in pan & zoom functionality.
         - Im satisfied with the number of apps available, so this is not an issue with me
         - The qwerty keyboard responsiveness and key positioning needs an improvement. Ive compared it to other OSes myself and found out that I made less errors on those..
As im short of time, thats it for now. Hope you guys at nokia take this as a positive feedback and work towards improving the overall experience of THE BEST CAMERAPHONE ON PLANET, ie, THE NOKIA 808 PUREVIEW (and other capable hardware phones).
    Thanx,
    Varun Paul

Hello…I own an 808 PureView device. At the outset, I must congratulate you for creating such a marvelous device. It’s in all dimensions a brilliant Smartphone and has no major lags except a few which I would like to mention as suggestions to improve the general smoothness and usefulness of its User Interface (henceforth-UI).
The in-built gallery lacks ‘mark multiple items’ option which, if integrated, can be fruitfully used to delete or send multiple items though Bluetooth. Also, the in-built gallery lacks ‘renaming’ function which would otherwise be helpful in organizing the gallery items, and in giving custom names which are easy to remember and deal with.
The generic MUSIC PLAYER lacks the track/music search function from within the music player, and so, to search a song out of the vast collection, the user has to use the generic SEARCH application by exiting or minimizing the music player, which in itself is a cumbersome exercise. The search function, if integrated into the music player, will help a great deal in making the music experience really customized and precise as also time saving.
The in-built VIDEO editing options available in the video viewing dashboard are relatively much naïve and rudimentary as compared to PureView’s lesser predecessor, the N8. Now, since 808 is a full-fledged camera Smartphone, it is bit logical on part of the user to expect the video editing dashboard to be as efficient and complete as the photo editing dashboard of the same is.  Advance options like adding music clip can be added to the video editing console to mitigate the need of using any third party application to do so, and thus, it will further enhance the utility drawn from the cell-phone UI in terms of video editing and viewing.
The generic MESSAGING application has the default view as CONVERSATIONS view and manual selection every time is required to switch the view to FOLDERS mode. If there had been an option to make a choice in setting the folders view or the conversations view as default as per users convenience, it would have been again a smooth messaging experience.
To end up, the generic CONTACT application lacks the facility to edit the contact labels unlike the one which was available in S60 V3 devices (I owned N79 prior to owing 808 PureView and so I am well aware of this utility). Facility to edit the contact labels makes it easy to differentiate between multiple contact numbers of the same contact so as to have an ease of remembrance and clarity of use.
I earnestly hope that Nokia will incorporate some or all of these suggestions in the next-to-come firmware upgrade for Belle FP1 devices. These modifications/additions, if done and made, will make the Belle OS fully competent with its various other contemporaries as it just lacks these things but otherwise is a fluid and extremely useful OS. I request you to kindly pay due heed and consideration to my observations and work towards making the Belle OS an all-encompassing mobile platform. Thanking You.

  • Nokia 1020 Flash gives Yellow Tint - White Balance...

I have the new Nokia Lumia 1020.  Unfortunately, every time I take a photo with the flash, it gives a yellow tint; the white balance is WAY off.  I called support and Nokia Support said to swap the phone, which I did at AT&T.  The 2nd phone has the same issue.  I searched online, and several others are having the same problem.
When will a solution for this come out, assuming one will?
    Thanks.

yep suffering from this too and there are quite a few threads popping up on the net about the issue too

these are just the top hits on google and this is without the threads on your wn discussion board on this very website :-/
now i love my 1020 just like i loved my nokia 808 but there is defo something wrong with the settings and jpeg processing on the 1020
on one of the forums i use a users examined the exif data of a yellow tinted image and the shutter speed was really slow and the iso really high , i think this is where the problem lies , on an xenon flash shot why is the phone choosing a very high iso and very slow shutter speed surely this will lead to polloution of the picture from other light sources hence the orange/yellow glow/tint to many pictures taken under ''fake'' lighting
In auto mode even with flash on, shutter speed is always 1/30 and ISO is pretty high (1000 or above). I don't know why these settings are this way with flash in Auto, but that seems to be the reason for the yellow tint.
a user has come up with a fix which is
Try this: force flash on and then either set ISO to 400 or a fixed shutter speed of 1/100 or even faster. I noticed that the flash fires shorter and brighter that way. Surprise: yellow tint is gone.
so as you can see the camera is simply selecting the wrong settings for the scene , why an earth is the camera selecting such a high iso and slow shutter speed for an xenon lit shot , surely thats ridiculous , it seems it to me
nokia please can you look into this asap
according to your response in this thread you have been aware of this for a while now and i know software can be very complex but this is something that needs to be fixed and is causing a lot of people hassle with the ''best camera phone'' the world has seen
i am sure it can be fixed easily via software and i look forwards to an update or resapinse from nokia about the issue

  • Nokia 808 crashes periodically when 3G enabled (Ge...

    Hi,
I have a Nokia 808 PureView Type RM-807, Software version 112.020.0309. I can provide more details if needed.
I bought this device in Ukraine because that's where I work. There is no WCDMA 3G in Ukraine. EDGE peformance in Ukraine was fine. Currently I am travelling my home country, Germany, and have got local (German) SIM cards from O2 and from Vodaphone with a 3G data plan and was expecting being to able my phone with 3G in Germany, but alas, I am not.
The issue is that while 3G works at first sight, with 3G enabled, my phone crashes on average once or twice a day. By "crashes" I mean that the screen either freezes or turns black and the only way to wake up the phone is to remove the battery.
The problem is exacerberated by bad operator connectivity. The first two weeks I stayed at a holiday resort by the sea where 3G quality was limited. There, my phone kept crashing every 30 minutes or so. I then disabled 3G and used EDGE and thought oh well maybe both O2 and Vodaphone just have a faulty base transmitter station here or something. However, I also see the crashes now in big cities where I have 5 bars quality and even while I stay stationary at one office with perfect 3G coverage. The crashes are less frequent here, I can work a couple of hours but all of a sudden, wosh, the screen goes black. Disabling 3G and using GRPS/EDGE solves the problem. I have not seen a single crash with 3G disabled, but GPRS enabled for all my stay in Germany which is now approaching 4 weeks. Everything is a bit more slow but works stably.
Now if I re-iterate the arguments from the Wi-Fi connectivity thread: Of course I am willing to accept that the 808 has got a perfect implementation of the standards and that the base transmitter stations of both O2 and Vodaphone are misbehaving. However I EXPECT MY PHONE TO WORK UNDER REAL LIFE CONDITIONS. No matter how the BTS misbehaves, under no circumstances should my phone crash becaus of that!!! If 3G is flawy, it should fall back to EDGE and that's it! And I also can't help but notice that I also carry my old Nokia 5800 with me which is also a Ukrainian model but it has no issue at all with German 3G operators.
Speaking of "Ukraine" devices, I am still at FW 309 because no newer updates  were made available to me so far. Maybe the 808 sold in Germany comes with a newer firmware with operator-specific fixes? Is there a way to get the newer firmware versions (I read about 310 and 311 on symbiantweet) for my phone? And why does Nokia not deploy all operator-specific fixes to all devices? After all you can never know where the customer will be travelling ...
I will be staying in Germany until end of August. I am able to reproduce the crashes at the office am currently working in, so we have some reproducable scenario. However they don't happen that often here, it is like once every other day, so not optimum testing conditions unfortunately. I can profide full cell/operator information as provided by PhoNetInfo or any other diagnosis tool if you let me know which one.
I have quite some data conusmers installed on my phone, there is the Facebook widget, the e-mail widget with a fastmail.fm IMAP account, the weather widget, and I frequently browse the web, use apps like FlickrUp to upload photos and so on. Initially, I also had installed WhatsApp, but that was the first app that I deinstalled when the phone started crashing, however, deinstalling did it not help at all.
Any thoughts welcome, I am willing to help with diagnosing the issue.
    Best regards,
    Tobias

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Dear Kosh,
I resetted my device a couple of weeks ago because of the Wi-Fi trouble reported in an independent thread, just to be sure that my phone was 100% "virgin". I did not restore any kind of backup after that but re-did all necessary settings, installs etc. manually and copied some of the old photos to the mass memory, that's it.
On a second thought, a source of trouble that should be eliminated could be WhatsApp. I read a while ago that users were having crashes with WhatsApp and not having crashes when de-instlaling WhatsApp. So very extremely hypothetically, WhatsApp could have done something to my phone that makes it crash even after WhatsApp and all its related helper apps have been uninstalled. So I could do another reset cycle and not install WhatsApp at all. I don't need WhatsApp anyway.
Your advice of only making the most necessary settings is difficult to follow, because the crashes are more or less related to the amount of internet activity (either data volume or number of connections, I am not sure). No activity - no crash, the crashes always occur while I am doing something on the phone (that something could be anything - calling, browsing photos, uploading stuff to flickr, reading news with the pre-installed reuters app, trying to book a train ticket with DB navigator, ...).  So I need to configure at least the built-in Nokia applications (mail, social network) and install some 3d party apps in order to be able to work on the phone enough to trigger the issue. What I could to is to leave out the "always on" apps like WhatsApp and TotalRecall. As I said, I will try to find a time window to do it.
Also, the crashes are not that often in the place where I am currently. Today I had 3G enabled the whole day and had a lot of VoIP and other activity, but the phone kept stable. I could of course book another holiday at that seaside with its flaky 3G connection for further debugging purposes, but that would be more expensive than getting a competitor's device plus a standalone camera ;-).
My product code is 059M7H1. Is there any firmware more recent than the 112.020.0309.C00.01 that i currently have?
    Best regards,
    Tobias

  • Reddish tint on front camera glass on Nokia 808 Pu...

Some time ago I replaced the somewhat broken case of my Nokia 808 Pureview with other one, used, but in good physical condition. Everything went ok, no problem here.
There is a strange thing however: the front camera glass of the "new" case has a slightly reddish tint, whose color resembles a skylight photo filter. It can be observed quite well in the attached images (in the one with both, the "new" case is on the left).
I am unable to spot a difference in colors of the photos taken before and after case change, but that doesn't mean much. The colors of the 808 were never on my favorite side (I always prefer the N8 colors, but this is also a matter of taste) and those taken with the xenon flash have a pink white tendency almost all the time (especially on subjects having lot of white) – but that was the same with the "old" case also.
My question is – was this physical optical adjustment intentionally made by Nokia at some point ? Or this is something common and just my old case was different than the average ? The glass on the old case seems just a little bit dark, but this could be only an impression and for sure it has no particular color tint.

Hello, secarica. Thanks for sharing this with us. We'd like to clarify some details for us to better address your concern. Where did you purchase the case? Where are you located and have you taken the phone to a Care Point for an evaluation?
BTW, we do not recommend unauthorized disassembling of parts as it may cause further harm to the phone & will void your phone's warranty. For any repair concerns, we suggest taking the phone to an authorized repair facility: http://www.microsoft.com/en/mobile/support/locations/. Backup file is a must to avoid any data loss. Keep us posted.

  • Nokia 808 SAR too high ?

I noticed that SAR ( Specific absorption rate )  for the nokia 808 is among the highest for mobile phones .  I'm using nokia 808 as my primary phone, so I'm bit worried  about it. Does Anyone have more information or comments about this ?
*note; removed speculative and unproven statements. It is not allowed to post information in this way without providing sources and or proof of such case. please see the forum guidelines if you have any questions on this.

There is strong dispute on this matter because everyone seems to like mobile connectivity these days, and yet the sale of connected devices is paramount business.
The debate's going over whether or not mobile phones are dangerous. It's like asking yourself if eating a lot of chocolates with liquor would get you tipsy: you'll inevitably get drunk if you continue the practice indefinitely.
Electromagnetic radiation causes cancer, that's established beyond debate. There are guidelines by the EU commision for placing those things we call antennas (cell) and exposure limits. What do you think even a moderately low powered device like a mobile phone is ultimately going to do !? Light your mood perhaps !?
Just for you to know: the OMS (precisely the IARC) found direct connection between electromagnetic radiation (EMR) and cancer in living animals, and issued a warning. Most of the resarch groups though are funded by the industries which makes them very biased. Probably in 50 years time mobile phones will ship with a black patch like smokies warning that you could DIE becasue of their usage.
There is a good news though, SAR is not specifically related to the amound of power used by your mobile phone's transmitter. Can't quite do wihout !? Try to shield yourself and cover up form direct radiation exposure.  EMR behaves much like a highly pitched sound, so what blocks the sound could also block the radiation, even human hair can shield partly from EMR.
    - Stay in view of the cell tower (would lower the powered required to transmit)
    - Use 2G connectivity for long calls (requires less transmitting power)
    - Locate the long range antenna on your phone (usually diffrent than Wi-Fi's) and use as a reference point so you don't touch it and never obstruct it.
Did you notice that manufacturers strarted to use bottom placed antennas in mobile devices ? That is to lower SAR head values.
    - Use packet on demand data connection.
    - Turn off mobile data when you don't use it
    - Use a wired or Bluetooth headset and place your mobile phone away from you during a call (in a pouch, handbag), try to avoid contact and proximity with it as long as it is possibile to achieve during a call or mobile data session.
    - Improve your data usage by tracking down applications for data and power usage. Nokia produced the wonderful Energy Profiler mobile app back in 2009 that still today is essential tool for the task.
    - Use WI-Fi instead of 3G/4G, EDGE whenever possible.
As you see ther are plenty of options to lower EMR exposure and your SAR, by doing so I am pretty certain I already halved my EMR exposure. Not only I am more peaceful but also my mobile phone's battery lasts longer. Peace of mind

  • Joikuspot not working on brand new Nokia 808

I've just purchased a Nokia 808 from Singapora and tried using Joikuspot.  Unfortunately for some reason it fails to start a connection.  I've made sure that BOTH mobile data and wifi are on as well.  When I start the program, it asks if I want to start a connection (to which I say yes), I choose AT&T Internet and wait.  I can see the 3G internet icon start up, but the wifi icon (or transmitting icon) never appears and the message "Connection failed, Connection unavailable" appears up at the top.
I've tried reinstalling Joikuspot (well, I purchased the premium version actually), reinstalling the phone software (via Nokia Suite) and doing a factory reset with no success.  Internet and other apps seem to work fine under 3G and wifi as well so I'm not sure what's going on.  Any information regarding the matter would be extremely helpful.  Thanks everyone.
    Jon
Btw, I've also contacted the people at Joiku and what they've recommended (factory reset, checking certain settings) hasn't worked either. :-(

    Hi all,
This post is about using the third party application JoikuSpot in USA (and other FCC governed countries) and is copied to the following threads:
    http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Phone-Applications/Joikuspot-not-working-on-brand-new-Nokia-808/m-p/...

    http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nseries-and-Symbian-Smartphones/Help-Does-non-US-variant-808-purevie...
    1) It doesn't matter where you get your Nokia 808 PureView from, ie it doesn't matter if it's a US, Singapore or Finnish variant.. If you are using that device on a network/carrier in the US, the device recognises this and is not going to allow you to make Ad-Hoc wlan connections, as per the regulations set out by the FCC.
    2) I understand (this I am not certain on) that the FCC regulations came into force in 2011. Therefore for any device manufacturer since then, the device is not allowed to create Ad-Hoc networks otherwise the device manufacturer wouldn't get FCC approval.
    3) The FCC restrictons are in this case technically talking about Ad-Hoc networks, not 'wifi direct' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_Direct) networks that are used for example in Lumia 610/710/800/900.
    4) I understand the US Variants of Nokia 808 PureView do not have JoikuSpot preinstalled.
    5) I understand that US customers are not able to purchase JoikuSpot from Nokia Store.
    6) JoikuSoft should be aware of this as they are making the software to create the Ad-Hoc networks. I will find someone to talk to JoikuSoft, failing that I will do it myself. I noticed a post from 'greentoy' claiming "According to Joikusoft Support, It should work fine in US, but they didn't know for sure.". Greentoy, if you're reading this please post me the JoikuSoft contact you had so I can sort this out with them.
It goes without saying, if you have Nokia 808 PureView in the US, and are using JoikuSpot successfully, then I am happy for you and don't want to cause problems for you, but I suspect the FCC would be happy to tell you about their feelings..
Are there any other questions I should be aware of using JoikuSpot in the US before I try to get in touch with JoikuSoft?

  • Nokia 808 Pureview Youtube Videos not working

    Hi guys,
I just purchased my Nokia 808 and everything is running smooth except videos are not playing online.
I am seeing a little f sign in the left upper corner which I believe is the flash player sign.
I can see everything else in the window except the actual video.
I contacted Nokia support and they restarted the phone.
I also have the latest software update.
I am unable to find a newer flash lite other then the current 4.0 which is pre-installed in the phone.
Please help because I do not want to send the phone back.

I saw the Nokia sample image in
    http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/02/27/Nokia-808-PureView-with-41MP-sensor
how come the pictures can be in
    ISO 114 - 5.3MP, 16:9?
I thought they only have 5mp and ISO 100 or 200. How can I select 101~199 ISO.
    ISO 58 - 38.4MP
How can I also select 38.4mp?   custom setting?

You can select the 38 Megapixels resolution by going to the Camera Settings, go to Creative mode and choose full resolution instead of Pureview.
In full resolution, you can have two different Megapixels due to the 16:9 ratio and 4:3 ratio.
In 16:9 ratio, you'll get 34 Megapixels. While in 4:3 ratio, you'll get 38 Megapixels.
If I have helped you in any way, give me a kudos!

It's unlikely that the 808 will see any of those features added to it by Nokia as it's different teams working on it now. Also with symbian in the process of being discontinued and the 808 slowly disappearing from sale it's unlikely that the time, effort or expense will be put into it.
Unless you are buying it purely for the camera as it is now I would avoid the 808.
Obviously this is just speculation, all you can really do is wait and see what happens as Nokia won't comment on it here.
